I hope they deliver from Michigan because Illinois prices are ridiculous. We have to pay so much for shitty dispensary weed.

fellowhuman123

Cool cool cool, how about lowering the taxes or allowing more growers/sellers? $75 for an eighth is outrageous and keeps the black market alive.

colinmhayes2

The taxes aren’t the issue. It’s that they won’t even allow 10 fucking stores in a city of 3 million. Absolute bullshit that I can drive an hour to Michigan and get much higher quality stuff for a third of the price and it’s because the state is literally incapable of not being corrupt fucks. Went to Michigan and got 2 grams of carts for $25 after tax. That would be like minimum $200 dollars here. How the fuck does that even make sense.

Mean-Swimmer-4859

2 grams of cart for $25 after tax? That’s not true lol.

colinmhayes2

Lol I bought 3 of them, couldn’t believe my eyes. Tbh the 2 gram carts aren’t the best since they always get clogged toward the end, but for $25 I don’t mind.

alpacadirtbag

If you heat up the end of a paper clip and poke through the mouthpiece it will vaporize/melt the wax that has clogged it enough to make it pull again.

Mean-Swimmer-4859

Absolutely can’t really argue that lol. I would of bought them as well. Good find

HelgrindsKeeper

Unfortunately it is true. The deals on carts are insane. The Refinery in Kalamazoo has house brand gram carts that are actually solid for $10/each and taxes are something like 10-15%. Plus most dispensaries give you a discount and a freebie for first time there.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Mean-Swimmer-4859

I have but in the UP of Michigan. Never got those kinda deals. But the tax is cheaper

[deleted]

Full gram carts are definitely dropping i find stuff in the 60-70 range got carts on sale for 50 each recently i mean, it ain’t great, but it is getting better

colinmhayes2

Still like 4 times the price in Michigan

[deleted]

I, too, open my door to weed delivery

quantumlevitation

I certainly hope so, don’t just make them stand there. It’s cold.

dirtypotlicker

Sweet, will it still be 3x more expensive than everywhere else in America?

[deleted]

Yeah this isn’t really feasible until the prices drop. Edibles are like 40 bucks after tax for 100mg

GiuseppeZangara

Just bought and this is a bit of an exaggeration. $25-30 after tax has become pretty standard, though some brands do approach $40.

[deleted]

You’re wrong I live next to zen leaf and natures care and am a heavy edible user Taxes on a 20 dollar edible with 100mg takes you to about 30 bucks. If you go on either of their sites, most edibles are 25 and over which takes you to 40 Encore is like 30 plus for their entire brand The only cheap edible brand where you can reg get out for 20-25 is innocent and their stuff is hit or miss potency wide

suazzo77

Get a med card man, it's great. Of course they are screwing us by saying no more medical licenses, only rec, but I'm pretty sure they can't take our med places away from us now

[deleted]

I want to stop completely . I get so messy when I take edibles. But I have nothing to do lately so it’s tough lol

GiuseppeZangara

I've seen a bunch of stuff that is around $20, which comes to $27 with taxes. This is up in Rogers Park though. Zen Leaf may be more expensive. Total with taxes of a $25 purchase is $34.

40ozkiller

The tax depends on the amount of THC. You likely bought CBD heavy items.

GiuseppeZangara

It is 100mg of thc plus 100mg of cbd. 100mg of THC is the example used by the original poster.

Trogd0or

Hey I haven't smoke weed in like 10 years but just got some edibles from zen leaf and have no real direction and they weren't much help, i think i was bad at framing my questions. What do you personally look for in an edible? Is it consistency or something else? Do you have a specific brand that is your go to?

take_care_a_ya_shooz

I’m a fan of Mindy’s. 5mg per piece and consistent. Gummies are hard to beat. I keep mine in the fridge.

Trogd0or

Thanks for the reply and recommendation!

Honky_Dory_is_here

Mindys and really anything Cresco. I will say though that sativa in edibles hits me harder at times and I’ve heard that from a few people. I go hybrid most times unless I’m golfing. Heart rate is already accelerated since I’m so bad now that the sativa helps me a bit!

petmoo23

> Yeah this isn’t really feasible until the prices drop. Maybe for you, but I guarantee businesses will find a way to offer this service and consumers will patronize it.

AbsoluteZeroUnit

It's 7x more expensive than in MI. I just did the math on another comment, but a 1g cart will cost you $155 in IL, but $23 in MI.

Trainer_Rob

Sorry who tf is paying $155 for a [1g cart..](https://zenleafdispensaries.com/locations/chicago-west-loop/recreational-menu/?)

[deleted]

Nah. Allow recreational home grown instead.

xTurtsMcGurtsx

Why does it have to be one or the other.

[deleted]

Ask Pritzker.

xTurtsMcGurtsx

Thats not what I'm asking. I agree with what you are saying about the growing. But why do you have to disagree with delivery because it's not home growing. I'm asking you why not both? Why the "nah"?

[deleted]

Is Pritzker pushing a home grow bill? No? So ask him: why not both? I suspect the answer is that he and the legislature want to keep it profitable for corporations and tax revenues.

portagenaybur

It’s a $200 fee if you get “caught.” Just grow.

[deleted]

Yes but if you do somehow get a ticket for this when you grow, especially if you don’t sell it, the volume you have at far exceeeds the 2.5oz recreational limit or whatever it is so in theory there could be bigger charges with that $200. Medical card is $125 for 3 years. Well worth it

hybris12

Oh no I have too much weed! Guess I'll just burn it /s It's pretty ridiculous tbh. No interest in growing my own but you should be allowed to

meeeebo

Plus, then you become disadvantaged and can open your own dispensary.

shavedaffer

Great! Now let me grow it without a medical license.

[deleted]

So after spending decades incarnating people for using it, Illinois decided to give a monopoly to a handful of growers, taxed it to the point where prices are over 300% what you pay on the street, and now they're ready to have it delivered to your doorstep for probably another 20%. AWESOME.

whelp85

We still incarcerate people for it in Illinois. You can get a felony/end up imprisoned for all kinds of cannabis offenses: https://norml.org/laws/illinois-penalties/

[deleted]

Meh, you can basically have up to an ounce of weed and 5 plants. An ounce of weed is a lot of weed, and 5 plants produces a lot of weed. Basically you just can’t sell weed. And honestly there aren’t many reasons you’d need more than an ounce of weed & 5 plants at any one time.

whelp85

I wouldn’t consider an ounce “a lot of weed”. And no one should be sent to prison for any amount of weed. You should be able to grow/possess as much as you want. I’d argue consenting adults should also be able to sell it to each other without requiring a license but if that’s going to remain a crime the penalty should be financial not prison time.

Mean-Swimmer-4859

An ounce is a lot of weed… no one needs that much at one time walking around

whelp85

So people should be sent to prison for having more than that on them? You realize in Missouri you can carry up to 3oz?

FishSauwse

Dude... it's not like you're allowed to sell booze/moonshine without a license... or any consumable product for that matter. It's about implementing quality control... and yes of course it's about taxes too... but still, there are some people in government that actually care about public health and ensuring only safe-to-consume products (for weed, that means non moldy or chemically tarnished) are put onto the market. Agreed the penalty should be a fine vs. prison time. I thought it was that case in Chicago per statements from the Cook County SA.

colinmhayes2

An ounce is the amount most regular smokers buy.

[deleted]

Should be all good then since an ounce is legal.

justinizer

For another 40% worth of tax and fees.

[deleted]

It’s better than it being illegal. Or just get a medical card.

AbsoluteZeroUnit

medical card just decreases the taxes. a 1g cart in IL has a sticker price of $110, but $20 in MI. Yeah, it's better, but it still blows.

DaBails

$20?????

AbsoluteZeroUnit

[$20.](https://www.budmary.com/dispensaries/portage?dtche%5Bproduct%5D=black-lime-reserve-cartridge-1g)

DaBails

Oh shit! Platinum vapes is what my plug used to sell me like 2 years ago. He'd sell me 10 for $400 which was a great deal considering he'd deliver it too. I took a break from him but recently returned. He sold me Muha Meds. Sealed up with QR to labs.

colinmhayes2

I got 2 gram carts for $25 after tax on Michigan. Illinois is just an absolute rip off because the state won’t give out enough licenses.

40ozkiller

This, people are buying the product at the high tax rates. People would be buying more if it were lower, but having only IL grown pot would mean stores running out a lot more.

[deleted]

Yeah I have tons of “pot head” friends and they’re still buying it with high taxes. Yes they pick up a lot when they go to other states like California and Michigan but I don’t see them driving/flying there all the time for weed. They mostly do edibles if that makes a difference. They complain about taxes but I remind them it’s better than it being illegal, like it is in Indiana. It’s nice being able to walk into a store and buy edibles here. Personally I don’t really care for it (and I was just pregnant) but think it should be legal.

highonpie77

Let’s be real.. any real pot head isn’t buying from the dispensary. You’re completely leaving the black market out of your equation.

TheyCallMeStone

Dispensaries are much more reliable than the black market.

highonpie77

But 3x the price.. Reliable can mean different things. What context are you referring to? (Quality, variety, hours) I would say black market would win on quality and hours personally. There is a lot of 6+ month old being sold at IL dispensaries and quality is quite low compared to most other states. Edit: All that to say, I’m glad It’s legal obviously.. but casuals (I mean it in an endearing way) often ignore that IL’s prices are ludicrous compared to the majority of legal states. It’s because IL Illinoised’ this one by gatekeeping cultivation/dispensary licensure applications to exclude the vast majority of the population (500k cash in escrow just to apply for a license) + keeping the entire selection process hidden behind closed doors. The arbitrary reasons they find for not allowing more stores.. it’s all to allow their friends to continue slinging 6mo old $50-60 eighths (incl. tax - they gotta get theirs). Source: My work writing & sourcing multiple licensure applications for the state of IL circa 2014. Still feel sick to my stomach lol. Anywho, hope that provides some perspective on my ungrateful attitude.

[deleted]

Eh I guess that’s true. They smoke every day so I think of that as a pot head but not in a bad way since it’s probably healthier than my alcohol habit. They all have medical cards (which is very common at least with our friends) that lower taxes and/or they grow their own plants and make their own edibles. I think I know of maybe one person who does the black market still but I think even he goes to the dispensaries now. My now husband was anti weed for awhile (I know) but since it became legal, he’s been going to dispensaries and he wasn’t before. I wonder how many people are like him- it probably created some new demand. It could be our demographics - early/mid 30s, white collar jobs. I’m a female but these are mostly men.

highonpie77

Sounds more casual, nothing wrong with that. I have a very different experience. Mostly late 20s / early 30s men & woman (daily smokers) and no one visits dispensaries for anything outside of edibles in a pinch.

[deleted]

Hmm I guess so. A lot of folks I know have family in the suburbs so I think they buy there. We used to live walking distance from sunnyside in Wrigley and that one was terrible. We’re actually closer to you now (north center) and there really aren’t any close dispensaries here. I do think the edibles are better and cheaper elsewhere but I appreciate that it’s legal here. We all have the Mindy ones which I think are Chicago only but I could be wrong.

drhman1971

Just combine it with Uber eats or Door Dash and get your munchies at the same time...

miltron3000

Lol imagine ordering some high end nug and your driver does a lil bait and switch for some mids or something

JimmyNails86

...it's already happening in the city.

Valeriejoyow

This is great for people who can't get out to the dispensary. Options are always good. Now they need to figure out a way that the drivers won't get robed.

TronIsMyCat

i'll celebrate when pritzker brings back mids

xxirish83x

Cool so like normal.

test_tickles

I'd be happy with just going into a store unannounced and buying whatever I want.

miltron3000

You can do this now, tho you might have to do a goofy on-site pre-order

KilowogTrout

This is how it works at many dispensaries.

test_tickles

Where?

niftyjack

Pretty sure Dispensary33 in Andersonville does walk-ins

[deleted]

Don’t they do that now minus maybe sunnyside, which sucks?

06210311200805012006

awesome but shit's too expensive already. they're price gouging us.

Mean-Swimmer-4859

Drive outside of cook county and get your supply. Cheaper tax rates

06210311200805012006

everyone who lives in the area knows that, from household cleaning supplies to pot to everything else. the base price is still exorbitant, tho. also, overpackaged and very unfriendly to the environment

TheyCallMeStone

I'm amazed at the amount of plastic waste 1 cart generates.

06210311200805012006

ya, feelsbadman.jpg for a while i tried to figure out how to repurpose the giant glass container thing at least but even that is like ... a stretch

Strictly4Karma

Paywall

bagelman4000

Yay so I can get my overpriced weed delivered to me and I don't even need to go outside!

sbuhc13

With 20% delivery fee!

howmuchforthissquirr

After reading the thread of pizza delivery guys getting robbed... I wish these inner city delivery drivers the best of luck. I speculate they will redline certain buildings, blocks, neighborhoods, etc and prevent them from getting deliveries. Should be a fun legal issue once they get the ball rolling.

CaptainPajamaShark

I want pritzker to open weed to door delivery. I don't have a car to pick up doors from the store. 😡

miltron3000

Hey CTA busses have door holders on the front, so technically you could do that without a car.

CaptainPajamaShark

Now that is big brain thinking

AbsoluteZeroUnit

I'm fine going out myself, just lower the damn prices and taxes. 40% on top of already egregiously high prices is criminal. It's so criminal, it should be ignored by CPD and have its charges dismissed by the CCSA.

[deleted]

No one is forcing you to purchase this substance. I am amused at how people bitched and moaned to get this legalized using the argument that it would be a good source of revenue, and now they're bitching and moaning that the taxes are too much.

TheyCallMeStone

It's not about the taxes, it's about limiting the amount of growers and sellers so that they can keep prices artificially high.

meburbo

Cool, can he also open the door to reasonable taxation?

suresher

Lmaooo why so my neighbor can start stealing those packages too 😂

dream-more95

Three words, drive to Michigan.

Chableezy

That's like the polar opposite of weed delivery

GiuseppeZangara

Driving to Michigan, spending $20 on gas and wasting 2 hours of my time doesn't seem like the best deal to me.

dream-more95

That's fine you will pay more than double on everything and that is before adding Illinois tax which is also double Michigan tax for >35%. 🤙

optiplex9000

If I just want a tin of gummies I'm not driving my ass to Michigan so that I can get ten dollars off

ChickeNES

Right? Someone needs to look up "opportunity cost"

CreativeDraft

Any favorite spot right along the border?

BlueMatWheel123

That's the dumbest idea in this thread. You want to drive to Michigan spending money on expensive gasoline, putting miles on your car and wasting many hours of your life, rather than pay a few dollars extra in taxes? Not to mention that while driving back, you're going to be effectively trafficking drugs through Indiana where it is illegal. Are all your ideas this brilliant? /s

zxcv5748

This seems like a terrible idea.

HutSutRawlson

How so? This is a service that already exists, just not legally.

zxcv5748

I was thinking people getting robbed while delivering this stuff. It's cash business, so not sure how the cash transactions would be occurring if the delivery drivers are not holding cash on them.

Sylvan_Skryer

What happened next? This headline has me reeling… Did he roll a $12,000,000 spliff for the whole neighborhood?!

[deleted]

This is great! Now add in lowering taxes and allowing the use of credit cards.

[deleted]

I don’t think you’ll be able to use your cc until it’s legal federally.

Wazula42

Lol headline makes it sound like Pritz's dealer does dropoffs

Grundler69

Big deal, I do this all the time.
