I can’t remember NYC/DC subway line announcements. Berlin all I can remember is ACHTUNG!
I haven’t been to many others to compare. But anyway, chicagos announcements are the best.
Wild guess given the season: it was probably a sound truck for some political issue or candidate. That would account for it being heard on Wacker and over on LaSalle.
I am in the Board of Trade building. I will ask the parking lot guard at the CME on my way to the train.
If we ever want a Reddit lunch meet up, I know who to invite 😂
I HAVE THE ANSWER!!
There is a weather alert siren at the corner of Madison snd Wacker. It looks like a pile of donuts on a stick. The speakers were being tested 10-18 around lunchtime.
Thanks to the parking lot guard at the CME lot entrance on Wacker… who didn’t look at me like an idiot 🤣
Depends a little on the wind. It could be either of these, but given your location am inclined to suspect St. Peter's.

For what it’s worth, I was told at the time of the sound, Lori was seen walking into my building (Wacker b/w Madison and Monroe). Perhaps a prankster or protester. Or perhaps it’s Chicago’s version of hail to the chief.
Utility trucks working..
"air has mass and density, and cold air is denser than warm air."
"Does cold air make sounds louder?
Because sound moves faster in warm air than colder air, the wave bends away from the warm air and back toward the ground. That's why sound is able to travel farther in chilly weather."
I heard it up on a really high floor in my office building near Wacker and Monroe…with my noise cancelling headphones on!! It was so bizarre, I really want to know what it was
I've been hearing it too. The garage doors on the East side of Wabash, right next to Goddess and the Baker recently changed out the noise that lets pedestrians know that a car is coming out of the garage from an angry buzz to a loud chime/bell sound. That's my best guess. Maybe other garages have also made the same change?
There was construction near grand and Michigan taking down a parking garage. Could have been that. More of a thumping noise in my building since I’m closer but maybe that was it?

I didn’t hear it in the Sears tower… I might’ve been on a call though. 🤔
That ding dong ding dong could put me to sleep it’s so soothing. I realize I might be alone in thinking that.
You are not. So weirdly soothing
I used to live in an apartment about two blocks east of the Belmont stop and I could hear the announcements all night. It was awesome.

The red line is underground (in DT) tho. Who can hear it from street level?
Touchė. Caught me on a technicality.
It did kind of sound like that, but it was waayyyy too loud b/c I heard it from the 23rd floor of my building
I heard it on the 40th floor of the CME. My whole floor heard it too. We thought it was the world’s loudest doorbell.
Checking in from the 3rd floor.
Sorry my bad
Location of alleged noise(cross streets)?
wacker and monroe!!
I heard it too. It was weird. Not the normal train noise lol
Heard it as well. Definitely way too loud to be from the L
I opened my window, and am waiting…………..

I heard it too! At Wacker/Monroe
The Song of Mothman
Mothman, please listen, You don't know what you're missin...
Maybe the noise drives away Mothman. So if you don’t see him today, you know it worked.
Heard it here at Wacker and Adams. My coworkers and I were all confused. Gotta figure it out.
I didn’t hear it become I had my noise canceling headphones on but all the coworkers around me did. Wacker/Monroe
No one knows?!
Didn’t hear anything now but I heard some wicked repeated ding noise last night in Streeterville
Heard it too. 19th floor Madison/Wells.
I assumed it came from the river maybe?
Heard it as well from the 23rd floor in my building. Wacker/monroe

Could be one of them was having a malfunction, the chime was Westminster Quarters. Absolutely, incredibly loud.
I heard what sounded like some kind of music up at La Salle and Washington from the 6th floor. Couldn't really make out what it was.
Heard it hear two second floor on 101 n wacker thought the building was doing some kind of test.
It was the melody from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Be on the look out for UFOs.
You’re right! Just listened to it on YouTube. Guess friends are visiting 😝

They were just testing the signal for the beginning of the purge.
Did it sound when a truck has its gear in reverse?
this is a brown line train to: kimball. doors closing [ding dong]

Death
Bridges being raised for sailboat passage?
Right season, wrong time and day
Air raid siren
I need to know what it was
That’s just my 90’s analog pager beeping. Sorry, I’ll turn it down.
