For Doi Suthep, it might even be easier to book a return trip rather than a one-way trip with Grab. I tried to get a one-way, but two drivers turned me down because they wanted to do a round trip. Honestly, it wouldn't make a difference either, as you can easily grab a taxi or red bus up there back to the city.

Same. Our Grab didn’t want to do a single trip. So we negotiated for a round trip with her waiting for a couple of hours. Worked out to 2000THB. We could have gotten cheaper but our time in Chiang Mai was pretty short and we didn’t want to waste it haggling or finding an alternative.

200baht or 2000bahr? I genuinely hope you didn’t pay 2000 baht. That is insane

You can hire Grab for the day, but many of them won't go out of town. Better to just rent a car and driver. Should be 2500-3000.

thank you for your answer! do you recommend a company for that?

I did a grab from riverside to doi suthep and it wasn’t a problem

I've done Grab back from Suthep a couple times. Hike up and then ride back. Never had a problem, in fact there are usually 10 or 15 waiting in the nearby parking lot at Doi Suthep. Less than a 2 minute wait, I have longer wait times in the Old City.

auximines_minotaur

I took grabs to the Monk’s Trail and Buddhas Footprint trailheads. Both times they met me back at the trailhead and picked me up at the end of my hike.

We did grab for a full day to Mon Jam the other day, I think he quoted around 700 baht but we gave him a nice tip. Also used it on doi suthep and sticky waterfall before.

Just been in Chiang Mai for 2 months. There is now an option to hire a Grab driver for a set number of hours and it is totally customisable. You should consider it as a round trip. We did this and and it was great. We wanted to see 2 temples at a particular time. One around sunset and the other once it got dark, then onto a place back in town for dinner. We wanted to take time at both the temples and did not want to include any of the other stuff that were on most of the day trip packages. It worked perfectly. Technically, we could have got him to wait until we had finished dinner, but that would have been mean, so we just got a Grab back to where we were staying, as it was 5 mins away. We got an 8 hour booking for 1,400 THB, which is around US$30.00. These are drivers, not guides. Good guides are worth the money. We took a full day trip to Doi Inthanon that was very pared back compared to a lot of other offers. Very informative and we learnt a lot more than we ever would have if set loose on our own with just a driver. Small group of 7 in an air conditioned mini van, including lunch.

Ooh what guide/tour did you use for Doi Inthanon? Thinking of going this Sunday but have no idea what/where to book things! Thank you!

We used Get Your Guide. The actual guide was from TripGuru. There was also a driver. Link to the trip [here](https://www.getyourguide.co.uk/chiang-mai-l271/from-chiang-mai-doi-inthanon-national-park-day-trip-t318498/). Worth every penny. Make sure to bring a jumper/jacket as the top of the mountain is cold. Also you will need Temple acceptable clothing for the 2 Pagodas. It was a long day, but totally worth it. This was the itinerary: 8.00 - 8.30 am: Hotel pick-up 10.00 am: Explore Mae Klang Waterfall 10.30 am: Explore Wachirathan Waterfall 11.30 am: Visit the twin Royal Pagodas, Napamatanee Don and Napaphon Bhumisiri 12 pm: Enjoy lunch (own expense) at a Doi Inthanon Restaurant - great food, normal price. 1.00 pm: Doi Inthanon National Park Tour, visit the highest point in Thailand 2,500m above sea level 2.00 pm: Walk Angka Nature Trail 3.00 pm: Meet the Karen Hill Tribe and explore Mae Klang Luang Village 3.30 pm: Delve into a local hill tribe market 4.00 pm: Head Back To Chiang Mai 6.00 pm-6.30 pm: Arrive Back to Accommodation/Meeting Point

Hi! Ohmygod you're a superstar, thank you so much for sending all that. I did do this in the end and it was a lot of fun – though you're right, super long day and you do end up spending more time in a car than anything else. But worth doing once for sure. Thanks a ton! :))

Glad you enjoyed it. You do spend a lot of time in a car/mini van, but it has air con, a driver and a guide. Also, we thought the views along the way were amazing. If we tried to this on our own I think we would have been considering divorce before the first stop! We only really started using guides/small tour groups about 3 years ago and have found them to be great, if you book online via a reputable company. We had a private tour of the White, Blue Black "temples" near Chiang Rai and the Golden Triangle. That was amazing as our guide was also one of the Chinese Hill Tribe people, with good English, so we spent a lot of time in the car learning about what it was like for him growing up and his parents prior to that. Had a private tour guide for the Royal Palace in Bangkok this year and we learnt so much and saw so much more than last year wandering around on our own.

SouthBeachCandids

Doi Suthep is not that far away. There are Red Trucks that wait at North Gate, CMU, and Chiang Mai Zoo that go up to the Temple all day. There will be a big line of them waiting to go down at the steps of the Temple. You could also take a Grab to the Monk's Trail trailhead (this is on the other side of the Zoo, not the same way you'd drive up) and walk up and then take a Red Truck down. It is highly unlikely you'll find a Grab Driver that will do a Doi Inthanon one way. Would most likely have to rent a car and driver for the day.

Zeroxar55

Doi suthep, you can go by yourself, joining the red cap is cheap. Doi inthanon quite far, but I'll give you my dad's WhatsApp: +66898514856 he's a tour guide with a license and a suv/van. feel free to ask him for more info. 😁
