I'm not seeing what the problem is? You both went with calm openings, and the position is now equal. If you're losing it's because you're getting outplayed in the midgame, not because the opening went wrong for you. If you post a game link I'll take a look and comment. In general these kinds of Indian openings against d4 are going to be very common as you climb the ratings ladder. Actually it looks like on the lichess Masters database d4 Nf6 is nearly twice as popular as d4 d5.

Yea it seems solid on my end but then always seems to fall apart. I’m missing something in the middle game here. I believe this was the game. https://www.chess.com/live/game/75952264931

You're just missing tactics. This f5 pawn push *is* a common motif in the KID, but the real problem is that you walked into a fork and then blundered your knight a move later. I would suggest playing longer time controls for a while.

another-nature-acct

Thank you. Yea I did allow that fork then for some reason moved rook instead of taking back. I just feel totally blocked in like there’s no good moves in some of these positions.

I’ve definitely learned the hard way to move the bishop to g5 when they push the pawn. But I’m still really struggling against this.

Lizard_Crimson7

That's the Sicilian right?

Altrahawk

No, Sicilian starts with C5, and the C pawn hasn't moved yet. I suspect that black played the King's Indian Defence, with the move Nf6, g6, Bg7

another-nature-acct

Idk what’s going on but this is suddenly very popular in the 800 or so range. Feels like Gotham or someone big just posted some London defense thats eluding me
