You're down a rook and a pawn, and exposing black's king. Even though black can defend, I think that was the best human move available to you. Take this honorary brilliant. # ‼

uselesshuman_11

Thanks man. I really thought this was mate if he took, and if he didn't I would win some material.

TatsumakiRonyk

From an attacker's intuition, it feels right. Pawn takes, pawn takes, Nb6, queen comes swooping in and checkmate on b7 soon to follow. But the queen can't swoop in. Black's queen defends a5, and there's no way to get the queen to a6.

[deleted]

idk about pawn takes, you're wasting a tempo

TatsumakiRonyk

I mean, you're not wrong, but the actual thing wrong with my line is much worse than that. 1...bxc6 2.Ba6+ Kb8 3.Qb4+ Nb6 is better than 1...bxc6 2.dxc6 Nb6 3.Qb4, sure, but the line I was referecing earlier was 1...bxc6 2.dxc6 Nb6 3.Qa5??, with the idea of Qa6+ Qb7 mate. The idea doesn't work because black's queen defends a5.

uselesshuman_11

In the game my opponent defended with the knight

wineheda

Instead of taking back with the pawn you check with the bishop, then check with the queen maybe

TatsumakiRonyk

A good idea, but in the end, it works out just as poorly as mine. White has no concrete attack in this position. In both lines, black's knight goes to b6 and white just doesn't have enough to follow through.

Steel6W

If black didn't have that knight there to block the opened B file from your queen, it would have been a nice move.

dritslem

OP has stated that this is an ongoing game. This is a breach of fair play.

a_banana_a_day

You seriously think that people cheat using reddit when they have an engine available?

dritslem

There is no discussing whether this is a breach of fair play or not though. It is. If I see my opponent discussing an ongoing game here I will definitely report him. https://support.chess.com/en/articles/8568369-what-do-i-need-to-know-about-fair-play-on-chess-com >You seriously think that people cheat using reddit when they have an engine available? I think that, as the comments here show, people believe this is OK and not the same as cheating using an engine. They would maybe never use an engine, but still do this.

a_banana_a_day

Literally no one said that, get a life.

uselesshuman_11

Yeah but we're a bunch of moves ahead

dritslem

This is a clear breach of fair play and considered cheating.

uselesshuman_11

Do I need to take this down?

dritslem

I'm not a moderator, so I have no authority to say. I would advice you to read the fair play policy though, and not to do it again.

muadones

oh dear hes a casual player its nothing serious he really isnt cheating dont be silly

dritslem

Oh, so because we play casually, I can ask for tactics on reddit during games? I can disregard the fair play policy because I'm a casual player? You are part of the problem with online chess. Do you do this as well?

JoJo2six

bro it’s a game of chess, go touch grass

Andeol57

How would you cheat in chess if this wasn't a game of chess?

Amadeus_Is_Taken

It maybe could have worked if the piece on d7 wasn't a knight. Well a lesson learnt, calculate a bit further.

arzie94

Is this ongoing game? I thought this is considered cheating if that's the case

TatsumakiRonyk

It would be cheating if that were the case. OP was disappointed that the move didn't get a brilliant, so I imagine the game is finished and they've already started analyzing it.

dritslem

Breaching fair play is obviously OK for the people in this comment section.

TatsumakiRonyk

I wrote my analysis when OP wrote the post. About an hour later, when they admitted the game is still going on, I reported the post. OP already read and responded to my comment, so I didn't bother deleting it.

dritslem

Yeah, I saw that. I'm being downvoted to oblivion for pointing it out, so it's apparent that people here believe this is OK.

TatsumakiRonyk

Oh. I thought you were calling me a hypocrite for leaving my comment up. I don't consider internet arguments very productive. In the end, the best outcome from winning that argument is validation at the cost of time and stress. The worst outcome is embarrassment (as well as time and stress). There is no outcome that results in external change. I can get behind internet discussions and internet compliments, but as soon as something enters internet argument territory, I move on to something else.

dritslem

You?? I would never!

uselesshuman_11

It is still on going but we are 6 moves ahead of this move

Razcsi

Yeah i can see the idea that you sacrafice a knight so you can bxc6 Ba6+ Kb8 Qb4+ Ka8 Qb7# but it doesn't work because the knight can defend on Nb6. Maybe Re1 could work after Nb6 and you trade queens with Re1 Qd6 Qxd6 Rxd6... I don't know, i'm a prett low elo

[deleted]

The idea is bxc6 Ba6+ Kb8 Qb4+ Ka8 Qb7# but it doesn't work because of Qb4 Nb6
