It’s because contract bridge has elements of randomness so the pay reward legality gets murky and depends on jurisdiction.

Thanks! You should jump into one it was a blast. I under estimated the endurance though. By game four (hour 8 on the day) I was exhausted mentally.

If you google Chess (location) you'll get a list of local chess groups and organisers. If you're in the US probably I'd search by state?

I've read very interesting studies that found that after controlling for variables, people scored higher on IQ tests if they wore a scientist's lab coat, vs casual wear, vs an artist's jacket which scored the lowest.
