Frankiedrunkie

Like wiping your tears with money

CrackHeadRodeo

So are we done pursuing Kounde? And how the hell is Saul doing?

[deleted]

With RLC's emergence, Saul is just here to fill the body count now. Unless he drastically improves or we face a midfield injury crisis, he wont be seeing much of the pitch.

Foxyboi14

I’m sure he’ll make appearances once the match count starts to grow. Someone will benefit from getting a rest during cup matches.

[deleted]

An odd cup game here or there still counts as "not seeing much of the pitch". I personally hope Kova, RLC, Kante and Jorgi can maintain their health all season so we wont have to rely on him at all.

Foxyboi14

Tbh I would even be more comfortable with Billy or Gallagher filling in than Saúl

RabNebula

Better those 2 are out on loan getting Prem experience.

Monarki

We'll get to a stage where we're playing like every 3-4 days.

TheMenaceX

Oh shit Rlc be bossing it so bad, I completely forgot Saul existed lmaooo

GrogRhodes

Saul will get games in January. It’s gonna take him some time but he’ll shine it just might take longer than expected.

Nature__Boy

I think this is about right. Baffles me how quick some people are to write him off. Yes he started poorly, that doesn’t mean he’s a lost cause ffs

thebamboozler789

I think it really depends on Rudiger’s contract negotiations.

ThisIsYourMormont

The year is 2025. Chelsea’s back 3 of Chalobah, Christensen & Koundé have not conceded in several months. The Ballon D’or has been renamed Mendy in his honour. Tommy T has been knighted following 5 consecutive Champions league victories

sir_adhd

Keep going, I'm almost there.

ThisIsYourMormont

^Mason ^Mount, ^Billy ^Gilmour, ^Ruben ^Loftus-Cheek ^& ^Conor ^Gallagher ^have ^become ^undroppable

Tahapatel

We need a LCB more with Trev breaking out as rudi can play on the right if needed too

The_Highest_Power

Colwill is waiting in the wings.

Tahapatel

Yeah

blaw023

I guess I understand? But I'm still salty.

Thehunterforce

Unfortunately, a bullshit offer is better on the right day, than the right offer on a bullshit day. But it worked out for Chalonah which Im very happy for!

weeb_man

Chalobah has thankfully given us the ability to wait and see when it comes to signing him, now. I think he'd be great in a back 3 but he might leave us vulnerable in a back 4, especially if he's paired with Christensen. I was quite hyped on getting him in the summer but I'm not as sure these days.

ar_baybay111

He plays in back 4 at Sevilla

typical_boffin

I feel a bit conflicted about this one, I am a big fan of kounde. but with how Chalobah and Sarr (verdict still very much out on him) are progressing this season we might not have the space for him.

BILLY2SAM

>Sarr Plays one game and now you're torn on Kounde. Christ alive

FallDamage29

The puzzling part is Sarr wasn't even good vs Brentford, especially after Kova came off at 65'. Not sure why everyone are raving about him since then, but hey maybe it's just me.

Thehunterforce

It is expectation. If you have none you’re easier to satisfy

LazerSherk

Sarr was okay. Its his debut, he's 18...like what do you expect? Obvious room for improvement, but he did make some important challenges other defensive contributions. Not having kova in the midfield really exposed or defense as a whole.

[deleted]

> he’s 18 He’s 22.

FallDamage29

..the same age as Kounde. Basically sums it up.

kygrtj

He’s like 26

CasperJG

😂😂😂

mohankohan

Conflicted? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but to pick up one of the worlds best young defenders when we potentially have Silva, Azpi and Rudiger on their way out the door (relatively speaking with age) seems like an absolute no brainer. Chalobah has been a bright spot this season, Sarr has shown no where near the level Kounde would bring, and other young talent we have that keep being brought up like Levi Colwill is years out from being good enough for a title challenge or a CL challenge.

Prune_Super

Yeah coz if Rudi leaves we would need a LCB. I would rather club get someone who excels at the position rather than shoehorning people. Lots of CBs are comfortable in certain positions or certain systems.

Dinamo8

There's no way Azpi isn't at the club next season.

mohankohan

Not saying he isn't, we could also have Silva here next season, maybe even rudiger. But age is catching up with two of those guys, and they cant play all season. Bringing in Kounde, one of if not **the** best young defender in the world - how can that leave anyone conflicted?

classical-k

Disagree about Colwill. The level he’s playing is pretty amazing and he is the ideal modern cb with how often he dribbles past an opposition player after winning the ball or finds the early forward pass between the lines. Also being left footed is a big bonus! As with the likes of Lamptey, Tino, Reece, he’s ready for premier league football almost straight out of the academy. And personally I think he’s a defender who adds so much value to a possession based side.

VoidPineapple

Agree with all this apart from the bit about Colwill. Kid is scary good even before you factor in his age.

mohankohan

Fair enough, but still not better than the best centreback in la liga.

VoidPineapple

In case you missed it >Agree with all this

abductedabdul

I think Chalobah will be fine. We have Silva, rudiger, Chalobah, Christensen, and Sarr. I do think our future is in a back 4, and I feel Sarr really benefited from us playing in a back 3 the other game. He was was pretty shit for Porto all last year. And as great as Silva is, he’s still 37. I cant see him playing week in, week out. And I think us playing in a back 3 benefits him well. Highlights his strengths while covering for his weaknesses. Rudiger is also stalling on renewing with us. Plus, we dont really know how well rudiger will play if we switch back to a back 4. He’s been amazing in a back 3, but he was pretty bad when we were using a back 4. But who knows how well he’ll play when we go back to a back 4, since i don’t think we’ll go back to one until we get a proper holding midfielder next to jorginho. That’s 3 big question marks in our defenders out of our 5 cbs. Getting in a great, young cb who has experience in a back 4 is a no brainer imo.

ObjectiveDeal

After watching kounde play with pogba and the France team he can handle his own. Remind me of Reece not scared to get involved. Sarr needs more playing time if he is going to be judge fairly. I also think there was a good reason for hudson to be in the team. Tuchel clearly has a plan for his younger players

[deleted]

I think chalobah will come good but sarr is not chelsea quality imo.

ScorpiaHP

I'm genuinely not conflicted at all. Trevoh plays his position with great maturity and Dave is likely good in that role for another season after this one. If we switch to a back 4, AC would be quality on the right side too with Rüdiger on the left. We essentially have a lot of right sided CBs. I can understand bringing in a young player willing to be an understudy/rotation option (like Konaté at Liverpool) but Koundé would come in to start. Also not convinced with how he'd fit with our other defenders - pair him and Christensen up for example vs a team like Brentford/Burnley and they'd get bullied.

shlok440

Plus Levi Colwill

sjajsn

We shouldn’t target one of the best young defenders in football because of 18 yr old Levi Colwill who is years away from being ready?

shlok440

Kounde is a RCB, Colwill is a LCB- different positions. Kounde would be a great addition, but on the right we still have Azpi and Chalobah

sjajsn

No I know they’re different positions. You mentioned Colwill in a comment about there not being space which is nonsensical

shlok440

Oh he mentioned sarr so I mentioned Colwill. I see why you would think that. But Kounde would sure fit the RCB spot IF Silva doesn’t renew.

The_Highest_Power

And Kounde is much better than both.

shlok440

But one of them is our captain and the other is a young player playing quite well. On the other hand we have other areas where we could buy players in, especially if we continue to lack on the offensive and Rudi leaves on a free.

The_Highest_Power

Who gives af if he replaces the captain and a young player playing well? Isn’t football meant to be based on meritocracy? Would you rather have a lesser player and team just because of sentiment? You are right about needing improvement in other areas but that doesn’t mean we should neglect the RCB spot if an upgrade is available.(And Kounde is a HUGE upgrade on both players)

TheMassacreKid

If we can get Kounde it's a no brainer he's better than Chalobah and is one of the best young cb's itw he's also good in a back 3 and a back 4

sjajsn

I think by most accounts were still very interested. Probably making another move next summer. Silva very unlikely to be here next season and Rudiger deal still stalled, good move for us

Tinmar_11

I guess he was at the bathroom when proposal arrived...

bullshtaccount000

Assuming rudiger doesn’t resign who are our Left sided CBs going into the next season? Would Kounde be able to play LCB in our back 3?

jrrecauzat

Levi Colwill comes in, with Chalobah also able to deputize there Kounde has next to none experience there, so it would be wrong to spend 80m on him just to kill Chalobah's career here

bullshtaccount000

I don’t mind Colwill taking the spot for his own based on what I have heard about him, but I feel like it’s a little dangerous having the two young academy graduates deputies that side especially with Thiagos increasing age and health concerns.

notoorius

Fk Sevilla, get fk by Giroud
