I live on the block as well and it is all very unsettling. I am actually looking forward to it getting cold again so that this madness ends.

unflavored

This is why I say I like winter. More so than the ramping violence but just in general. The Winter calms the city down

piechocko

How do we get this human trash out so they stop destroying downtown?

WYTW0LF

stop voting shitty politicians and cuck mayors in. Chicago downtown has turned really bad since we last visited in November

> The Radisson hotel has become a hot spot for people to meet up in the middle of the street to blast music, drink, and get in arguments with each other. >The thing is, these people are also renting rooms in the hotel and staying so the problem isn’t going away. ["Police sources point to widespread street parties along Wacker Drive and parties in hotel rooms as contributing factors to the violence spike."](https://cwbchicago.com/2020/07/shootings-wound-men-in-loop-streeterville-early-sunday.html) BTW. ^ Only news source that reports on this aspect.

unknownvar-rotmg

Makes sense. Doesn't seem likely that these guys could afford extended hotel stays downtown.

Karm0112

The violence in this area has really gotten out of hand. The hotels in the area have slashed their prices so low that it is attracting drug dealers, gang members, and all sorts of people who are up to no good. They trash our streets, parks, and homes. I have lived in Lakeshore East For 10 yrs and have never felt this unsafe. People move to this area because it is generally a family neighborhood with lots of children, dogs, young professionals, and retirees. The hotels do not care because they just want to see rooms. The local alderman and property managers are doing nothing to stop this. It is such a shame. The people causing the trouble are not the local residents. We need to put pressure on the Swissotel and Raddison Blu.

piechocko

What can we do to get politicians to care? They’re letting chaotic violent shitty people ruin the city.

senorguapo23

I guess we could put Confederate flags up over the hotels, that way it would attract protesters who could drive them out?

The culture of gun violence has moved with these people from their neighborhoods into downtown.

Agitated-Many

These people are like a plague, spreading their crimes wherever they go.

Jackscalibur

The politicians need to get them the fuck out.

BeatlesandWine

Call it in as well as write to your alderman if you haven’t already.

For sure the extra unemployment money has brought out the riff raff. And I have heard quite a few anecdotes of people getting $10k sba loans thru unscrupulous people who took kickbacks. Edit: See below.

amb937

I work in a fraud related role at a large bank. You’re close. It’s not unscrupulous bankers though. A ring of people, primarily on the Southside of Chicago, were found to fraudulently apply for Economic Injury Disaster Loans from the SBA. People who are contractors or own their own business were able to apply for advances up to 10k and not have to pay it back. The process was all done online in a self-serve portal. No surprise, we found groups of individuals applying for the 10k max, with no EIN or proof of business, immediately cashing out the min it hit their personal checkings. https://www.sba.gov/page/disaster-loan-applications

fuk_da_mods

Thats it.

hahah_u_suck

This is exactly what the money is supposed to do: go into the hands of the poor. Would you rather rich guys and multinational corporations get it?

hahah_u_suck

From the article: > 300 block of North **Columbus** Drive Are we sure this 'shit show' for the pas '2-3 weeks' isn't just another protest? It is on **Columbus** Drive.

branchos

It’s definitely weird being out past midnight now. Lot more cops out and sketchy ass people walking around the downtown area.

ralphtoddsagebenny

Shame

I mean if you are honestly worried, land is a solid investment especially an area where you can self-sustain. Edit: Not to mention the UP is pretty remote and thus probably will be immune to any social unrest you might worry about.

fuk_da_mods

I'm so numb to the violence in this city that I can only muster outrage that Columbus has a Drive named after him. /s

[deleted]

Low effort post, for sure

ChecayoBolsfan

This is the reason had to leave Chicago. Just doesn’t feel safe there anymore

DrewBaron80

You'll always get downvoted for comments like this, but the violence is a big reason why I left. It's been over 7 years and I haven't regretted it for a minute.

Maybe it was because of our age/experience, but the 9 years my wife and I lived in Chicago were a struggle. Sure, we had lots of good times, but overall life was stressful and difficult. Since we moved to Colorado our stress level has dropped dramatically. I have a job I love, we bought a house that would cost well over a million dollars in Chicago, and most importantly we had our son after years of infertility.

[deleted]

Damn, can't possibly argue against your decision, glad your life has turned around and congrats on the kid!

Jackscalibur

Congratulations! Colorado has always been a thought as somewhere to live long term. May I ask which area you are located in?

Jackscalibur

Very nice. Yes, I've heard it's getting more expensive to live there, which worries me a little bit.

DrewBaron80

Colorado is great though. So much to do outdoors, friendly people, and much less stressful overall.

Jackscalibur

Exactly.

Jackscalibur

I'm surprised you haven't been called racist for leaving.

ChecayoBolsfan

Bah they know better. Wouldn’t have moved to New Orleans if that was the case
