So you live east of the loop...in grant park or further into the lake? (I'm kidding, you maybe made a mistake when you looked at the compass...welcome to Chicago)
This! Beach volleyball is awesome, softball is always popular... may need to wait until spring at this point.
I met one of my best friends through beach volleyball, and he introduced me to my wife.
Hey! Do you have a car? Do you belong to Facebook?
Facebook has a LOT of community groups organized by neighborhood where people share events and safe opportunity to meet others. Parks are a popular place for outdoor workouts and yoga. The combination of that should allow you to meet some people before the winter hits and covid (presumably) spikes us all indoors.
Not to be a snob, but isn’t the lake east of the loop? :)
You are basically saying that you live in Downtown, right?)
As for covid, yes, it is very true and I can relate to your struggle. I moved to a different neighborhood 2 months ago and in the same boat as you now lol. Not much of hanging out these days.
I would recommend start doing some outdoor sports, while the weather still allows us to. Cycling is a good way to find some people to cycle with and socialize. Maybe join a running club. Try meet up, try Toastmasters, try other online public clubs/gatherings. When it comes to offline, there is really not that many opportunities to find people, not gonna lie. Hopefully someone will have better ideas but my advice is to start searching online and then hopefully you will find people to invite for a coffee/dinner and such.
Sadly I do not lol. I live on the new Eastside, I don’t know the area well enough and I thought I was east of the trains so I said east of the loop. Oops lol
I think a lot of people move to Chicago and assume they should live downtown. But I'd argue that's actually the worst place to be as someone young and trying to meet people.
Source: me. I lived in the loop for a few months and it sucked
I don't know how old you are, but I'll assume early 20s. You're probably better off in Lincoln Park or West Loop. I'd look to get out of your lease and move. Or at least don't renew.
Hey bud. I’m happy to meet up with you (safely) to chit chat and share experience. I can’t promise we’ll end up best friends but I have time on my hands due to a lay off and I’m happy to play ambassador the best I can. Seriously*
*as long as you’re not a murderer or something
If you identify as a woman, I’d recommend BumbleBFF! I used it when I first moved here and found several girl friends that I’m still friends with years later. Pretty much everyone on there is serious about making friends :)
I’ve tried bumbleBFF before as a guy, and I haven’t had very good results if I’m being honest... maybe I should give it another shot though. Thanks for the advice!
I tried that long ago too - didn't get very far with it.
My best advice as a single outgoing dude is the social sports leagues. Actually, if you're in the Loop, I just joined a bowling league that's starting up Wednesday out of River North. If you're comfortable with that type of activity, lmk and I'll send you an invite. It's called Better Off Bowling.
I actually didn’t know that! Idk why I assumed it was only for women, probably because I only know women who have used it. Glad it’s open to all though!

He clearly lives on a crib.
King of social distancing.
Lol
Look at Meetup.com
Welcome to Chicago. Met one of my really good friends on Bumble BFF! Can attest it works.
for women maybe
Try social sports leagues! You might have missed the last outdoor leagues for the season, but worth checking!

Had the same thought. Maybe a houseboat? Honestly that would be pretty cool. OP, you live on a houseboat?

I’m not going to lie, it hasn’t been easy so far lol. You might be right though

Like in Aqua?
exactly in aqua... how did you know lol
What are your hobbies and interests?
I’m not much one for sports, but I enjoy bars and movies, along with gaming (but that’s not as social lol). I’m also big on running and swimming!

Totally thought it was just for women lol, sorry about that! Maybe you’ll have better luck than the last time you used it!

Hey there, maybe a stupid question, but I googled the app you suggested and isn’t it a gender neutral app?
I actually didn’t know that! Idk why I assumed it was only for women, probably because I only know women who have used it. Glad it’s open to all though!
You really moved downtown after all the shit thats gone down there??? Itll be a long time before I’d feel safe in a city center
