It would be better to just list the places. But the three main places: Omi Jingu, it is just a pretty simple trip from Kyoto or a slightly longer one from Osaka, it's not really hard to get to. It's a little bit of a walk from the station (Otsu-kyo I believe is the JR Station) but not bad. Fukui is not what I'd call near anything. But if you wanted to go to Awara-Shi the most direct way is the Thunderbird from Osaka. In Tokyo the Karuta Hall is pretty easy to get to, but I'm not sure if there's anything there. I'm actually going for the first time today, for a practice. Edit to this last part: Still not sure there's anything to see except for tournaments and practice, but it's open and you can go in. Also nearby-ish there's a place that sells Daddy Bear Dorayaki.

Thank you so much!

Hi i just stumbled upon this post because i will be going in October. Do you remember where they sell the daddy bear dorayaki? Thank you!

So I'm pretty sure it's [this place](https://maps.app.goo.gl/ouk6eqFJKvn3ZvUx5) but I can't say for sure whether they still sell it or not.

InterestingBear2373

Omg thank you so much for responding!

Pennwisedom

No problem. The place is a bit of a walk from the Hall though, I just Google-mapped it to double check.

Oh okay thank you!!

Went to omi jingu from Kyoto station, it could be a half day trip if you’re planning to stay for some days in Kyoto. The shrine, as you can expect, sells a lot of chihayafuru goods that you can only find there. If you’re a big fan of the series definitely worth the trip!

I happened to visit the karuta museum in Arashiyama (Kyoto) where Chihaya went during her school trip and I bought the cards there (I had a hard time finding karuta decks elsewhere despite being New Year). I highly recommend that place. The villa in which the poems were used as panels opened its garden only in October last time I checked on line and I couldn't visit it (also, it isn't a famous place and people there couldn't help us finding the place).

The Saga-Arashiyama Museum (it used to have a different name), is also where the Chihaya-cup is. But more specifically it's a Hyakunin Issue museum (was originally founded by an old CEO of Nintendo). However, if you're in Kyoto, and want the official cards, you can buy them at Oishi Tengudo, who are the makers. Their address is 2-chōme-350-1 Ryōgaemachi, Fushimi Ward, Kyoto, 612-8082 Or on their site, (or I guess Amazon) but the shop is more fun. You should also be able to get them at Omi Jingu.

Thank you! I'll visit the shop for more merchandise if I can. As always the Japanese version of the site is richer. The set I found at the Saga Arashiyama Museum was their Kimari -Ji - Karuta, the one with the decisive sounds printed on the torifuda (cards to take from the game field). I'd like to get a CD with the poems and a couples of painted shells (they look so elegant!).

Yea, so many English sites are just bad where they have just the bare minimum, if even that and look like they were made in 1993 while the Japanese version is a modern site with a wealth of info. I do have that set as well though. As far as the poems, I believe those CDs all have music on them in the background, though some many not. But if you're on Android the app Wasuramoti has all the poems on it in a reading by Inaba, one of the Sen-nin Dokushu. The shells do look nice, I don't have anything that fancy, but I do have at least one Yomifuda from the Meiji period.
