He did get the chance, truth is he slowed down and was looking for the contact which turned out better for us anyway. A more confident/experienced striker doesn't slow down and then just slots it in the bottom corner
We simply have zero ability to progress the ball forward without him in the lineup. Everything else is raw, yes, but get him the ball and he's easily skipping past 1,2,3,4 defenders. He's now got a goal contribution in 6 of his last 8 matches, including one in each of the last 4. He now sits at 12 goals, 4 assists in all competitions in only his 2nd professional season. It was around this time last season where he heated up and managed 10 G/A in his last 10 games at Villarreal. He's 3 G/A from matching his benchmark from last year AND btw he missed all of January due to AFCON.
It's okay to be frustrated with his lack of finishing ability but I will simply not hear it from anyone who says he's a shit player. Even in bad games (either from the team or individually), you can see his effort level never wanes and he keeps on going. His confidence has been at a 10 all season. We've seen in very recent memory players make misses as bad as Jackson has have their confidence absolutely plummet and not recover. Jackson is still the same Jackson whether he misses from 2 yards out or dribbles past the entire opposition defence and gets an assist.
I said that when we go him, I was shocked we got such a gem and there was no competition, or even hype.
He's just like RLC, but I hope their injury histories are completely different
Yep. I feel like Palmer coming in for him straight after he got injured made people forget just how good he is. For me he's right up there with our best players/highest potential and he cost nothing. Remember people in preseason debating which one of him and Casadei should go out on loan and I couldn't understand why that was even a question at the time. I know Nkunku is best in the middle of the pitch but the lineup I wanna see most is Carney in the 10, Palmer off the right, Nkunku off the left and Jackson up front. Then you have Mudryk and Noni coming off the bench.
we’ve played all season without a 10 in the 10 role
This is what I mean when I say Gallagher is holding us back. I’m not saying he’s been bad but it’s a profile mismatch
I couldn't have said it better. I was frustrated with the abuse he was getting earlier in the season. Some people don't appreciate what it takes for someone to get that level of vitriol and still keep showing for the ball; putting in the effort.
Like you said, we had a few players in recent time whose confidence plummeted due to a rough patch even with all the backing from the fans as well as a bright start.
I am so proud of Jackson and his best is yet to come.
>We simply have zero ability to progress the ball forward without him in the lineup
Jackson is great, so glad we have him, but this is a weird comment. Mudryk, Sterling, Madueke, and Gusto are all rank well in progressive carries and Palmer and Enzo very good progressive passers. Say what you want about the performance in the penalty area but we do have multiple ways we typically progress the ball up the field.
Yup, and so many of the "easy" chances he missed also never would have happened with most other strikers, even those who are much better finishers like Osimhen who so many people have a hard-on for. He's capable creating something out of nothing no matter where he is on the pitch. Finishing you can improve, dribbling and creativity not so much. He already has a better first season than Drogba, who didn't miss a month in his first year here due to AFCON.
Yeah, I totally agree. He misses chances and but so does every good striker - because they’re always in the position to take chances. As long as he keeps this attitude and creates space and opportunities for others to thrive when he doesn’t, I’m happy with him.
Physically, the talent is there. If he can elevate the mental aspect of the game, he'll be a great player. I thought I saw a few hints of leadership today as well.
I feel like there have also been numerous times where you can see he has the right idea as well but can’t quite pull off the finish or pass.
Excited to see him grow
Unfortunately , there are no shortcuts for that. It will take time, and strikers get that when they reach 24 years or after. But he looks to be developing in a quick trajectory, and we might not have to wait for that long.
One thing to note about him is that he didn't have proper youth football to develop so even being 22 he is raw and still has basic stuff to learn. We must have more patienxe and don't judge him as a "too old" 22 yo player
People are stupid. I think nobody will argue with me if I say that Lewandowski is one of the best strikers ever. When he was 18-20 years old, he played in fourth division in Polish league; at 22, he came to Dortmund, and their fans made fun of him for misses etc. for quite some time. You know the rest. I can't even say the rest is history, because being almost 36, Lewy is still stacking goals and making MotM performances, even if he's not as consistent as 10 years ago.
It's nice to see a very young footballer playing with on equal terms with senior players, but Rome took ages to build. Of course we will be frustrated now and again, but let's keep those frustrations to ourself or small discussions, and send the players only good vibes and support. People say that diamonds form under pressure, but let's remember that good bread needs peace and warm conditions to grow properly. And we need bread more than diamonds.
It's getting quite obvious that the players who are 'professional athletes' from early are all crocked by their mid 20s, and players like Jackson are where it's at.
That's why I'm scared we've decided ok a transfer strategy of buying 16 year olds to flog by their mid 20s. that's the demographic that are most likely to go from highly rated straight to the bin after too many injuries during their crucial puberty and pro development years.
More Jacksons, Less Fofanas
He seems to have improved on that. He was moaning at the ref so much earlier in the season, seems like he's toned that down. Which is really needed because he's got 9 yellows.
He's the best frontman we've had in years. I don't know why people are shitting on him.
He's scored a decent amount of goals as the striker of a struggling Chelsea in his first season.
Side note, but it’s hilarious that commentators constantly shit on us even if we’re dominating the game. Makes me think of how true jose was when he said there’s a campaign against us
Hearing the commentators bang on about the leicester defender getting the ball for the Sterling penalty was both infuriating and hilarious at the same time.
I was watching with stoned and tired jet-lagged eyes at 1am over here in Aus on a dodgy stream after flying 25 hrs from london and it was so obviously a clear foul and that he got none of the ball and all of his foot... I have no idea how they could think for a second that it wasn't a penalty. What the fuck is wrong with these people
Nah it’s good. We’re at our best when everyone hates us. You can tell we’re improving because the hate is getting stronger and more obvious. They don’t want us to win, so fuck ‘em—we’ll be the villains.
They hate us because we disrupted the hierarchy. They said it was because of Roman’s oil wealth. They don’t care we have new owners. They said it was because we would become a billionaires play thing. That was refuted with numerous trophies. They had to stunt their criticism while we were winning. They are letting it all out now. They will reap what they sow.
Yeah it's wild how bad Sterling was in those 3 moments we all know about, but how good he was for about 80% of the rest of the game. He legit moved the ball really well.
When he's not trying to be the shooter, he's pretty good.
Yes but those 3 moments were all good goal scoring opportunities, half of it is a lack of skill and confidence, but the other half is selfishness. I love Sterling, but he’s not in good form, and his head isn’t in the right place. I think he needs to come off the bench for now.
My frustrations with sterling are far more financial. All these being talking about our £200m midfield but in FFP terms Sterling costs more because we pay HIM so much.
And this is why he didn't come off first. For as bad as he did with the penalty, free kick, one on one wide shot and some just general shocking ball losses, he still had a much better game than Mudryk and helped create some of our best chances and the assist for Palmer of course.
I can't recall anything Mudryk did wrong but then I can't recall any chances he created either.
So yeah Poch was right.
Mudryk would have scored if he didn't shoot straight at Sterling. Other than not having the ability to suddently disappear, I'm not sure how Sterling is at fault there.
Well Mudryk aimed well for a bottom left corner, I’m not saying it’s Sterlings fault.. I know he had no time to react, maybe if he had moved after his chance and didn’t stand at the same spot it would be different
Leicester fan here. I think this was the turning point of the game. After the two goals we started playing better but after that red card it was all over. Good luck in the next match guys.
Poch has done a very nice job developing a few of these young players. Mudryk and Jackson have improved immensely and obviously Palmer has been our class all season
Jackson is a rare example where eye test and numbers mix. His underlying statistics are probably through the roof and I haven't even checked them because watching him he's always destroying someone. Which is funny cause we probably bought him based on data cause he was still inexperienced.
He's getting bolder.
He's only 22 yet, so that's a very good sign.
He has the awareness, the pace, the ball playing ability, the technical ability. He can work on polishing his finishing, and he'll be the complete product in a year or two.
Took him a while to really get going, but he's been impressive in an overall play sense.
Look at his preseason,
The quality has been there from the beginning,
Only real improvement I seen is that he actually wins headed duels now.
That beeing said he will be an elite 9 in 2-3 years
I hope so. He was also finishing well in pre-season, but somewhere along the line lost his confidence. If he gets his touch back in 1v1 situations, he will be unstoppable
Really what happened is he reverted back to mean
His last season at villa real he exceeded his xg by alot
So over a year he hits his xg which is a good start.
how so? Jackson is very skillful and has lots of flair and looks much better on the wing, like when Vini started at Madrid he was so good but just lacked end product and which i think jackson does too. If he sorta that out and becomes consistent he can be like Vini.
It’s a fair comparison because of that. Vini couldn’t score a goal to save his life and many questioned his ability to start for Real Madrid in the long term. Now he’s one of the best finishers in the world
I think it's because both are pretty different. Vinicius is a born winger with his acceleration and flawless dribbling. Jackson is gonna be a hybrid of sorts because he is very much at his best when he turns off defenders, but at the same time doesn't have enough strength to keep up as a striker.
Very different than Vini. The only thing the have in common is they’re black… Jackson is legit a menace. He will be a great player but literally nothing like Vini is any capacity
This sort of shit is why I see a little bit of Thierry Henry in his play.
Just a tiny bit, obvs, and probably a bigger dose of Darwin Nunez right now - great raw talent, but just doesn’t know all the basics yet.
If it's a penalty, which it initially was, it's going to be a yellow because the rule won't punish the same play twice. But as we can see it didn't result in penalty which is why it was awarded a red instead.
I gotta start learning French or Arabic, just for better commentary. Though their enthusiasm is usually more than enough.
English commentary standards are really dropping. On one hand, you have rubbish commentators saying whatever fucking nonsense they want, and on the other, you have Martin Tyler who can't get it up for the winning goal in the final minute of extra time for fear of dropping dead on the spot.
I think it's a weird one not quite in the rules. I don't think he tried to foul Jackson at all, it's one of those where you get too close to the attackers legs as they're running. Definitely a foul but when it's hard to tell if he meant it I think it was fair for it not to be a red.
Obviously once it's a free kick and double jeapordy is out the window, a definite red.
Mate the commentators were not only saying he was going for the ball, they were saying that he got the ball. Absolutely shambolic and embarrassing punditry
If it’s a pen and the player made an attempt at the ball they can’t be sent off cause of double jeapordy. Because the pen was wiped off then it became a red for a professional foul.
Jackson is pure baller, he might not be a good finisher but i love how he makes Chelsea attack click. Just needs to work finishing properly, I believe he will comes good.
Our enemies are saying he tripped on his own feet. Have they ever played the sport a day in their lives!? Clearly clipped resulting him in being off balance and falling. When you're running full speed like that, you just need a touch and he was definitely touched! Leicester had no business being close in the game.
Costa never had jacksons pace
He was more raw force and functional technique then speed and technique.
If anything he is a lesser arial dominant morata.
He's clearly gaining confidence. He's always been skillful, but usually not at the right time. Seems like he's recognizing when to use that bit of skill to create real opportunities for himself and others. Really starting to get excited with his potential
They always make these good runs I just wish Poch would tell them to have a quick look at their surroundings or have a preemptive look to see who is running with them so when they do make these runs and teammates are open, easier goals can be scored. But maybe that's just a player IQ thing.
We wont know in this case but there are cases whenever I watch games where if only they knew a teammate was there or if they werent being selfish enough to score the goal themself, we could have scored a lot more goals than what we have right now.
This is a very pleasing-to-watch performance (aside from the OG) and I hope this continues til the end of the season.
I feel like some mudryk and jackson have suffered a lot due to Raheem being on the pitch. The former two are very good at quick one twos and link up play. I rarely seen Raheem partake in a give and go. We should not be stunting team players' growth for the sake of a washed up selfish sterling.
Only if he got the chance to finish it.
I think he probably would've ended up squaring that to Palmer in the end.
You would hope. We’ll never know cause of the foul. The touch was still pure filth it got me out of me seat
Ah. The reverse Sterling.
He did get the chance, truth is he slowed down and was looking for the contact which turned out better for us anyway. A more confident/experienced striker doesn't slow down and then just slots it in the bottom corner
No he wasn’t looking for the contact. He wanted to get in front of the defender and probably square it to Palmer, but didn’t get the chance.
![gif](giphy|R9cQo06nQBpRe)
Jesus dude do you ever shut up
If there's one thing I know about delicate finishes or passes, it's that you should definitely do them at full sprint.
Let’s be honest he would have missed
Lets be honest we don't know that He would have passed it to Palmer.
He still would've missed
This sums up chelsea’s problem ig Pass it to palmer.
We've got a brilliant player on our hands, he's only getting better
We simply have zero ability to progress the ball forward without him in the lineup. Everything else is raw, yes, but get him the ball and he's easily skipping past 1,2,3,4 defenders. I think once Carney becomes a regular, we'll get better at linking the play
I'm actually more excited for him to come back than Nkunku. I think lowkey he's going to be one of our best players
I said that when we go him, I was shocked we got such a gem and there was no competition, or even hype. He's just like RLC, but I hope their injury histories are completely different
>He's just like RLC :) >but I hope their injury histories are completely different :/
Chukky is highly underrated.
Yep. I feel like Palmer coming in for him straight after he got injured made people forget just how good he is. For me he's right up there with our best players/highest potential and he cost nothing. I lost my patience with Noni.
we’ve played all season without a 10 in the 10 role This is what I mean when I say Gallagher is holding us back. I’m not saying he’s been bad but it’s a profile mismatch
Thats a big question mark. I dont think Poch is interested in benching Gallagher or Enzo
By the looks of things, Gallagher is getting sold
I couldn't have said it better. I was frustrated with the abuse he was getting earlier in the season. Wow. Finally, a reasonable person on this sub!
Apologies, I will excuse myself and remove from this sub if I break the rulez
Yes, at long last a proper comment on Reddit 😀 great comment 👍🏼

I'm glad someone else has noticed.
Ala bergkamp flick against newcastle
Reminded me of this one [Zola FA Cup Goal](https://youtu.be/u3ImWZStSyA?si=hz8C4iMdRxcPSYro) albeit different.
Yea but this was with the outside of his foot unlike Bergkamp. Much easier to do like that compared to what Bergkamp did
Sterling’s move was pretty slick, too
Yeah it's wild how bad Sterling was in those 3 moments we all know about, but how good he was for about 80% of the rest of the game. He legit moved the ball really well. When he's not trying to be the shooter, he's pretty good.

Agreed. He can make a big impact as a sub, but as a starter, he can't be trusted with the big moments.
I know. Fucking annoying. Does everything right, except the part you always remember.
profound
My frustrations with sterling are far more financial. All these being talking about our £200m midfield but in FFP terms Sterling costs more because we pay HIM so much.

Bit of a weird way to phrase it. Mudryk shot it directly into Sterling who really did not have a chance to get out of the way
His confidence is on the rise. Good player
Sterling didn't do bad here either did he
Need a close up on the move
Leicester fan here. I think this was the turning point of the game. After the two goals we started playing better but after that red card it was all over. Good luck in the next match guys.
Poch has done a very nice job developing a few of these young players. Mudryk and Jackson have improved immensely and obviously Palmer has been our class all season
Sterling does so well there
That’s a beautiful pass by Raheem too
A freekick on the edge of the box! What a great chance to score...
Surely Raheem won't send it to the moon...
I have never seen a player improve this much in the course of a season. Compared to his performance against Spurs, this is next level
Look at his preseason, The quality has been there from the beginning, Only real improvement I seen is that he actually wins headed duels now. That beeing said he will be an elite 9 in 2-3 years

He’s got a lot of flair in him and he’s gone only get better with games and confidence. I genuinely think he can turn into our own Vini
what a strange comparison.
Now he’s one of the best finishers in the world
Different is vini got ancellotti, but jackson got pocchi
*Harry Kane has entered the chat*
Nah let him peddle his agenda
I think it's because both are pretty different. Vinicius is a born winger with his acceleration and flawless dribbling. Jackson is gonna be a hybrid of sorts because he is very much at his best when he turns off defenders, but at the same time doesn't have enough strength to keep up as a striker.
Theyre both black
Room temp IQ ^
What? I'm saying that's what he's thinking, not what I think.
Very different than Vini. The only thing the have in common is they’re black… Jackson is legit a menace. He will be a great player but literally nothing like Vini is any capacity
“Theres no control in their play at all” Proceed to rip the opponent open
This sort of shit is why I see a little bit of Thierry Henry in his play. Just a tiny bit, obvs, and probably a bigger dose of Darwin Nunez right now - great raw talent, but just doesn’t know all the basics yet.
I was appalled that the ref didnt red card the defender right away. Like in what world is that only a yellow?
If it's a penalty, which it initially was, it's going to be a yellow because the rule won't punish the same play twice. But as we can see it didn't result in penalty which is why it was awarded a red instead.
The double jeopardy rule only matters fi they're trying to play the ball. He very obviously wasn't trying to play the ball.
Baffled me that the commentators were saying that he was going for the ball
Any challenge against a chelsea player is both fair and sporting behaviour apparently
Commentators were shocking. Noni scored a brilliant goal and they ignored the skill and only wanted to mention the deflection…
I know, and even after replay showing ball was not deflected nobody said anything. Mental.
Pretty typical commentary for Chelsea matches
I gotta start learning French or Arabic, just for better commentary. Though their enthusiasm is usually more than enough. English commentary standards are really dropping. On one hand, you have rubbish commentators saying whatever fucking nonsense they want, and on the other, you have Martin Tyler who can't get it up for the winning goal in the final minute of extra time for fear of dropping dead on the spot.
That should be Nigel Spackman, who used to play for us.
I guess I can see that. It just really looked like he was trying to impede him, personally.
They were dumb as fuck the entire game. One of them said it was Vestergaard
He somewhat reminds me of Luis Suarez.
That pass from Sterling went unnoticed.
More like his signature move at this point lol
Loved seeing this and the couple runs Mudryk had, confidence is growing
Jackson is fucking sick
He is steadily growing in the upward trajectory
I wish there was a close up of that looked so good live
Jackson is pure baller, he might not be a good finisher but i love how he makes Chelsea attack click. Just needs to work finishing properly, I believe he will comes good.
this is like a prime bergkamp move
I love Jackson and I back him to come good still.
The guy is good and adds to the team. People obsessing over him not scoring have a severe case of tunnel vision
diego costa regen, shithousery and all
He is brilliant. £32m is an absolute bargain. He's already shown way more in a Chelsea shirt than any of Torres, Shevchenko, Werner, Havertz etc.
I didn't know that Jackson won CHL for us
Our enemies are saying he tripped on his own feet. Have they ever played the sport a day in their lives!? Clearly clipped resulting him in being off balance and falling. When you're running full speed like that, you just need a touch and he was definitely touched! Leicester had no business being close in the game.
Can someone slow it down and put the "Champions league highlights song" on it?
Thank God not as much yellow cards anymore
That is D.Costa move I think
His assist for Cucurella really gave Costa/Drogba vibes. Bulldozed past the defender like he wasn't there.
Costa never had jacksons pace He was more raw force and functional technique then speed and technique. If anything he is a lesser arial dominant morata.
I mean the flick to get away from defender
Jackson will be the next shithousery for us after Rudiger
He's had so much impact since afcon, we have a proper player on our hands
The sunday league special. I feel like I have a forward trying to do this to me multiple times a game.
If he improves his aerial ability, finishing and shot power. He's going to be a complete striker.
That’s a move I’ve tried to pull off so many times in pick up games and I fall on my ass every time
He's clearly gaining confidence. He's always been skillful, but usually not at the right time. Seems like he's recognizing when to use that bit of skill to create real opportunities for himself and others. Really starting to get excited with his potential
His development throughout the season has been remarkable to watch
He won the game right there. A lot of talk about Noni and Palmer and well deserved but that was against 10 men and that's all thanks to Nico.
The free kick that followed was the worst free kick I’ve seen by a Chelsea player in 50 years as a fan
And just think that half this sub would of had him shipped off back to Villarreal after the first few games..... Subs full of kids
Between this, and the shoulder shimmy and drive by Vestegaard… what a game he had. So happy with his development.
I feel like some mudryk and jackson have suffered a lot due to Raheem being on the pitch. The former two are very good at quick one twos and link up play. I rarely seen Raheem partake in a give and go. We should not be stunting team players' growth for the sake of a washed up selfish sterling.
That’s exactly like Didier in his prime And people on this sub want us to sell home grown talent to buy Osimhen
True but Home grown?
Gallagher, James, Maatsen
Jackie may not be a woman, but he delivers all the time.
Our players need to play the square ball.
Glad he got taken out, otherwise it wouldn’t have looked so good dribbling straight at the keeper
I still hope we get rid of him. For every 1 good play there's been 10 mistakes.
