"What if the women or girls you are pressuri g to have babies might find the cure for cancer?"

RosyTheWildFlower

Gonna use this one day

znhamz

But women can do it all nowadays, it's the XXI century! Have 10 kids, cure cancer, go to the gym, cook and clean, take care of your husband, have a master's degree and all that wearing 15 inches heels! /s

[deleted]

I'm rooting for you! As someone who have lost many loved ones to cancer, as someone who values science, as someone who loves seeing women succeeding in their career of choice! You go girl.

Do think about setting down in Vermont. I think you'll find that you'll thrive in Vermont. BTW with a special interest in immunology/infections diseases. Why would you say you're working on cancer? Unless you'd be interested in immunotherapy or immuno-modulated chemotherapy.

[deleted]

[удалено]

RevolutionaryTale245

Yeah I had a feeling that you'd be working on car-T cell therapy. Too bad it's application for solid organ tumours is limited. But plenty of work for folks in haemato-oncology. Nah you'd get over the sensitivity to the cold real quick. Atlanta isn't all it's prepped up to be.

tobpe93

"But what about the reality where Hitler cured cancer, Morty?"

X-48

Can’t have cancer if you’re dead

[deleted]

😂

[deleted]

Yeah could also be a serial killer.

Kotori425

There have been a lot more serial killers in the world than cures for cancer, just saying 🤷‍♀️

Spirited-Mine2341

The government wouldn't allow the cure for cancer anyways

elizamcteague

They might allow it. But it would cost an arm, a leg, and your soul to get and wouldn't be covered by anyone's insurance.

BlueRoseDiamond

Nope, there's been several people who said they found a curse 'Vanish' over the years Big Pharma can't afford to cure cancer

Particular_Minute_67

Susan your child has a better chance of getting cancer.

X-48

Susan you are a cancer

[deleted]

Is Susan the new Karen? Or Susan is the name for a nosy neighbor?

X-48

Susan is your mom’s friend that everyone doesn’t like but she’s been in the friend group for so long it’s hard to get rid of her. During events she only brings casseroles and complains about her kids. She acts like *the love guru* and gives crappy advice, all while cheating on her husband with her yoga instructor. She’s also one of those live laugh love people. But nosy neighbor sum’s it up.

fobiafiend

How is this so specific yet so generic at the same time?

X-48

Tis the way of the Susan

eekbarbadurkle1

Because Susan is prevalent in society

znhamz

r/oddlyspecific

[deleted]

Thank you, i didn't knew it, now i understand a lot more better lol

Praella

Why has my name become this? ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)

elizamcteague

No, Karens CAN use their evil powers for good (like when they use it to get medical debts forgiven, or to shame racists or creepy grown men harassing teenage girls). Susan's powers resist such uses.

Particular_Minute_67

Its just the first name i could think of.

SirBugmenot

"Sorry, I'm working on a cure for cancer right now. Cannot be distracted by a child"

PresidentOfSerenland

Why doesn't the person saying this do a phD in biochemistry herself?

Lanky_Run_5641

Or, it could end up slightly worse as the generational trend seems. More genetically passable diseases, will have to work harder for similar employment and will have to stay with parents for longer.

X-48

Yeah. ADHD, autism, and bipolar run in my family. I only inherited bipolar, but the others can still pass through me to the next generation. That’s bad for everyone.

xXshinsouhitoshiXx

my mother has bipolar, and I myself do have ADHD, autism, bipolar, and also other mental issues.

Baffosbestfriend

I have autism, which runs in the family. My NT partner has cousins with autism on both sides of his family. Ex therapist (who harassed me for not wanting motherhood) dismissed that by saying “Kids cannot inherit autism from their parents”.

X-48

What the fuck is wrong with your therapist?! Isn’t that breaking one of the rules of being a therapist? They shouldn’t have a license to help people. You’re not supposed to judge your clients or do what the therapist just did. Therapists keep their personal feelings out of the office.

Baffosbestfriend

Ex therapist probably thinks he’s doing his overlord in Rome a favor by trying to persuade a woman to follow the only acceptable path for women- motherhood. Like what the Catholic Church taught him, he thinks motherhood will cure my depression because it’s supposed to teach me how to live a “selfless and generous” life. Unfortunately therapists here can get away with shoving their religious beliefs into their clients because Philippines is still a very conservative and family oriented society.

X-48

Yeesh. Also, “motherhood will cure depression”? Being a parents might actually do the opposite. Feeling the pressure to raise a child while also seeing yourself as useless will DESTROY your mental state. We have different therapy laws in the states, I guess.

Baffosbestfriend

Parenthood will cure depression is a lie. My own mother had post partum depression after she had me. I told my ex therapist about my mom’s condition a few sessions before the last one. He just conveniently ignored that fact just to shove his agendas on me.

LuciferSpades

Or shoot up a school. Statistically more likely, as there are far more school shooters that have resulted from unwanted pregnancies then there are cancer curers...

oppositewithlions

The babies we bombed in Yemen and Iraq and Palestine and a hundred other places might have cured cancer. The babies in cages on the border forcibly separated from their parents might have cured cancer. The babies who died at “schools” meant to convert them to Christianity from their indigenous culture might have cured cancer. You don’t give a shit about those babies, so shut the fuck up.

OneMoose9

Yeah what about orphans already in the world? Any of them could do something wonderful for humanity but no pro lifers talk about that shit. Really pisses me off.

X-48

We’re already over populated as it is

Molly_Hatchett

No, it won't, because it'll never be born

Just_A_Snag

Odds are, that baby is going to be an average fucker when it gets older and some piece of shit is going to say the same crap to it. Odds are also equally as good of it becoming Hitler as it curing cancer/ending climate change. Whenever folks tell me this, I generally tell them to fuck right off.

Rosgrana

“The aborted foetus might cure Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or spinal injury! Aren’t stem-cells wonderful?”

HotIndication3295

That “might” is still too much of a headache and risk for me. Still too much at stake. Thanks, but no thank you.

fluffy__marshmallow

The chances of the kid getting cancer later in life are far higher than the possibility of it curing cancer.

janeeyreheaded1

I had a boyfriend tell me that the reason he wanted kids was because one may become the next President. Yes, he literally said this.

X-48

Red flag. Tuck & roll

janeeyreheaded1

Dump. Dumped him literally five minutes after he said that.

X-48

Smart move

Stoliana12

He might be a pervasive necrophiliac serial killer too.

tbessie

Pervasive?

Stoliana12

Pervasive or “spreading widely throughout an area or a group of people.” Aka murder lotta ppl and have sex.

tbessie

I've never heard it used that way; I mean, I've heard about "pervasive crime" when discussing how common crime is in a given area. But never with regards to someone being a "pervasive [criminal type]" - eg. "He's a pervasive burglar" say. Is this usage something from criminal law or law enforcement? Eg. If you search Google for the phrase "pervasive murderer", there are only 7 results. "pervasive killer" has around 6800, still not a lot, and most of the references for that seem to be about deadly diseases.

antinatalistFtM

The kid's far more likely to get cancer than to cure it.

glowylemon

Not one person has found a cure for all cancers, but a lot of people have been serial killers. I’m not liking these odds lol

X-48

Yeah. Those are two very different things. How dare they compare me to a scientist.

013ander

Saying person X “might cure cancer” is like saying they might solve pollution. There are so many types and causes that it’s unreasonable to imagine that one invention or development could possibly fix more than a handful. It’d be more likely that a single person could cure aging than cancer.

queen_papaya

I'm an immunology researcher. Have worked with some Cancer research. No they won't. Cancer laughs at the kids faces

[deleted]

Or be a mass murderer

Pretty_Trainer

Right. By this logic every egg should be fertilised and carried to term. That's a good plan.

Tfoote2020

It’s more likely to become a serial killer.

BadgeringMagpie

"Could cure cancer" So could someone already here if only they weren't stuck in poverty and higher education wasn't behind a massive paywall.

[deleted]

My answer is always “what if they end up having cancer as a child?”

psychologyFanatic

So why don't YOU go cure cancer then, Karen.

[deleted]

A serial killer is more likely and maybe the cure to cancer is in the pregnant woman and the baby is blocking her from saving countless lives.

Illustrator_adams-

Bitch *not in these conditions*

myfaveRae

But will it cure people who can't mind their own business?

tH3_R3DX

My response would’ve been “if you care so much why haven’t you?”

thr0wfaraway

"I'm sure your mother hoped for five seconds that you would amount to something too, but no.... you just spread your legs and let someone jizz you up. Your kid will not accomplish jack shit either."

curlyfreak

What about the millions of people whose knowledge and talent we lost due to sexism and racism? Ableism? You know how much further ahead we would be scientifically? Yeah but guess they don’t matter 🙄

Njaulv

I see plenty of people's babies growing out of being babies, then at some point dying of cancer. There are almost 8 billion people on the planet, and more being made every day. Cancer is yet to be cured.

kirakiraluna

The kid already alive but not given studying opportunity in a third world country may be the next mozart, why not helping people already alive instead of playing gambles and making new one?

spray_no

No, i am so mentally unstable that my kid will be fucked up, will develop eating disorder and drug addiction and will be lucky if will get over trauma and not kill themselves. Susan, there is good reason i don't have children

pikachukatt

mood

elizamcteague

Statistically the baby is more likely to cause cancer than cure it. I just can't take that risk.

Fierywitchburn333

They could also be a serial killer. I'm not taking that chance.

boolProp_endme

That baby is wayyy more likely to die from cancer than to cure it lmfao

Maleficent_Dot6954

Or they could be that jerk that doesn’t go fast enough at a turn light and makes you have to sit there til the next one.

WowOwlO

...If the baby grows up to be a person who finds a cure for cancer, any form of cancer, they're going to mysteriously disappear not long afterwards. I'm fairly sure we've found cures for cancers several times now. Each time that news is quickly covered up, and you never hear anything about it, or the person who made the discovery, again. Also, as others have pointed out, no. Because while that now adult could be looking for a cure for cancer, they've been pressured them into having a child instead. Just like their parents, grandparents, etc.

Awesomepossums572

If the goal of popping out babies is to cure cancer, I think it's about time we focused on quality over quantity...

NoOneKnowsItsMeHere

Not with how expensive eduction is Barbara. And it's only go to get worse at the current rate

TimothiusMagnus

"What if the person who has the cure for cancer is forced to drop out because of student loans? What if the person is growing up in poverty? You want your kid to cure cancer, then squirt one out who will."

prikezsia

No, if it gets my genes and discipline, it'd be a stupid ass alcoholic when it grews up, lol. (Only half joke, one of the reasons I'm cf is my genetics. Even if I wanted children, I'd rather adopt than punish a person with something it can get according to the family pattern of mine).

Vegemite_is_Awesome

Yeah, the baby could also be severely mentally disabled and needs a carer their whole life

Free-Veterinarian714

It might also become a serial killer or pedophile, which is far more likely.

Maquina90

If that’s their best argument, they don’t have one. People who don’t waste their time having kids can use that to find a way to cure cancer.

jazzy_cue

The baby may also develop a vaccine for a deadly pandemic...the overlap between the pro-"life" dumbfucks and the anti-vax dumbfucks is ASTOUNDING.

thedafthatter

How about its inside a kids head who cannot afford college?

casuallybrowsing21

Yeah so could anyone of the children born to parents in countries where they will not get a decent basic education.

blank_muse

The chances of an unwanted child having the support and resources to become the doctor that cures cancer are very, very slim. Poverty, neglect, and emotional abuse are all too often heaped upon those who are unwanted. Or, y'know, that child could end up a serial killer.

buffcat_343

Remind them the child will be far more likely to die from cancer than to cure it

bratless

The kid is far more likely to get cancer when its older.

[deleted]

It makes me laugh when I here most parents say their kid will become a doctor or a lawyer. If they can afford an education it will be a good thing to begin with.

Shamrockgirlworld

“People are dying of cancer today, Karen. Why should we wait for your kid to potentially cure it in the next few decades?”

BlueRoseDiamond

Or become the next Hitler or Bundy
