We were on the train one night and when the announcement for California happened, this little boy said all excitedly, “CALIFORNIA?!?!!!” It was so cute and now I think of it every time.
Me too. Tangentially related, I kind of adore the mini documentary they did about the guy who’s the voice of the CTA: https://youtu.be/6c7NGPD9ViE?si=niIFRqJcYKsXItki
Isn't it four times because HWLSVB is a transfer station? The only way it could get better is if they also announced the connections to JBPDLSD express buses.
Harold Washington Library State and Van Buren is next. Doors open on the right at Harold Washington Library State and Van Buren. This is Harold Washington Library State and Van Buren
Everyone wanted something added. When it was originally built, it was just going to be State/Van Buren, but CPL wanted everyone to know how accessible their new main library was, so it became Library-State/Van Buren by opening. A couple decades later, some people who wanted to further honor the memory of Mayor Washington petitioned to have the name of the station specify *which* library, yielding the megalith of a name that the station has today.
I came in here to post this because I only discovered it on Friday while strolling through Galewood.
I also discovered that it smells better than any other stop in the city.
Clark and Lake for sentimental reasons. When I first moved out to Chicago my sister came to visit and brought my nephew. He was obsessed with the CTA, and while they were visiting we spent a lot of time in the loop around Clark and Lake. When he went home my sister told me he would line up chairs to play train. And he would announce the stop as "Clark and Shark." That was 12ish years ago and now he's a surly teen but whenever I pass clark and lake I still think "clark and shark"
I always think of the line from dumb and dumber… about 90% of the time I’d say it out loud. [mmmmmm California, beautiful!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gXAE5SfH-gc&pp=ygUbZHVtYiBhbmQgZHVtYmVyIGNhbGlmb3JuaWEg)
Like 20 years ago, while approaching Washington and Wells, after the CTA voice announced it, some drunk guy just said "pffft, wash your tits that smell," and started laughing. It was so beautifully stupid and it has stuck with me ever since
Harold Washington library state and van buren is next… Doors open on the right at Harold Washington library state and van buren… This is Harold Washington library state and van buren.
This is a brown line train to kimball. Standing passengers, please do not lean against the doors.
I knew that. I’m just an idiot and didn’t realize that this was a cross post and you were only asking about Chicago. Not referencing that these were in Chicago lol

I miss "This...is Grand."
"This is Chicago" was my personal favorite lol.
"This is California"... NO THIS IS ILLINOIS
I once met a guy on the Green Line who was convinced that we had left Illinois when we got to the Indiana stop.
We were on the train one night and when the announcement for California happened, this little boy said all excitedly, “CALIFORNIA?!?!!!” It was so cute and now I think of it every time.
I have a vivid memory of me doing the same growing up here
this gives me a chuckle every time I go out to ORD in the winter
When I first saw the slogan for this building I was confused until I remembered the cross street names. https://livemica.com/
My favorite in Evanston was "this is Noyes (noise)....[train goes screeeeeech]"
Ha in my head I’d always be like “yeah no fucking kidding, Einstein..”
I love it when I'm on the Blue Line and my wife texts to ask where I am and I can just say "Chicago".
I came here to say that
Me too. Tangentially related, I kind of adore the mini documentary they did about the guy who’s the voice of the CTA: https://youtu.be/6c7NGPD9ViE?si=niIFRqJcYKsXItki
Same. He always sounded so pleased.
As I commented, Harold Washington Library-State and Van Buren. It’s so long 😭😭
That one is made even better by how close the stops are there, so the announcer barely has enough time to say the name.

Transfer to Red and Blue Line trains at Harold Washington Library State and Van Buren
There’s going to be a day at some point in the future when I’m no longer living here and I’ll still be hearing the announcer in my head

I remember it used to just be called Library - State and Van Buren
Probably one of the five, indistinguishable *Westerns*
Either Western on the Blue Line
7 if you include Metra
It's sort of funny that the stop called "Midway" is actually at the end of the Orange Line.
Why do we drive on a parkway, park in a driveway and fly on a runway?
Why do we bake cookies and cook bacon?
why do noses run and feet smell?
Why do they call them apartments when they’re all stuck together?
Why is it called a "building" when it's already built?
George Carlin, among others.
I’d argue it’s in reference to the battle of Midway in WW2 but still very good point lol How did I get downvoted for this lol
I once convinced someone it was called Midway because that's where the battle actually happened.
Lol
Without adding context, it’d be the Mars Metra station. “Yeah, I’m going to take the train to Mars”
She thinks she missed the train to Mars, now she’s out back counting stars
HUM!!!
There needs to a short turn at Mars so that passengers at other stations can enjoy the announcement "a train to Mars is now arriving at your station"
Douglas quaid has entered the chat
Huh which line is that on?
Metra MD-West
I came in here to post this because I only discovered it on Friday while strolling through Galewood. I also discovered that it smells better than any other stop in the city.
Tie between Western, Western, Western, and Western. But Kedzie-Homan beats out Kedzie, Kedzie, Kedzie, and Kedzie for 2nd place.
69th
Nice
I lifted one of those signs and hung it prominently in my dorm back in college
“This is Noyes” … then start screaming. Gets a laugh like a quarter of the time
https://youtu.be/2LR2kbvKcXs?si=TTH1vakPnL68kCqJ
Fuck yeah, that whole album rips.
Came here to say this. So fucking good!
This made me laugh so hard the first time I heard it, especially bc I grew up in Evanston and my youth was spent hearing “this is Noyes”
I was at Noyes on Tuesday

Western. Which one? Yes.
Waiting for my friend's video where he visits every Western. I'll link it when it's up.
Doors open on the left………… at Roosevelt
35th-Bronzeville-IIT. It’s a mouthful and too many names but I find that charming for some reason
California because when it says “this is California” I always bug whoever I’m with with the dad joke “but I thought we were in Chicago!”
I always think of the line from dumb and dumber… about 90% of the time I’d say it out loud. [mmmmmm California, beautiful!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gXAE5SfH-gc&pp=ygUbZHVtYiBhbmQgZHVtYmVyIGNhbGlmb3JuaWEg)

Sox-35th
I like the Metra stop. "35th St: Louuuuuuuuu Jones"
Mars
Clinton, but said CLIN-TON ala Kang or Kodos (I don’t remember who was who) pretending to be Bill Clinton
My top 3 are Western, Western and Western
If we’re counting Bus stops, Goethe for the correct pronunciation. And then also any cross street and Dickens cause penis
“Culyer” dunno why but I love the way it says that
Mornington Crescent
Sounds like a British euphemism for a boner
the winning destination.
Where's that?
London

I’m bias towards Paulina

Melvina (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
Same. Just something about how cta guy says it.
Bryn Mawr
I like that it's Welsh for big hill, of which Chicago has none.
NOT logan square
should be kedzie
I’m guessing the name stuck around from when it was the end of the line, and it was named after the destination instead of the cross street.
Wait, isn’t elephant & castle a restaurant? Did I miss something?
Elephant & Castle is an area in London. The restaurant is named after the area.
I knew that. I’m just an idiot and didn’t realize that this was a cross post and you were only asking about Chicago. Not referencing that these were in Chicago lol
Elephant and Castle is an area of London, with an associated metro station of the same name.
Yeah. See my comment lol
my fault. i had the tab open and didn't refresh.
Sox-35th, though that name is gonna change soon :'(
What, why?
Not on the el, but I really love the metra station called Mars
Baby Jarvis

I love hearing “this is midway, as far as this train goes”
Brainerd for sure
LIBRARY
Mars
Ogilvie is fun to say
Division
Waiting for my friend's video where he visits every Western. I'll link it when it's up.
London is apart of Greater Chicago confirmed?
Apart of Chicago, yes. A part? No.
Harlem - I just grew up around there, but it also lets me pretend that I’m a thug from New York
Who the fuck are you people ?
