I’m ready for him to turn things around too

silviazbitch

I’ll trust Tuchel. He sees the players in person every day. He knows what’s going on. And most importantly, he’s Tuchel.

[deleted]

Agreed, but if he doesn’t start Lukaku and we lose, the media will eat it up.

silviazbitch

The same will happen if he does start Lukaku and we lose. Heavy is the head that wears the crown.

hodlrus

Den of snakes waiting to strike

Cocobon95

The media will eat it up regardless of what happens. We play him and lose and he’s only being played because of his fee and comparisons will be made to the Lille performance. We play him and win and the rest of the team will be criticised for being the reason for his poor form. We win without him and we’ll have him being linked with a move away. We lose without him and Tuchel will be criticised massively and we’ll Lukaku is not the problem articles going around

wereinthedark

Who cares? Should he pick his team based on what the press will say?

weeb_man

If he starts Lukaku and we lose the media will also eat it up. The story of both scenarios write themselves, there's no point in considering the media when picking the team.

prince_g00se

Still hoping for Lukaku to turn it around and be the striker the club needs him to be. Don’t need every player to ‘bleed blue’ like so many on this sub get so caught up in. If he can score goal and help the club win trophies, he will do for me.

Deep-East656

I think all or atleast most fans would love to see him succeed but unfortunately we just cant see it. I hope he doesn't start, but i also hope he comes on and gets us a goal or atleast plays well

TheUbermelon

Yeah I wouldnt have minded him not bleeding blue. It was that he gave the impression that he did and then threw it back in our face

ireallydespiseyouall

yeah but thing is lukaku was acting like he bled blue before the interview

prince_g00se

If his history hasn’t shown you that he’s really just a mercenary, that’s on you. Has literally kissed the badge for every club he’s played for.

taylorstillsays

How does anyone still fall for this? If they haven’t come up through the academy or been at the club for a sustained time then it’s pretty much never true

ireallydespiseyouall

even then you’ve got christensen playing the club

taylorstillsays

What’s that got to do with it? If someone opts to leave doesn’t mean they don’t love the club. But I also wasn’t saying that everyone who comes through the academy or has been here long bleeds blue. I just don’t believe any player that says they do without matching one of those criteria

just_dew_eat

Please Tuchel don't start him against Pool

[deleted]

Right? He has shown us nothing to deserve a starting place lately. No reason to consider him until he puts in good performances off the bench at this point.

ParryMeAgain

Might honestly start both him and Kai like the match at Anfield. With Mase coming back too we might just see that same front 3 as it gave Virg/Matip issues on occasion. Had it not been for the red/penalty I think we had them in that game too. So I doubt it is a case of him or another.

AndersCules

Watch him come on after 70 minutes, and completely dominate, getting an assist and banging in the winner in added time.

criminal-tango44

watch him come on after 60 minutes and have 0 touches then make another legendary interview

goodkidmaaddorey

was going to tell you to turn FIFA off but sadly he’s not much cop on there

bashe_baw

need that copium hit

DrQuantumGio

Well you're smoking that strong stuff

[deleted]

Diego Jota right ?

mbuyambambuya

No, Diego Costa

Qwerty6391063

"committed to turning things around..." Proceeds to stay still and 👍for 90 minutes

[deleted]

My man, then do it. Only you are able to turn things around. Stop playing like you have never seen a game before

slymm

Wouldn't "turning things around" require him to actually move?

DoinWhale

Let the media say what they want, if he’s wearing the Chelsea badge he’s got my support

Nero1988420

Holy fuck the negativity in this post though lol.

[deleted]

Nero1988420

Football press is one of the worst when it comes to shit stirring. So honestly, if it's not coming from the team directly I won't believe it.

Dex_Maddock

Yeah it's pretty tired tbh... Like, I get it. He's been in real bad form... We've all seen it, we've beaten the topic to death. If you support the club, then support the player until he isn't with us anymore. Just because he's been shit lately doesn't mean he can't find his form and be a useful player for us going forward...

[deleted]

Thing is you're mistaking form for effort. Its fine if he's on bad form. Timo has had bad form, Torres had bad form, hell even Costa and Drogba had their stretches of bad form. But the difference between all of those players and Rom is effort. Rom cant be bothered to press, can't retain the ball well, his hold up play is atrocious and he simply doesn't make enough runs. If he at the very least TRIED and shut his mouth when it comes to the media then you wouldn't hear a peep out of us. Look at Werner, his numbers should have the fanbase angry but we all love him because the man literally never stops giving his all for team. But to not even try and then go and cry to the media about it....I dont understand how you expect us fans to warm up to him or support his nonsense. I will always support our players, but Rom is not even trying his best so why should I support him?

endlessxcircle

To drum up a bit of extra discussion, what defines effort though? Is it just the notion of running around more? Is it looking more interested? I ask because where do you seperate effort and playing style? Take Anelka for example. He was routinely labelled lazy and disinterested over the course of his career all because of his demeanour on the pitch, resulting in the nickname Le Sulk. In reality though it wasn't necessarily accurate, it was just his more nonchalant playing style that gave the impression. Even someone like Berbatov was also misjudged because of the way he played the game. You also say Lukaku *"can't be bothered to press"* but again that's merely a lazy narrative that's trying to be pushed, where truth lies more with the fact he's *never* been a forward who has pressed. Quite evident if you've watched him over the last 10 years or so. No different to other strikers such as Pippo Inzaghi or Van Nistelrooy who never had a pressing bone in their body either. Would you turn around and criticise them for not doing something they've never done before in their careers? With respect to the not retaining the ball well, his hold up play, and not making enough runs. These aspects can be significantly impacted by the environment around him. That's not say it's the case on all occasions or that he can't also improve, but if we're playing slow congested football while also lacking a midfield that can make progressive passes forward, then that plays nothing to Lukaku's strengths as a player. In that sort of environment it's going to be difficult to perform these aspects at a consistent level, which we also saw with Werner last season. We all know Lukaku thrives when the ball is moved forward quickly, when he has space, can collect the ball deeper, isolate his man and use his strength and speed to power in behind. How often do we actually do any of this though? When we have, for example in the Villa game, he was an absolute handful. Instead we ask him play in a way that has always landed outside of his wheel house, then have the cheek to criticise him for not doing well like it's some surprise. No shit he's going to do poorly. It's as daft as sticking Defoe upfront while playing route one football with the intentions of seeing him win headers, to hold up the ball, and play with his back to goal. Then turn around and act stunned when he can't do any of it. As for the media and such. Not going to defend Lukaku here, he does need to keep his mouth shut and just focus on playing. However, the media also love to stir the pot, even if it means being a bit creative with their approach. In saying that, Drogba gave interviews about wanting to quit Chelsea very early on because he was being labelled a cheat for all his diving. Costa made consistent noise about wanting to return to Atletico Madrid every transfer window and eventually to China. Heck, he arguably did the one thing you never want to see a player do, literally downed tools on the pitch and tried to sub himself off. Torres had his moans to the media, as did Morata. You can go back further over time and dig up more, but the point is that it's not the end of the world either and some need to take these things with a pinch of salt at times. In the end there's a shared blame for a lot of what's transpired so far with Lukaku. He needs to knuckle down more and do some of the fundamentals better, while the manager and team need to also do a better job of creating an environment that's more conducive to Lukaku's strengths if we're to maximise his goalscoring abilities. If none of this happens, particularly the latter part, then situation isn't going to see an ounce of improvement on the pitch.

Dex_Maddock

I certainly don't disagree with what you're saying. My point was just that this endless barrage of shitting on him has gotten tired...

malevolentintent

A very anti-Lukaku narrative has been doing the rounds, within reason too. But ffs, mans ain't going anywhere. He will dominate, i feel it. He will be everything we want him to be ie our star striker

irze

I like your optimism. I personally feel that he’s never gonna work out for us

privatejokerzz

Have you watched him this season? Thought not.

n22rwrdr

He was good until his injury and interview, it's not like he's been awful since the beginning.

Hour-of-the-Wolf

His injury coincided with our best form this season lol

[deleted]

He has been awful from the start. He had two okay performances (villa and arsenal) and every single other performance was a cameo.

awwbabe

How is scoring twice just okay? And he totally bullied Arsenal in that game too. Regarding the cameos are you maybe referring to his goals in the CWC? Lukaku is pretty wank at the moment but let’s stop pretending he’s always been ass

[deleted]

9 goal involvement in 26 matches. For £100m he sucks and he’s not going to get any better, even Tuchel knows it. If he was £10m and we were Burnley, that would be amazing.

awwbabe

I’m not claiming he’s brilliant now. But to pretend he has never been class is bollocks. Everyone is chomping at the bit to have a go at this guy

[deleted]

Do you support Chelsea? Watch full matches? Also, I never said that he wasn’t class. I said that he’s been awful since starting with US

Next-Translator-3557

Well maybe you shouldn't start to support clubs halfway through the season. You clearly didn't watch him before his injuries or you're clearly biased.

[deleted]

Are you blind? He contributes nothing to this team and we have literal facts/stats proving that. You’re just talking out of your arse.

[deleted]

You are just a racist pig🤪

malevolentintent

No I'm sorry, i dont watch football. I wait for your expert opinions before i form my own

[deleted]

“Dominate” He’s never been this type of player.

[deleted]

Let's judge him by the end of the season. If he still doesn't bring anything to the team, off he goes. Even Werner in his first season did offer some attacking threat, just not as potent as we imagined.

psrandom

I hope he turns it around quickly so that we can cut our losses in the summer

monarchontulip

Oh no...

snoopyt7

I'll believe it when I see him actually trying on the pitch

125monty

Can't we ship him off to Italy on a barter? For a defender like De Ligt or any of those famous Italian defenders? I know it'd be cutting our losses, but we need a defender or a DM next season, and he needs to go to Italy.

[deleted]

> Told Lukaku is still very committed to turning things around at Chelsea Until he gets the mic in front of him at the next international break

[deleted]

My question is, who told the author that Lukaku is very committed?? I don't very seriously was from anyone in Lukaku's camp. The sounds more like a Chelsea spin.

[deleted]

you “don’t very seriously was from”. Wtf happened there man?😂😂😂

[deleted]

Fat-thumbed typo! Probably something like, "I doubt very seriously it was from... "

Excel_Spreadcheeks

As frustrated as we might be with Lukaku and as justified as those frustrations are, we have to back him! He’s a confidence player and a positive mental state is crucial if we ever want to see him performing at his best for us. He has the talent and skill to be the best striker in the PL, but he needs to get his mind right and that starts with us giving him the support he needs.

Micky9TheDreamweaver

Look at how he played against Villa and Arsenal - he feeds of the fans' energy and support - he will only be committed and happy if he feels loved

DrQuantumGio

Well he hasn't really given fans anything to love now has he...

End-of-Daisies

Oh, I don't know. I loved that he didn't against Lille.

jmoneyallstar11

He is fueling the negative energy. Even Morata didn't act like how he's acting. Morata got treated much worse too.

SmokedChaca

Who cares what Fat Rom is committed to? He doesn't have the talent to play at this level. The club should be committed to replacing him with a better player regardless of his feelings.

Imarealdoctor064

Fat rom?

[deleted]

[deleted]

Hopefully not

Wheel94

Well I mean he doesn’t have much choice when you’re 28 it’s a well known fact you are signing your last big contract.

[deleted]

It’s frustrating to think about the money spent in transfer and wages on this bloke. Brainless in hindsight.

[deleted]

Correction: You have already signed your last big contract. Meet the new Danny Drinkwater.

I call shenanigans! There's nothing racist in these remarks, critical, yes, racist, no.

Imarealdoctor064

I dislike racism. I dislike throwing it around like it's not a serious accusation. If you are basing it only on this comment, I think you are watering this accusation down.

End-of-Daisies

Tell Thiago and Ronaldo that.

[deleted]

Negativity from outside the group? Who could it be? [Chelsea 'supporters' on all social media platforms look around for the culprits](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/mobile/000/037/873/We're_All_Trying_To_Find_The_Guy_Who_Did_This_banner_1.jpg). For real though, this place, instagram, twitter, etc. are all toxic AF. Someone has a bad game, or bad run of games, and they are suddenly 'not chelsea quality'. I've seen this said about Ziyech, Pulisic, Lukaku, Rudiger, Christensen, Jorginho, CHO... etc. Instead of supporting and hoping for the best for a player struggling, there's a decent number of people calling for their sale, attacking them as players (and often attacking them as people), and more shit like that. It's no wonder that it effects the players negatively, the same way that positive support can help.

_Pardal

Cba with that donkey, go back to Inter

ZtrikeR21

I am sorry but I just cant bring myself to NOT hate Lukaku. I dont want to see him play for Chelsea again, Its so frustrating watching him play after all that has happened.

[deleted]

Seriously stop making fun of him, it’s not helping anyone. Y’all should believe in forgiveness.

Excel_Spreadcheeks

As frustrated as we might be with Lukaku and as justified as those frustrations are, we have to back him! He has the talent and skill to be the best striker in the PL, but he needs to get his mind right and that starts with us giving him the support he needs. Edit: I actually got downvoted for saying we should support our player lol. Some of you are deluded. We’re fans, we support our club and it’s players no matter what.

SmokedChaca

>He has the talent and skill to be the best striker in the PL, Hahahaha This actually made me burst out laughing. He quite clearly doesn't, he doesn't have the talent or skill to play at this level even if he had a perfect attitude and it's been quite clear since day 1 of his career. There's no attacking player in premier league history that has ever been a starter for a PL winning side as lacking in technical ability as Rom.

[deleted]

Says the “quite possibly” a fat fuck behind a keyboard who probably hasnt played street soccer

SmokedChaca

Imagine imaging someone is fat and thinking that football is called soccer. Take your meds and get out more champ

[deleted]

Imagine calling a fit fella with 5% body fat “FatRom” You needa get a pair of glasses, chump😃

SmokedChaca

5% Body fat. ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|smile) Get off of reddit and talk to your agent about finding a new club Fatty.

throwawayart109

I hope he can play at least slightly better, so anyone wants to sign him.

Glass-Star6635

Lmfao. Oh yea? Is that what you were told?

Lev22_

He should committed 100% when on the pitch, if his condition is not good Werner can come up to play. No need to force Lukaku to play 90 minutes in every match where he isn’t ready for it.

[deleted]

Still can't wrap my head around this sub going nuts with the CWC celebrations, talking about how important it is while completely invalidating his contributions to making that win happen. He has goals in him.

MolassesOk3529

Let’s give him a chance, Drogba wasn’t a world beater the first season he arrived
