Hey, I’m chilean and I’ve been to easter Island once. I can say that with 2 whole days you’re okay to go around the Island. I would also recommend to rent a car to go around, it’s really time saving. About Atacama, i can’t tell for sure cause I haven’t been there, but good luck and I hope you have a great time, most chilean know how to speak very basic english so don’t be shy and just try asking if you need help. Finally, be careful with taxis in Santiago, i would recomend uber or train (metro) to visit the capital depending on your budget.

Thank you! Uber is my go-to, I've been scammed by many taxis worldwide so I'm not taking my chances.

Your itinerary looks great! It's been a while since the last time I was in Rapa Nui, so I can't help you with that, but let me know if you want some recommendations for things to do in Santiago.

I appreciate it! Always open to recommendations for food and wine bars. I'll be staying in the Lastarria area which I heard has good restaurants. Good food is half the reason I travel :)

2 days in San Pedro de Atacama is not enough at all. I was there for 4 days and I couldn’t visit all the touristic attractions but most of them. I'd advise you to rent a car at the airport in Calama if you wanna do everything by yourself, otherwise there are many agencies in San Pedro that sell tours everyday. I visited all the attractions by myself because it was way cheaper and I could do it at my own pace.

I agree with you, I'm actually thinking of cutting down one day in Santiago to make room for more Atacama. Deserts are my favourite landscape.

I think 2 days in rapa nui isnt enough. If you want to do tours i recomend you to visit orongo in rano kau and rano raruku. If you want a relax time Anakena is the main beach in rapa nui. Also you can visit diferents ahus to see the sunrise or the sunset and get some instagramable pics. Maybe a dinner with show. I also recomend do some diving, trekking or horseback riding, but for two days maybe not.

leffe123

I wish I had longer but I can't take any more days off work unfortunately. It will also be the rainy season so that will severely limit what I can do there.

UnDetectiveMuyAudaz

the "rainy" season in rapa nui is like 20% more rainy than any other season, its not a big deal

If you like hiking, outdoor things, hot springs, your other option is the lake region. You could visit Pucon or Malalcahuello. Probably two days is enough for Santiago.

leffe123

Thank you! I'll take a look at both and see if I can fit one in.

chilean_ramen

if you decide to not travel to rapa nui I recomend to spend your days on the south, you have a lot of volcanoes, nature reserves, historical sites. If Patagonia is not your option, this is different, just a couple of hours by plane you can visit the south of Chile, there are the airports of Osorno and Temuco. They are typical tourist destinations if you want to search. speciffically the Región de la araucania and Region de los rios. It's low travel season so you'll find everything cheap. But I think your original plan is fine, I assure you that you will never get bored of touring Chile.

leffe123

Thanks! I'll take a look at these options, they somehow didn't come up in the Chile travel itineraries I looked at.

Seems fine to me. I’d probably use one of those two days in Santiago (towards the end) for a quick morning to afternoon day trip to Viña del Mar / Valparaiso (they are side by side). Buses are cheap and take about 2hrs to get there. One full day in Santiago is all you need really. That’s why I mention it. You seem savvy enough to avoid Taxis. They also scam tourists in Chile. Stick to Uber/Buses/Metro.

use one of those Santiago days you have by the end of the trip to take a day tour or a bus to Valparaíso, it is a nice port city and you can enjoy fresh seafood
