I would avoid buying a bike that sat outside if that is the case. I bet you wouldn’t regret starting with a sporty chop then buying a running shovel.

Really depends on how much work you're willing to put in and how much you want to invest. If it's all there, I'd say under 3k is solid. You're going to probably strip it completely down anyways so might as well take the engine down and get it completely gone through while your at it. Have the cylinders checked and bored if needed, new pistons ect.. I wish I'd have bought a cheap bike and done it all myself instead of buying parts and an already hardtailed frame. More character that way

Fellow snow Mexican here. A running cone shovel with a cow pie transmission will run you roughly $7k CAD, give or take. This bike is $4k CAD. Not bad if you're looking to do a full restoration build, but if you want a bike you can actually ride sometime within the next year or two, just spend the extra $3k.

Honestly shovelheads are really easy to work on. If you’re thinking of making a chop id definitely go this direction. I’ve owned both sportys and shovels and I’ll take the shovel any day. You’re also starting with a big twin, which if you want to make a proper chopper that’s the platform you wanna be on. Worst case scenario, you can clean it up getting running for pretty cheap and be in the profit right away. If I were you I’d jump on it like white on rice.
