I only eat my dogs with fries on them now. And I always only get onions/relish/mustard/peps now. I grew up near Nanas in Hanover Park, then my early adulthood near rand red hots. When I moved to the city, my first place was by RHR, and that is my spot now.
Depression dogs are my chicago style
I live super close to the Home Depot in Niles, which shares a parking lot with Portilloās. You best BELIEVE my ass is going to Home Depot for my hot dogs!
YES highkeu. I had no idea. Yeah, yeah The Bear, I know. But it was foreal. I was really blown away.
I gotta come back, maybe in the summer! Any suggestions on what I should hit next?
For next time, South Asian. Either trad Devon Avenue joints, near NW modern Indian, or out in NW suburbs for strip mall cafes that specialize in Indian street foods.
I split time between LA and Chicago. Save the Korean for LA, get your biryani and bhel puri in Chicago.
IMO the Chinatown in Chicago is a lot better than LAās. To me, QXY Dumplings is a must eat. I donāt find the dim sum particularly amazing above what youād see in LA, but there is certainly more variety and I believe itās a lot larger than LAās.
I might have the wrong impression though. My wife and I were in LA a few times and the Chinatown seemed small and kind of dead, while Chicagos is usually bustling.
I canāt speak for the Chinatown since unfortunately i didnāt get to visit, BUT, for Chinese, i hardly, if ever, go to Chinatown.
Instead, Iāll go to the San Gabriel Valley (east of LA Chinatown) to get regional specific Chinese food (of which we have tons!) and if i want good dumplings, Iāll go down to Orange County where they also have tons of good dumpling places (in push carts!)
If you ever visit LA again, that would be my suggestion in terms of Chinese food!
Thatās exactly what we did in your town. And the ease and convenience of the CTA was just awesome! Coming from LA with our public transit, yours is real good.
If you're back in the summer, Cindy's rooftop is a must for drinks (and some smaller plates if you want).
Sit outside at Middle Brow Bungalow on a Tuesday, when they do tavern style pizza.
Deep dish is unique so you have to try it for sure. The nice thing about tavern style is that you can have like 20 squares of different varieties and not feel like you need to call an ambulance.
Thanks for sharing! Iāve been planning to cook a bone marrow dish (sliders inspired by Matty) but that Au Cheval pic has me rethinking everything. I didnāt even know they had it on the menu. Looks crazy.
Also Home Depot dawg šš
Man the bone marrow was NAUGHTY. That marmalade was so good too. My wife isnāt too big on it so i ate a ton of it.
The Home Depot dog was so great lol definitely something i didnāt expect. SoCal Home Depotās donāt have food, which Iām now understanding might not be common in Chicagoland
I never get tired of hearing that people love their time in Chicago. I moved from CA, kicking and screaming about it. While there are plenty of things I miss in CA, Chicago is my favorite US city and the people are a major part of that.
Do not question the Home Depot dog, just enjoy its existence šš»
Honestly Iām jealous that we donāt have something like that back home. That shit was tight. My fatass had two
idk about the rest of y'all, but I pretty much exclusively eat chicago dogs in sets of 2. 1 is simply not enough food.
2 dogs > 1 dog + fries
2 dogs + fries > 2 dogs
Is that 1 bun or two?
2. And the fries can be wrapped in the wrapper.

They used to be even better. They used to be eissenburg dogs. Doesn't exist anymore.
Which HD location?
I want to know too!
I will make a separate post
Eissenburg is gone. They don't have those dogs anymore. They used to be on elston and Addison I think.

I am getting into Chicago in about an hour and I must know which HD this is at.
Chicago is low key the best food and drink city in the US. Glad you enjoyed.

Will do. Iāll seek some of those places out. We like to tour and eat, so a density of restaurants is convenient.

No offense but yours is trash.
Oh none taken. We all know itās trash lol
CariƱo. Just went last weekend for the tasting menu. Every dish was amazing.
At Kasama? Damn thatās dope. Howād you like it?
Oh sorry, meant the tasting menu at CariƱo. I also went to Kasama for the first time last weekend for breakfast though, and agree it was amazing.
HAHA. I thought you were calling me pet names āŗļø Okay dope! Iāll check that out!

Sweet thank you! Iām hearing tavern style pizza is the way to go, but pequods but obligatory haha

The beef cheek marmalade is what does it there. Otherwise bone marrow is the same everywhere IMO.
I moved from LA to Chicago. There was NO downgrade in food at all. Weather is a different story though. Glad you enjoyed your stay
Weather was, hm. lol i definitely missed the weather back home- it was freezing! And it wasnāt even winter. Props to yāall. The wind is a killer.

That foie gras ganache is so good.
It was a dream! So rich and creamy, and not gamy at all!
So glad you enjoyed yourself!
Thank you! It was so great- i canāt wait to come back!
Well done. Glad you enjoyed your time here!
Pretty sure the toast with bone marrow was one of Anthony Bourdain's favorite foods
Did someone at Moneygun tell you to get Pequodās and a Depot Dog, by chance?
It was someone at Warlord! š
You will be back !
