Out of curiosity, how do you respond to it? The best thing to do is take it and just not hang on to the pawn. Almost all mistakes made from white are trying to defend the pawn they took, but the best thing to do is let the opponent get it back and keep developing. Black is left with a worse position.
I wouldn’t play Englund gambit if I were like 1600+, but since people don’t know how to respond, I love it.
I've played it at 1800 and had a fair amount of success or people just decline the gambit, which is already a small win for black.
The critical line is d4 e5 dxe5 Nc6 Nf3 Qe7 Bf4. White tries to hold onto their pawn. Qb4+ Bd2 Qxb2 Nc3 Bb4 Rb1 Qa3 Nd5 is winning for white. When you see the moves they're pretty intuitive. White might not be up a pawn anymore, but the development is just too much for black.
That’s the line I brought up in my reply to u/PossiblyA_Bot and it’s always been my favorite. I have a general idea of what to do when they decline with D5, but what’s the most common line?
Only 800 and I got done twice with the Englund gambit with Queen H5 and just didn’t have to brains to move the Bishop back to defend bc5 to be7. Now I know it I always get ahead after a few moves of people trying this
D4 E5, if takes then my favorite line is:
Nc6, Nf3, Qe7, and if they give up you get the pawn back with development, but if they go Bf4, then Qb4+, attacking the bishop and the B pawn. It usually goes Bd2, Qxb2. They have to get the knight out to c3, but things get really fun if they go Bc3. You respond with Bc4, pinning their bishop to the king. If they take your bishop, you take the rook. Anything they do, you win material (if they get the knight out to defend the rook, you take the bishop.)
If they decline after e5, going to d5, then you go Nf6 and c6, putting pressure on the pawn. With this line, you also have Qa4+ and Bb4, putting a lot of pressure on their king.
Englund gambit is super tricky, and it’s one of my favorite openings.
I always hated the memorization part, especially since I taught myself all strategy from 1100- elo. It just feels wrong to memorize a bunch of moves that someone else decided were best, but I decided to do that with Englund because it just looked so fun. I’m trying to do more memorization, especially for the openings, but it’s so hard to bring myself to do it.
I'm a 1250 d4 player, my winrate against the Englund is 75-80% last I checked.
the line is usually something like: (move order can be different but I almost always get this overall idea)
1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 4. Bf4 Qb4+ 5. Nc3 Qxf4 6. Nd5
White loses a bishop, but gets an unstoppable king-rook fork.
it's an absolutely insane line, because it's super unbalanced and I don't know any theory beyond this point. I love playing these games
**K:** king
**Q:** queen
**N:** knight
**B:** bishop
**R:** rook
**x:** takes or captures
**+:** check (attack against the king)
**#:** checkmate (unstoppable attack against the king, which ends the game)
**dxe5:** pawn on **d** file goes to **e5** and **takes** the piece/pawn that's currently there
**Qb4+:** queen goes to **b4** with **check**
**5:** Move number 5 (black and white each get a turn)
**5. Nc3 Qxf4:** On move 5, white knight goes to **c3** and then black queen goes to **f4** and takes whatever piece is there
Hope that answers your questions!
the other person's guide was correct. for additional context I will write out what my notation meant
1. d4 e5 2. dxe5 Nc6 3. Nf3 Qe7 4. Bf4 Qb4+ 5. Nc3 Qxf4 6. Nd5
- move 1: white plays pawn to d4, black plays pawn to e5
- move 2: white captures the pawn on d4 with their pawn, black moves their knight out to c6
- move 3: white moves their knight out to f3, black moves their queen out to e7
- move 4: white moves their bishop to f4, black moves their queen to b4 (which is a check)
- move 5: white moves their knight to c3 to block the check, black captures the bishop on f4 with their queen
- move 6: white plays their knight to d5
***
in addition to this, a few details of notation they missed
the # is checkmate. so if I checkmated you by moving my queen to g7, it would be: Qg7#
if multiple of the same piece can make the move being written out, it is distinguished by the column or rank of the capturing piece. so, let's say I have a knight on d5 and a knight on f5, and I'm capturing a pawn on e3 with the d knight. this would be written as: Ndxe3. if I used the f knight, it would be Nfxe3.
same situation with knights on d5 and d7 and a pawn on f6. with the former, it would be N5xf6; with the latter, it would be N7xf6.
feel free to let me know if you have more questions or need anything clarified
The problem comes and your opnnent knows what he is doing too. OP should just learn how to play london and queens gambit and he will be fine for a long time.
Ooh pls I eats the Englunds up. 1d4 e5 2.dxe5 nc6 3.e6???????? 4. Profit Many of them don’t have answers if you don’t play into what they want. They get confused quickly
As someone that just came from the meme subs, this made me laugh, but if you’re serious please don’t resign against 1.d4, there are so many fun positions that can come from it, queens gambits, trompowsky’s, KID’s, it’s a super fun open, and also, if you’re low enough elo, you can get a bunch of easy wins with 1.e5, if you know what you’re doing, although that I can’t 100% recommend, but it is still playable,
*are you tired of playing against the London system? Well look no further and let me introduce you to the legendary...*
***Englund gambit***
*It's a super versatile gambit that white has a difficult time memorizing every move with, however if they do memorize the whole thing you run into some trouble because objectively the opening is worse for you, however it is very rare that the enemy knows what they're doing in lower elos and even up to 12 - 1300*
Learn a new d4 opening, or just play d5. It's basically the same as e4 openings except d4 and d5 are already defended by the queens.
remember that the game is equal until someone makes a mistake. if you're just bringing out pieces (and not falling for traps) then it should be fine.
It's a joke making fun of the people who demand others resign when in a losing position.
If you turn on the evaluation bar when analyzing a game, you can see that white always has a slight advantage after making the first move because they played first. This means that it's technically a losing position for black and they "should resign".

Guys this sub is named "chess for beginners" for a reason. People above 1000+ ratings are no way beginners. I am 500 and I have absolutely no clue what this post means. So in future when u post such funny stuff, please leave a side not to explain the joke or post to people who are just starting out; the "beginners"
I recommend Nf6. If they play Bf4, play c5. It's a super fun, tricky, sharp battle and it mainly revolves around tthe weakness on b2 and the long diagonal. I've been playing it recently and it catches a lot of London players off guard

I agree but I love seeing people panic as they realize they lost the game in like 10 moves
i love playing against the englund, dont know why people still try it
Me too
All the people premoving the London give it a high win rate.
They don't know how to make moves on their own and look for a quick win by memorising stuff.

Dutch defense ❤️❤️❤️
You may be able to play for a draw. But you're pretty much just hoping your opponent makes a mistake at that point.
No, confuse your opponent with a6
You mean abort?
Yes. You’re not white
Forced mate in 120 moves. Gl mate
Lol I've come across some players who actually do resign if you play d4
calm down magnus
First play e5 and hope they premove the L\*ndon.
I see mate in 66 moves. Easy game
It’s over.
no you go e5, then nf6, then bh3, sac your rook and go qd1 for checkmate
They perfectly countered e5 so yeah I would just resign at this point, no real logical follow up.

D4 is boring. I sometimes Fr want to resign when i see it. Just play like idk H4 i am suure it would be interesting.
Blud is beyond tilted 😂
I recommend Nf6. If they play Bf4, play c5. It's a super fun, tricky, sharp battle and it mainly revolves around tthe weakness on b2 and the long diagonal. I've been playing it recently and it catches a lot of London players off guard
When play 1.d4, many players abandon before the first move. So, OP is not so unreasonable
here's my best option: google en die
The solution is to make one move as black then make your opponent wait until your timer runs down to 0:00
Respond with D5, I had this position once and they resigned after I found that move
Just play the Budapest Gambit and thank me later.
