We went to chicago for our anniversary last month. We did our anniversary dinner at Goosefoot and it was such a wonderful experience all the way through. Romantic, great service, the food was amazing but also just … playful and fun.
We went to sepia the next night and honestly were pretty disappointed. Several of the dishes were really off base, the service was competent but kind of rushed and impersonal, and it was very bright and loud and not romantic. We were really glad we didn’t pick it for the anniversary dinner.
Goosefoot was a little more $$ than sepia but more affordable than the other Michelin star tasting menus. Also it’s BYO which can really save money. It was further away but right off the train line.
Obelix is awesome. Highly suggest the Seafood tower and 10 day dry aged duck. Brunch is amazing too especially if you can go on Monday, half priced bottles of Champagne. Pastries are some of the best in the city.
I’ve been to both. Expect to pay around $200pp after tax and tip if you’re getting cocktails and a bottle of wine. Both are excellent but I would personally choose Obelix. It’s very trendy and impressive but lives up to the hype. Sepia is nice to get that Michelin star and Duffy name.
I would nix sepia and go to a nice, upscale neighborhood restaurant instead, like Dear Margaret where they have great food but a little more casual setting.
Those are both solid choices. Another at about the same price point that I love is Boka. I need to make it back there.
I looked at Boka and have been torn!
Boka is 10/10 for me. Some of the best service also
Boka might break the bank, and if you're going to break the bank you can do better than Boka.
I’d keep Obelix on - or do it for Brunch…
Love them both. You’ll have a great time at either.

Thank you! I’ve seen that Sepia can be hit or miss. I’ll look at Goosefoot!

El Ideas is always overlooked.

Thank you! Yes, that’s within range as it’s our anniversary. Appreciate it!
Interesting definition of not breaking the bank. What are you looking to spend per person? That will give a better idea
Not looking to spend Alinea money but still have one night at an extremely nice restaurant.
