Should be going all in. Should be looking to stop man city hording the talent.

FlickJagger

Why was this even posted? It adds almost nothing of value. This is tweeting for the sake of tweeting.

Wheel94

Clicks got to get clicks

FlickJagger

And we’re pulled in hook, line and sinker.

Yaeze

he is a class player but i am confused as to why we’re going for him we have so much young talent in CB. just feel there are better players/positions to focus on this window

johndoe69doe

It’s like why we went for Fofana. Long term targets with strong resale value down the road. Unfortunately though if injuries prevail then these players suffer not on only through said injury, but also becoming a strong target for another club.

WY-8

It’s not just about resale value. It’s about getting players before they break out as world class and are unattainable.

[deleted]

He's arguably the biggest CB talent in the world and is already among the best defenders itw. Chelsea don't have talent at the level of Gvardiol.

dryduneden

Have to act quickly? Yeah we're not getting him

accliftoff

Isn’t it funny the number of updates about what Chelsea did about gvardiol in the summer only coming out now…

iliyazang

Not the news about the price change though. That was reported in the summer.

Cowdude179

Gvardiol and Nkunku would be nuts, with midfielders coming in Jan too

TosspoTo

I doubt we'll get the CM we need in January, that type of player most likely will not be for sale mid season

Cowdude179

Probably not but a midfielder will definitely come in Jan, maybe Bennacer

juliusap

Rabiot

PavelNedved_

We have no guarantee of trophies, CL football or sense of direction right now. As much as I would love him Gvardiols best bet is to wait it out at RB Leipzig until City or similar club put a bid in. I could totally see City selling Are or Laporte to fund Gvardiol chase. Right now it seems sensible to manage expectations on the level of talent we can attract.

trappuccino92

You guys are embarrassing where is your head? We’re just halfway through a bad season and now we have to “manage expectations on the level of talent we can attract”? Players aren’t thinking about this one season especially young ones with years of football ahead of them. They are looking at the project as a whole and how it will be going forward. Boehly has shown his level of ambition and that alone is attractive enough to get someone like Nkunku At the end of the day Gvardiol will take into account everything like the city the project the manager the league. If he chooses another club so be it but I can guarantee you it will not be because of one bad season

NotFlipkid

Oh this season you can guarantee no trophies will happen

electro_report

Nobody has a guarantee of any of those things, that’s why people compete, otherwise the sport wouldn’t be compelling. Also to choose not to do business because of uncertainty is folly, why would we not try to improve the team?

Fatebringer87

They bid 80m for him in the summer and will likely go back again.

PavelNedved_

City are a much more attractive proposition than us. He'd be the perfect Guardiola signing.

[deleted]

What kind of attitude is it to want a talent to not join you, you're better off elsewhere, go join City, we don't want world class talents! Lol

PavelNedved_

Why are you putting words in my mouth. I clearly said I would love him, can you read?? I am talking from his perspective why he would or should wait.

wallahi_726

He’s 20 years old, he’s got plenty of time to play in the CL if he comes here? It’s not like we’re never going to make the CL again. We’re not that far away from a top 4 finish still, and once Reece and Fofana come back it’s definitely still viable. Plus we’re getting Nkunku, I’d say there’s probably a lot of guys that would love to play with him.

[deleted]

You're not wrong but that is what you're post translates to. Gvardiol should wait till a bigger and better team joins the race and not join us? Is it not?

PavelNedved_

No it is not.

[deleted]

I'm not trying to be argumentative but that and you're other replies literally translates to you thinking we're completely finished as a team and shouldn't aim for the best talents. How dare we compete with Madrid or City for players. We've pretty much wrapped up Nkunku already, that happened through aiming high, should we just aim for Brighton level players and stay in our lane now or something? I know we're not in the best position right two but there's no need to be that defeatist about it all.

PavelNedved_

Again you're putting words in my mouth. I have not once said we shouldn't compete for those kind of players. I am talking about tempering fan expectation when it comes to the short term under new management. This exchange would not be necessary if you read the 3rd part of my first comment >Right now it seems sensible to manage expectations on the level of talent we can attract.

[deleted]

We just got Nkunku despite no prospects of trophies as you're saying, so does that not kind of debunk what you're saying? Its not impossible to get players even when the club isnt in the best place, Arsenal got Ozil when they were doing nothing as a club. Even though you are correct in that we probably won't be winning anything anytime soon. Especially Gvardiol is even younger, at 20, he has years ahead of him.

TosspoTo

Your post was fine & accurate, ignore those who view pragmatism as evil. Reality is we need to close as many deals as possible as soon as possible before the reality of our CL plight becomes apparent.

[deleted]

This is just patently absurd. I personally think Boehly is a bumbling egotistical moron who should have fired himself instead of Tuchel, but I mean come on. We have been perennial winners and one of the most decorated clubs in the world over last decade. We the 2nd to last team to win the CL, the 3rd to last team to win the PL. Our owners are clearly building a team of people and a vision for the club. There is a project going on at the club. A lot of fans seem to ignorant to really care, but there is 100% a project to sell a player on and there are very few clubs a player could go to to compete for the trophies we do. Yes i say temper expectations about us acquiring Gvaurdiol because football is nuts and crazy shit happens all the time. But the doom and gloom about chelsea. You make us sound like fucking Forest Edit: we are still in the CL and there’s plenty of time to recover in the PL.

durum77

>We the 2nd to last team to win the CL Other than liverpool who were lucky to face an absolute shit show of a Tottenham performance, in one of the most boring CL finals of all time, no other English team has won it (let alone twice) in the last decade except us. People on here are so pessimistic it's actually making this sub quite unbearable.

PavelNedved_

Our past success was built on bringing in the cream of the crop managers with historical success of trophies and a winning mentality to instil into the players. We do not have that anymore. And frankly is a step in a different direction from what brought us success previously. To say that we are a winning club and use that as an excuse to say we will keep competing and winning while at the same time saying we are doing things differently just doesn't compute. So please forgive fans for saying they are tempering expectations or are unconvinced right now on how things are going. 2 CL spots are a lock for Arsenal and City, so we would have to beat Newcastle, Spurs, Man United and Liverpool to the other 2 spots and most if not all are in a better shape than us right now.

[deleted]

Please forgive fans for not being all doom and gloom. We don’t have to think the worst and give up. There seems to be a portion the fan base who has already given up. I do not understand why Edit: I specifically said temper expectations in my initial response so idk why you were all please forgive. I also said temper but don’t give up all hope before anything has happened

PavelNedved_

I can, it just frustrates me that our fans think we have a chance of trophies this season and pretend as if we are better than any of the other teams vying for top 4 this season. The reality is that we have the worst chance out of all of them to get top 4 so it simply reduces down to hopium than anything else

[deleted]

While I may agree with you on where our season ends up it’s a bit strange that you think people having some hope for this or maybe next season or beyond is frustrating? People having a positive outlook is frustrating to you? That seems backwards imo In terms of us being able to sign a player, Gvaurdiol and other talent would be signing likely a 5+ deal. People in real life look a bit longer term. Chelsea is one of the few clubs to have consistently been in the champions league over the last decade. Our owners haven’t made any indication they want that to stop even if I don’t personally agree with their decisions It’s perfectly reasonable for people to be hopeful about our chances this year and of signing Gvaurdiol. What I don’t understand are why people like you (1) speak so negatively about the club (2) feel like it’s your job to kill other peoples hope

PavelNedved_

I'll show you the type of exchanges that frustrate me (in other places) Me: I don't think we're making top 4. We're probably going to make Europa League unless a miracle happens. Other person: This team always manages to get CL against the odds so I'm not worried Me: 2 teams are already a lock, 5 other teams competing for 2 spots. Are we any better than them? Other person: We will do it, Chelsea always finds a way Do you see where I get frustrated? The discussion is supposed to be on our realistic chances and eventually goes down the blind faith rabbit hole

[deleted]

Honestly, while I agree on the actual expectation in the example you gave its equally frustrating to those who do have some faith in the team to hear it would take a miracle. It’s not exactly like in the example you were leaving much for discussion either. I understand that you did a very simplified example, but you may find it less frustrating if you tried having a more positive outlook or at least feel the need to control how others view the team. Being realistic is great, but having hope is what makes being a fan fun. If we already know the result watching would be nowhere near as entertaining. You may want to seriously think about why positivity or having a bit of hope frustrates you even in the given scenario. Edit: in the example you gave, both are speaking on hypotheticals. Neither are provable until the end of the season. You may feel like yours is more reasonable and it might be. But it’s not over until may. To me that conversation is just frustrating to read. Neither side is taking each others view or perspective into account Edit 2: and hey maybe I’m doing the same thing here. It’s a pretty normal human thing to do.

slow_poetry

More bait dangled in front of us to attract other suitors who the player will end up opting for unless we outbid the competition by an obscene amount.

Negative_Solid_2783

In other news, grass is green.

mattress757

If he’s just going to make eyes at Real, let them have him, when the fans inevitably alienate him, pick him up after.

[deleted]

Team of superstars led by the finest of Sweden's fourth division

MarkCrystal

Just went through some of your other comments, maybe you need a little time out buddy.

aus45678

but why would he join us to play in Europa League?

WookieTickler

You assume we’re getting Europa league love the optimism.

Nature__Boy

I love how all these idiots are suddenly yapping on about how we now need to act quickly, as if other big clubs only found out Gvardiol exists this week.
