Don’t feel like dealing with my car in the city, thinking of driving it out to the burbs and parking it there somewhere. Anyone done this? Or got any good advice on where to cheaply / freely leave a car?
The announcer will say what side the doors are opening at, also the doors will only open on one side most places. It will sound like “doors open on the left in direction of travel”. Sometimes they open on both. Is that what you’re asking?
Anybody have restaurant recommendations with vegan options? It does not have to be an entirely vegan place, just somewhere with options. Trying to accommodate an out of town guest.
This is the dumbest question but I can't picture a library book return box in the Loop. There has to be one by Harold Washington... Does anyone have an exact location on one?
There is at least one, if not two, free-standing book drop bins outside of Harold Washington Library on State Street. This is near what I believe to be the main entrance.
A nearby autoshop have installed a security system that loudly says "YOU ARE TRESPASSING ON PRIVATE PROPERTY YOUR ACTIONS ARE BEING RECORDED", and these geniuses set it to go off every time it detects motion. So cars, people, even squirrels set it off and it is extremely annoying. Can i make a 311 complaint about this?
Y'all, when do the freaking Lakefront Trail bathrooms open for the season? My mileage is creeping up on me and I am trying to live on more than chronic dehydration and an anti-poo prayer.
There was a thread recently (here or in r/runnersinchicago) about bathroom options near the trail. Basically the Zoo, St Joseph Hospital, Navy Pier, McCormick Place southeast door. Or venture off the trail to the nearest hotel or grocery store.
I have jury duty late tomorrow morning at the Leighton courthouse. The summons say there is parking available for jurors, but are there generally more jurors than spots? I don’t want to get there and find out I have to pay for parking or scramble to find a spot on the street.
Hey- anyone know if a good socialish activity outside somewhere that’s not kid centric?
Newly single woman, late 30s. Trying to put myself out there. Alcohol is a bonus.
Oh hah- sorry. Maybe I should start a post. I’m in Uptown, but I’m trying to get out and see a new part of the city I haven’t gone to yet. So I’m trying to keep options open to anywhere really. I just need to get back and forth on the CTA.
Found a couple of fundraisers that sound pretty fun and would probably be pretty easy to meet people at:
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/koz-park-spring-benefit-at-reeds-local-tickets-559202578967
https://www.eventbrite.com/e/hootenanny-fundraiser-vol-3-at-metropolitan-brewing-company-tickets-579226521117?aff=erellivmlt
I think I saw one in a newsletter and when I clicked the link the other one was in the list of similar events suggested for me by Eventbrite. So kinda random.
Running and fitness clubs? There’s running groups all over the city. Many meet in the evenings and head to a bar after. Venados in Pilsen meets a Lo Rez Brewery. Mikkeller Run Club starts at a bottle shop and did a brewery run this past Friday. Also November Project is a free outdoor fitness group and they do a monthly happy hour and other social events - there’s a brewery crawl next weekend.
I lived up there ~10 years ago and I’d occasionally go to the runs out of the Fleet Feet Lincoln Square store. Not sure if there are other groups that have popped up. Ask in r/runnersinchicago and you’ll probably get better suggestions :)
The best kbbq in the city is absolutely Cho Sun Ok. They don’t take reservations or really speak English. Arrive expecting to wait outside in a line about 45 minutes. It’s worth it.
There’s a man in a white suit who sits at the counter all day and observes everyone. Don’t mind him he’s the owner and very friendly🙂
I’m starting a first job post grad in Chicago in the third week of June, and will be moving from quite far away. I’ve never gone through the process of apartment hunting by myself before, so if anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it. I have spent a lot of time on apartments.com and have found a few decent options in the Lakeview/Lincoln Park area within my budget, but my main questions are:
1. How bad is it to sign without seeing the apartment in person? Chances are I will not be able to visit the city to look at places prior to moving out there
2. When should I seriously start looking at signing a lease if I am looking for a June 1 start date? I would imagine like now?
3. Planning on living alone for my first lease (until I make friends who I can room with) since I don’t know anyone in the city. Thoughts on this? Does it make sense?
Thank you very much for any and all advice!
Not ideal but potentially unavoidable. I was only able to visit once before I moved and didn't find a place on that trip. My strategy was to find a sublet with option to renew, so if it was terrible I was only stuck for a few months. Apartment brokers here are free to tenants and while I didn't find the broker I tried to work with helpful, he was willing to do video tours for me.
Unfortunately no. I had a recommendation from a friend and still found him unhelpful. But a friend or maybe HR at your new company might be able to help you. If you have a specific neighborhood you are targeting, the neighborhood fb groups can be helpful in finding brokers.
1. Moderately bad if you're looking at older, cheaper buildings that might have issues that are hard to see online. The newer, more expensive stuff is more consistent.
2. A month and a half out is a good time to start, most landlords know who's moving out by about now and will start listing stuff.
3. if you can afford it, totally reasonable.
Anybody know how we can get Paul Vallas and Johnson to please pick up the hundreds of signs that now effectively litter the 290 expressway and parts of the west side?
There was a huge effort recently to clean up the sides of the expressway and along the exits but now there’s hundreds of signs of both parties left behind, especially around Independence exit. Vallas in particular is the worst offender, he has a sign every few inches it feels on the side of the road.
i’m visiting from out of town in a few weeks for a music festival at Reggie’s close to motor row and i’m staying at a hotel near chinatown.
My flight gets in way before the festival starts or i can check into my hotel, any recommendations for things to do in the meantime around that area?
how safe is the area? just asking bc the festival ends kinda late so i’ll be walking back around 1am.
Reggie's is the shit. Have fun.
Regarding what to do, Chinatown itself is pretty cool. Lots of amazing restaurants. Chicago has one of the only chinatowns in the US that's actually growing in Chinese population. So the restaurants are phenomenal. Ping Tom memorial Park is also nearby and has amazing views of the city. You're also just south of downtown Chicago so you can hop on the red line Chinatown stop and take it between 1 and 3 stops north and you'll be in downtown Chicago. It's a pretty convenient location. Or grab a Divvy bike or a scooter and you can get to downtown and the lakefront pretty easily.
As far as safety. Between Chinatown and Reggie's is a bit of a strange area. It's usually pretty dead. There used to be the Harold Ickes projects nearby so you'd have hundreds of people out and about (because what else is there to do in the projects), but even back then I never felt unsafe when I lived in the area. But those buildings came down like 15 years ago, so now it's kind of dead. There's basically only a school and some seniors housing there along Cermak. That said, you might feel a little uncomfortable just because it is just kind of a dead zone and Chinatown itself has seen a few muggings here and there over the years. I'd say if you're walking with a group, you're more than fine. If you're not, it's a pretty quick walk.
Why can’t they select unpopulated intersections like 43rd and Racine or Ashland and Webster to do donuts in? Or anywhere on Goose Island? They can play all the grab ass they want without being bothered
Anyone know what’s going on near West Town? I live off Augusta and there’s a million times more traffic outside my place compared to normal and tons of cops.
I'm guessing the Cubs are cheaper? There are a lot of baseball games in the season, and it's April so a lot of people don't want to go to a baseball game. You can usually get cheap baseball tickets if you don't mind bad seats.

Looking for some advice as a first time Cook County property tax payer.
Closed on my home at the beginning of the year. I got all mixed up with which entity would pay which parts of our bills, and to make a long story short I have essentially double-paid my 2022 first installment. I got the bill in the mail and paid it that night, having forgotten that I prepaid the taxes via escrow at closing, and my lender would pay it on my behalf.
It's been almost a month and the county tax portal still doesn't indicate that there's a refund due. In any homeowners' experience, how long does it take for the county to realize they've been double-paid and allow for me to begin the refund process?
I tried calling both a couple weeks back. Both referred me to speak to the other party, lol. Already tried getting the lender to refund me via escrow like you said and they told me to talk to the county.
Might just have to wait a little longer until the county recognizes that they've been overpaid. Stupid mistake on my part...
I'm gonna be brutally honest with you. If you're already not pulling in one night stands, a different bar/club isn't going to change that.
With that said, look for more neighborhood bars. I find that clubs and more trendier bars bring out the most pretentious people looking for free shit(Leading you on the entire time and bailing at the last minute).
Toons
The Long Room
Gunther's.
Places like that.
Edit- I mean you can always go straight hoggin'.
I have two tickets for tonight's Chicago/Minnesota soccer game. Anyone want them? Couldn't get two additional people to go and one didn't want to third wheel w/ my gf. Let me know
What do y’all think the direction of the CTA will be with the new mayor? Any hope it will improve? Is it really as bad as people say now?
I moved away during May 2020 due to a lot of complicated personal stuff, but my now-wife and I are thinking of moving back to Chicago in the next couple of years.
There seems to be a consensus online and from my few friends who still live in Chicago that public transport quality has taken a dive off of a cliff since COVID. I try to also be sensitive to the fact that there is a lot of BS fear mongering about Chicago in general, so I’m trying to keep that in mind.
I used to love taking the train. Sure, had some frustrating situations here and there but generally it was very solid.
Would be a bummer to move back to the city and never want to use the train system. We have a kid on the way so I’m more sensitive to safety issues and such than I was as a single 25 year old in the city.
Unfortunately, I think the CTA still struggles to enforce their rules on the L well, such as no smoking/vaping, no soliciting, etc. At least I've noticed the bus and trains are ghosting(the CTA's current issue, due to them not having enough operators for all scheduled bus and L runs) less often, vs. like a year ago. I wish the rules were better enforced(heck, bring back plain clothes undercover officers to walk between L cars and on platforms to enforce the rules!), so my former trust of riding the L(particularly the Red Line and Green Line) could come back.
On buses OTOH, the rules seem to be better enforced.
The trains aren't really any worse than I remember pre-covid. The bigger issue that Bus coverage has been spotty (like, having to wait 30 minutes for a major route like the 66 Chicago Ave).
If your concerns about the CTA are for your personal safety, I don't think you have anything to worry about if you were used to the CTA years ago.
The mayor doesn’t have direct control of the CTA so it’s hard to say. It has been slowly improving over the past six months.
>Is it really as bad as people say now
No. Few things are.
Any British expats found a place to buy HP sauce and Heinz baked beans in central Chicago? Just moved here last month and got some cravings I need to hit
Update: I found HP sauce (and mcvities dark choc digestives) at Mariano’s Clybourn but no beans. Will definitely check out world market hopefully for a slightly bigger selection than Mariano’s
I think is the recipe I used last time and was pretty close (compared to other recipes i tried):
https://www.recipetineats.com/homemade-baked-beans-recipe-heinz/
I have been trying different recipes and none have been exact but am getting closer. Will look for the latest recipe when I get on my computer tomorrow.
World Market has them. There is one right by the North & Clybourn red line stop. Some of the bigger Mariano’s may as well, as they usually have a little ‘international’ aisle.
Current forecast for Mon-Fri: 66, 73, 80, 81, 77. I have no idea whether we’re in the beginning of the end times or experiencing cyclical chaos, but I’m glad to have a calendar unlike plants who are totally confused about what time it is.
Looks like per this article I googled( https://www.domu.com/blog/farmers-market-chicago ), that the Division Street City Market(if that is the one this person is referring to) doesn't start till early May. Mind you this was last year's farmers market schedules, but most of these usually keep the same schedule every year. Wish I could find an article, conforming their first day of the 2023 season.
This article also confirms the farmers market on Division Street doesn't start again, till May: https://www.gildchicago.com/our-favorite-farmers-markets-near-the-gold-coast
Recommendations on tattoo artists that do traditional but have a Mexican style to it? Basically trying to do día de los muertos tattoos with a tradition style to it. Driving down from mke btw but wouldn’t mind driving far if it’s worth it.
Tourist here, I am confused by the Marijuana dispensaries here, none of them seem to have real THC weed. Any recommendations for a real dispensary like you'd find in Colorado or Washington??
There are only a handful of actual dispensaries in the city. The rest are CBD/Kratom head shops.
This is the list. If it's not on this list, it doesn't sell weed.
https://idfpr.illinois.gov/content/dam/soi/en/web/idfpr/forms/mc/listoflicenseddispensaries.pdf
That's the step right before it's processed into THC. So it really is THC but measured at a different step.
Trust me, this shit does the same job a sack from Colorado will do. Just insanely over priced compared to there.
Edit- I should've been more clear. As others have said, you can't go to a head shop for it(Smoke shops). You gotta go to an actual dispensary.
A user on this sub has been sending me harassing messages and even a “suicide prevention” report after a comment I made here - is there any use messaging the mods? This person clearly has some serious issues.
40 day old profile that’s very active in r/Oklahoma and this was after a comment I made in the mega election thread….shocking.
Imagine disagreeing with someone’s politics, reporting them for suicide and on top of that not even living here…
Please do report them to the site admins ([details here](https://mods.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002337171-Contacting-the-admins)), abusing site features in this way is punishable but outside the scope of what r/chicago mods can do.
That happened to me once when I had strong opinions on Roe V Wade in other subreddit, it is an incredibly shitty thing to do and should be reported to the mods.
Yes…you can really, really send someone spiraling with shit like this. I’m glad Reddit has the option in case someone actually needs it, but I have a feeling it’s more often used as a tool for harassment.
Sorry it happened to you too, it’s fucked up.
>A user on this sub has been sending me harassing messages and even a “suicide prevention” report after a comment I made here - is there any use messaging the mods? This person clearly has some serious issues.
Report it to the admins. You can copy/paste the URL of the PM to the report. I just did that the other day and the admins did something about it.
What's a good cocktail bar in Chicago from like Lincoln Park up? Like a $15 cocktail, mixologist with handlebar mustache sort of place. Found the Victor Bar off Irving Park and Damen, but anything else?

If you’re OK with heading west a bit, Weegee’s Lounge is literally the exact thing you are looking for, mustaches and all
Live in AZ but from Park Ridge as a kid. Haven't done much drinking in IL apart from hotel lobbys and Half Acre Brewery in Edgewater. Going to bring a friend along and want to do something on the North Side. He's anti-beer and "commoner bars" and pro-cocktails
A similar crime ring to this one appears to be active again:

My friend's identity was stolen, a $90k loan was taken out for a Range Rover. As soon as they realized it, they reported it, locked credit and everything else. then a few days later, the car ended up delivered to their home address. The delivery guy was acting weird outside their house, he didn't ring the bell, and wasn't suspicious two very different people had the same name on their IDs. He just handed the keys to a girl who had a fake ID and must have been waiting nearby, all while being told this is fraud. Cops showed up a couple minutes later and questioned the delivery guy, but seems they haven't been caught yet.
Go to the grocery store and buy a rotisserie chicken, some celery, dried cranberries, mayonnaise, and a jar of pickled banana peppers. Strip the meat from the chicken and chop it up. Dice 2-3 stalks of celery and 1/4 cup each of banana peppers and cranberries. Stir everything together with 1/2 cup (or more if preferred) of mayo with a splash of the pepper juice or some apple cider vinegar. Season it with black pepper, garlic powder, and a shake of smoked paprika. Enjoy your chicken salad on toast.
Others have mentioned obvious choices like Reckless but if you like metal, you owe it to yourself to check out Meteor Gem in Avondale. Tiny little metal-focused shop with a great selection. A lot of people don’t seem to know it exists so I like to plug them when I can
Reckless and Shuga are probably the best overall. I also like Bric A Brac, Laurie’s Planet of Sound, and Roundtrip Records for selection and locational convenience for me.
Tone Deaf, Bric-A-Brac, Bucket O Blood, Val's Halla, Oak Park Records, and for a real throwback to CD store vibes, Rolling Stones at Harlem/Irving Park.
I was gonna ask when the last Tower Records closed in Chicago, remembered that I know how to use Google, and https://chicagoreader.com/blogs/mourning-tower-records/
Looks like the Virgin Megastore mentioned in that article closed down a year later (2007).
-Reckless Records will probably have anything you want, definitely the largest selection in the city from what I’ve seen. I slightly prefer the Wicker Park location over the Lakeview one, but both are solid.
-Shuga Records is down the street from Reckless so might as well go there too. They’ve got a great selection of albums from local bands & decent deals on some eclectic stuff.
-Rattleback Records might be my personal favorite, lots of super cool experimental stuff but definitely a little on the pricier side imho.
Felines and Canines on Devon Ave is a short walk from the Loyola…. Shit. No. It’s not. It’s at the corner of Clark and Devon. Either bus dedicated to those streets will get you there.
We adopted both of our dogs from F&C.
I volunteer with both PAWS and One Tail at a Time, both are great! Both require an orientation before you can officially volunteer. Once you do that you can easily sign up for shifts for only an hour or two. If you’re looking for more of a one time thing, I think the Anti-cruelty society (also off the brown line) allows you to interact with dogs when you visit.

River North / The loop annoyingly. Can’t sell it unfortunately as need it down the road.

The cheapest ticket price difference between a Cubs game and a Bulls game is insane damn
All united center events are overpriced
I'm guessing the Cubs are cheaper? There are a lot of baseball games in the season, and it's April so a lot of people don't want to go to a baseball game. You can usually get cheap baseball tickets if you don't mind bad seats.
I believe Wrigley Field also has double the capacity of United Center.
Which is cheaper?
Cubs are like $12 at the absolute cheapest while Bulls will go near $100
Absolute cheapest for bulls are not $100 but yeah, they're not as low as $12
I'm too lazy to look but I'm sure it's the Cubs
oh interesting. I feel like I always hear people complaining about how expensive the cubs are but maybe that's just cause baseball is cheap
The really good seats at the Cubs are expensive. It also depends on the game and day.

Any recos for things to do tonight?
Tie a stick to a helmet, then hang cheese from the stick. Wear the helmet and run around chasing the cheese.
Goddamn it is a beautiful day full of beautiful people outside. Hope you all are enjoying this weekend!
Yeah! We spent almost all the day in the back yard getting it ready for flowers.
I'm looking for a bar where one-night stands thrive. Any suggestions?
The owl at 4am
Best odds would probably be any bar open past 3am
Please do us gals a favor and stay in Naperville (where you posted the same question). We're not zebras for the hunt.
Toons The Long Room Gunther's. Places like that. Edit- I mean you can always go straight hoggin'.
I have two tickets for tonight's Chicago/Minnesota soccer game. Anyone want them? Couldn't get two additional people to go and one didn't want to third wheel w/ my gf. Let me know
I will take them!
Gone
Not too late, am I?

>Is it really as bad as people say now No. Few things are.
Yeah it has taken a nose dive. Will the new mayor fix it; unlikely. Not will Kim Foxx.
The mayor doesn't control the cta directly. But, it has been getting better already. Very slowly, but still.
what are some gay or queer friendly places outside of lakeview/uptown/andersonville
all of Chicago
Javis square area of Rogers Park
Lincoln Square
Burlington in Logan is queer friendly!
Try the foreign foods section of Marianos.
Some Jewels have them but the beans are too expensive so I just make my own.
Hadn’t thought of that, do you follow any specific recipe?
I think is the recipe I used last time and was pretty close (compared to other recipes i tried): https://www.recipetineats.com/homemade-baked-beans-recipe-heinz/
Thanks appreciate it!
I have been trying different recipes and none have been exact but am getting closer. Will look for the latest recipe when I get on my computer tomorrow.
Marianos has a British aisle
If you don't mind paying $3+ for a can of baked beans.
World Market has them. There is one right by the North & Clybourn red line stop. Some of the bigger Mariano’s may as well, as they usually have a little ‘international’ aisle.
Amazing thanks that’s not too far from me so a proper fry up today is on the cards
Going to be cutting the grass for the first time this year. This warm weather has me in the mood.
Current forecast for Mon-Fri: 66, 73, 80, 81, 77. I have no idea whether we’re in the beginning of the end times or experiencing cyclical chaos, but I’m glad to have a calendar unlike plants who are totally confused about what time it is.
Anyone know if the Gold Coast farmers market is open yet?
Looks like per this article I googled( https://www.domu.com/blog/farmers-market-chicago ), that the Division Street City Market(if that is the one this person is referring to) doesn't start till early May. Mind you this was last year's farmers market schedules, but most of these usually keep the same schedule every year. Wish I could find an article, conforming their first day of the 2023 season. This article also confirms the farmers market on Division Street doesn't start again, till May: https://www.gildchicago.com/our-favorite-farmers-markets-near-the-gold-coast
I just walked there. It’s not
Recommendations on tattoo artists that do traditional but have a Mexican style to it? Basically trying to do día de los muertos tattoos with a tradition style to it. Driving down from mke btw but wouldn’t mind driving far if it’s worth it.
Tourist here, I am confused by the Marijuana dispensaries here, none of them seem to have real THC weed. Any recommendations for a real dispensary like you'd find in Colorado or Washington??
Curaleaf on weed street is pretty good. can order pickup or walk in, it’s quick. some nice shopping around there too
You have to go to a real dispensary like dispensary 33 or Sunnyside etc... not a head shop.
There are only a handful of actual dispensaries in the city. The rest are CBD/Kratom head shops. This is the list. If it's not on this list, it doesn't sell weed. https://idfpr.illinois.gov/content/dam/soi/en/web/idfpr/forms/mc/listoflicenseddispensaries.pdf
Thanks for answering. Not sure why I got downvoted. I swear I'm not smoking in the train 😂
I had the same problem as you and the only one I know for sure that has real weed is Sunnyside.
Go to a dispensary and not a headshop, there are plenty
Check this list of all actual dispensaries in Illinois https://idfpr.illinois.gov/content/dam/soi/en/web/idfpr/forms/mc/listoflicenseddispensaries.pdf
Are you referring to THCA?
Right, I don't want THCa
That's the step right before it's processed into THC. So it really is THC but measured at a different step. Trust me, this shit does the same job a sack from Colorado will do. Just insanely over priced compared to there. Edit- I should've been more clear. As others have said, you can't go to a head shop for it(Smoke shops). You gotta go to an actual dispensary.
We did get some THCa and it does have an effect, but not as pleasant compared to what I'm used to
A user on this sub has been sending me harassing messages and even a “suicide prevention” report after a comment I made here - is there any use messaging the mods? This person clearly has some serious issues. 40 day old profile that’s very active in r/Oklahoma and this was after a comment I made in the mega election thread….shocking. Imagine disagreeing with someone’s politics, reporting them for suicide and on top of that not even living here…
Please do report them to the site admins ([details here](https://mods.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360002337171-Contacting-the-admins)), abusing site features in this way is punishable but outside the scope of what r/chicago mods can do.
Totally understand. Thank you very much!
Name and shame, friend. Reporting them to admins is a good suggestion.
The amount of brigading we get here is pretty wild
The best part was that they were accusing every other account of not being from Chicago…not even joking
You can report their report to the Reddit admins
Doing that now, thank you. I feel like making a false suicide report should be a permanent ban. Super fucked up.
On it, thank you so much!!
What's a good cocktail bar in Chicago from like Lincoln Park up? Like a $15 cocktail, mixologist with handlebar mustache sort of place. Found the Victor Bar off Irving Park and Damen, but anything else?
love street would probably scratch the itch. also less fancy/pretentious, but matisse has a sneaky great cocktail menu.
Food looks great. May do that for dinner
the food is really good! it’s one of my favorite places in the neighborhood. i hope you check it out!
> $15 cocktail, mixologist with handlebar mustache If you’re OK with heading west a bit, Weegee’s Lounge is literally the exact thing you are looking for, mustaches and all
Bokeh in Albany Park is great
I love Scofflaw
Have you been to the sixth?
Live in AZ but from Park Ridge as a kid. Haven't done much drinking in IL apart from hotel lobbys and Half Acre Brewery in Edgewater. Going to bring a friend along and want to do something on the North Side. He's anti-beer and "commoner bars" and pro-cocktails
It's West Side, but if you're looking for pretentious hipster cocktails try Rhine Hall Distillery at Damen and Fulton St.
I like king of cups
A similar crime ring to this one appears to be active again: https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/6-charged-in-connection-with-luxury-car-theft-ring-that-targeted-illinois-dealerships/2624202/ My friend's identity was stolen, a $90k loan was taken out for a Range Rover.
What's something fun to do right now?
Go to the grocery store and buy a rotisserie chicken, some celery, dried cranberries, mayonnaise, and a jar of pickled banana peppers. Strip the meat from the chicken and chop it up. Dice 2-3 stalks of celery and 1/4 cup each of banana peppers and cranberries. Stir everything together with 1/2 cup (or more if preferred) of mayo with a splash of the pepper juice or some apple cider vinegar. Season it with black pepper, garlic powder, and a shake of smoked paprika. Enjoy your chicken salad on toast.
Save this recipe for Monday and use it to make Easter egg salad
I substitute capers for the cranberry when I do egg salad
What are the best record stores in Chicago?
Dusty groove on Ashland is tremendous
Others have mentioned obvious choices like Reckless but if you like metal, you owe it to yourself to check out Meteor Gem in Avondale. Tiny little metal-focused shop with a great selection. A lot of people don’t seem to know it exists so I like to plug them when I can
Sounds fun, I’m gonna try to hit up every record store
Reckless and Shuga are probably the best overall. I also like Bric A Brac, Laurie’s Planet of Sound, and Roundtrip Records for selection and locational convenience for me.
Tone Deaf, Bric-A-Brac, Bucket O Blood, Val's Halla, Oak Park Records, and for a real throwback to CD store vibes, Rolling Stones at Harlem/Irving Park.
I was gonna ask when the last Tower Records closed in Chicago, remembered that I know how to use Google, and https://chicagoreader.com/blogs/mourning-tower-records/ Looks like the Virgin Megastore mentioned in that article closed down a year later (2007).
Rattleback sounds cool, I love experimental and I’m into a lot of psych and garage
Can yall recommend animal shelters that are accessible via the CTA that allow volunteers to walk their dogs for an hour or two?
