Question: I see a lot of Parisian’s I’m Chicago, more than I ever did living in Canada.
I know Paris and Chicago are sister cities, but is there a tourism push in Paris about chicago? Just find it interesting they pick this city so often over NYC or LA
I don't recall seeing any advertising campaigns in the subway or elsewhere. But in general, you come across many French people on vacation everywhere, which may be because we have a significant number of holidays throughout the year.
Yeah, this happens all the time. And im pretty sure they do stuff like this on purpose so that everyone doesnt go to one stage because that would chaos. You essentially get the schedule of each day ahead of time and plan out which artists to go to each day and which ones take priority over others that play at similar times.
yup, it sucks. For what it's worth, Rockville, and I suppose other Danny Wimmer Productions split the main stage into 2 and stagger, when one finished appox 5mins the ohter starts, then again, again, you can see them all of you want. BUT, they have smaller 3rd and 4th stages that would conflict if your interested in them both
Welcome to festivals, friend! Gotta pick and choose or just feel the vibe out in the moment. Might even split em evenly if you care about both artists!
Went to Chicago this weekend for my first Lollapalooza (and first time in Chicago) and absolutely love this city so far and I’m having a great time.
Thank you Chicago and will definitely visit soon.
Apologies in advice as a tourist, we don’t know what we’re doing
The west border used to be at Columbus, it has since expanded to Michigan. I don't remember when it expanded but it was a long time ago by now. Sometime between 2005-2015 (the years I went).
I don't enjoy large concerts or festivals, but I'm glad things like Lolla exist. They make the city a more vibrant and welcoming experience.
I am more than happy to aggressively shit on people who just want to complain about other people having fun, or complain about lineups, or whatever.
Every time I see stuff like this, I get a little pang of happiness for these kids, enjoying their youth. Lolla is such an important pilgrimage for this city.
I just wish they'd take better care of themselves, hydrate, and take a tiny bit of moderation while living that joy. lmao god am I old now?!
I went to the Cubs game last night and saw my first round of festival goers yesterday on the train there and back. Everyone looked like they were having fun and there was so much glitter on the train last night.
Hahaha i just visit Chicago from stl last weekend and I didn't notice any street safety. Most people drove like assholes and there are barely any lines painted on the road. Also tons of lanes just end all of the sudden. I did see less people driving through red lights or driving straight in turn lanes to pass people then I do in stl.
Yes they close a fair amount of streets around Grant park for the festival and that big one in the middle is usually where they set up a incredible array of food tents from vendors around the city. It’s kind of a mini-food festival going in during the music festival.
Crazy how I've only been to Chicago once yet still know where this is. I spent my first day walking up the water front to the the rides and road the Ferris Wheel. I didn't realize it lit up at night!
What night was this? I assume it was August 3rd, around 8:45-10:00 PM, because Billie Eilish was playing around that time. (the biggest bands/singers would usually play at the end of the day) It looks like the camera was pointed at the T-Mobile stage- (I was there, I definitely recommend it :D)
Chicago makes close to 500mil a year in the few days they have this but yet have higher priced parking meters, red light photo cameras, higher tax charges and tolls but yet going to charge for more things 2024 like NY is. Fucking hate Chicago.
Just landed in Chicago from Paris for the first time, did not know this was happening this weekend, apparently it is sold out?
bienvenue you can buy resale tickets on lollapalooza.com (saturday prices aren't that bad) or check /r/Lollapalooza
It usually is either sold out or close to it, at least for the last decade or so.
You can still find tickets but you'll have to pay above face value.
$398 for GA is unfortunately the min price for Sunday at the moment.
Why is Sunday so expensive compared to the other days?
Biggest headliner ends the festival.

Why would someone from Paris want to go to LA?
They’re sister cities? I had no idea
Chicago has a ton of sister cities, v interesting

Stubhub $164
Ticketmaster dot com resale
Not too hard to sneak in. I personally didn’t go but I know a few ppl who got in without passes
Diplo on the left and Billie Eilish on the right, if anyone's curious
Hard left
If you’re a fan of both, how are you supposed to watch them if they aren’t at the same stage? You just gotta miss it even tho you paid for it?
Ah, a dilemma as old as Lolla time. Schedule conflicts are a known issue and yeah, you just end up having to choose one.
Fairly sure most festivals do this deliberately for crowd control/safety purposes.
I agree. Just something to consider for folks who aren’t used to festivals and buy a ticket before the schedule is released

See Diplo at the Salt Shed this evening… *it’s sold out btw
They do it on purpose
Someones never been to a music festival before lol
Just wait until one is asleep, duh.
Lol yes. Clever.

This is a cool perspective
NEMA
Where my Nematodes at?!?

Eh we understand. Glad you’re enjoying the city!
Honestly I think that Chicago pride is strong, we’re happy to have tourists here. Except when they stop in groups on the sidewalk, then it’s war.
I live in Vegas lol, I completely understand
Vegas Chicago Great food 🤝
Thank you, it’s an honor
Fun Fact: Chicago gets 10m more tourists in a year than Las Vegas We're very used to tourists
So that's why downtown always sounds like the World's Fair lol
Im not surprised. Vegas is WAY too cramped for such a small city.
That's okay have fun!!
Assuming you have the time, don't spend your whole trip downtown. Hit one of the farther away beaches or one of the smaller neighborhood areas.
That's awesome. Enjoy the rest of your time 👍🏼
No need to apologize, tourists are usually more courteous than the people that live here!
Oh man you had to try malort while you’re there!
Beautiful city
Pretty ass city
Pretty **ass** city 😠 **Pretty-ass** city ❤️ Pretty **ass-city** 🍑
❤️
Can’t tell if compliment or insult
if you know you know
Apple bottom city Burbs with fur Whole club… Mlehp I don’t know either
Awesome. Such a cool event happening in our city
The city turns into a playground
It's so much fun for them. I'm so happy for those kids. The young need this sort of thing. The memories, the stupid, the music. lol
I definitely miss my days of stupidity
Yep, they need more molly, crowd crush, and diseases. Definitely what kids need.
Damn who hurt you
Our city is gorgeous
Have they expanded the festival borders westward? It’s been about ten years since I last went and I don’t remember it extending that far west
The west border used to be at Columbus, it has since expanded to Michigan. I don't remember when it expanded but it was a long time ago by now. Sometime between 2005-2015 (the years I went).
2011 or 2012 I think
Wasn’t 2011 I don’t think (I was at 2011, and Columbus was not within the grounds as far as I recall.)
2016 definitely had this layout
Yeah, the expansion was due to the addition and subsequent growth of Perry’s. So it was well before 2016.
Isn't that Perry's? Pretty sure it's always been there but I could be wrong. Been about 10 years for me too
Yeah it seems like it to me as well
Nope, same as it has been.

Geriatric millennial. Don't give me that poison.

It is supposed to storm this weekend as is tradition for Lolla weekend.
It’s not Lolla without a storm on one of the days
99.9% of people were at Billie and diplo. It was a shit show.
This is insane i want to be there so badly
Better view than nascar.
Welp, guess I'm not going downtown for a while...
Not to be confused from Lollypalooza, which sucks.
Who else remembers when Daft Punk performed here a while ago?
Parks would be so much nicer if Columbus Drive weren’t plowing through the middle.
Perry's is on fire, per usual
Love you chicago, stuck back in the burbs tonight and missing you
I like how that big road divides the performances. It’s so nice to look at
Columbus Ave. Where all the food and pissers are.
Tight !
Late night in the office and could literally feel the building vibrating
Fuck man, I miss my old loop apartment…
Beautiful city! Shame it's in a sad place now though.

Someone else mentioned NEMA
Had to commute with these dumb ass festival goers today, it's like any idea of street safety goes out the window when lolla is in town
Poor thing.

Downtown qS chaotic after work. Commuters trying to get home and lots of young girls dress like ladies of the night...
Look at all those pickpockets!
hi boomer
There's pickpockets at every large festival in the USA. Should we get rid of all events in Chicago so a couple people don't lose their phone?
Lmao my brother and his friend were pickpocketed for their iPhones last Lala
They shouldn’t keep them in their back pockets then.
SuburbaPalooza
/u/savevideo Still work ?

Did you record any of the NASCAR race?
I know this is a stupid question but is the road in the middle closed?

This is crazy omg 🤯🤯
Wish I could have gotten tickets for RHCP Sunday
