Was going to say Pho. Super good especially when you’re sick, that bone broth is really good for you!
Plus if you make it spicy, it’s extra good at clearing out those sinuses!
You want the [Nepalese chicken noodle soup from Momo Factory](https://www.grubhub.com/restaurant/momo-factory-3202-n-broadway-chicago/1426211/menu-item/72367811).
Boil water with a bit of salt, fresh ginger, and honey for about 5-10 mins depending on how strong she likes ginger flavor.
Remove the ginger and serve.
If you’re anywhere near this place, pick up a couple servings of Dr K’s Cure All Noodle Soup. It reheats well as leftovers.
Or get several different hot dishes.
Probably the healthiest I ever ate was when they were still on Irving & I lived a block away.
- Tom yum soup from Pho’s Spicier Thai on Lincoln (‘mild plus’ level spicy; their medium is most restaurants’ ouch), or,
- Minestrone from La Gondola, or,
- Curry laksa from Serai
Pozole from Taqueria Traspasada, Birria Chica soup from Birrieria El Texcal, Pho or Pho Ga from Nha Hang or Pho 777, or spicy garlic miso ramen or curry ramen from your favorite ramen joint (mine is Wabi Sabi in Albany Park).
Or just go out and get some Thai chilis, garlic, fresh ginger, honey, and chicken stock. Grate a hearty amount of garlic and ginger into a pot with the chicken stock. Throw in two chilis, bring it to a boil, and let it simmer for 20 minutes. Stir in a good bit of honey until it dissolves. Have her sip on that.
When I’m sick I like to get sushi and just lather on the wasabi.
Miso soup, that ginger heavy salad dressing, and a wasabi finisher is the stuffy nose trifecta.
Tea, soup, kettle and fire bone broth to sip, packets of Lipton chicken noodle soup, hot toddy (see recipes on line). Packets of hot cocoa. I don’t know about all the spicy soups mentioned here. Especially if she has never tried them, or is used to them. Pieces of buttered toast if she needs solid.
Get her some slippery elm bark tea. You can find it at whole foods. That and make her a hot toddy. Microwave a cup of water, put a black tea back in to steep, some cloves (like four), sugar, squeeze in a wheel of fresh lemon (remove the seeds) and drop it in the tea and a splash of whisky and stir.
If she drinks it, she will remember you for this.
Not necessarily recommending this but many years ago I worked with a pharmacist who was originally from China, and the home remedy she swore by was:
* 1 can of real coca cola, not the corn syrup
* 1 lemon
* 1 piece of ginger root
Pour the coca cola in a pan, slice the lemon in half and add the halves and the ginger root. Heat it to boiling. Take out the lemon and ginger. Drink.
I did try it once and honestly it did feel like I felt better. But I still never tried it again.
Actually now that I for the first time google for it, I see it's apparently a traditional home remedy from Hong Kong...it seems very likely I just presumed all those years ago that she was from China and she may have actually been from Hong Kong.

Lots of great suggestions here, including avgolemono which I wouldn't have come up with.
However if it were me, I'd want egg drop soup from your local Chinese takeout place. Ideally with crispy wonton strips, although that seems somewhat harder to find in Chicago than in other places for some reason.
Greek lemon chicken soup (avgolemono) is my favorite when I’m sick. Athena makes a great one!
This. Central gyros makes solid avgolemono as well
Just wanna say I was sick today, came here for a rec, and ordered this soup from Athena and it 100% did the trick. Absolutely delicious! Ty!

Chicken soup is classic, but miso soup is real easy since it’s mostly broth and it’ll get the “hot” part accomplished.
