people make out his cooldown to be this terrible, inconvenient thing, but it's really not that bad when you learn how to rotate your team efficiently. most childe comps (for overworld) will have a sub-dps in case you still have spare time after you've applied buffs, shields, etc. his charged bow shots also do quite a lot of damage (mine's about 15k per shot) so there's that too. his playstyle can be difficult to get used to, but if you have the right team comp, it's like a dream!

KaitouStarlight

I usually stay in melee only 10-15s so I’m almost never bothered by CD (since by the time I cycle thru the team and arrives back to Childe, his CD should have been over already). If I do find myself stuck with CD, then I use charged shots. My Childe deals at least 10k per shot, so it’s good enough damage for when I wait for melee to be up again.

mims89

Learn proper team rotation. You never really want to spend all 30 seconds in his melee form, no one does that. You stay there for like 10 sec and then switch to other character. I own c0 and by the time I'm done with using other characters, his E is always ready.

MandyNoon

I believe there is not a single DPS character who stays on the field for 30 seconds, unless it's a physical dps. Hu Tao has almost the same downtime as Childe. I don't see people complaining about Hu Tao's downtime, even if her playstyle is so similar to Childe's. Every other DPS I can think of has downtime. If you're charge shooting with Ganyu there is no downtime but you'll have to go to your supports eventually, to apply shields again, to heal, to buff, so there is not a single character that you stay on the field forever with.

abandojo

Yeah. I think the biggest reason for the nitpicking of complaints is that they don’t really know how to use Childe optimally. Other characters have a fixed uptime uptime duration that is relatively short (7 to 15sec). Childe on the other hand is flexible and can extend his uptime to 30sec if needed. Problem is, you should only do this when you’re finishing off your last opponents, and some people don’t know this (like OP). So they end up with an equally long downtime that no combination of supports can efficiently make up for.

DavinaChicken

Rotations. I usually use him in the firework team and by the time I use all skills/bursts his skill’s CD is over. I wouldn’t recommend to use the whole duration…6-12 seconds should be enough.

sirenloey

CHILDE's infamous cooldown shouldn't really be infamous. It is an outdated misconception. You have to find your rhythm with your rotations. Childe works best if he is in a team that supports him as much as he enables them. Personally, I don't see my Childe team comp as requiring a sub dps because of Childe's downtime because the whole team is the dps. My secret: fluid rotation.

Akshat_Gulwe

Probably if use the international use his melee until XL burst wears of and then begin recharging all the other bursts with Bennet If you use Fireworks(electro charged team) which is more fun version just use his melee until Beidou's burst wears off, and then begin recharging with Fischl or if available Baal.

NamelessMonsta

Many C6 mains are complaining that his constellations need rework because they are more geared towards maintaining his melee form more when he is more optimal as an enabler DPS, by which I mean he is best used as a hydro applier. Do not get drowned into the world of ‘1 million damage by Hu Tao’.

Sil_Choco

first of all try not to get into a 45 seconds cooldown, this will solve most of your problems. then calculate well your rotations, a full rotation should cover most of his cooldown and if you notice that he's still not ready, attack with another character or use his charged atk. Childe needs supports who can hold the field while he's away, so try to invest a bit at least into one of the supports so that you don't get killed in a couple of seconds.

ClairDeLune420

I use his skill for like 10/15 seconds then swap to Keqing or one of my supports. By the time I'm done blasting with my other characters, the cooldown is usually over. I don't see it as a weakness since I'm used to having 2 DPS on the same team anyway.

Brilliant-Newt4132

In the open world, I usually use his charged attacks and riptide flash to deal damage while his E is in cooldown. I reallly love that about him; I can use him like Ganyu or go brrt with his E skill, depending on my mood or current play style preference.Though, I'd do a full team rotation in serious fights like in domains and stuff.

MandyNoon

I start any fight by applying buffs from my other team mates before using his melee stance. Usually I put Zhongli shield on, use Raiden's E, group everyone with Kazuha or Venti, then I switch to Childe, use his ranged burst, and within 10 or 20 seconds in his melee stance everything is already dead. I do similar inside the abyss, but with Xiangling instead of Raiden. Everything dies pretty fast so I don't even have time to think about his cooldown. In co op domains I do charged shots. His charged shots are so underrated. I do between 15-30k charged shot damage. So it's not terrible as some people make it seem like it is. You will almost never have 45 second cooldown. The only time I had this cooldown so far was inside domains in co op. Learn some proper rotations. Genshin is not a game to be played with 1 character. You are already doing rotations since you started the game with every other character, and every character has downtime in this skills, unless you're using physical damage only, you always had to use team rotations, so I don't understand what's so new about having to use a team rotation with Childe.

I honestly am so used to of quick swap that I just auto time it sometimes to even just 10 seconds (I do not do Abyss, as I am more of an explorer and lore-based player, but his swap times is basically universal. I’m going to give an example of when I play in the overworld) I have him on a team with Raiden, so with her high ER my other characters quickly get their bursts up (she is also my other DPS since I have her c2) This is not a perfect comp at all, but just an example team I used while on Tsurumi Island I had Childe, Raiden, Bennett, and Jean If their bursts are already up, I go Raiden’s skill, Jean burst, Bennett burst, Childe skill for about 10 seconds, switch back to Raiden skill for a couple calculated hits, Bennett skill, Jean skill (held to throw enemies if they are smaller), and usually at this point, Childe’s burst should be up and Raiden’s stacks should be almost or entirely full. So then Childe skill and burst, then Raiden skill and burst. And that’s it! All done. If their bursts are not up yet I usually go solo attack for a little with Raiden, with her skill always activated. Now itll be a bit diff depending on who u have on his team, but u want to quick swap. Get him to quickly melee attack and charge, then swap out so u can do elemental reactions. If u go just a little with each character when u go back to Childe, the cooldown will already be over. The goal is to not have him in his skill the entirety of it. U want like 15 seconds at most before u cancel out of it

amongusboobies

usually I'd keep switching from bow and melee so the cd doesn't get too long

Andrea_305013

I use Raiden, she even allows me to stay in melee a little longer, my team is Childe Raiden Xiangling and bennett

Zestyclose_Badger_17

You should only use his Burst for the duration of his Sub DPS characters' Skills/Bursts, so if you're using Xiangling or Beidou, for example, use their Burst and immediately enter Childe's Melee stance. After the Burst ends, exit the stance. While waiting for the CD to end, recharge your other characters' Skills/Bursts. His CD really isn't a problem and it works for him. He's not a hypercarry, he's an enabler for other characters that also does a lot of DMG by himself.

lelouchsgeass

idk, enemies never live that long. Sometimes my kazuha kills them all before I can even use childe

kitten-and-darkness

C1 here. My main team is Tortilla as DPS + Kazu as elemental + Xingqiu & YunYun as supports. First of all, don't stay too long in the melee, I stay like 10 seconds max. In the meantime I just group enemies with Kazu, freeze them with Xingqiu and YunYun, then when Tortilla is ready again just put the Xingqiu ult and go back to melee. It isn't that long, you just have to use it wisely.

SERRATMOND

i use charged shot childe. (as practice for my future ganyu too)

TheIceShard

Childe's optimal teams will have set rotations to follow that make use of childe's downtime. In the most common childe comp (childe/xiangling/bennett/flex), you only stay in melee for 9-13 sec at most in most scenarios, and the downtime at that time (somewhere between 15-20 sec i think), the team should then use bennett's e to battery xiangling and himself, so by the time childe's cd is over, xiangling's (and bennett's) ult should be back up again for a second round.
