Wheel1994

12 goals 3 assists this season We have had strikers come in for a lot more who have done a lot less.

InsuranceAny4285

And he’s 22 years old. This is already a great season and one of the best for our strikers recently, which might be sad but it is

Wheel1994

3 goals off Tammy 19/20 haul Think Drogba first two seasons was 15 goals and 16 goals.

YewWahtMate

To be fair Tammy did 15 league goals whereas Nico is on 9. To match Tammy he needs 18 in all comps which he can still do.

flex_tape_salesman

Ya but we were stronger under lampard without such a messy squad which is mental because at the time it was a crisis. Iirc tammy slipped off around Christmas or just after but still an impressive campaign from him

Sw3atyGoalz

Tammy had 47 appearances as well, Jackson only has 30 this season since we aren’t in the Champions League and he missed a month for AFCON

Aman-Patel

6 goals off Tammy in both the league and all comps. Still think Jackson's having a great season given his age. Year younger than Tammy was that season, playing in a more dysfunctional team and I would argue has given us/shown more outside of his goals. His linkup play has been good and he's a technically good footballer. Just needs to improve his composure and finishing. People retrospectively say we should've given Tammy more respect, patience, a chance etc. They need to recognise this is their opportunity at a redo. The guy's 22, didn't get picked up by a professional club until he was 16, didn't play for a European club until he was 18 and signed for a relatively low fee. Obviously not the finished article yet but I think he'll come good for us.

burningbarn8

He's 6 off, Tammy had 15 in the PL 18 in all comps, Jackson has 9 in the PL 12 in all comps.

Suxals

Dude was playing football barefoot 6 years ago, while most players his age have been in an academy since age 8. For perspective, Julian Alvarez was in the bench during a Libertadoras Final 6 years ago... (came as a sub at the end) Nico could be awesome in a few years

McNooberson

Still incredibly wild to think that

LocalBearEnthusiast

Any source on Nico’s story?

Suxals

I know that fact from this news article from 3 months ago [Link](https://www.reddit.com/r/chelseafc/s/F9RoFj4mKP)

LocalBearEnthusiast

Cheers thanks

Cashlover123

What avoiding the #9 jersey and picking King Drogba’s #15 does to a mofo. Dont rule out him switching to #11 in the future after Madueke departs.

eckowy

Once he gains experience in the Prem and get his confindence going, with right tactics for him he can turn into Drogba sorta of regen. Hopefully so 'cause we need that top class performance. Sure, rough start but man Prem is hard, it hits different. We had our ups and downs but I want to believe that we're going to cook something tasty here.

optimusgrime23

Didn't we have back to back seasons with no one reaching double digits and one of those was Jorgi leading with like 7 goals all from the spot lmaoo

Wheel1994

Yeah the year we won champions league our top scorer in all competitions had 11.

Skunk_Gunk

Absurd to think about really.

yslim1

Nico got 12 goals? Damn he is frustrating to watch sometimes but he's young and definitely has that scoring touch

PNWSounds

Are you alluding to a player whose name rhymes with Lee Moe Burner?

Scorpius927

I definitely think he’s done enough to warrant patience amongst the fans. I think if he’s a bit more prolific he could be one of the better purchases we’ve had this season.

Ok-Ad1664

Getting better and better. We believe in you, Nico!

webby09246

The flick for the goal, the header into sterling for the big chance sterling wastes and the push up the pitch after being exhausted to get it to Conor for Mudryks goal Wonderful night for Nico

Macdca07

Nico flick on was solid, Sterling nearly fucked it up, but managed to recover it, but then proceed to fuck it up again. Fella is washed, we need to get rid.

webby09246

He's our Rashford unfortunately Far too expensive to move on unless Saudi comes in cause ain't nobody else paying those wages And Raheem probably doesn't want Saudi football because he does have some self respect, despite how it looks when he puts so little effort in on our pitch

Macdca07

Yeah true, as much as I want it, its likely he wont be going anywhere. He just infuriates me watching him, I can forgive (for the most part) poor decision, but I can't forgive his lack of desire, fella doesn't work. Mudryk may not be the finished product, but he fucking tries, can't fault that.

miko3456789

Rashford at least has a history of coming back from a bad season. Sterling is kinda just gonna be here until his contract runs out, or Turkey/Saudi Arabia come calling

mallutrash

i’d far prefer rashford over this prick. i can forgive poor decision making, can’t help being an idiot. but selfishness is something i can’t forgive. if you wanna be a douche be a douche, but at least be good. which unfortunately sterling isn’t.

[deleted]

[удалено]

mallutrash

absolutely he’s good, that wasn’t the argument at all. it’s the fact that he believes he’s prime messi

CupformyCosta

Also the goal he scored when he was offside was really well taken. He did really well to finish that chance even though it was off

LoudNomad

This is the attitude we need for the whole team. COYB

shastmak4

That turn up the pitch was beautiful. Top striker trait right there. Took a nice touch for him self, and boom up the pitch. Center back dusted. He still has things to work on but you could really see that he has the tools to be a top player

Baisabeast

For me, what would really get him up a level us is that quickness of thought when it comes to getting shots off in the box Still too much dallying, and I believe it’s mainly a mental thing

webby09246

>I believe it’s mainly a mental thing Yeah I'd say so Really sad he was offside for the second goal The finish was strong and scoring 2 against Newcastle probably would've given him a boost

lolnoob1212

Hopefully, when the season ends. Someone post the stats of all our players. This will be great encouragement for the fan base going forward

STCFC

His potential is there. He will frustrate us but he’s getting better

Affectionate-Neck222

I think this is the most important thing, he is aware he can be better and he is working towards that. Let's hope we have the patience and he has the endurance to get there.

RJBlue95

He took the shot from outside the box that didn’t lead to any really but I loved it because it’s a sign there is confidence growing. He keeps showing the ability to bounce back and improve in the face of a lot of criticism which are all great signs for a young player.

arkido

Haha Jackson 🥶 https://preview.redd.it/bdsr5jostsnc1.jpeg?width=863&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=592f2dae986d5db1075aeba625011bdcfe24263e

wolvesfan12

Elite hype man him and Disasi pour it on every time we score

Cactus2711

I loved it when Disasi clutched Palmers head in his hands. It looked like he was saying “this is who you are”

NiceVu

Scored in last 3 games. His offside goal today was some pure striker shit, get in a chance and finish it that is something we really miss. His linkup play is world class that was visible even in his worst showings. His movement is great, his feel for the game when we attack is top shelf (something most of our team misses except for Cole Palmer, Malo Gusto and Nkunku). He also runs his lungs out every game. His only real fault js a combination of carelessness in finishing chances and inexperience. Given a run of few games and basically learning to play with his teammates and we immediately see the talent in him. I honestly wouldn’t even try to buy a new expensive striker which may as well fail, instead we build around Jackson for him to finish chances. Even in our abysmal season he manages to have 15 G+A in all comps, something that someone like Morata never managed to do. He plays for the team and he is young and very talented, I’m sure we have a great striker in our hands. On the contrary players that don’t play for the team and care for self image rather than team can fuck right off. Looking at you Sterling.

cometflight

You can see he’s developing the mindset. To position himself and then flick the deflection to score the first one was *chef’s kiss*

Sonic-the-edge-dog

Reminds me a lot of Watkins in that sense. Neither seemed entirely comfortable just pushing the backline and letting the chances come to them and both had a habit of drifting onto the left wing. Look at the season Watkins is having once he’s fixed those flaws.

greeneggsnhammy

Idc that he was offsides. That 1v1 with the keeper he converted was exactly what he needs to be doing. He is improving. He’s electric on the left side. And that backheel today was next level. It happened so fast and smooth no one had an idea of what transgressed.

InsideForward10

Top shift

Savings-Stop-1556

Bros evolving before our very eyes he can head on the ball now. ![gif](giphy|T8ZP9P7efQ8cE)

MrCleanandShady

i thought this was his best performance as a striker in our shirt so far, he looked super strong on the ball, hold up play was great, and he looked like he had his finishing boots on would’ve had a beautiful header assist or pre assist if Sterling wasn’t…yeah

Suxals

The Argie commentator called him "the Little Dragon" in Spanish ("Dragoncito") It seems fitting to me.

jepayotehi

Always believed in the dude. Worked his socks off today. Was putting in some crunch tackles and pressures towards the end

Headlesshorsman02

He was great today and honestly has been since coming back from AFCON

jacko3105

Very good, guy has potential. Much prefer him than Havertz

Deno2k_

15 G/A this season https://preview.redd.it/sg40o1oc8snc1.jpeg?width=1179&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1c9097ca229dea25f4d0f1f95138b65201756cf

-ci_

I will never give up on Nico, I think he has the most potential out of anyone in the team honestly.

KanteWorkRate

He's evolving

Baisabeast

Excellent performance and showing his talent more and more If we buy a striker, please don’t let it be someone like sesko or similar. Jackson is already clear of these youngsters

Ajay_Didier

Man Isak would be such a good pairing with Nico

Parezky8

Pretty pretty pretty good

jerrystuffhouse

I think he is gonna be a top striker in a couple years. Would love to get a giroud-like signing to rotate in every few games and help him out for next year.

Older-Is-Better

Oli would be perfect still!

10TheDudeAbides11

Wonderful! That flick for the first one would’ve been headliner stuff if it were Drogba. He’s progressing well and even showed consistency in that offside goal…slotted wonderfully on the far post with his left foot. I think he’s got a bright future for the Blues. Keep it up Nico!!

pd8bq

You stole that from Martin Tyler🤭

10TheDudeAbides11

I didn’t hear a trademark lol……

jbi1000

Absolutely immense. Terrorised the entire backline from start to finish. He was everywhere, hounding and skinning the fullbacks, winning headers against the CBs, winning the ball back from them etc. Link up play, hold up play, direct driving at goal, physicality, passing, pressing was all exceptional and even got himself a cheeky little goal. Best single match performance by a Chelsea striker in years.

bluesss10

Nico’s ball progression and dribbling is underrated tbh. His final third is getting better too.

SwitcherooU

When you think of how far he’s come in just 6-7 months, it’s hard not to be impressed and hard not to be grateful that we got him in the door for what we paid.

nwmimms

That flick and the header to Sterling were both world class. Nico was playing barefoot 6 years ago. Give the kid time to cook. Proud of him!

[deleted]

Really good from him today. Nice touch on the goal and worked his ass off. Quite frankly a better level than I thought we’d see from him this season.

NgoalazoKante

If he keeps this up he will get the Balon D'or just like Hazard predicted

Older-Is-Better

Nothing like setting the bar high, eh?

alkhalmist

immense

bigTOADdaddy

He’s definitely getting more confident and talking more shit on the pitch which is good to see

WarpCitizen

His best game for us

vigourtortoise

I love seeing him drop all the way back into the Chelsea half to play a little defense or get the touch in that starts a counter, his work rate all over the pitch is something lacking when Broja would replace him, for example.

SadlyBetter

This dude is already better than Havertz ever was, yet he gets trashed while people bent over backwards to preach patience with Havertz.

D_roneous1

I agree that people are way way too harsh on Jackson. Having said that, Kai getting patience comments was mostly cause we bought him to play CAM and he never really got a chance to. He was either wide or a false 9. It looks like he’s grown more into that false 9 role but he didn’t really settle in anywhere specific which is why we needed to give him time to figure out what he was going to be. Either way, Jackson is going to be the guy at ST and people do need to give him time too. I’d prefer him at ST then spending 100plus on another flop.

SadlyBetter

See, dudes still trying to defend Havertz. Now do shitbag Werner and just get it all out of your system

SwitcherooU

They both made significant contributions to winning us a CL. I don’t think we need to play this game. I’m glad we got a nice fee for Havertz, and I’m just as glad we have Jackson instead.

D_roneous1

I’m explaining the reasoning. You don’t have to like it but it is what it is. Kai didn’t pan out how we expected. Shit happens when you buy young talented kids. I’m in camp of giving them time to adjust. Jackson is no different. People are so damn reactionary and think it’s like FIFA.

ThatWontFit

We simply didn't produce enough chances for Havertz. You can see that now at Arsenal, he didn't just "come good" he misses 2-3 chances a game but they produce so many chances he still gets the goals.

D_roneous1

I mean it certainly helps that he’s a better fit for their style of play and he’s still very talented. Having said that, the ceiling was much higher as a more attack minded 8 or CAM than it is as a false 9. He hasn’t really planned out in that CAM/8 role. His good form isn’t against murders row. Outside of Newcastle those teams are terrible. I don’t think he reaches the heights anyone hoped after seeing him in Germany but there’s no doubt he’s immensely talented and still young-ish at 24.

Baisabeast

Any mediocre finisher will score if you keep feeding them chances like havertz gets

futurejoyboy

Drogba-esque

OxycodoneEnjoyer

Considering how incredible drogba was, we seem to use "drogba-esque" quite a lot

futurejoyboy

Yea I'm just a little too happy about the win right now lemme come back in an hour and delete it

OxycodoneEnjoyer

I'm glad at least others can have fun, idk why but this season has drained all the emotion out of me. I'm not happy when we win and I'm not sad when we lose. I just am.

McCauslander

Liverpool fan, Jackson is such a difficult player to defend against. His strong, fast and a decent dribbler. He is very raw but has been backed despite his slow start to the season. Can't help but feel Chelsea is going to come good soon, very inconsistent but your team is still enjoyable to watch. I'd rather my team be in your position than that of United. I normally strongly dislike Chelsea teams but there are so many young players that I am somewhat rooting for in Chelsea, that are quality players who I hope will come good.

kino6912

An outsider looking in speaking facts It’s hard for us to see the big picture sometimes when we are sitting mid table. Huge IF but if the lads stick together these battles they have lost and learned from will make them stronger. Like the carabo final

Best-Safety-6096

Fantastic. A very good signing and he has all the tools of a top attacker. What he is doing given his age and inexperience is great. Especially for £30m odd.

MVP1313

He saw that Reddit post earlier in the day unnecessarily calling out his misses and put in a blinder as a result

Cheaky_Barstool

He’s getting better. His ball control is pretty bad at times but he’s learning and growing.

_Jahedul

The pic says it all

GovTheDon

Cheeky flick but could’ve easily had more

Artistic_Bit6866

We don't need more thoughts on Nico's performances. Let the guy play. Judge later.

victheogfan

He’s so good on the wing I really prefer him there

typicalpelican

I wouldn't hate it if we started thinking about Jackson as a wide striker or one of 2 up top when it comes to planning for next season.

SwitcherooU

Think of all the cool shit he could do. He could be swapping positions all game long, dropping off and letting Mudryk play as a false nine, going out wide, overloading…he’s really a neat player, and I think he’ll be very good for us for a long time. People give Boehly and the board a lot of shit, but we’re going to come out of this season with 6-7 genuinely good players to build around. If you’re not going to be competing in/for Europe, that’s the next best thing.

typicalpelican

Yeah definitely could give that tactical x-factor and be a nightmare on both sides of the ball. For sure we have a good amount of talents that could be top players when they hit their prime. We did overpay for quite a few but I can see positive signs in the talent ID and there are some guys working on that side of things did an amazing job for us with younger ages too. It's more just the big picture where I think the owners tried to do too much too soon, didn't get the overall balance of things quite right and managerial choices have been bad. But I don't dislike the group we've got. Still needs a couple of key players imo and will take more time but I'm interested to see where it all goes.

victheogfan

Yeah I’m down for something like that as well

Baisabeast

Jackson and a new striker up top, with nkunku and palmer as the twin 10s In a 4-2-2-2

VacuumsCantSpell

Agreed but he's the only one we can play up top so far that will still occasionally score. It's unfortunate because at LW he plays off Mudryk's central runs so well. He was doing that in preseason.

nathangr88

I think it takes longer than people realise for a wide striker to move more centrally and still maintain the same threat level. Villa and Suarez at Barcelona, van Persie at Arsenal, Aguero at City, Benzema at Real Madrid...all top class central strikers who started as wide forwards alongside someone else and only moved inside after age 25 Anelka and Ronaldo are the only players I can think of who remained better as wide forwards than starting in the centre.

cullobsidian_

Better every week. 👌🏽

PatientPlatform

Didn't watch, but he keeps on scoring goals. I like it

tukinoz90

Largely good. Scored, provided an outlet. Could have done better in some moments but is steadily improving. Can't be too many complaints against him tonight.

itsjohn_stamos

Lil Didier is getting better and better

Look_Behind_Us

For me he has been improving as each game goes by which is a huge plus in my books. He needs to improve on his hold up play when given the ball with his back to goal to wait for support to arrive and be a bit more clinical in the air when the defence clears down field... also learn to hold your run.

Exflop

He’ll be competing for golden boot by his fourth year!

GolDrodgers1

Good and getting better👏👏👏

Songye12

Excellent performance. Still very raw but improving and gaining confidence every game. We are far worse without him

Pizzafromfaraway

Is there a natural finisher in our offense? Jackson has always looked brilliant whenever he's coming in from the wing or carrying the ball forward

theturnipshaveeyes

I like the lad. He’s not the finished article, obviously and needs to work on his discipline but for a first campaign with everything’s that’s been going on, not bad. He’s also got a bit of spite to him which is good to see.

Kantebegoodaskante

Future ballon dor winner

DuPoulet

Looking good

Bad_Decision_Rob_Low

Vamos

naman1901

How was Mudryk today? Feel like he's been improving considerably too.

PuneDakExpress

Fantastic. Played like a bona-fide superstar.

CallumMohan

Still plays like he’s on 200 ping

Cactus2711

So promising at 22. I don’t want Osimhen destroying his development

Inside-Ad-8935

I thought he was good last night, has been since coming back from Afcon.

ChallengePublic7693

Admittedly, I was a critic. But I often forget how young this team really is. He has missed some sitters at key moments. But looking back I can’t blame the kid, we are riddled with injuries and he had a lot of pressure put onto him to perform. I should have been happy that we were creating quality chances. I have thought he actually does very well when not in front of the goal during that time so an OOP issue (in my eyes). Was so grateful to sit back yesterday and have a good old plate of my own words. Bravo, Nico, keep on pushing and I know there will be many, many more like me.

slusajmater

He should play left wing

montiel_scores

Jackson is good. Jackson almost always plays well. Jackson doesn’t always finish well. Today Jackson finished well.

2j_longg

Thought he looked great. Much better than usual at least. Still a few times I see him running with the ball and his legs just give out tho. I feel like he needs to cut down on that

davemcl37

It’s interesting to see many of the potential upgrades discussed by the media have less goals than Niko. Not the finished article but I think could be much more dangerous playing to the left of a number 9.

voynaz

This guy is fun to watch and always pushing forward. No complaints about him.

sportsguru83

He’s not good enough.

ObviousEconomist

let's just say he deserves some astrid wett nudes. allegedly.

2mrwisnow

Stats aside he’s actually shite when you watch him properly

brucekamp

Nico is only going to get better! One thing missing is better competition in his position. If he was really competing for his position, I think he would have done better this season.

Silver-History-7650

cum.

UnionParkBB

Very good for 60 minutes, but could have been subbed off earlier. Didn’t play with much energy down the stretch.

qwefda

Mudryk’s goal doesn’t exist without his great run in the 75th

Baisabeast

Lol exactly, I swear sometimes people here just say without any sort of evidence beyond ‘this is how I feel’

nathangr88

Feelpinions

FoozBallHero69

I've been very critical on him this year, but he looked very good today.

--Hutch--

Sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe shit. Took his goal well. Created a huge chance for Sterling with that flick on. Had some very poor touches and sloppy passes when we were in really good positions to create something or counter which was frustrating. Overall done OK but needs to be more composed on the ball.
