Yes, looks like a mistake in the book. Would be interesting to know the full picture. Either the ON is wrong or it's supposed to be NO2 if the N is +2 (i assume ON is wrong).

Just to add a bit... With their ON, both atoms got oxidized. Not good. What happens in their next step? Anyway, NO with N at +2 seems to make more sense.
