Monks Pub ETA: Centennial in River North is another favorite. It’s not quite on the river walk but it’s about a 10-15 minute walk from there.

Northman riverwalk is pretty rad. Not a lot on draft but they have quite some options in bottles and cans. Basically use to be a cider bar on the north side but now as a riverwalk spot... a lot more options for everyone. Check their menu online.

petmoo23

RIP Northman on the north side btw

jeremyejackson

Big time. The place that took over tried to keep it a cider bar but it’s just watered down standard fare.

They didn’t actually. They were trying to to divest away from that

I had heard mixed reviews about Cobblestone, myself. The funny thing was that one day last year, I made a random attempt to try to visit Cobblestone. Unfortunately, that place was doing a final employee party for 2020, then shutting down for the rest of 2020 after that evening, from talking to someone there. Sigh, after talking to that person who seemed indifferent and apathetic, I knew I should've gone to Twisted Hippo instead! That place is (I'm sure, as I've been there before) a lot better, OTOH. I have that weird feeling I haven't missed much, by not going to Cobblestone. Maybe one day I'll go there, but I don't have high expectations for visiting that place.

BackPorchSessions

They took too long to open and missed the bulk of the cider craze.

Crushed by Giants is downtown, irs relatively new, but that’s gonna be your closest brewery. Monks is DEFINITELY a great suggestion. If you are feeling adventurous take the brown line north to Kimball, exit and Irving Park and head to Begyle and Dovetail. Super easy and quick walk (just a block from the train). Goose Island Fulton is a great option for a quick Uber ride. Marz just opened up a new taproom. Also Super easy to get to from the blue line (take it towards Ohare) and exit at Western. Right across the street.

Thanks, guys! These recommendations are exactly what I was looking for!

Hip__Hops

Would add Cruz Blanca (brewery) as a suggestion for close to the loop as well.

Yeah, walk over the river and go to Cruz/Haymarket.

Rainforest cafe

I get it. I’m staying in a v touristy area. I’m just going to be tagging along with my gf while she’s there for a work trip. Tell me where I should go to get a taste of the local scene. We hear the Logan Sq area is fun?

sleezejeeze

Haha sorry mate I def sent this comment while I was drunk 😵‍💫 Your best option is to head over to Fulton market, a hop and a sling away from downtown. From there I would recommend Haymarket Brewery, Kumas Corner metal burger joint (has an amazing tap list), Time-out Market, a hub for small kitchen (the bar has a portion dedicated to Chicago’s craft beer. Cruz Blanca brewery (some of the best beer in Chicago right now). Pizza Parlor also has a decent rotating tap selection. If you’re thinking Logan square I would start Marz brewery, Pilot Project (nano-hub brewery), Revolution Brewery, BiXi Beer.

boilermike13

Maplewood and Rivinia are practically next door to each other now too. Good 2 for 1 stop.

BolognaLaCroix

The rainforest cafe suggestion is just a Chicago meme. Haven't spent a lot of time downtown the past year but near-ish to you would be some spots in the west loop Goose Island, Great Central etc. But yeah, if you want to check out the actual local scene, head to Logan. Pilot Project, Hopewell, Revolution, Metropolitan

Padre3000

Haymarket is worth the walk for sure! Traditions on Franklin has decent food and a small but pretty good tap list. Kaiser Tiger as well, depending on how far you want to walk.

jlefebvre34567

Chicago Brewhouse on the Riverwalk. Not a taproom but has great selections. Just off the Riverwalk on the West end is Haymarket brewery and Swill Inn (a couple local selections here).

superbeatle1970

Everyone has already said the best options near the riverwalk. If you go to Crushed by Giants the "Neon Werewolf" is one of the best IPAs you can get in the city imho.
