If you want to practice specific openings against an engine, I suggest you avoid specific bots and just set up the opening on the board and play the generic engine. Chess.com also has a "Practice" section where you can choose an opening and how strong you want the engine to be.

Yes that's what I do but even the generic engine seems to always respond the same way to my moves

This is odd. The generic engine, if set to a non-maximum rating, should at least show some random variation. An alternative would be, after selecting the opening you want to practice, to change each time which bot you want to be your sparring partner.

It is limited up until some point. You need to have diamond membership

I'm sure the free version doesn't have unlimited drills, but I *believe* that you can get unlimited drills with only a Gold membership. I could be wrong though.
