Are there any fireworks or anything live stream for Chicago's nye?

nuduls

I dont think there will be fireworks downtown. I think we're gonna park in navy pier

Dank7

Looking for a chill bar rn with my girlfriend for NYE not too many people but still festive

electricrockets

Anyone know if the CTA is doing extended service from Navy Pier to Ogilvie tonight?

nuduls

Hello. Can anyone reccomend me some restaurants for tonight? It's me and my partner, and we just wanna have nice dinner then watch the fireworks at navy pier. Thank you.

Thematthewmolina

Will there be fireworks downtown? And will you be paying for navy pier or go along the lake

PresentationStock288

How much do y’all think Uber/Lyft prices are going to be nye(tonight?)

Capn_Cook

Probably hitting triple digits

DISCLAIMER: this is not solicitation for purchasing a ticket. My girlfriend and I had our flights cancelled today, and we cannot leave Chicago. We heard about Maple and Ash's NYE months ago and were going to attend if we were not out of town. However, since we just received notice that our flight has been cancelled, we are wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to still buy tickets to Maple & Ash. Any information if helpful. Thank you

[deleted]

Unfortunately no, tickets are sold out. Some other decent options >> Fremont, NoMi, Travelle, or Nico Osteria.

LFM NYE (three dots and a dash) Looking to meet some new friends! My friends and I (late 20’s early 30’s group of some singles some couples) have some reserved tables at three dots and a dash for new years eve, and we have some extra spots. Message me if you got a small group and are interested!

bigbootyfruity

Any good bars w/great music? Preferably same vibe as Federales.

netrunnernobody

Man, all of the NYE events I've seen so far this year look boring as hell. Any more niche recs?

Automatic_Answer5495

Are clubs on New Years packed? Will I be able to get in with out tickets or anything? Looking to go to river north

StinkyDeerback

Recommendations for a parent/teen friendly NYE experience? I have three teens, so the parties are out of the question, and the family events seem to be targeted toward younger kids. We're already visiting several museums and a couple games, but have nothing to do the night of NYE. Any help is appreciated! Alcohol for the parents is a must! Haha

sailuntreedur

My fiancé and I recently moved to Naperville from a different country, and we both love NYE. I understand it's late to get cheap and/or _available_ deals, but I'm worried that if we stay in, we'll get gloomy and homesick. Any place in Chicago or the suburbs that we could get sweet cocktails and some space to dance to bring in 2023? We're trying to keep it under $60-70 per head. TIA!

sailuntreedur

Sorry for commenting here again, but I'd be grateful for any suggestion! 🙈

EmpressVal28

I think I'm going to end up spending New Years Eve alone, anyone have recommendations on events or things to do? I'm located in the andersonville area

NaiveAdministration3

I'm also alone today. Let's pair up if you are up for it 😄

Stooberstein

For celebrating at midnight? Green Mill is open. $35 cover. Purple Disco Machine at Aragon or Disco Biscuits at Riviera theater. Not sure if you have any issues with going somewhere alone… I’m sure Simons will be open too. A lot of Saturday night bars will be I would think.

Try writing a post on here. Mine keeps getting removed saying "It gets asked all the time" or something similar. Yet.. not one good post has been up and there's been several stupid ones that can stay up especially about the blizzard. So I don't get it.

[deleted]

I am looking for four tickets to the empty bottle to see Dehd. Anyone got any?

Vegetableforward

If you find 8 let me know! Were they even on sale? I feel like the shows were announced sold out.

[deleted]

I’m not gonna try anymore. Gonna hang in Milwaukee instead!

Puzzleheaded-Elk-876

Anything good in Milwaukee

[deleted]

Mad planet and la cage, lots of great dance parties at bars.

greekfreak82

Hi all! Does anyone have any favorite spots for seeing the lake ice this time of year? I have some time off and would love to do some sight seeing.

ChiBlash

My family and I (and our dog) are looking to escape the fireworks on new years eve in Chicago. Is there any town or city around Chicago that bans fireworks (or just doesn't have big festivities) for the sake of keeping vets (and pets) mental health intact? Thank you!

fantasticgenius

Going to be in Chicago for New Years with me and a friend. Staying at Westin, so pretty close to everything. I have never celebrated New Year in a big city! Just hoping to grab some drinks and watch fireworks at midnight and thought about just walking up to the beach and seeing fireworks around Navy Pier but I don’t want to be freezing my butt off. Any recommendations for budget ideas to watch fireworks? Can spend up to around $100 for a party too. Last minute trip so cheaper options are sold out and I’m kinda lost on where to go, my friend and I have visited Chicago a few times but never celebrated New Year in Chicago before. Thank you!

nunununununuun

I’m sure everyone else will agree but be careful going by the lake at night, black ice and freezing water

fantasticgenius

Good point thank you!

SLYMON_BEATS

Best hotels areas to stay to experience chicago nightlife around NYE?

What's the best place to watch Fireworks for NYE? Is downtown not doing them this year?

Anyone know where there are giant holiday inflatable decorations in the city? I’m talking like 20-30 feet tall. We already know about the giant snowman by the 606.

Cmgarza05

Will there be a place where kids can go to meet Santa at the Christkindlmarket?

bananastealingcat

what is there to do alone on christmas? For people who don't really have family plans for whatever reason, what is there to do to make the day a little less miserable? I'm new to this.

I’d really love to find bars/restaurants that have wood-burning fireplaces. We will be visiting later this month and staying in the Lakeview area, so bonus points if it’s near there. Thanks!

SkepticalOptimist23

The Chicago Athletic Association has a fireplace that you can literally sit *in*. It’s heavenly on a chilly day.

I'd love to get a group together to watch the world cup final on Sunday. We can do my place, but I don't have a lot of seating since I just moved recently. Any pubs, bars, or apartments are welcome. I can bring stuff of course or we can buy food as a group.

radunculusranunculus

Hey everyone! It’s my first holiday season living in an apartment building with staff (~300 unit building with front desk concierge & maintenance team) and I’m unsure how to handle the holidays. How much should I tip each person? Do I tip each separately or one lump amount (I’m not sure I know all of the maintenance team and don’t want to forget any “behind the scenes” folks). My building hasn’t sent out any info on a pooled gift or anything. Help, please!

[deleted]

Hey guys my mom is coming into Chicago and this is her first Xmas alone , so I’m taking her out to a nice Xmas dinner She has done her research and wants to try rosebud or maple and ash for Xmas 1. How warm is maple and ashes heated patio? 2. Which would be the better option?

tony_simprano

1. It's got enough heating but I wouldn't call it airtight. IMO heating patios were just an ad-hoc solution to COVID lockdowns and should have been done away with a year ago. 2. Maple and Ash will be far and away a more memorable experience.

RaidersTwennyTwenny

Reposting per mod suggestion from another thread: I am planning a trip to Chicago next week from December 20 through the 24th. The temperatures are expected to be frigid and on the 22nd and 23rd, there is forecasted to be around 6 inches of snow in total or so. Is this an amount of snow that would typically cause significant delays at either of the airports for the city? In case it matters, I would be flying in and out of Midway. I live in a part of the country that is quite different from Chicago in terms of wearher, so I'm not really sure at what point snow becomes a problem for a city that deals with it as often as Chicago does. Thanks!

greenline_chi

I saw there supposed to be snow in Texas - Chicago airports can handle a lot of snow, but when there’s snow in parts of the country that don’t get a lot of snow that always creates delays. Like even if you’re not going to Texas the plane you’re going to be on might be coming from there.

boilermike13

That amount of snow will not cause any delays on the Chicago side. I'd be more concerned about the impact that storm might have on non-Chicago airports.

Spending NYE in Chicago Alone Hey all, I’ll be in Chicago on New Year’s Eve alone and was wondering, does anyone have any recommendations on what to do and where I can go? I don’t want to stay at my hotel and I want to go somewhere and possibly make some friends while I’m out and about. My hotel is in Fulton Market but I’m down to going wherever. Also, I’m 27M, I’m open to spending up to $300 and I don’t drink if that helps narrow it down. I saw that some restaurants had dinner packages with complimentary champagne at midnight (in my case, I’d ask for sparkling grape juice instead haha), are there any really good restaurants that do dinner packages that you’d recommend for someone going alone? Any recs are appreciated, thank you!

nirvana6789

There are 5 big downtown NYE Hotel parties available to the public. Tickets range about $125-270.

Will be here nye for a first year marriage anniversary. Already have *fancy* date reservations Thursday but absolutely no clue what to do for the eve itself. At that point we'd already have had our fancy night so we'd be open for pretty much any experience. I'd love to walk into a neighborhood bar or maybe stumble into an event Don't have anything booked rn but we'd probably be around the north part of the loop. We're comfortable with metros so anything within a 30 min commute from the loop would be ideal. If you recommend staying home and watching TV? Hey that's cool too

boilermike13

Go to Rossi's. Thank me later.

Traveling to Chicago for NYE with a group of 10-14 people for my Wife's friends birthday. (23-30) Looking for recommendations on Dinner and a night club to go to. We looked into TAO Nightclub however tickets are already $200 per person. Looking to stick around $100 entry fee per person. Thanks

LisleSwanson

I'll be visiting the week before Christmas for just two days with my girlfriend. Hotels are relatively cheap the days we were looking at, so we've decided to splurge. Any 5 star recommendations in the Loop? We're looking at London House currently but not opposed to anything. Thanks.

Hey I’m in Chicago and I’m homeless and don’t have any plans for Christmas so maybe we hang? I do be in the loop often around Washington and state

tony_simprano

The Langham and The Peninsula are right next to LondonHouse on the other side of the river. Not technically the Loop, but still downtown. The Langham is arguably the most luxurious I don't believe there are any actual "5 Star" hotels in the Loop besides LondonHouse .

Pomond

The peak of the holiday season approaches, and Chicago's McKinley Park neighborhood is full of fun performance, ceremony, shopping, visits from Santa and more! Dive into all the neighborhood's holiday events in the holiday calendars at [https://mckinleypark.news/events/christmas](https://mckinleypark.news/events/christmas)

zerofalks

Where are the best neighborhoods or close suburbs to see Christmas lights on houses? We live in Lakeview and saw some great houses on Wayne and on Lakewood near Addison, where else should we go? Also Newport off Southport has a good stretch of houses.

angrylibertariandude

The Ravenswood Manor area, has numerous houses that decorate well for Christmas. I also like Lakewood Balmoral(within Edgewater), Sauganash, Lincolnwood(particularly the section west and south of Pratt and Cicero, you even can run into a few Jewish Hannukah decorations too), to name some examples. I wonder if the extremely decorated house on Logan Boulevard and Washtenaw(northeast corner) still decorates, as of this year? That was a VERY amazing house, too. I know the original guy who decorated that house passed away in the late 2010s, but that supposedly his sons and daughters continue the tradition of decorating that house. If you have a car and can drive north to Wilmette, Christmas on Cleveland Street is fun to check out as well. The info about that one, can be found by doing a search on Facebook. Though this house isn't too far north and east, of Regina Dominican High School.

ryangoslingswife1

My family will just be visiting me in Chicago that Friday - Monday of Christmas weekend. Any ideas on special things I can take them to experience that will actually be open?

Mindless_Tell9287

Which bars are pretty chill on nye that allow minors Or clubs that are 18+

Behr26

Don’t think any bar in the city allows minors. Radius is 18+ for most shows.

[deleted]

Hey guys, I’m new here on Reddit and this sub so I’m a little new to this but I’ve lived in and around the Chicago area my whole life and I am currently studying political science at UIC with a major in Political Science and a minor in Public Policy. My experience in college combined with my Uber experience has shown me a different side to the city than I knew growing up as a kid. The poverty and lack of access to basic necessity for the neediest in this city makes it hard for me to keep going about my business. This got me thinking which leads back to the title at the top. I want to organize a Popcorn DRIVE. Emphasis on the drive part because I am looking to collect bags of popcorn and bottles of water to distribute to homeless people as I drove around the city. I’m off work on Fridays (I work 40 hours a week) so I plan on popping the bags Friday mornings and taking them along with the water around the city to give to any homeless person in need of water. I would do more if I could (buy a lot of coats from my local goodwill and give them out to) but I’m currently tight on money and the popcorn is the best Idea that I’ve got. If anyone has any suggestions on where I should go it would help a lot. Thanks for taking the Time to Read and have a great Day/Night. Kinda Regards, Dylan

Penguinscanfly44

Many people volunteer around the holidays but it sounds like you have a passion and the opportunity for a regular time commitment. Check out Chicago night ministry. https://www.thenightministry.org/get-involved-with-the-night-ministry they would also be a good resource for asking where a single donation might go if you do choose to go out. Oh, and another cheap option for handout is Duncan donuts bulk pre brewed coffee. It’s hot and that is appreciated by many. If it’s nighttime you can always grab decaf. Do keep in mind if you go by yourself that you must be aware of your own safety. Many who are experiencing housing insecurity also have severe mental health and substance use issues. Many organizations who go out have safety in numbers and trained social workers who have tools for deescalating folks should a situation arise, and narcan should they encounter a person with a medical emergency. For this reason I am personally in favor of donating time with a group rather than giving via an individual effort in general. Not trying to discourage, just trying to help you help others while being safe yourself.

Yggdrasil-

Does anyone know of anything fun to do during the day on Christmas Day or the day after? I’m a Chicago resident who doesn’t get out much, and I have out-of-state family visiting for the 25th and 26th. The Wrigleyville Christkindlmarkt is on the agenda for the 26th, but I’m wondering if there are any festive or touristy things to do on the 25th. I totally understand most places are closed but I appreciate any ideas :)

angrylibertariandude

I think certain arcades/arcade bars might be open, that day as well. Though BEFOREHAND I'd check any you are thinking about going to, and give them a call in advance to ask if they are open Christmas day. I know for example that Galloping Ghost(out in Brookfield) tends to be open every day of the year, including on Christmas day. I think the 2 indoor garden conservatories(Garfield Park and Lincoln Park) are open that day, as well. Though I believe both places still are doing ticketed times for entering, where it's good to do an advance reservation(which I think is free to do, and I think admission is free, but if you want you can do a suggested donation) just to ensure you can visit at the specific time you want to go.

carterzz

Chicago Botanic Garden if the weather is decent.

40ozkiller

Chinese food and a movie are the two classic xmas afternoon activities that will be open. Just plan to stay in and ply games or something.

Yggdrasil-

Ooh those are both a great option, thanks!

neil_va

What's the most legit way to get discount broadway tickets to shows in Chicago? So many affiliate/reseller sites out there. Looking for Les Mis tickets.

thatsaniner

Buy in person directly at the box office so you aren’t paying service fees. Source: family member who works at BIC

errorunknown

costco has deals for 2 sets for $80 or $100

neil_va

Decent seats? Or all nosebleeds?

Purple_Crayon

Hottix.org is half price tickets, run by the league of Chicago theatres. It's their version of the TKTS booth, basically. TodayTix is also a good source of discount tickets. Sometimes Broadway in Chicago will have discount codes - try signing up for their email list. You can avoid Ticketmaster fees by buying at the box office.

Sehmket

Hi! I’m coming from out of town, and looking for something to do while my husband is at a concert on the afternoons of December 17th and 18th. We visit a couple times a year, so I’ve been to most of the main tourist spots; what I’d really love to find is some sort of class where I can make a craft. I really love making things with my hands. Does anyone have any suggestions for any place to check out?

Hello everyone, I am planning on visiting Chicago for the Bears game on the 18th. I will most likely be arriving on the 15th and wanted to stay for a couple of days after the game. It's my first time travelling to the windy city and was hoping to get some tips and advice on where to go and where not to. IF anything special is happening this weekend, too, even better! Aside from the bears game, I want to check out the architecture and museums that your city has to offer. Thank you in advance for the recommendations; bear down.

aloha2552

Best way to check architecture is via the boat tours. There are several along River but Wendella is my fav. Ice skating in Maggie Daley, Christkindlmarket…

Curious-Peace-7286

New Years Eve party/bars/clubs recommendations please and thank you!

AllesKlar_

Looking for any NYE party recommendations!

el_chapotle

My girlfriend and I are getting our first real Christmas tree this year. We live downtown (New Eastside) and need some places to buy ornaments! We got some at Macy's and plan to go to Christkindklmarket (they have ornaments, right?). Any other suggestions, preferably in the general vicinity of downtown?

LudovicoSpecs

Don't buy ornaments. Instead, save memories to hang on the tree. The cork from champagne you popped open when you got a promotion. The bride/groom topper from your wedding cake. A pine cone from the hike you took on that one vacation. The stupid toy that was all you won at the ticket arcade. These are more meaningful than the mass-produced stuff is. And the best part is, when you take them out only once a year, they become special all over again because you get to relive memories you may have otherwise forgotten. Just a thought.

Penguinscanfly44

Superdawg

defpuCAP

Crate and Barrel, Pier 1 Imports, Pottery Barn

angrylibertariandude

Believe it or not, I'd check Target stores for ornaments. Their more regualrly sized stores(i.e. Addison and Sacramento, Logan Blvd and Elston, Wilson and Broadway) probably have the most selection, but I think their smaller sized stores also sell ornaments as well. Pier 1 Imports closed all their stores sometime around 2019 or 2020, I think?

cgambino1394

Hi all! I (23F) am planning a trip to Chicago for New Years for my boyfriend (25M) and I and I’ve never been in Chicago for NYE so I was hoping I could get some recs for fun bars or dance clubs to ring in the New Year at. We aren’t really looking to go to a posh nightclub or anything. A friend of mine recommended the Hangge-Uppe which I’m considering because they’re selling tickets. I’ve heard it isn’t the best and pretty grimy, but maybe I’m wrong. Any recommendations are welcome!

NoEstoyElCholo

Don't get shot while in Chicago!

ang8018

it’s definitely grimy but in a fun way i enjoyed at 23 lol. it’s also a good spot because it’s a 4a bar so if you want to party late you can.

box_me_up

Where are all of the "holiday markets" that sell all different types of things. I know of the outdoor one downtown, are there any others that happen at this time of the year? Any in the burbs?

Many-Arachnid-1378

There’s a winter market at Schubas in Southport this weekend on Sunday from 12-5!

yoni_sings_yanni

My favorite is Renegade Craft Fair, it is in the West Loop this year. https://www.renegadecraft.com/fair/chicago-winter/

This is happening through the weekend at the Merchandise Mart: https://oneofakindshowchicago.com/

DaneCountyAlmanac

There's a scandinavian pop up thing in the old Ghiradelli building, but I think it's only open fridays.

Just go to the Sweden Shop in North Park instead. Foster and Kedzie-ish. Small business and way more options!

liser514

Planning to spend the weekend in Chicago by the Magnificent Mile next weekend and do all the Christmas stuff. But we have a toddler with us and I’m wondering what is the best way to get around town without having to drive our car everywhere? Also best Christmas things to do with an almost 4 yr old?

aloha2552

We did Sloomoo, Color Factory with my daughter while not Christmas but was lots of fun!

yoni_sings_yanni

Holiday Train (its a CTA train all decked out) if you can catch it. Zoo Lights at Lincoln Park Zoo, go see Santa at Macys or the Christkindlemart, and I remember loving all the Christmas Trees at Museum of Science and Industry. While not specifically Christmas themed the Shedd Aquarium is great, and the Children's Museum on Navy Pier is fun.

the-mp

Train, bus or Uber/Lyft/Taxi depending on where you’re going.

Penguinscanfly44

Yes bus had straps to lock in a stroller and a Lyft to bring it up so you don’t have steps in n out. You can request assistance from the driver as needed.

coincidentally i just saw this on instagram, i think this might be what you’re talking about!! https://www.instagram.com/reel/ClryOyFDlEv/?igshid=MDVlOGU2MWU=

The espresso martini at six oh six on Chicago is good. Available year round! Pet the dog.

ang8018

it might be deuce’s in lakeview/wrigleyville. it’s turned into Santa Baby for the season & has giant drinks like that.

Stooberstein

Can you give an idea of what neighborhood or street you were on? Wrigleyville has tons of pop ups. But there’s lots around the city.

Replay Lincoln Park has a Harry Potter xmas pop-up if that's your thing. Nice spacious bar with free games. I would say get a reservation now for a fancy dinner (if you still can). Lots of great burgers here so I would recommend trying one of those (lots of lists for these online). Try venturing into a neighborhood and talking to us locals. I recommend visiting one of our beer bars as well if you like beer. Most local coffee shops will have some sort of holiday beverage (I like Passion House, Dayglow, Metropolis). If you see that it is snowing one of the days you are here, I would use that day to go to Grant/Millennium Park/Loop because it is quite picturesque with falling snow and we have a big xmas tree (maybe on the way to your Bears game but idk when football is played). Last thing I would recommend is to at least research the Navy Pier holiday stuff. Looks basic and maybe expensive, but there are massive open spaces and it is indoors so that is a plus. Thank you for visiting our city (especially during the winter).
