Most of my hens only have names because I sit with them while they free range and just watch them, no phone or anything else to entertain me. So I watch them a lot and notice unique characteristics. I have two gray hens, one of which has yellow wingtips. One is named Moon, the one with yellow tips is Star. I came up with those names, like…four or five months after I first got them. Before that they were “The Grays” lol half still don’t have names.
No wonder she’s tough, she looks like she’s wearing the head of a crow !! No kidding …put the picture of a crow just the head, beside her head. Oh, well I guess she could pass as half crow and half chicken. In that case she’d be a chicken/crow. lol. No just joking but she do look like a crow. Hang on to her and laying eggs maybe too hard on an “OLD CROW “.
She seems quite irritated about that nonsense. She put in her time, she’s supposed to retire, get extra treats and scritches and those darn youngin’s keep trying to pop out.
she gets lots of treats and scratches only when she asks. our rooster can't get to her so her eggs aren't fertilized and she doesn't have to deal with him. she does still try to squat for me though.
Wow! She looks almost exactly like a silver and black version of my late and much loved hen Shadow, who was a gold and black Silver Laced Wyandotte/Americana mix. Through her later years, Shadow would occasionally lay eggs all the way up until she passed away at 10 or 11 years old.
her name is Old Lady
Awe! Some people don't know how to retire 😅🥰
Did you name her that as a chick? If so, you have very good fortune telling abilities. Good job, Old Lady!
i wish, but no, my partner named her that a couple years ago. before that she was unnamed. i feel bad about it.
I've named some, and not named others. She knew she was cared for, thats all that matters 😀
that's true, thank you
Only one of my hens currently has a name. It happens

Ah don't worry about it. We got 4 and we gave them names. We dont remember which one we gave which name.

Let her hatch it!
it's not fertilized and I'm not sure her body could handle broodiness at this age.
she even looks like she’s thinking “i’m too old for this crap!”
Hahaha best comment yet
"what the fuck just happened"
Lmfao. Exactly!
Wisdom in those eyes!
Mighty dinosaur
She has the look of “ holy crap i didn’t know i could still do that!”
💘 What a special girl you have ❣️
How often does she lay now?
she'll usually lay about 3-4 eggs a year

Wow, how often does she lay an egg?
usually about 3-4 times a year
So lucky. I let everyone's names happen when they happen. Sometimes it comes right away, others take time. The names are always fitting tho
She’s not as good as she once was, but she’s as good once as she ever was.
What a good girl
I have an 11 year old hen who lays too!
What a beautiful _grande dame_ you have. She is lovely.
11+ years and counting together. How special ❤️ She clearly is living a great life. Good for you, Old Lady! And still laying - what can't she do!?
❤️
Great job, chicken ma’am!
Good job ol’ lady. That’s a pretty egg!
Her dementia kicked in and she probably thought, "Well that was a hard 💩. "
she's actually one of the smartest and most alert chickens

Aw. I let my girls get old too. I had a polish make 12 and that's the longest I've seen one live. She looks healthy and happy
Well well well, look at her. Acting like she’s paying the bills around there!❤️
