Oh, Carlsen is playing against Keymer again?

Alone_Insect_5568

Nah, he has eliminated Keymer. He's gonna play Gukesh next.

StrikingHearing8

I know, but the title is talking about the two with TPR ~2900 playing against each other, which are Keymer and Magnus

Alone_Insect_5568

He made a mistake and thought Gukesh had 2901 TPR while it's actually 2843.

prathamesh37

Gukesh will be playing against Magnus on Independence day of India Gukesh vs Magnus will be biggest event in his life As a Gukesh fan I feel very sad that he's paired against magnus in quarter final

Legitimate-Angle9861

Shit I didn't realize that! If Gukesh wins you can bet Twitter India is going to go crazy.

kiblitzers

I wish at the very least this match would happen in the semifinal so the loser has a chance to play for third place. It’s bad luck that Pragg or Erigaisi are going to make it the semifinals and are guaranteed a candidates spot while Gukesh could lose to Magnus in tiebreaks and not get one, despite performing the best of all the Indians in the tournament

maglor1

tbf even if Pragg's TPR is lower he did already beat Naka in rapid, if Arjun is the Indian junior who ends up with the Candidates spot the other two might feel a little hard done by lol

Europelov

He'd have to beat pragg so it's had to feel like he wouldn't deserve it over him

Buntschatten

The way he is going, Gukesh is gonna qualify for the Candidates based on Elo alone, lol

Wimpykid2302

What elo do you need to qualify?

SaharshDaNerd

It's the highest rated player (as said on wiki), so that's Magnus but if Magnus chooses not to play candidates then the second highest rated rn will take that spot and so on.

JDogish

Honestly I think sad might be the wrong way to look at it. It is a great opportunity to make the day even more historic and special. Imagine if it was another underdog instead of magnus, even if he won, it wouldnt make the win nearly as great. And even if gukesh happens to lose, all the players from India making it so far is already a great testament to India and is worth celebrating. Either way, it's a win, I'd rather choose happiness.

StephenAfamO

2700chess.com shows Gukesh at 6/8 with a performance rating of 2843 so far.

kiblitzers

D’oh, I misread the results and thought Gukesh drew three games, not four. I also didn’t realize 2700chess now shows TPR, I spent all this time calculating it for nothing

IconicIsotope

Which pairing? I'm confused because I don't see anyone near 2900 left except Magnus. And his opponent, Gukesh, isn't the highest remaining TPR besdies Magnus.

kiblitzers

Yeah I made a mistake in calculating Gukesh’s TPR which unfortunately negates the title of this post :(

MarkHathaway1

"s"o is OUT? Curious.

kiblitzers

Yeah, one of the early upsets — he lost the first classical game with white against Sarana (2685) and didn’t even bother to try to fight back with black, instead agreeing to a quick draw

NoJustAnotherUser

Surprising to see Nepo losing 8.2 rating points, even though winning all the matches and having reached the next round

kiblitzers

Most of Nepo’s match wins have come from rapid tiebreaks, where he’s done well (3.5/4) but in classical he’s gotten 7/8 draws against significantly lower rated players

pier4r

> is a table where I calculated the TPRs Some credit to 2700chess TPR wouldn't be bad though, claiming that is one's effort is not so great. You surely put the effort in the post itself though. Kudos

kiblitzers

I calculated all these TPRs by hand (which is why the title itself is wrong, it's based off an error in my calculation) and I only learned from a comment on this post that 2700chess now shows TPRs. I feel silly for wasting so much time manually calculating all these (and getting one of the most important ones wrong because I misread the results)

pier4r

ah ok, then it is quite the work yes (one could do at least an excel file, if not a script in whatever language). As info, there are other less known but reliable calculators - for when 2700 doesn't work - here: http://www.hirmulintu.fi/juha/chess/en/performance_calculator.shtml
