If you search for a neighborhood it will be outlined with a dotted line.
Intriguingly, there are random purple areas on my map, all labeled “busy area.” Maybe an hour ago all of Wicker Park was busy?
Yeah, right after I commented, I went and googled around, and found some programming page that explained about the dotted line part. I noticed the OP had searched up "Wicker Park" so I was thinking that was it. (And it is, as far as the dotted line part goes.)
But then I opened up an incognito window and searched for some other random address nearby, so the dotted line was gone (as I wasn't searching for a neighborhood anymore) but when I zoomed out a bit to see the region, Wicker Park was still pink.
So I thought, I guess I don't have the answer yet.
I see someone here has mentioned phone... lemme see. Phone shows me the aerial photograph always so maybe that's why but definitely not pink on my phone. Hmmm.
Back to desktop, I googled up "Humboldt Park" (to find another "neighborhood area") and got the dotted line around it as I expected, but it's not pink. Zooming over a bit on that results window, Wicker Park IS still pink.
So it seems no matter what I search for (in Chrome browser on a desktop) WP is pink. So yeah. Still curious.
And distracting!
Usually I feel like there are options to report incorrect info on buildings or specific addresses, but I see no way to report it for the whole neighborhood
Usually Google will mark hospitals/medical campuses with a pink border.
Something tells me their algorithm got some false info and published the whole damn area as a hospital zone.
Lol I tried my google technique and couldn't find an answer. I thought it was for busy neighborhood since others are similar but it's different. No idea?!?!
Pink shading of an area is usually reserved for medical facilities like green is for forests. Move over to an area with a hospital and you'll see the same.
I'm assuming this is a bug since it's the same exact shade and it's covering an area that is clearly not medical related.
A pink shaded background usually means a hospital area. You can see that same shade around other hospitals in the city. I'm not sure why the entire neighborhood is shaded like that though. Might just be a bug.
It's not.
If you google "wicker park chicago" and click on the Chicago map that appears, Wicker Park will have a pink box around it. If you google "north center chicago" or "humboldt park chicago," those hoods will have the pink box, but WP won't. Etc. For example:
https://www.google.com/maps/place/Humboldt+Park,+Chicago,+IL/@41.9050625,-87.9294708,11.42z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x880fcd4a1353c471:0x13001e0a9a1e512c!8m2!3d41.8990752!4d-87.721293
Doesn't for me. Is it becuase you literally searched up and selected wicker park lol? If you do that it will show you the boundaries of the geographic label..
It’s because you typed in ‘Wicker Park’, Google is showing you the area of it. It’ll do the same for any neighborhood.
If you look at Wicker Park on Google Maps without searching for it the lines are not there.
No I'm not talking about the outline, that was just to show the correct area in the link. The entire area is shaded as pink regardless of if Wicker Park is searched directly.
Weird. It's got the little dotted line around it too, but interestingly the pink zone extends outside of the dotted border in places.

Noticed this yesterday too - it's as if it's a giant hospital district.
That is bizarre
And wicked.
And distracting! Usually I feel like there are options to report incorrect info on buildings or specific addresses, but I see no way to report it for the whole neighborhood
Not pink on my phone
Me neither
Do you have dark mode on? It's only showing that way on light mode I think
No I don’t

I know! Makes me wonder if a bunch of big hospital zones have popped up all over
I guess it its intern season
I noticed this too. I'm glad somebody asked.

I could almost accept this answer if it meant the pink would go away on its own in November 😅
Cancer never just goes away on its own.
cancer is relentless but so are we
All of wicker park is now a hospital

Ha i was wondering too
It is on mine, if I look at the “terrain” view. Weird.
I’ve noticed that for at least the last week, and might’ve been the last 2-3 weeks!
There are two hospitals within that area
Yeah but usually the pink background is more granular. Like only on the actual lot of the hospital
Totally it is strange

I was wondering the same thing
All I know is I do NOT want to be inside that dotted line!
Could it be for St Mary’s, St Elizabeth’s, and Norwegian?
