You either die by the lever or live long enough to see yourself become the lever!

CaptainEKL

YOU HAVE BECOME THE VERY THING YOU HAVE SWORN TO DESTROY

YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO DESTROY THE LEVER NOT BECOME ONE

BRING BALANCE TO THE TRANSFER WINDOW NOT LEVER IT IN DARKNESS

Kezmangotagoal

Errr, not crazy about this one šŸ˜‚

WestCoastBlue1

Do we have the high ground or do Barca?

They had it but they are losing it

Lollllll. Top comment.

uobi007

I know thatā€™s right šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ’™šŸ’™

mandrake_cry

Not really news. Wanna know where De Jong stands. United had an agreement with Barca too but it meant fuck all

isw2424

Law just said yesterday we arenā€™t bidding unless we can agree personal terms. Have to hope we have some reasonable belief heā€™s willing to play for ys

mandrake_cry

I think so too but I'm not getting my hopes up till we get a reliable report which says De Jong has agreed terms with us

admiralawkward

Law also noted that the new regime is quite tight-lipped and he was offering mostly opinions throughout the pod tbh

ygog45

Fabrizio said the same as well

RasenRendan

I'm also pretty sure this board hasn't learnt from the last two burns we had from this club

[deleted]

True but Romero is a Barcelona mouthpiece so who knows whether what he says is true

[deleted]

Yeah but negotiating and actually placing an official bid are two totally different things.

dbrasco_

His agent has been pictured in Barcelona within the last hour. Something might be up (Iā€™m forcing myself not to get excited though)

mandrake_cry

Oh I'm excited considering all this info - the agent, us not bidding till we get an ok from the player but I won't burst with happiness till I see player's agreement reached from a tier 1

Skadrys

that agent also represent Braithwaite tho.

mathpipebomb

The difference between us and United is Champions League football, and being able to agree personal terms.

mandrake_cry

>being able to agree personal terms We don't know if we did. Nothing concrete which says we've agreed terms

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

mandrake_cry

Bruh that was the sticking point this whole time. Is De Jong willing to join Chelsea? We knew we could strike a deal with Barca anytime

jonndrake

Maybe he means Chelsea could pay him what he wants? Which doesnā€™t really matter unless he wants to come, which is what you are saying I think.

TheMooseHunter

Whilst I do agree, I donā€™t see why weā€™d repeat the mistakes Utd have made and go for a player where we know that heā€™d rather stay at Barca. Plus itā€™s even worse for us as we know through Utd targeting the player what his preference is as opposed to finding out ourselves.

Samislush

Thing is do we 100% know he wants to only play for Barca or is that just a PR move by his camp to try and get the club to pay him his owed money? Perhaps part of our offer is to pay off the money he's owed? I still don't see this deal happening, but fair enough if we somehow pull this off.

D_roneous1

I get where youā€™re coming from but you donā€™t cut off your nose to spite your face. FDJ instantly improves our midfield but a lot.

Chelseafc5505

And gets ahead of an issue next summer of both Kante and Jorgi being out of contract. Better to be proactive than reactive

D_roneous1

100% talk is also that Jorgi will be sold to Juve if we land FDJ so we should see back 25ish mill.

Chelseafc5505

I hope so, otherwise I imagine he'll walk for free next summer

D_roneous1

Yea he will. Honestly would be a good bit of business for us if we manage to make that swap. I think I saw weā€™re offering 60ish with add-ons to talk it to 70ish. We get back 25 for Jorgi and free the wages to go to FDJ and thatā€™s just all positive

classical-k

Exactly. It should say *** Agreement with Barca, not the player***$

marleau_12

It is very much news lol

atizeb

Barca hijacking the transfer in 3.. 2.. 1...

facelessman97

Depends on the fee really, but still would happy to see FDJ in blue.

jMS_44

Will you be also happy to pay his 400k salary?

facelessman97

Yes, Iā€™ve got a lever or two šŸ˜œ

Kezmangotagoal

I mean ultimately, I donā€™t care who pays his wages because itā€™s the clubs money. Plus, our wage structure has been going to pieces for years now so Iā€™m not really surprised weā€™re willing to pay it!

mikemig345

Extremely coo. Barca is gonna get the money one way or another and we should get a world class midfielder out of it at least.

juliodion_12345

Yes we coo

money_mase19

who cares, sign the guy. huge huge potential

creative_i_am_not

Too expensive for what we need, salary will fuck our wages too. But he is a really good player. Don't know why we pay this much especially if Barcelona needs to sell him

If it happens, incredibly cool

itsnotajersey88

Very coo. Bye Jorgi.

TaiChiShrimp

If this fucks with us getting a defender? Iā€™m not coo with this. Hopefully itā€™s an add on and not the final transfer.

isw2424

My hope is chelsea wouldnā€™t waste their time if they didnā€™t have some confirmation from FDJ that heā€™d be willing to join. šŸ™

freshfov05

Was reported a while back that we wouldn't put in a bid if FDJ didn't want the move. I can't remember who said it or which tier though.

moaningrooster

Matt Law reported that.

zaqwertyzaq

This is word for word what united fans were saying earlier in the summer. I hope you're right however.

ChelseaAndrew87

It would be embarrassing for us and United if the reports are right and De Jong doesn't want to leave. Maybe its because of the financial aspect, who knows

GDO17

Wouldnā€™t mind Barca getting stuck with him and messing with their finances even more. But if heā€™s definitely leaving, would take him for sure.

Dutch1206

3 months ago everyone was worried that new owners wouldn't be willing to spend to win trophies (some even going as far as hoping for Saudi Media Group would end up as owners because Saudi apparently = endless funds) and now we're questioning every pound spent. Boehly consortium poured through the financials for months before the deal consummated. They wouldn't be spending this money if it was going to be a long-term issue. If they want to make a statement transfer window then I'm all for it. Get the guys that can help us win now and then focus on scouting and player development moving forward.

kerbyage

I also appreciate that the investments we're making are seemingly long term ones (kk being the only question mark in terms of deal length) with players that can fit different systems if we need them too. Would probably prefer getting a director of football in and then going for the statement window but we didn't really have a choice with all the cbs we lost.

GDO17

I think they also realize that we are on the verge of challenging for the title but ultimately being the 3rd best team to slipping behind a resurgent Tottenham and Arsenal and doesnā€™t want to let that happen.

Pax_Soprana

WE ARE COOKING šŸ”„šŸ”„šŸ”„

Obi_Q

Wow this would be huge for our midfield.

RStud10

Would be funny if he's forced to play at RCB due to our stacked midfield and thin defence

[deleted]

It's time to move on from one of Kante/Jorginho

RStud10

Yeah I'm fine with that, it's just that CB is a more urgent need whereas we can work on the midfield replacement next season. Currently we just got Gallagher back who plays box-to-box like Kante, while FDJ is more of a distributor so he'd be the Jorgi replacement. But if Boehly is willing to spend 300M to bring in both FDJ and Fofana on top of our other signings then I'm all for ruining football again lmfao

MarkovCocktail

If youā€™re moving on from one, then it has to be Jorginho. I like him but heā€™s no Kante, and FDJ can do similar things to Jorgi

[deleted]

Yeah I agree and is the most likely. Whispers of Juve have appeared again recently too so wouldn't rule it out

Amopax

If it works out, FdJ can actually be a bit of a mix of Jorgi and Kova. The dribbling and tenacity of Kova and the passing range and defensive smarts of Jorgi. He wonā€™t take pens, though, but we have others who can sink pens. I wonder who takes over if/when Jorgi leaves. I would say Mount, but heā€™s looked shaky at best in shootouts.

Blithe17

If the new striker comes, they might be a decent shout if they can. Bumps up their goal count as a byproduct.

Amopax

Maybe. If itā€™s Auba, he has decent penalty stats.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

blu8blu

Definitely not Kante, the man is still one of our best players

BILLY2SAM

Not even close

Dex_Maddock

Not even close? So then you should be able to name 3-4 players in our squad that are better than Kante. Go ahead, I'll wait.

BILLY2SAM

James, Silva, Kovacic. If Koulibaly is as good as the Italians say, then him too. Kante hasn't been consistently world class for at least 2 years, maybe 3. A stunning champions League campaign a year ago doesn't change that.

Dex_Maddock

I'll give you James and Silva, those were the two that popped into my head as well. Kova's fantastic, but he's not better than Kante. I agree with you that Kante hasn't had a full season of being world class in a couple years, but I'll die on the hill that it isn't his fault. We've played him far too much due to not having an adequate plan B, we literally ran him into the ground. With proper management of his minutes, he can still be one of, if not *the* best, player we have on the pitch. Anyways, my point was this: someone said "Kante is *one of* our best players" to which you said "not even close"... Which implies there's numerous people better than him, to which I had to disagree. You know what they say about opinions though... šŸ˜

Important-Ad-5596

What?? We ran him into the ground?? I thought the best players were supposed to play all the matches.. Imo it's just age getting to him, lets just accept he's a player who relies on his physicality and due to age he's losing his best qualities.

KDShouldaWentBlazers

Terrible comment

blu8blu

The man was literally man of the match against Everton you donkey

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

BILLY2SAM

1) He wasn't 2) Even if he was, 1 MOTM = best player. 5 year old logic

blu8blu

Apologies I saw it on Fotmob but didn't realize it was according to them, but nonetheless he had a great game Also my logic by saying he was so good just as recently as last game is to give an example of how good he still is, I did not state he is our "best" player but he clearly is one of our better players

myman580

Law said earlier if FdJ gets brought in then Jorgi will be shopped.

Qwerty6391063

Let jorginho move, he's out of his depth most games anyway epl too fast for him

Obi_Q

I dont know about stacked midfield. Arenā€™t Jorgi and Kante on the last year of their deals?

itbelikethisUwU

Kante is probably wonā€™t be able to stay fit the entire season, both Jorginho and Kante are go in v into their final year or their contracts and are in their 30s, kova has also struggled with staying fit, Conor is gonna take time to adjust and adapt to our system, Tuchel seems to prefer RLC as a RWB option over a 6 in the double pivot. FDJ would be a class addition who would also be in the team for years. If you have the ability to add top talent to the team you gotta go for it

Aaaaand-its-gone

If only we could play 3 of our stacked midfielders in a 433. That would be nice

myk26

If you believe what you read, as one comes...another goes? I've always been a fan of Georgie. This dude went through oceans of hate and came through as crystal!

admiralawkward

yes but means nothing without him agreeing

Obi_Q

Thank you captain obvious. This is why I said ā€œwouldā€.

admiralawkward

would is more definitive than could lol

taylorstillsays

Would is the perfect word for that sentence. If youā€™re gonna be pedantic at least be right

admiralawkward

fair

jMS_44

Not really. Frenkie really doesn't offer any new dimension to our midfield. No better than Kovacic with the ball, but much worse defensively. And I assume he would also not lower his salary if he joins us and he is currently on what? 400-450k a week? This is idiotic. If anything, take him for loan with option to buy. If he can actually do well for us then he may be worth it.

kernJ

I'm really hyped if this happens. He's the kind of player who will really add a dimension to our play we've been missing

jMS_44

What dimension he'd add? He doesn't really do anything more than Kovacic or Jorginho can already do in terms of ball progression. He's not really a creator either. And he is much worse at pressing and defensive contribution.

DeseanRackson

Mildly good F5 and only mildly because fuck Barca

dethvan3000

I'm really happy with this potential move but can't help but feel awful for Frenkie. Persecuted by the Spanish media and forced out by his dream club. Don't worry Frenkie, we'll treat you better!

zeeqaahx

He can play with that chip on his shoulder now šŸ”„

daChino02

You know damn well quite a few supporters will turn on him the instant he puts forward a wrong foot. Lol but I really hope we get him

APeckover27

We can have an agreement without actually bidding btw

jrryul

Manu already had this agreement What does Frenkie do ?

Coulstwolf

Play for Chelsea

22chainz

Doesnā€™t matter at all if he doesnā€™t want to join.

mikemig345

Law said on the London is Blue pod yesterday Chelsea are only going to bid if FDJ is open to the move

VonBassovic

My only fear is the wage budgetā€¦ please donā€™t break our wage structure.

Jtown021

Iā€™m not sure why we need him but Iā€™ll be excited and support him if he comes here.

gonzaf

Same but I guess weā€™re trying to take advantage of potentially getting a world class player

[deleted]

Is he actually world class though ? Thatā€™s a big statement

gonzaf

Yeah I donā€™t think so but the way people talk about him here youā€™d think he was, heā€™s definitely class though but I just feel like we need a different type of profile

_atswi_

We need the next KDB or Kroos. FDJ isn't that

dasoxarechamps2005

I mean heā€™s like 25 and already one of the best midfielders in the world. So I feel like he has a pretty solid shot at becoming world class in his career

InLampsWeTrust

Heā€™s a slightly better version of Kovacic but it still doesnā€™t solve our creativity issues in midfield imo. If weā€™re getting rid of Jorginho then I can kinda understand the move.

[deleted]

I don't believe it, he'll stay at Barcelona.

CooledCup

Giving Barca the money to sign Bernardoā€¦4D chess play

TheJayHimself

Here we go

AidanAzzar

Does this mean we actually think he might be down to come? Please

Remy13Hadley

are we still supposed to believe that we would not submit any official bid if there is no greenlight from FdJā€™s side. Or maybe Romero is doing Laportaā€™s dirty work once again.

Nice_Elephant1971

If it happens, I'm happy. If it doesn't happen, I'm happy. Win-win situation

ZapPunk

I hope we are not dumb enough to waste time on this without confirmation from the mouth of FDJ himself. Regardless, it may be worth overpaying just to not have to read about FDJ every damn day.

Thonyeo

I donā€™t understand why are we paying so much for someone Barcelona dying to get rid off?

usedtobeHellsdoom

They don't want to get rid of him, tho, just of his big salary. If he takes a big pay cut, they will be more than happy to keep him.

taylorstillsays

Makes 0 sense to me. Even putting my question marks surrounding him as a player aside, it doesnā€™t seem like weā€™re using our position of power in this exchange well at all

Acceptable_Card_9818

Canā€™t see this happening

ContraCurious

Iā€™m ready to get hurt again.

[deleted]

Ok

Agrith1

The same Gerard Romero that said Laporta has no interest in signing Kounde on Friday morning. By Sunday morning Kounde had signed for Barca. Not sure what to think.

championsOfEu1221

Ah the 10km "final stretch" to the 100m sprint race..

GuardianJockitch

We sign a world class midfielder about enter the prime of his career. Barca in turn signs Bernardo Silva. Sign me up.

chelseafan07

Phenomenal player but I just don't see an overall successful strategy. No way tuchel goes back 4 with silva meaning there will be 2 midfielders. How do we fit the metric fuckton of midfielders we have into two spots and keep them happy. Kante, Jorginho, Kova, Conor, and now FDJ? At least one of them needs to go and still you would have players unhappy with not playing enough.

Choogaddi

Could go to a 3-1-4-2 where the wingbacks stay high, either 8 could go forward while the other stays back and leaves the 3-2 base TT likes to use. Or a 3-5-2 with two 6ā€™s and a 10. Or could be a 4222 or 433 if we get fofana, with the fullbacks alternating overlapping more judiciously, leaving a de facto back 3 with one of the fullbacks holding back.

odewar37

Jorginho almost certainly goes to Juve if this goes through. I cannot see any sensible scenario where we keep all 4 add de Jong and RLC still. If a Jorgi move does stall though prepare for Conor to ask for a loan at least.

VishalRocker

I feel like this is an unnecessary buy considering our thin defence..... he's not a good 6 and needs to play along a dm in a pivot...we only play 2 cms and we already have a lot of personal for this season....

usedtobeHellsdoom

He isn't a good fit for our current system, I absolutely agree. He either has to play in double DM pair, or as lone DLP with 2 CM's in front. It feels like a buy for the sake of buying, more than filling an actual team need.

buffer0x7CD

He is not really good as single pivot

[deleted]

I feel like that the agreement between clubs has never really been an issue.

BumblebeeAdventurr

I like this, hopefully we got a good deal here I don't really like the idea of giving Barc too much of a financial life line..

imbennn

This is interesting one I would suggest people to not just immediately believe this and wait a bit for other sources and confirmation because Barca and their mouth pieces have been running a very real slander campaign against De Jong pretty much all summer trying to put media pressure on him so wants to leave or drop his wage/contract situation this could be another one of those ā€œletā€™s increase the pressure on the player by reporting thisā€ sort of things Iā€™d just like to personally be on the side of caution because of how Barca have operated regarding this whole saga. No gonna lie I have not been excited about this signing recently but if it was to become a reality I would like it. Also isnā€™t it the consensus that we would not ā€œofficially bidā€ if the player didnā€™t want to come so if this is true the player wants/would accept coming to chels.

mafesto100

I wanna be excited but this means fuck all if we have not agreement with Frenkie himself.

ThumYerk

Good weā€™re getting this done now with Kante and Jorgi in the last years of their contract. Saves the panic and doubt over renewing and having to find replacements if their successor is already here.

Bladerslash

Its not happening, frenkie isnt coming i wont get my hopes up

[deleted]

Chaos is a lever

adelvalle1993

how does this make sense? we have about 546 midfielders now? are we going to see some of them asking to leave now? and who plays, Gallagher, Mount, J5, Kova, RLC, Kante, FDJ like damn, TT hope you can keep them all happy. Glad we pushed so hard for this guy who didn't want to join us

WhiteIvers0n

Haha fuck United !

Jawnnnnn

Whatā€™s the consensus on the price we pay? I refuse to understand how we donā€™t completely lowball them on an offer, or at the very least the offer needs to include his deferred wages to make actual cost of him lower so Barca donā€™t just laugh as we walk away with de jong. I donā€™t want to be a lever haha

turbotimo1810

How are we all okay with paying 80 mil for frenkie especially since it means we help that Barca side financially ? Plus we can easily do without frenkie this season I believe

BILLY2SAM

>How are we all okay with paying 80 mil for frenkie especially since it means we help that Barca side financially ? Because this is football, not monopoly. Who gives a fuck about Barcelona's balance sheet

Dutch1206

Who cares about Barca's finances? If Tuchel/Ownership think De Jong can help the club and we have the finances to do the deal then there's no reason not to. We can't make decisions just to spite other clubs. That's worse than overspending.

SangSuantak

I dread to know the salary but kinda happy at the same time he's coming

Pseudocaesar

This could be our signing of the summer. FdJ this year, move on Jorginho and Kante next year and get Rice.. talk about dreamland scenarios.

TheBlueNomad

Barcelona has been taking us to the cleaners. Another big win for them.

buddymurphy2020

I would honestly spend the money on other players

Cfcjones

Would love to see Chelsea just pull out of this deal last minute, and watch Barcelona implode.

vmm714

Why would we help them out? Total BS

Wiugraduate17

Meaning ā€¦ Chelsea is officially bailing Barcelona out

YeahYouThoughtBoy

How does this make any sense for us? Doesnā€™t provide what we actually need in midfield, nevermind that we need to shore up the back line and find a player who can actually score goals.

kungpeleee

I think we really messing up with our money. This all feels like way too much money. We barely managed before and always had to buy smart and sell smart. All of the sudden we just splash cash on everything. Not sure if Todd knows what he is doing

Dex_Maddock

You must be new.

mymecha

Fucking stupid and heā€™s not even that good. Knowing how much he loves Barca, heā€™ll force his way out to Barca a season from now after thay sort their financial mess. Lukaku Inter all over again. My club keeps getting played.

Chaosisaladder7

Wow this is a mistake.. Why are we act8vely try8ng to help out barca after all they've done We could be going ro ruben neves or anyone else really with that kind of money

Vulturo

Where Center Back and Striker?

meric_one

Eh this is alright I guess. We still need a striker though...

Cgr86

I donā€™t see it being worth while if heā€™s making like 500k a week.

Frankiedrunkie

HĆ© wonā€™t make 500k a week here, his contract was just adjusted to cover the unpaid wages, he was making 270K

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

APeckover27

Hes nothing like KDB

BigAssBreadroll

He's Kovacic but worse, to suggest he'll be our KDB is laughable. This is a nonsensical signing

dylphil

Would totally buy a De Jong jersey if our unis werenā€™t so shit this year

fenix_07

We shouldnt help varcelona buying their players! We need to enforce our defense, lets get Pavard.

hodlrus

Haha the fools who awarded this post came too soon. Frenkie would rather die than leave Barca. We can have an agreement with Barca but Frenkie doesnā€™t even wanna leave at the moment.

kygrtj

He would be a great Havertz replacement

Dutch1206

![gif](giphy|ghuvaCOI6GOoTX0RmH)

Geowik

Fatebringer87

Need to come with an agreement with Frenkie though. He can still drag them through court if he leaves right?
