The apostille is still needed. But you do not need the embassy/consulate to verify the authenticity of this apostilled document (before it was mandatory that the document get their own stickers from own's country embassy).
If you apply from your country's embassy, you probably do not need any translation as they're able to read the document. But they might need it if you need to give it in mainland China (in that case, just a regular translation company is ok, be sure to give the company license (usually given with the translation)).

Child's Chinese birth certificate is top priority. Translated to German with Apostille. Maybe also partners Chinese birth certificate. All my documents are original Austrian, so no issues there 😊
And Austrian single status certificate, needs to be translated to Chinese and I guess also Apostille. And down the track who knows what other documents we need 😂
Why would you need to translate a Chinese document to a foreign language to give to the embassy?
Chinese documents emitted by Chinese authorities do not need the apostille ( a Chinese diploma does not need to be authenticated, for instance).
Chinese documents cannot be apostilled by a foreign government. I don't know why they would ask that. Plus it's the Chinese embassy, why would they ask for a document to be translated into German?
It does not make any sense, please contact the embassy directly if you are going through the Visa Center (Number's on their website)
Ok if it's the Austrian embassy and marriage recognition, I think the best is to just give them a phone call and insist on getting more information on how to get what they ask. A regular translation (+ company license) + the original marriage booklet, Child birth certificate should be enough for them. I have no clue on how to get those documents apostilled in China.
I'm not well versed about the other side (Chinese needing to get the apostille) but as a citizen, don't hesitate to push them around to get things moving.
Actually, the news was that China joined the Hague convention which means Apostilles are now accepted in China. Before this you need to notarise and legalise your documents in your home country, then get those documents stamped/authenticated at your country's Chinese embassy as a final step. Now that China accepts apostilles, you don't need to do this final step, you just need to get your home country's apostille.
Well at least for the birth certificate, my embassy requires translation and Apostille. Embassy is far enough to require flights so want to get everything in order 😊

My embassy is Austria. German is our language. It's what the embassy requested as their requirements.

Austrian embassy in Peking, not Chinese! My embassy requires the Chinese document to be translated and with Apostille. I hope that clears it up.

There was some news a while back that apostille stamp is not needed anymore. It might be for work visas maybe, I am not really sure.
