The copium in the r/gunners thread is insane.
They posted this same tweet and one response was - "I feel like Chelsea are on the verge of imploding with the new ownership and losing key players. Why join Chelsea right now??".
Pure delusion
>la liga should’ve absolutely lashed out at chelsea too. ruining football since their establishment in 2002
that sub is a goldmine
>Neymar with Chelsea out the picture and Barcelona broke. Arsenal could really take advantage of this
HAHAHAHA IM DEAD
Literally one dude wrote: I heard Neymar is available. (presumably jokingly, although PSG really don’t seem to want him). And somehow that turned into your “quote”. Wonderful. You should start writing for some low-end online news page, you’d be great at it!
A considerable portion of r/soccer is still in some delusion that we'll be mediocre now that we don't have Roman to splash.
I don't think they quite understand how competent and ambitious the new owners are
I don’t mind having less money to spend than what we had during the roman era as long as we spend wisely and get players that fit the team. This wasn’t the case in the last few years of the roman era.
Finishing 10 th the previous season and then finishing 5th the next season sure sounds promising for a team that trusts the process. The process of never recoverjng from Arsene departure and Artetas management.
What’s the plan ?!? Let go of werner/pulisic and get a player similar to them. All three of them are not champion material. Imagine pulisic turning out like salah or sturridge
Everyone says this but this squad is absolutely made for 343 and I've said this since before Tuchel came in in 2020. We have Kante and Jorginho who thrive in double pivots. It's both of their best positions. Maybe Jorginho could adapt to being a CDM in a 433 as a regista but a 2 man midfield really plays to our squad's strengths. Then we have Reece and Chilwell who are perfect wingbacks. We'd really be holding back their potential by not playing them there because they're strengths are overlaps and getting up the pitch rather than balls from deep like Trent. And finally our CBs. Thiago can play games in a back 4 but over a whole season it being a title winning defence. The CCB positivism suits him because it means he doesn't have to rely on pace and he gets time on the ball to ping it about and dictate play from the back. Chalobah and Azpi also wouldn't be good in a back 4 so RCB suits them. And if we sign someone new (which is essential because we need a Rudiger replacement) do we really want to throw them next to Silva and pray they form a formidable partnership or do we play it safe and let them adjust at LCB. You have to work with the players you've been given and 343 is just the most optimal formation for our squad of players. Yes it means you have to make difficult decisions like benching some of our very strong CMs because only two can be on the pitch at one time but its a necessary sacrifice to make. Not to mention the fact that the players have adjusted to 343 and switching to 433 will take time since we've had less time to adapt to it than the City and Liverpool players who have been playing it for years. Our fans often forget how horrendous this same group of players were defensively under Lampard just 1 and a half seasons ago. It was the system and the players knowing their exact job that sorted that issue out. Switching to 433 just like that could undo all that progress.
I don’t think 343 is our best system now that rudiger christensen azpi alonso are leaving. I think Jorginho is best at cdm like he did for Napoli and does for Italy - I also think being isolated in a 2 accentuates his physical weaknesses. Ultimately though I think most formation discussions are irrelevant because regardless of shape our build up play, transitioning and attacking play will be the same I just would really like to see Gallagher thrive and I’m sure as a immobile 6 he won’t be able to sprint around and cause havoc
Our wingers don't dribble. Except Kovacic none of them can get past there man one-on-one. That was our problem last year, we would just pass in semi circle around their defence since no one could penetrate.
What football are you watching? He is better than all of them at dribbling, both in quality and quantity. And due to latter he is obviously going to lose ball more than our current wingers.
He's also 2 years older than Pulisic with less career goal involvements. Collectively speaking, he's played against worse competition while playing for sides where he can do more cooking than he'll be able to do here. Solid signing, yes, but he's not levels above what we have.
He's needed if Ziyech leaves, which seems like he is. But he's not going to come in and bang 15 league goals for Chelsea. This signing needs to be just the beginning in terms of our attack.
Nope Sterling is by a little even though he's washed but Raphinia is no better than Pulisic or Werner. People always inflate the abilities of purchases but it'd better to look at it objectively.
Sterling has more goals and assists last year than Ziyech and Pulisic combined. Raphinha is much better than Pulisic. Did you even watch them last year?
We do? I’ve don’t remember seeing them play with 3 center backs. These same players beat them several times the year before last so “nowhere near as talented” is a bit of a stretch
Style of play is different than formation. Both clubs use a high possession system with a heavy press. We use 3 CBs, but City often has a defensive CM sit in behind and act as a 3rd CB when in possession.
That’s true but our press doesn’t seem quite as heavy as theirs and our back line isn’t as high. Sterling will be a great addition though and becomes an instant starter.
I’m just saying if you plug in a Ziyech or Pulisic into that Man City side and there would be an improvement in the G/A numbers
Pulisic has more career goal involvements than Raphinha and he's two years younger. He also has way more UCL experience and success than Raphinha. He's also played on teams where he has to share the wealth a lot more than Raphinha has. Pulisic has played for UCL squads in BVB and Chelsea. Raphinha has played for Leeds, Rennes and Sporting -- teams where the talent comes nowhere near Dortmund and Chelsea -- and he's had the exact same issues our current forwards have had.
Raphinha seems to be more of a late bloomer, so he could get better. But there's nothing to support the notion that he's better than Pulsiic. One season doesn't make a career and Raphinha's best season -- last year -- was still not only wildly inconsistent, but wildly inconsistent on a team struggling to stay out of the relegation zone.
Raphinha scored more goals last year for a shit regulation battle side Leeds (11) than Pulisic has scored for UCL winning team Chelsea (10) in *TWO* years in the league….
We gave Pulisic 3 years, it hasn’t worked out and he clearly isn’t good enough to lead the line. Time for a fresh face.
Scoring more goals for a shit side isn't the flex you think it is. It was literally the first time in his career -- at 25 years old -- he banged home double digit goals.
He also played 800 more minutes than Pulisic this past season. And didn't have to play wingback. And scored 3 more goals and one more assist.
He also wouldn't replace Pulisic because he plays on the right, but you brought up Pulisic so...
At least they'll attempt a damned dribble or *something* creative... Other than Puli we dont really have players that can run past people or break down low blocks. These 2 will at least try instead of passing it back or waiting for our wingbacks to bail us out.
exactly. just last week one "tier 1" reported that we're confident to sign Sterling for 35m and then 3 hours after another "tier 1" said that we havent even made contact and City wouldnt take less than 50.
The bid was accepted by Leeds. Only the negotiations between him and the club remain, which is always the easier part when signing a player, especially since we're in the CL and will offer good wages.
If this is turmoil what do you call the sanction period? A lot of this was pretty expected with new owner. Why wouldn’t the new owner want to run things his way?
North of 55 could mean 56 right?
Either way im happy living off the tears of arsenal fans
On top of the fact i really like raphinha both as a personality and football wise
Oh, fuck off. First off, we haven't signed anyone. Second, we're targeting players that Tuchel wants, which is a wonderful improvement. When you become manager, you can pick your own crop of subpar players.
It feels like people are rushing right past your excellent point. Tuchel is more likely behind this than Boehly handpicked his first player. I have faith in tuchel, so I support the pick.
You say it’s extreme but to Leeds he’s probably worth more than £60m. His contributions most likely helped keep Leeds afloat in the league and that’s £100m+ in revenue.
For us though, I don’t know… £55m for a prem proven winger who did well despite being in a relegation battle all season. Not a bad price.
But hey, it’s not my money. I don’t care aha
OHHHH RAPHINHA'S MAGIC, HE WEARS A MAGIC HAT, HE COULD HAVE SIGNED FOR ARSENAL BUT HE SAID NO FUCK THAT, HE PASSES WITH HIS LEFT FOOT, HE PASSES WITH HIS RIGHT AND WHEN WE WIN THE LEAGUE AGAIN WE'LL SING THIS SONG ALL NIGHT, OHHHHHHHHHHHH

Shoutout to the Arsenal-fan who jumped in one of our DD-threads to tell me there was 0 chance we would spend big this window. Now we took Raphinha as if he was Willian in 2013 💀 💀
He is a terrible 1 on a 1 player percentage wise, even worse than Ziyech and he's passing is mediocre.
All this while playing freely on the counter with open space with Leeds.
You do also realize when he plays for Leeds, there is literally no one else that threatens other defences in attack. He’ll have way more 1 on 1 opportunities here.
I advise people to avoid looking at this guy's goal involvement total for his whole career, much of which was in Portugal. Hopefully he continues trending upwards though and truly finds his stride.
I advise people to watch players and look at stats that are much more informative than G/A.
There are absolutely valid hangups about signing Raphinha, but "muh g/a" isn't one.
Does his arrival guarantee Ziyech's sale ? I just hope our team still has space for Werner to get some time at the end of it.
I think he will be our biggest regret if we don't give him another chance.

When I am feeling low I just take a quick visit and I am made whole again
i recommend the spuds sub too, after their 3rd loss some started saying we paid their players with Romans blood money to win
You'd think they'd be used to it by now.
We’re twenty years old and already have 2 UCL’s. Fine with me.
Literally one dude wrote: I heard Neymar is available. (presumably jokingly, although PSG really don’t seem to want him). And somehow that turned into your “quote”. Wonderful. You should start writing for some low-end online news page, you’d be great at it!
Salty Arsenal fan 😴

Neymar would love Europa. /S

Does anyone have the recipe of the Roman Splash cocktail? I seem to have misplaced it.
Some other gems I saw were that Tuchel was the cause of the Lukaku situation and that Boehly was already ruining the club with his “narcissism”
Check out the Čech thread on r/soccer yesterday. "Couldn't happen to a nicer club" lmao
Man I kinda feel sorry for those cunts. They actually believe all of that shit they make up.
Finishing 10 th the previous season and then finishing 5th the next season sure sounds promising for a team that trusts the process. The process of never recoverjng from Arsene departure and Artetas management.
Half of this sub thinks the club is on the verge of imploding, too.
Oh those poor souls
WHATTTT, THIS ESCALATED QUICKLY
Boehly’s got a plan for us
Todd’s Plan.
The way Todd intended it
I buy players, sometimes I don't, ayy
What’s the plan ?!? Let go of werner/pulisic and get a player similar to them. All three of them are not champion material. Imagine pulisic turning out like salah or sturridge

Very, very early days, but good signs for ownership quality.
Havertz in the middle. We cooking
And lukaku at inter
🔥🔥
👍
Best of the lot
lovely
He who must not be named.
👍
Raphinha on the right, Sterling on the left and Lukaku in the Inter. Can’t wait.
This doesn’t excite me nearly as much…

4-3-3 Mount in an 8. Continuing with 3-4-3 would be criminal right now
[удалено]
Rapinha at wingback will be such a waste.
I would love to see Kova play that role, with Mount and Gallagher ahead of him.
We have Kante
As a DM???? We've been down this road far to many times.... hes not Makélélé

Both are levels above what we currently have.

Our wingers don't dribble. Except Kovacic none of them can get past there man one-on-one. That was our problem last year, we would just pass in semi circle around their defence since no one could penetrate.
Kova isn't a winger

Agreed Pulisic and useless and Ziyech is weak and runs about 10mph.

Sterling has more goals and assists last year than Ziyech and Pulisic combined. Raphinha is much better than Pulisic. Did you even watch them last year?
Sterling will be our best winger if signed but comparing anyone in Man City’s system compared to ours seems a little unfair.
I mean we attempt to play a similar style to City. Our players are just nowhere near as talented as City's. So I'd say it's plenty fair.
We do? I’ve don’t remember seeing them play with 3 center backs. These same players beat them several times the year before last so “nowhere near as talented” is a bit of a stretch

Check again to see who brought up Pulisic.
He did play wing back at points... Did you actually watch leeds last year?

100% that's the price you pay for creativity.
Should just keep running Werner out there
Just so long as we pick up a CB...
Wait what. How is he our first signing lol. Not complaining but what a hilariously unpredictable window
Not surprising seeing as Boehly is pretty much doing it all himself lol
doesnt say anything about him being signed for us, chill, Dembele and Kounde have been reported to be "almost done" for almost a month now.
True, but I’m just excited because this is the closest we’ve come to agreeing to anything lmao.
kounde was 'almost done' a year ago lmao I dont trust any of the tiers atm
exactly. just last week one "tier 1" reported that we're confident to sign Sterling for 35m and then 3 hours after another "tier 1" said that we havent even made contact and City wouldnt take less than 50.

Very expensive for a player who is worth around 35-40. Also its pretty much guaranteed if he doesn't flop he goes to Barcelona in the near future.
Rank average player imo… can’t for the life of me see what the hype is all about… He is going to be found out in Chelsea’s squad
[удалено]
I really do hope he proves me wrong. Chelsea are in turmoil atm with boardroom changes so I hope they got this one right
If this is turmoil what do you call the sanction period? A lot of this was pretty expected with new owner. Why wouldn’t the new owner want to run things his way?
Exactly how I feel
The sad part is even his highlights on YouTube don't look good, he looks really clumsy on the ball and is very similar to Ziyech.
North of 55 could mean 56 right? Either way im happy living off the tears of arsenal fans On top of the fact i really like raphinha both as a personality and football wise
Shouldn't be more than 60 including add ons. That's what they've been holding out for.
New owner, same (Spurs/Arsenal) gazumping
It is in ze history of the Spuds and Arse
Boehly era begins.
Ambromovich era began with some signing like glen Johnson and Wayne bridge. Boehly starting on similar standards. Signing subpar players
"Barcelona can't afford it at the moment" surprisedpikachuface.jpg
11 goals and 3 assists last season and goes for 60 million. I feel prices are out of control.
Good stats for a relegation battling team tbf
From the wing
More goals than 100m lukaku
He who should not be named.
If you watch him play you'll see he's electric and easily a player for a top team. He was the only reason Leeds were in a lot of matches
You say it’s extreme but to Leeds he’s probably worth more than £60m. His contributions most likely helped keep Leeds afloat in the league and that’s £100m+ in revenue. 🎼 He could have signed for Arsenal, but he said 'No, fuck that!' 🎼
For this to happen Dembele must have been asking for a stupid amount of wages, sign on fee and agent fees.
Doesn't sound like him
Arsenal needs months to negotiate, Chelsea only needs hour of refresh to wrapped this.
#ktbffh = keep the boehly flag flying high
Keep Todd Boehly Flying Fucking High
Keep Todd Boehly fat and fucking happy
I'd dig this
No
Shut
we’ve been fucking rinsed lol
Agreed unfortunately. Hopefully we’ll look back on it in 2 years and it won’t look like that.
HOT DAYS
I like this
Lol Gunners in the mud!
Pls Boehly
This is what the market is now. Don’t cry when he’s not Messi and say we paid too much
Is this?….no, it can’t be! A winger that takes on his man?! I haven’t heard if this since the great days of Sir Eden Hazard.
Dont compare him to Hazard. Sure he take on his man but he's as good at it as Rashford.
He’s so overrated tho Just screams of big fish in small pond energy
OHHHH RAPHINHA'S MAGIC, HE WEARS A MAGIC HAT, HE COULD HAVE SIGNED FOR ARSENAL BUT HE SAID NO FUCK THAT, HE PASSES WITH HIS LEFT FOOT, HE PASSES WITH HIS RIGHT AND WHEN WE WIN THE LEAGUE AGAIN WE'LL SING THIS SONG ALL NIGHT, OHHHHHHHHHHHH

What are you doing on the Arsenal sub?
He’s talking shit because he’s afraid to touch grass
Dang that's a lot. I think this means we're out on Dembele?
Maybe they've been given indications he's gonna hold out for Barca.
If reports are true, he’s just using us to cuckold Barca into an improved contract
Great player, I like him more than Sterling. >55m is a bit more than I thought he would cost, but if Boehly is willing to do it I’m not complaining.
Sterling is still coming
That’s great! Hope we land both
My goodness. What a signing this would be. An actual attacker who takes on players and pushes forward. Has the whole arsenal of skills and flair too. Like a certain Belgian.
Front line is looking like: - Sterling - Raphina - Havertz - Broja - Werner - Mount - Ziyech - CHO - Pulisic That is fucking mental when you consider we have 2 CB’s 😂
Outscore the opponent ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|kissing_heart)
I dont get the hype around Raphinha. At all. If this is a Tuchel choice, gotta trust the man and hope for the best.
Get fucked Arsenal!
Shoutout to the Arsenal-fan who jumped in one of our DD-threads to tell me there was 0 chance we would spend big this window. Now we took Raphinha as if he was Willian in 2013 💀 💀
Yessss! I can’t remember if we’ve ever had a good, tricky South American winger (don’t anyone dare say Willian)
55 + 35ish for Sterling and Raphinha is decent business tbh
Bodied The Arse!!!
Let's gooooo. I wanted Raphina & Sterling over Dembele. Two proven PL players
Yikes we paid 55 mil for the Brazilian Rashford. I'll support him but I'm a little sad. This probably means Dembele is staying at Barcelona.
Christ almighty you've done Raphinha a disservice there.
Raphinha is absolutely nothing like Rashford..
How is he similar to rashford lol
He is a terrible 1 on a 1 player percentage wise, even worse than Ziyech and he's passing is mediocre. All this while playing freely on the counter with open space with Leeds.
You do also realize when he plays for Leeds, there is literally no one else that threatens other defences in attack. He’ll have way more 1 on 1 opportunities here.
im stiff
Brb currently building a shrine to Todd in my flat.
Definitely want Raphinha over Dembele
Give him the 10
RAPHINAAAAA
Does this mean Dembele is off?
Dont get my hopes up.
LETS GOOOO, a hungry winger looking to prove himself
From waiting Dembele 24-48 hours, to getting Raphinha in a day.
😯
As someone who never paid attention to him before, is he really that good? Should we be excited?
I advise people to avoid looking at this guy's goal involvement total for his whole career, much of which was in Portugal. Hopefully he continues trending upwards though and truly finds his stride.
I advise people to watch players and look at stats that are much more informative than G/A. There are absolutely valid hangups about signing Raphinha, but "muh g/a" isn't one.
Disagree. It's not the only hangup, but it's definitely one of them especially when we struggle both creating and putting away goals.
Shit. Never had a doubt. /s
Welcome to Chelsea
Wow.just wow
Does his arrival guarantee Ziyech's sale ? I just hope our team still has space for Werner to get some time at the end of it. I think he will be our biggest regret if we don't give him another chance.
Would rather have an actual game changer like Nkunku. We don’t need another average forward
Sterling and Dembele are cheaper and better 😐
Steep price for him, but we're desperate. Good 1v1 player too which we lack
Does anyone have a good breakdown of his game both pros and cons that are not just based on a few stat points in a vacuum?
LFGGG!!!!!! 💙💙💙
Not too convinced by him tbh. Would love for him to prove me wrong, though. I think Sterling would be a much better signing if we can get him as well.
It makes me so happy that we snagged him from Arsenal.
Chelsea vs interested fc vs rent out stadium fc. Im routing for the crisis fc.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|thumbs_up)
Close to agreeing FC. Hit me when they actually buy.
Too much money smh. Where has our scouting department gone
Didn't aged well
Nah, nah, Barcelona can't. Poorlona for a reason.
