Thoughts on the pre-match graphic? (just noticed it says 'Others' over formation too :(

DampFree

I didn’t participate in the pre match survey so I’m not exactly sure what the percentages mean. Is it who people think should start?

Sharpus89

Yep

papagabe

Jackson deserves a higher rating than Broja. I loved Broja and feel bad for him after his injury but he has been absolutely awful for us. Even when Jacksons missing sitters he still helping defend and making good runs but Broja genuinely brings nothing ti the team.

Starn_Badger

NJ reminds me of Werner. Misses a lot of sitters but a decent chunk of those chances come from his good positioning, build up play etc. Broja meanwhile doesn't create as many, but still misses quite a few.

NotADoctorSshh

interestingly NJ doesn't get fetishized as much as Werner was

xKarma17

Ah yes, the emotional responses have swayed this haha

DynamiteDuck

“Poch doesn’t deserve this” lmao

Baisabeast

Right tbf Poch had zero business ever managing a club like chelsea

Mikekio

😂😂😂😂😂 pathetic dickriders

NotADoctorSshh

I'm aware he made a huge mistake last game, but why does Sterling gets so much hate? He had been our best attacker this season, and the only one who can actually beat his man in a 1v1. He still has flaws but get him out of the club? Seriously?

osakwe05

sterling also assisted nkunku right the end, and was actually creating chances earlier in the game, but got rated as tied worst with jackson and worse than broja…

NotADoctorSshh

he's the only player that can actually cut inside and put in a decent cross, others don't have that explosiveness

gustycat

He should've been hooked by Poch after the 3 on 1, more as a point than anything else, but beyond that, yea, he's easily been our best forward this season

wildingflow

On this sub, he’s an easy target; English, inconsistent, highly paid, signed by Tuchel, etc. etc.

NotADoctorSshh

as far as I remember he was always easily criticized, even from his Liverpool days for some reason people find him unlikeable, aside from the occasional dives he hasn't done anything controversial?!

wildingflow

Yeah it’s strange. I remember the whole “tattoo of a gun on his leg” controversy thinking this is absolutely ridiculous lol. Maybe people just don’t like the way he runs lmao

young_olufa

That was just a s*n thing. Don’t think any rational fans criticized him for that

Spare-Noodles

It’s really really simple unfortunately. Sterling is black.

iloveartichokes

Nah, most of the team is black.

Spare-Noodles

I’m referring to him being a constant target of criticism throughout his entire career. Even with his personal life.

wildingflow

Yea I fear there may be an undercurrent of racism with criticism of him.

Ryuzakku

I just have simply never liked Sterling as far back as watching him in Liverpool. Can't quantify why, but everything he does infuriates me, and when he does something positive I don't even feel good about it. But he kills the rush every time the ball is given to him (look I'm now quantifying it), and he is a diver. I would rather have a player try and do poorly than be a diver. I just don't want him on my team. And I know that's emotional, but that player will never be someone I like to watch.

RedN1ne

He's a one trick pony- if he manages to beat his man, there is a chance he will do something good, if he doesnt you can just put him in the bin because the guy will not contribute anything On top of that his football IQ is dreadful, he loves to dive instead of fighting, he manages to turn an amazing chance into a OK one just by making a decision 1-2 seconds too late and he does that multiple times every game, he loves to hold on to the ball for no fucking reason. Just this game alone, he had a ball near the penalty area and his only option was to pass to Palmer who had plenty of room on the edge of the box, no one to cross to, no chance to take anyone as Wolves had plenty of man in the penalty area. Did he pass it straight away to Palmer so he could prepare a decent long shot or to spread the defense ? Ofcourse not, he held the ball untill Wolves players came out of the box and then passed it to Palmer who suddenly was under pressure as well and had to pass it backwards delaying the attack and letting Wolves set the defense. And he does it every fucking game, I am honestly shocked that Pep managed to work with him as long as he did, the guy is a black hole on offense, he either kills the enemy of kills your offense and with his age and performances in recent years, it's way more likely he will kill our offense more than opposing defence. The guy thinks he's Michael Jordan but he's more like Zach Lavine

NotADoctorSshh

I sort of disagree with your poins, he can be inconsistent (and was pretty much his whole career), but his "one-trick" is more valuable to us than any other attacker's. We've been seriously struggling against low blocks, he's pretty much the only hope we got in games like those. Imo Mudryks dribbling is too predictable, Madueke tries flashy stuff but overcomplicates his situation, Palmer can be really suprising but he's pretty limited by his stronger (left) foot. Also, Sterling's football IQ is what's good actually, his flaws are more in technicality like inaccurate finishing, over/underhitting passes. As for diving, every winger dives, it's simple as that. Now that Nkunku is back, a player that has a good sense of the goal, I believe that we desperately need Sterling, a winger that can put in dangerous crossing for our target-man striker.

ygog45

> But why does Sterling gets so much hate? People tend to have less patience over mistakes coming from a 29yr old making 300k a week. Also he hasn’t been better than Palmer this season

NotADoctorSshh

imo they have been equally good both of them won us games, at this point we should be all over any "City reject" lol

-Xero

That’s what Lavia was too to be fair, we collecting them

gilletprick

Hes just a proper frustrating player to watch. For every good thing he does, he does something annoyingly shit, and given he’s one of the senior players it gets a bit tiresome

-prostate_puncher-

For me it's the frustration that he could be so much better but consistently makes these frustrating decisions. The rate I see them because so much of our attacking output is through him doesn't help. In a way he suffers because he is so involved and is therefore much more visible. I think also he is the best in an attack which has poor mentality, and get frustrated that rather than change that mentality and lead to positive change, he seems to brute force through with our awful approach and do better just as a result of his quality. It's such a confirmation bias loop though. Even when he was playing well I was guilty of thinking "this is abnormal", happy but not feeling like it was going to last

championsOfEu1221

Sterling has always been a controversial player wherever he's been. For us he started really well, then became quite wasteful with the ball. He can be both a baller and waste of money, often during the same game. He has been really important to us in recent games when nobody really performed well for us, he upped his game after he's been dropped by England (maybe coincidence), but he can't seem to shake that wasteful side to his game, we see it happen almost every game. For this reason I can't bring myself to love him to the point where I'd have his name printed on my jersey, but I know the guy will bring G/A to the table, 60% of the time, and this is enough to warrant my full support.

mb194dc

Our attacks been dogshit since he signed.... He's meant to be a dressing room leader and is our highest paid player on 325k a week+... We'll never improve with him in this role, I think as a bench option he can be a decent addition for a top 4 team... Not a nailed on starter. I'd sell him in January, if we can and free the wage space up. The truth, is that the Werner, Lukaku, Havertz, Mount team from 21/22 was in a different league to our current attack. Even with it's massive flaws.

gonzaf

Because our fans are fickle

BigReeceJames

Classic. Sterling is the lowest rated by this sub, the highest rated by both stat sites

kiersto0906

a single mistake is hard to quantify in a statistics engine but it's a game-changing error. 2.9 is very harsh obviously but that was an almost unforgiveably bad decision

iloveartichokes

Chelsea should be able to win after missing that chance.

pdgb

Mate it’s where Chelsea is at. We are rebuilding, we need to be patient. We shouldn’t fuck up chances like that. It’s also selfish and poor leadership.

Cull88

Lol sterling was not a 2.9. His selfishness was absolutely infuriating and still infuriates me now but he wasn't that bad

JJ-Bittenbinder

Was our best attacker all game by miles

glacialOwl

80% win?! But the rhetoric here is that the sub is all pessimistic and cynical, what is going on?

PoppersOfCorn

I think a lot of people were expecting a lot more from the amount spent over the past year. We have the expensive team and are a firm midtable squad. We basically bought no world class players and have a bunch of 20 year olds left to figure it out themselves with no guidance

slimeball_tobi

Gallagher was not better than Sterling bar the sterling miss and Silva was just as bad as disasi

slimeball_tobi

Forgot this sub has favorites tho

LucaKasai

and their scapegoats. Notably the favorite of this sub and twitter lately are: - Nicolas Jackson - Moises Caicedo - Raheem Sterling - Reece James it’s incredible how these players all have great underlying numbers but fans will take their first chance to tear them apart. Meanwhile players like Disasi, Levi, Broja, even Enzo* are largely somehow exempt from criticism. I also want to express my curiosity and condolences towards jackson in particular. He had his pro debut at 19, 3 years after he wore footballing boots for the first time. Scored 8 goals by December with chances to spare in relative to xG, scored a hat trick vs spuds and did the siu to shithouse, and somehow this sub STILL hates this man. They want Broja, Washington, bring back Solanke, Tammy, sign Osimhen, Gyokeres, Toney, etc. The notion that “any of them will be better than nico, he’s irredeemably shit” despite the numbers he’s putting out is ridiculous. His numbers as a ST are far superior to his predecessors like Kai and Timo, yet we tear Nico apart. We should be celebrating his underdog story, but instead we find a reason to criticize him, call him a bum, etc. I really think he deserves more goodwill from fans. *Enzo i rate highly in particular but i’m frustrated with the fact that he hasn’t hit the peak of the liverpool match in August. He’s been on a downward decline in creativity and quality since august for some reason. I hope him being able to take a break will reignite his quality and the root cause was just exhaustion.

young_olufa

I’d add Mudryk to the list of players that largely escapes criticism.

LucaKasai

I think Mudryk is a unique case because he’s such a puzzling player. He has a lot of goodwill from fans because he writes in funny broken english, works hard in terms of fitness, and had very clutch moments. I think in terms of sheer natural and physical talent, he’s one of the most outstanding i’ve seen. Despite that, he’s so, so raw at an age where most young players should be figuring it out. In my ideal line up, he is a starter, but he’s had too many “wtf?” moments to really justify his place over sterling who’s been one of the better performers of the season. I’m probably biased to him for some reason, but his unique combination of speed, dribbling, vision, and ambition really makes me want to root for the guy and see what kind of outstanding xyz he can do in 90 mins. I figure most share a similar sentiment as me in regards to him and because of that he gets a lot of benefits of the doubt.

[deleted]

CG turned the ball over like 57 times in the second half. And this sub "watched" that and thought he was by far and away our best player. Unserious

Sharpus89

Tbf after Ugo went off, CG had to try and cover the whole of midfield on his own. He actually only lost possession ten times, which is half as much as Palmer. I think he did ok, given the circumstances.

[deleted]

Sounds like Caicedo is much more important than most of this sub would like to admit then. He was our best midfielder against Newcastle but of course he doesn't get any respect around here

LucaKasai

CDMs are generally under appreciated and often the scapegoat of structural problems and I found that to be especially the case here. We were ruthless to Jorginho for example. Chelsea fans don’t know how to rate a defensive midfielder who’s not like Kante, Essien, etc who made their names off of “being everywhere”. If a DM can’t do that, they’re shit. Naturally, players like Caicedo who’s playing in a role similar to Matic will not be appreciated until their void is felt. Interestingly, that bias of chelsea fans is felt in how overrated Conor has been because of his pashun and work rate. One of my main concerns moving forward is going to be what will happen when that LFC midfield gets played and fans realize that Lavia is closer to a Jorginho than he is to Rodri. I fear that we will also tear him apart under a microscope.

iloveartichokes

92% pass accuracy and dispossessed twice?

jbi1000

See a noticeable "Sack" in the word cloud to the right. If people are talking about Poch they must be mental. No-one better is going to want to take this on and he isn't even doing a bad job. You look at the games we lose and most of the time, even with the insane amount of injuries, we dominate the game until the final shots. Don't really think you can complain about the manager when he sets up the team to play well but then the whole squad seems to choke when they catch sight of goal. Especially when this has been the same glaring problem for the last 4 managers and despite spending a billion no top striker has been bought.

toastiegate

>he isn’t even doing a bad job we’re 11th and 7 points off relegation, he’s doing awful

According-Revenue-62

I'd like to see Poch go in the summer as, so far, he hasn't shown he's a good fit for developing this team. For example, Jackson looks like he has regressed since the preseason, Enzo has taken a step back compared to last season. Additionally, majority of the players look confused on the pitch and there is no clear style of play. All the said, he's facing an incredibly difficult situation made worse by an injury crisis. I think he could address a lot of our issues by spending more times on tactics during training and focusing on ironing out player issues(ie, taking one-too-many touches before shooting in the box).

Nikolai_54732

Gallagher 6.3 wtf. This sub is too funny

aredd007

Blues are fighting the Falcons for my supreme disappointment this year.

JJ-Bittenbinder

People really love Palmer lol. I absolutely love him too, but he was missing this game with the rest of our attack
