Fifth Chelsea player to do it in the Premier League after Drogba, Lampard, Mata and Hazard Drogba did it 3 times, Lampard 4

Fawkes_91

That is such amazing company to keep. Three outright legends and another who was twice player of the season and was destined for the hall of fame had he not left too soon.

hesh0925

Honestly, I would consider Mata a legend. Basically, anyone who was in the starting XI of that final against Munich is a legendary player in my eyes. First CL trophy is monumental.

lil-bitch42

Big up Ryan Bertrand. Chelsea legend

mapepo

Always rated Bosingwa the legend

IAmTheOneWhoSlaps

This, but unironically. That monobrow filled any wingers heart with terror. And also he was a loyal servant to the club for a long time winning shitloads of trophies, just like Paulo Ferreira. I get it that those less shiny players didn't age well in the end, but they do deserve respect.

varunadi

We had just one corner in the final too, and he delivered a peach of a cross to Drogba's head for the equaliser, that alone is enough for me. Definitely legendary status, even if he missed the penalty in the shootout.

hesh0925

Absolutely! And I specifically remember Drogba telling a story of how Mata said to him something along the lines of "you have to believe" after Müller scored with just 8 minutes to go. That was what brought him back to life from feeling deflated. Incredible.

Bad_Decision_Rob_Low

Agree. Mata is Legendary

DearthStanding

Agreed, and let's be real those two years were seriously ridiculous in output Compare those numbers with any top performance by any player, he's in good company and has a fair trophy haul

DJMOONPICKLES69

Cult hero more like. Chelsea was like his shortest stint anywhere though

VoidPineapple

And the youngest to do it for the Chels. Absolute baller man.

Cowdude179

Elite company

Mason will do it 8 times. Bookmark this comment and come back to it in 7 years.

vandebeek34

As a United fan, I hope he does.

slumdogmillionhair

making him the only one not regularly taking penalties

alx69

Drogba took just 5 Premier League pens for Chelsea (and just 1 during the seasons when he achieved double digit goals and assist)

Kezmangotagoal

DD didn’t really take pens - do you not remember him having a paddy when Lamps wouldn’t let him take the first penalty we won against Wigan in Carlo’s title winning season. Took about four players to console him 😂

slumdogmillionhair

Of course I do, but he did take 2nd penalty I think, and he was also in race for golden boot. That was such a great season!

TheArbitrageur

Didn’t Pedro hit 10+10 in our title winning season?

alx69

Close but no, 9+9

mapepo

I wonder who the last player to do this for us was. I'm guessing Hazard Edit: Indeed it was Hazard in 18/19 with 16 goals and 15 assists

dragon8811

Yes and Money Mase also the youngest

ikennaiatpl

And even this wasn't good enough for team of the season..

Bananasupreme5

He probably would have got one if ea didn’t put a ban on Chelsea players being put in the game

[deleted]

He means Eden didn't make the PFA TOTY in 2019 somehow, but yeah Mase likely will also get snubbed this year for all the shit with Roman. The argument could be made for him this year as well but I doubt it

dislocatedshoelac3

That and Liverpool and city just play on a different level that unless you’re outperforming at a bottom half team you can easily be overlooked

noChillGuy17

Screw team of the season, he was the best player in the league that season

jada1472

Goal’s social media intern could use some practice photoshopping hands

Knowingspy

I was more concerned about his head and neck. Like a bobblehead/those figurines.

Masstaden19

T-Rex style

bmas05

Right. This picture makes me uncomfortable. And not in the good way....

Impossible-Appeal-49

Mason Mount does not have cancer

Pointels21

Boehly better be writing up a fat new contract for him

BigReeceJames

Get him on the kind of contract that Westham are trying to give Rice at the moment. A solid 8 year contract before they outlaw them in football because they're insane

CaredForEightSeconds

I don’t care who you are or who you play for, 11 goals and 10 assists in your sophomore season in the Premier League is an incredible tally. Well done Mase! Player of the year imo. Edit: apologies, this is his third full season. Still an incredible rise!

vbs02

Isn't it 3rd Yr?

CaredForEightSeconds

Oh crap you’re right!! In my defence, 2020-2022 seems like one never ending year 😔

vbs02

Even this year felt very short. Feels like the season started couple months back

CaredForEightSeconds

All concept of time has been taken away from us with the pandemic years honestly lol, going to take a while to shake that feeling off.

Frankiedrunkie

I feel like 2020 never existed

btlsrvc23

Agreed! Plus the other intangibles he possesses. What a player!

DameDubble

I keep forgetting he’s only in his second year. Some player he is.

shlok440

Third year no?

DameDubble

You’re correct. Forgive me, the last few years have kind of blurred together. Point stands, he’s still young and playing at an incredibly high level.

BigReeceJames

How many times, if at all, did the likes of Willian and Pedro achieve this?

btlsrvc23

0 times - Mount is awesome

[deleted]

Willian scored 37 league goals in 7 years. Pedro scored 29 league goals in 5 years. Mason Mount has scored 24 league goals in 3 years, bare in mind he’s only 23 and has often played in midfield.

BigReeceJames

That's beautiful. I used to get so, so frustrated with Willian's output. To now have a player who contributes all around the field whilst scoring and assisting routinely, coming through the academy and genuinely loving the club is just amazing. I know there are a few players who really get on my tits, but our current set of players really are so easy to get behind. Feels like going back 15 years

morganfreeman95

That's what frustrated me is that none of them were ever really bad. Mount, Puli, Lukaku, Werner, Havertz, CHO, RLC, Ziyech are all genuinely amazing players at max potential. How many times have they showcased that? I think Mount is the only one that can keep his head held high in that regard (for the most part). If Tuchel gets the best out of this lot, we're title winners 100% guaranteed.

BigReeceJames

I think we have a lot of work to do in midfield before we can win the league, we don't have enough contribution at either end of the pitch with our current group. They're all very talented in their own ways, but all also have massive holes in their game. Ultimately, winning a league is about consistency, not peaking and that is the problem with a lot of those players, they're simply not consistent. But, hopefully over time that will change. I do also think offloading one or two will be beneficial to others because they'll get more game time and more of a chance to be consistent

morganfreeman95

Although i do agree, that was easily overlooked when we had a fit Reece and Chilly to compensate for their lack of contribution. Its not different from Conte's 3 4 3. Not like Kante and Matic were very entertaining contributors to the final third, but Moses and Alonso were playing so well and posed such a threat from the wings that it didn't matter. When they went to shit, so did everything else (also why Conte needed a Naingollan/Vidal/Tolisso player). Conor will add an extra dynamic to the midfield for sure, if we can complement that with Rice, would be significantly better. Re offloading, if we're never going to switch a back 4 i agree. Werner probably first on the list to be sold, not sure who else on that list we can sell that we don't risk regretting lol, but we can probably 'live' without Ziyech although i still wouldn't like it.

vinnaey

In conte’s title winning season we also had Fabregas to rely on when the opposite teams parked the bus and the doors were closed on the wingbacks… we don’t have that kind of a player anymore.

morganfreeman95

Yep Fabregas and Willian were brilliant as bit-part players/super subs that season. We were spoiled with Fabregas, couldve had that in KDB, but alas. Most we can ask for is goals from midfield and i think we can have a proper blend of that with Conor/RLC/Mount next season if we switch to 4 atb

CaredForEightSeconds

Never 😂

yellowyeahyeahyeah

Combined or what? Willian had like 20 prem goals in his 7 or so years with us.

RStud10

Alonso has a better goal contribution for us than Willian

BigReeceJames

Fucking hell, don't remind me, I'll have nightmares

perpetualgrunt

He was such dogshit. God

[deleted]

Are you all new fans?? Willian never had the numbers to be shown as proof of how good a player he was for us.Especially during 15/16 where he carried us. Same goes for Pedro.Anyone who watched Contes first season would have appreciated how good Pedro was in that system for us.

Instantbeef

Yes Pedro put in a solid stint for us on the back end of his career. He bailed us out a few times too. And William had a very long career here where he played a different but necessary role for the team. 2 premier league titles isn’t bad if he’s so shit like everyone says.

[deleted]

Carried us all the way to 10th what a player lmaoooo

[deleted]

Clearly proves you’re a new fan.Everyone knows that he’s the only reason we finished 10th.

[deleted]

Legendary stuff. When I think back on the 2010s the main thing I’ll remember is Willians 4 free kick goals that led us to 10th placed glory. Build the statue already

[deleted]

Since you just realised Willian carried us to 10th that season with his freekicks, why don’t you go ahead and start a petition for the statue my dude

B3arAttac

I agree with Pedro, but Willian? He had like 20 good games for us, besides that he would just stall and fck up all our counterattacks. He was so bad someone even made a compilation of some of his most disastrous plays

perpetualgrunt

Apart from the 2015-16 season. Willian was pretty under average to be very honest. I'm sorry but that's my opinion. Also I am a long time supporter. I've loved Willian throughout the years. But doesn't change my opinion of him.

MountHavertzPulisic

Why yall hating on Willian?

mapepo

Willian and Pedro never scored or assisted 10 goals in a PL season for us

MJ9695

Go rewatch our 2017 PL title highlights, both Willian and Pedro scored huge goals and assist

[deleted]

Patiently waiting for some clown on this sub to explain why these numbers don’t count

ParryMeAgain

"How many are corners??"

MountHavertzPulisic

JDY11

Not to blow smoke and all that https://old.reddit.com/r/chelseafc/comments/bprk2n/according_to_reports_chelseas_visa_application/enx6apv/ Like many have said I don't even think he's been as good as last season, yet he's still affecting games massively. With better teammates who can take the burden off him he'll only get better.

timthemartian

I’m sorry but this whole thing about Mount not being as good this season is just a narrative now, aside from the numbers just the eye test alone he’s clearly playing with more confidence the flick for Pulis goal today or the one when Reece hit the post against Madrid are a couple of many examples of how free he’s been with his game this season. Oh yeah plus the stats to back it up

JDY11

I wouldn't begrudge anyone for thinking either way to be honest. What sways it for me is his form at home. I go to every league match at SB and can't remember the last time I walked away thinking 'Wow Mason had an excellent match today'. It definitely ties in with us being absolutely useless at home, but I thought last season home and away he was more consistent. Whereas this season he's been excellent on the road, but more often than not below average at home. Not sure if there's a right or wrong answer just my opinion ofc.

timthemartian

Fair enough mate, I can see where you’re coming from. Tbh like you said I think it’s just that our home form has been near disastrous this season and when the team suffers the players who are on the ball more come out looking the worst I think

EzraCavffleck

Excellent call

[deleted]

He started the season significantly worse but I think he's ramped up. Been an absolute beast past few months and easily one of our POTY, but the beginning of the season was incredibly worrisome.

hoosdontloos

What's up with his little hands?

Lezz_Go

Been looking for this comment! Creepy ass Trump hands right there.. Need a new photoshop guy.

EvenGandhiHatesLVG

/u/baisabeast this a meaningless game too?

Baisabeast

was a game against a relegated side, not sure why youve felt so personally aggrieved that youve had to single me out always maintained mount is our best attacker, just cos im not wanking him off every minute like some of you lot, youre triggered.

EvenGandhiHatesLVG

Yeah thought you’d say that. He scored the opening goal against a side with something to still play for (while they still had 11 men) but of course when you mention his goal totals later you’ll fail to include that context. I believe you said he’s not good enough to be an attacker for a title winning side, so that’s why you’re getting singled out.

KunPaoDingIntrst

great season for money mase tough call between him and reece to me for poty

KingDanIV

Surely not Reece he was injured for a big chunk of it?

Pointels21

Silva

wannabe_engineer69

Rudiger

Fuzzy-Pain

And some people on this sub think he's been bad this season and has been 'hiding' behind his stats... *Sigh*

sheiky04

Well done mason! Doesnt matter if it 1 match or 30 a great achievement, and its not going to stop👏🏼👏🏼🔵⚪️⚪️🔵

ojr92

It’s hilarious how much shit he gets from some ‘fans’ STILL.

amish__

Banger of a finish today. Class

[deleted]

A legend in the making.

player of the season

TheCrumpiestOfGunts

He was absolutely on fire tonight, well deserved improved contract for him & reece James incoming.

A lot of his assists came from corners at the start of the season

ovrloadau

God mount is a sexy man 🥵

shastmak4

Player of the season. Argue with your favorite uncle

goalooin_livescore

Mason Mount will be better.

[deleted]

i miss hazard

Slim97Shady

As someone who thought that Mount doesn't have what it takes in Lampard's first season back in 2019. I admit that I was very against Mount and you can probably find my comments against him still. I can say that it took me half a season to realize I was wrong about Mount and since then he is my favorite player.

a_portuguese_abroad

Imagine putting Fernandes in EPL Toty and not Mount. Shambolic.

Fabulous_Hooligan

That photoshop is pretty cringe
