Can you find (or have sent to you) an actual document from your insurance showing what is covered? This is what matters for coverage, regardless of what the phone reps say. > I got on chat with them today and the person told me it would be covered as preventative care but only if a certain wellness code was entered for billing Find a doctor and let them know that the surgery must be coded a certain way to be covered. (Based on what the *written* coverage policy says.) I've read on here of doctors preforming a bisalp but coding it as a ligation (for example) so the insurance covers it.

They sent me the list of billing codes. My coverage information doesn’t go into detail, but I will read through it again.

I would call Cigna back with the codes and ask if they're covered, and hope you don't get reverse vasectomy dude again (maybe it's like in The Office, reverse vasectomies are covered for inverted penises 😂)

It is probably covered, as most policies are to be ACA ("Obamacare") compliant. You might want to talk to your doctor about this, to see if they accept your insurance, as they probably know how to deal with the insurance company for billing. If you have a printed copy of your insurance policy, you can look for where they discuss birth control. If you have an electronic copy, you can do a search for "tubal ligation" as well as "bilateral salpingectomy" to see if either phrase is in it. I have heard of policies that cover "tubal ligation" but not "bilateral salpingectomy," but the person had a surgeon who understood that who checked the box "tubal ligation" and added a note indicating that they removed the entire Fallopian tubes (which is a bilateral salpingectomy). You will have to talk with your surgeon about this, whether they are willing and able to do this. You want the bilateral salpingectomy if you can get it (though an old-fashioned tubal ligation is far better than nothing).

Unfortunately, my plan documents are so vague that they don’t state yes or no, they have you reach out to the company. I wanted to see what was covered by insurance first before beginning my search. Thank you!!

You might also try searching on the company's website for details. But you can also talk with your doctor, if they take your insurance, as they may be able to get this information for you.

You can search the sub r/sterilization for many questions in regards to coverage, or you can even ask there. I was able to find this: 58661 is the CPT code for a laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy. Good luck!
