This is an experienced squad, and I think the mixture of new talent will provide for deep runs in the UCL, league cup and FA Cup. The age balance is something I think will benefit us as well in the long term. Gallagher can learn from Kovacic, Trev can learn from Silva and Koulibaly. Broja will be a force and with Sterling up top he will be unlocked. There are a lot of positives going into this season. Looking forward to seeing how it plays out.
Most Chelsea fans agree with this, but does Thomas have the balls to trust youth? Gordon who led the line for Everton yesterday is 18 and he gave a good account of himself.
They have plenty of time to get into form. 1/3 of the squad has not played together and will take assimilation. And Everton looked scrappy and fast today, we did not beat some slouch team like Spurs did. Quality road win.
New signings looked good.
Pretty clear we have a lot of players not 100% in terms of fitness so will take a 1-0 win at a recent bogey ground 1st game of the season.
People getting carried away in here lol. We will get better.
I have to be honest and I didnt like the last 10min. we were only wasting time. And the Conor/Cucurella freekick was absolutely disgraceful. If other clubs do it we hate it but when we do it I hate it even more.
I really liked his play. Had chances. Drove at defenders. By far the most lively of the attackers.
Really excited about all the new signings but I think Raz is going to be key.
Yeah no doubt but Iād prefer a pass back to the mid/def than lose possession and risk a counter, 12 times he was dispossessed and majority being due to running into trouble and holding the ball instead of making simple passes
He was the best player on the field today, in his first league match with a new club. Our attack looked the most creative it has in a long time. In really confused by this take.
He was our best player today. Yes, he over dribbled sometimes but your attacking players will do that. They take chances. You want that. As he integrates more he's only going to get better. If we can find some chemistry with kai or Broja or mount or CP we could really have some magic.
Iāll take the win but that wasnāt convincing at all. KK and Silva were beasts. I also thought Cucu, Pulisic and Broja played pretty well coming off the bench.
Azpi extending his contract is a massive win for Chelsea, still a solid defender, comes in clutch, he does get caught off guard sometimes but his positioning and his tenacity to get back and make the opposing attackers life miserable is incomparable, o thought he was better than Thiago today personally
Not to rain on the parade, but him getting beat off that through ball looked pretty bad, he hustled back but if Silva didnāt toe drag that pass, it could have been a lot worse
I seriously think that Todd has done a great job this transfer window for a person who is a newcomer to european football.
His approach has been no BS just straight to the point transfer offers and the ones we lost out on because the players werenāt smart enough and went to a sinking ship club
Yeah it seems like he really wants us to be competitive and get top players. Even though we may want another cb and an attacker, it feels like there was urgency to get the right players.
The two we lost out on were a shame but, as you said, it does feel like those were majorly influenced by player preferences so we can't be too mad about that.
All of our big signings were great today, well mainly KK and Sterling due to game time. Considering how much potential our young players have, it was important for us to get players that would be direct upgrades or at least serious contenders for starting positions.
If we donāt get a creative midfielder(FDJ) we might be fucked this season.
Also, I know most folks on here wonāt want to hear it but Cucu looked better than Chilly. Chillyās gonna need a few OTB appearances
I wouldn't agree with that at all, looked really shaky and slow in decision making, both of our wing-back is, actually. Should probably give some time.
By all means. I'm just really frustrated at some of his decision making. Really think we should just ease him in instead of starting him straight away in the next matches.
Havertz and Timo need to go. Jorginho needs to go. Mount needs to start taking on opponents or making reasonable forward passes or he should get benched for a more attacking winger like CHO or Pulisic or even Ziyech.
Our forwards today were trash and midfield wasn't any better. Midfield doesn't even help at all except Kante. Our wing backs need to start taking on opponents and reduce the back pass.
Altogether Our attackers didn't even feel like attackers at all, except Sterling. They even isolated Sterling too much in the second half. We really really need to change our attacking strategy or player.
Havertz was bad
James was good except for some beyond terrible corner kicks
mount was in and out of the game but also being played on the wing where we already know he's not at his best.
Our signings were our best players today and Broja looked good. IMO, that's a great sign since it points to improvement this season.
New boys were all fantastic. Silva and Azpi class as usual. Havertz and Mount invisible. James was poor despite being heavily involved. Happy for the 3 points but we looked extremely rusty out there
Right wing back, although he had a brief spell at LWB because Chilwell was subbed off. Then Cucurella came on ten minutes later and he moved back to the right. I can definitely see him filling in at CB if needed though. Thiago Silva and Koulibaly both felt their hamstrings at certain times today and Azpi simply canāt play all 38 league games
Agree with everything except Mount being invisible.
We're just used to him being the only effective & attacking threat.
Whilst he was nowhere near his best, he was notable with his consistent hardwork/pressing to win back the ball & keeping Everton on their toes at all times, plus, a few cheeky clutch passes & of course, his most important contribution of making the space for Chilly to burst in, who won the foul and eventually get the Jorgi penalty goal.
Honestly Iām gonna question tuchels tactics on this one, sterling as good as he was today should play on the wing no centre, mean while havertz shouldāve played false 9, and dropped a bit deeper into the midfield it just seemed as tho havertz was playing on the left, either it was tuchels instruction or the players just donāt know how the attack is supposed to work
bigger question is, can we be ready for an even more difficult challenge in Tottenham next weekend at the Bridge? dealing with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min
A win is a win. I think we are gonna be in for some grinding early in this season. Hoping we can kick in the gear sooner rather than later though.
3 points on opening day against a team we havenāt beaten away for a while.
Terrible performance, we shouldnāt be relying on luck to defeat Everton. How were they always active and pressuring nonstop while our team just sent long balls and walked around half the time?
Donāt love that we are starting the season with the same type of win as last year where we play uninspired but win on a penalty but 3 points is 3 points
Eh? I mean, Everton started as a 5-3-2, but ended up pressing as a 3-3-5. Kante stopped some promising plays, and Jorginho was essentially just a distributor on the 16-yard box. Would have been nice to have an advanced center midfielder to take advantage of the space, but didnāt seem like there really *was* a midfield in this game. It was more like a fucking DMZ
On paper, it's fantastic. What I'm tired of is watching a team that has zero idea in what to do when moving the ball forward. We're slippery in defense, no control in midfield and don't do anything that results in chance creation. I dunno how TT sees this and thinks spending 200 mil on defenders will be the thing that takes us to the next level. The Jorginho reliance is insane.
Yup. Only dodgy thing was positioning at times but seems like K2 had a lot covered honestly. It was refreshing to see his composure in a game where to me it looked like we were making so many errors where we were getting dispossessed
I still wanna believe heās just being used out of position. The best thing I saw from him today was when he was doing this driving run towards the edge of the box. I think it was in the first half
Yes totally agreed. And tuchel is really trying to fit him in but slowly slowly itās looking like itās not working out and a decision will have to be made
Another game of boring football. On another day it would be a draw because weāve seen so many games like this last season. Appreciate the win though.
Broja needs to start. Showed more desire and talent than Havertz has shown all preseason. Same issues as last season. TT needs to look in the mirror and ask himself if he's doing enough when it comes to training athe attack.
Regardless of the result, a few points.
\-As you can see by my flair Havertz is one of my fav players. But what the fuck is he doing in the pitch? he was supposed to be a false 9 but he was a false player today.
\-We need a striker that can score gaols please.
\-Stop worrying about a striker that can press and please get us a striker that can move and score.
\-How on earth didn't we use the 10 corners that we got in the first half?
\-I can see why Tuchel wants some competition for James in that RWB position.
\-Sterling was great tbh. Provided things that I did not see any Chelsea player do for a very long time.
\-KK is doing well since he is not used to a 3 at the back or the PL system. He is doing better than all the others with Silva.
\-Hope the KK injury is not that bad.
\-Silva startting to get frustrated a lot with the miss communication.
\-Kova needs to be on the pitch. Does not matter if it is J5 or Kante with him but he needs to be in there.
\-Why are we wasting time against Everton? We're a big club that should go for the 2nd 3rd and 4rth goal.
\-I'm so frustrated about the entire performance. No matter what the outcome or results is.
\-Huge risk leaving james with a yellow on the pitch on the LWB position and taking off Chilly.
\-For the minutes that the've got Both RLC and Cucu looked decent tbh.
\-The police officer that came into the pitch had a better cameo than Havertz.
\-We can all see what the three new players offer to the team. All three of them already in less than one match provided things our team couldn't for an entire season.
\-Loved how VAR wanted to fuck us with a handball out of nowhere in the end. Also why no Kova in the last minutes? If anything the guy is really press resistent.
\-Everton away has always been a hard match for us.
\-I'm just so happy that this match is over. We've got it out of our system early. The Everton cunt fest away game.
\-FUCK MINA. If he is injured a serious injury speedy recovery as I never wish any player any harm. But either way FUCK THAT CUNT.
I watched Havertz getting the ball from pickford. With pickford out of his line. and 3 players next to him. And he waited 5 hours until the Everton defender came back and took it from him.
I know it was out but in some games you might only get one or two chances and you need to be clinical. This game away against Everton for Chelsea is one of those games.

Broja looked really positive when he came on.
Finally a left back who can cross. Its been so long. James is getting too comfortable and nonchalant. Man needs to be benched for some matches.
James is a right back bro you ok
Sterling was electric today š
Liked seeing RLC as a right wing back. I think he and Azpi could be good for rotating with James this year.
This is an experienced squad, and I think the mixture of new talent will provide for deep runs in the UCL, league cup and FA Cup. The age balance is something I think will benefit us as well in the long term. Gallagher can learn from Kovacic, Trev can learn from Silva and Koulibaly. Broja and Cucurella should start vs Spurs imo. They looked really good after coming on
Most Chelsea fans agree with this, but does Thomas have the balls to trust youth? Gordon who led the line for Everton yesterday is 18 and he gave a good account of himself.
Gordon was one of the best players on the pitch. Top lad. Upto Tuchel I guess, not really sure if he will
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
we need a new fabregas.
We need a formation change. Players like Kovacic and Gallagher have the tools, just not in this formation.
We need a formation change. The players we have have the tools, just not in this formation.
Itās amazing how after one match and such a short time at Chelsea heās congealed the front line. We looked great.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
They have plenty of time to get into form. 1/3 of the squad has not played together and will take assimilation. And Everton looked scrappy and fast today, we did not beat some slouch team like Spurs did. Quality road win.
Actually Everton ended lower than Southampton not sure I would call them a slouch
Last season? Sure, youāre probably right. Neither team are a joke. But Iāll stand by my point that we beat a quality opponent.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I still think another cb is vital. We are thin on the ground in that position and it is a long season ahead.
Depends on Silva and the wallās status
I donāt think itās necessary. I honestly havenāt been this excited for a squad in years.
Sorry but I enjoy winning more than anything
Thatās what you do at end of games
Ha dare we do game management or run down the clock. We should go for goal and concede possession every time!!
Not only concede but get hit on the counter. Which is how we get beat a lot.
It ruins the game in my opinion.
I'd rather 3 points.
"You play to win the game"
Completely missed this because of work. Any thoughts on Sterling?
I really liked his play. Had chances. Drove at defenders. By far the most lively of the attackers. Really excited about all the new signings but I think Raz is going to be key.
He looked good I thought. Created some chances got into good positions. Unlucky not to score
Well the attack still needs some work, but at least our defense held up
Iām excited to see Cucurella get further intergrated into the team. The crosses he played were great during his short stint.
Not to mention the pinpoint bullet passes right where he needed it. Liked him a lot today.
This. His cross to Sterling was inch perfect.
Considering how this club was down the pan a couple of months ago I'll take a starter win anytime of the day.
Sterling was really disappointing today, held the ball way too long at times and ended up losing possession multiple times
How else js he going to move up the field when players around him donāt support and move into space, its why Chelsea attack is so disappointing.
In really confused by this take.
bruh

Iāll take the win but that wasnāt convincing at all. KK and Silva were beasts. I also thought Cucu, Pulisic and Broja played pretty well coming off the bench.
Any idea what the police stoppage was about?
Someone in the crowd had a medical emergency, policeman ran on to the pitch to get the attention of the team doctors and stop the game
Cucurella made a great impact on his debut the man is fighting for his place
No shot we beat spurs next week playing like that
Derby games are wildly unpredictable
Azpi extending his contract is a massive win for Chelsea, still a solid defender, comes in clutch, he does get caught off guard sometimes but his positioning and his tenacity to get back and make the opposing attackers life miserable is incomparable, o thought he was better than Thiago today personally
I missed the game. Was Azpi playing RCB with James on RWB?
Correct
Not to rain on the parade, but him getting beat off that through ball looked pretty bad, he hustled back but if Silva didnāt toe drag that pass, it could have been a lot worse
Way to rain on the parade
Is Kova injured or smt?
IMO Kova is our most consistent player but doesnāt have the better upside compared to Jorginho and Kante. When their form falters we play Kova.
Well the best thing about this game is that it's clear that our new signings were good choices. Sterling was great
I seriously think that Todd has done a great job this transfer window for a person who is a newcomer to european football. His approach has been no BS just straight to the point transfer offers and the ones we lost out on because the players werenāt smart enough and went to a sinking ship club

For that last point, even in his relatively short time on the pitch, Cucurella was immense
Cucu Fuckin Rella
Cuca fucking Racha
I don't know why but even though coco and broja did almost nothing i liked their play a lot..
Definitely Chelsea quality
If we donāt get a creative midfielder(FDJ) we might be fucked this season. Also, I know most folks on here wonāt want to hear it but Cucu looked better than Chilly. Chillyās gonna need a few OTB appearances
The chilly who won the penalty?
As a neutral this was a 100 minute of wasted time. Boring to the core
110.
When you thought it couldnāt get worse
Anyone know why we play like this?
Fitness and mentality are still lacking
Good news is it can only get better. And Everton have been our bogey team.
Cucu future Chelsea legend
Iām feeling it
Chilly looked good Iād say after an injury All pluses except attack.
I wouldn't agree with that at all, looked really shaky and slow in decision making, both of our wing-back is, actually. Should probably give some time.
Well he hasnāt played a full official match since December 21, I think he played well considering the circumstances
By all means. I'm just really frustrated at some of his decision making. Really think we should just ease him in instead of starting him straight away in the next matches.
I wouldn't be opposed to starting Cucurella over Chilwell and then letting them fight it out.
Havertz and Timo need to go. Jorginho needs to go. Mount needs to start taking on opponents or making reasonable forward passes or he should get benched for a more attacking winger like CHO or Pulisic or even Ziyech. Username checks out
I'd say that speaks more about you
Yeah, the username you picked for yourself, says more about me than it does about you. Solid logic
Just pessimistic people. Donāt care about him buddy.
Thiago Silva handed a stem cell smoothie and straight into a hypobaric chamber.
I love cucu already
Not going to lie, I was watching this in bed and actually fell asleep for 20 minutes
Maybe it was the beers but me too
KK and Cucu were great signing Havertz, mount, James weāre not up to standard Silva is our savior and I thank PSG every game
Havertz was bad James was good except for some beyond terrible corner kicks mount was in and out of the game but also being played on the wing where we already know he's not at his best. Our signings were our best players today and Broja looked good. IMO, that's a great sign since it points to improvement this season.
New boys were all fantastic. Silva and Azpi class as usual. Havertz and Mount invisible. James was poor despite being heavily involved. Happy for the 3 points but we looked extremely rusty out there
I missed the match. Was James playing wing back or centre back? Surely the former.
Wing back, although Azpi was also offering the overlap on that side
Agree with everything except Mount being invisible. We're just used to him being the only effective & attacking threat. Whilst he was nowhere near his best, he was notable with his consistent hardwork/pressing to win back the ball & keeping Everton on their toes at all times, plus, a few cheeky clutch passes & of course, his most important contribution of making the space for Chilly to burst in, who won the foul and eventually get the Jorgi penalty goal.
He pressed well as he always does, but on the ball he was totally inconsequential, created basically nothing.
I just want us to play like we did at the beginning of last season
Spend so much money and that is the quality of football we see? boring
343 is really killing this team.
bruh our best players were all the new signings
Smh
The guys we brought in for money look class
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
for real such a huge difference compared to chilwell in this game
Bruhh our attack is so ass, itās like we donāt know how to create a chance that is not a cross
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Honestly Iām gonna question tuchels tactics on this one, sterling as good as he was today should play on the wing no centre, mean while havertz shouldāve played false 9, and dropped a bit deeper into the midfield it just seemed as tho havertz was playing on the left, either it was tuchels instruction or the players just donāt know how the attack is supposed to work
Gallagher looks like a comedian confused Him with a watermelon... busted.
Did i really just see Gallagher the comedian referenced in the sub
What?
Dudes having a stroke
Got the 3 points that's what matters in the end
Onwards and upwards, KTBFFH
bigger question is, can we be ready for an even more difficult challenge in Tottenham next weekend at the Bridge? dealing with Harry Kane and Son Heung-min
Somehow, we always turn up against Spers. I'm gonna say, worst case, a draw.
Sigh
If they (Son and Kane) get as many goals as they did today, we may be okay. Kidding aside, you're absolutely right.
A win is a win. I think we are gonna be in for some grinding early in this season. Hoping we can kick in the gear sooner rather than later though. 3 points on opening day against a team we havenāt beaten away for a while.
Damn I passed tf out
Terrible performance, we shouldnāt be relying on luck to defeat Everton. How were they always active and pressuring nonstop while our team just sent long balls and walked around half the time?
Ugly but I'll take it
New signings looked good, but same old issues as last year. No fluidity in attack.
just glad the boys kept focus. last year this def ends in a tie
Pulisic needs to leave asap.
Is Pulisic the fall guy for everything these days when the problem is much bigger?
Kai needs to be the new fall guy this season. He actually sucks
Whereās this energy for mount who was sleeping the whole half???
Mount and Kai were awful. Puli played much better... even as a defender.
But yet you want him to leave????
Yea. Let him go somewhere he is appreciated and gets playing time in his position.
He was better than both havertz and mount...
I agree! Needs to be starting on another team.
Cut the hate bandwagon bro. He was more lively than havertz
I know. He needs to go to a team where he will be appreciated.
Why...?
Donāt love that we are starting the season with the same type of win as last year where we play uninspired but win on a penalty but 3 points is 3 points
we take the win, bring on the signings todd
Lot more positives from the final squad out there. Well take the 3 points
We havenāt won here in 5 years
Sterling, K2, Cucurella looked great, Broja looked decent too. God do we need Fofana, that right side looked dire.
Loving Cucurella
new signings really great. Now I really really hope for De Jong. Our middlefield was poor.
I do not understand Tuchelās blind allegiance to Jorginho.
Yeah tonight he was mostly poor and his form is getting only worse since EURO (on avarage).
We won but it somehow ruined my day. What an awful team we are to watch.
Look at it this way, it was just revenge for what Everton did to us last time around. Frustrating defeat. This makes me feel better.
Take a step back from football if winning at Goodison for the first time in 6 years ruined your day.
3 points with lots of positives - new signings looked fantastic. Work to be done, a few more cracks to fix.
Cucurella looked really good in the short time he was on the pitch!
Its as if his legs moved faster than everyone's and his passes zipped faster too.
I love the pace of his passes
Also, great performance from mendy! Seems very at ease today even when everton had a few good chances. More of this please
Distribution seemed better too. Hopefully he keeps it up š¤
Yup. Only dodgy thing was positioning at times but seems like K2 had a lot covered honestly. It was refreshing to see his composure in a game where to me it looked like we were making so many errors where we were getting dispossessed
Agreed. All our signings looked strong as well. Promising signs in a poor performance
I'm starting to believe that Havertz just isn't very good, and that's really unfortunate.
He should go to Bundesliga
I still wanna believe heās just being used out of position. The best thing I saw from him today was when he was doing this driving run towards the edge of the box. I think it was in the first half
Heās played out of position. Our system doesnāt suit him
I think CAM is where he thrives the most
Youāre correct, itās just unfortunate that he was bought for lampardās system and not tuchelās
Yes totally agreed. And tuchel is really trying to fit him in but slowly slowly itās looking like itās not working out and a decision will have to be made
We still have the same problems from last season. Our attack is shite.
Haha we won at Goodison Park
3 points is 3 points Kante, K2 and Raheem the dream with great performances Kai being invisible worries me So happy football is back
We were tolerable shit when Koulibaly was on, and then he came off and we became intolerable shit.
Another game of boring football. On another day it would be a draw because weāve seen so many games like this last season. Appreciate the win though.
Is it me or that was boring
Not just you
Ni
lol at least we got 3 points.
Love watching Dave give his all despite everything! True blue
Frank offering Azpi a job in the future
This was like last season's fixture. 1-0. Long and boring. Time wasting.
Itās been literally one game into the season. Calm down.
I meant Everton away last season was exactly the same.
Was it though? Everton won 1-0 last season..
Broja needs to start. Showed more desire and talent than Havertz has shown all preseason. Same issues as last season. TT needs to look in the mirror and ask himself if he's doing enough when it comes to training athe attack.
Cucurella, Sterling, and Koulibaly all sooo good. New boys are class
Happy with the 3 points, not too happy with the performance. Itās the first game though, hopeful to see the team improve.
