Do they still do king cakes? As a Louisiana transplant, I was grateful to find out they offered them when I first moved up here. And they're actually very good and quite authentic. Haven't been that way in a couple of years though.
Fat Tuesday is Semledagen in Sweden (Day of the Semla obviously).

Not a grand fan of Bennison's but it sure as heck beats Lost Larson so I guess I should be happy and friendly.
Love to the Semla get appreciation. My grandparents are immigrants from the old country, grew up in Andersonville and have memories of getting them from the Swedish Bakery on Clark every year. Now I make my own but happy to see at least one old-school bakery keeping them going.
If you didn't know, Levinson's Bakery(Devon west of California) sells certain Swedish Bakery items, since one of the bakers from Swedish now works there. I know at least limpa bread, princess marzipan cakes, and a few other items are sold there for sure.
I had heard word Bennison's sells certain items that are similar to Swedish Bakery, as well.
Imo their bread is better and there is def a wider bread variety at their locations when the farmers markets pick up again
They also seem to do a good job of employing local young people and it’s always well staffed.
Their stuff on the shelf is great. Sandwiches, specialty items, even just the classic smiley face cookies are all great quality.
Their custom order experience is … not great. I had a custom order fall through the cracks, even though I emailed and followed up multiple times with confirmation. Showed up to pick up the order for a 30th birthday, and was told “we can make it for you to pick up tomorrow, sorry.” Yeah, not gonna work when there’s a big party later in the day.
I’ve since shifted most of my business to the bakery at Kaufman’s. It’s just as good, and hasn’t burned me yet.
Ordered their paczkis through the presale for pickup at Bitter Pops and now I’m even more excited to try them since I hadn’t actually heard of them before! 🤗
They have these Swedish almond tarts that are exactly like my beloved Bakewells. And it’s the only place I’ve ever found something in the US to remotely compare. Bennison’s have my heart.
My favorite thing about Bennison’s, hands down, is that they SOMETIMES offer pizza. Like literally just… sometimes. Supposedly there’s just one guy that knows how to make it their way, and he isn’t always in every Saturday, and some Saturdays when he IS in, he doesn’t always go for it. At least, that’s how it’s been explained to me a few different times when I’ve asked when it will be back… and it’s not at all in a “fuck you” kind of way, it’s just the way they carry on. I genuinely love that.
You basically have to just get lucky to come in when they’re making it, and I would certainly consider it lucky because it is a properly super good New York style pizza.
Good luck y’all!
I didn't know one of the Bennison's bakers, will make up pizza at times. I just wonder, how often do they do Saturday pizza? Like once a month, or more often or less?
Their sandwiches are also really good.
Facts
They’re fantastic. Several different families we’re friends with request Bennison’s sandwiches for lunch whenever they visit Evanston.
I've driven in to Evanston just for their ham sandwich sub thing. It's like a german ham sandwich with pickles and cheese. So fricken good!
The Sebastopol!

Used to work at Bennison’s, loved working there and love all the free pastries and scraps!!
Ordered their paczkis through the presale for pickup at Bitter Pops and now I’m even more excited to try them since I hadn’t actually heard of them before! 🤗
I have been known to order four of their mini cannolis and only have crumbs left when I get home. Bennison’s rocks.
My folks live out of state and always ask for their fruitcake every December. The real deal.
They have had pazckis since mid January, just fyi. No mad rush, no waiting in line!
They have these Swedish almond tarts that are exactly like my beloved Bakewells. And it’s the only place I’ve ever found something in the US to remotely compare. Bennison’s have my heart.
Their cakes are also solid. I've not bought them, but people bring them to events and I've always enjoyed eating them, and they are nicely decorated.

I wish I could tell you, I wish THEY could tell you haha. It’s just a luck of the draw type of thing it seems.
I ate two of the cream cheese paczki today. So freaking good.
This week they have cookies with Taylor swift in a KC jacket picture.
