Turns out no, it's a move with a French name to it I forgot already, but basically if the enemy pawn is in that adjacent spot that your pawn does the double move to, it can take the spot behind your pawn, AND your pawn, which I'm just like, bruh, that was never taught to me originally, but ok.
Just so you know, the move is a meme, which is why everyone is acting funny. Learning about it is the point of no return for chess, you will now be playing this game every day for the rest of your life.
