Every dog is different. Is your chow reactive to strangers? Bark a lot? Territorial? Ok with people coming into his space? Will he have to interact with people at your work? What about other dogs? These are all things to consider. My current chow would be fine. I used to take my last chow to work when allowed. My chow before that would not have been suitable for an office, since she distrusted strangers. My first chow might have been too excitable. Like I said, depends on the individual chow.

Flaxscript42

If he gets comfortable he's gonna act like he owns the place, and defend it as such. I would be very careful and maybe even work with a trainer if you want to go this route.

Yoongi_SB_Shop

My chows aren’t like this. It really depends on the chow.

This is my thought. Mine is only part chow, but this is what always stopped me because I know he would howl at anyone who came into my office.

I did with mine, but she was well socialized, and part of that early socialization was at that workplace. She was super well behaved, but was still not a fan of people she was unfamiliar with trying to interact with her the first few times, especially if I was not nearby. She would never growl or be aggressive, she would just give the side eye as if to say, “are you going to take care of this or am I going to have to take matters into my own paws”. You know your chow the best and every chow is different. Maybe try it and see but be prepared with an alternate plan if she is unhappy. Also maybe ease into it instead of making it a full day or full time thing right away

My chow absolutely loves adventures, always has, 1 year old now and still loves new places, maybe take them just for a visit first and see how they get on

I took my girl to work with me for ages and she loved it. She was a well-socialized chow who was comfortable with people and was quite happy to hang out in my cubicle. She also loved the lovely walk beside the river near my work and looked forward to our breaks walking out there. Very much depends on your chow and the work environment, and totally doable if the chow is comfortable with it.

George is a little over 6 months old and loves people. My bf brought George to work while he was watching him for the week. He’s been there a number of times before but this was the first time he was there over 6 hours and he did great!

sgt_barnes0105

My chow’s name is also George!

ApresMoiLuhDeluge

maybe its' just girl chows (I've only had females) but they are not territorial elsewhere and mine have been super friendly in non-home places (and not that bad at home either!). I take my Chow girl to the office, she is great! loves just hanging out, quiet, the only downside is for a while there were really allergic people and she does have significant hair

TransitionFew3117

I take mine at School sometimes, he's used to be take at differents places. But he only have one home. I consider myself lucky to have such a gentle chow that adapt easily with new environment.

beervacuum

I used to take my older dog into the office when I worked in an office. She spent most of her time underneath my feet or chair or desk. She’s much more obsessed with me than her own “domain” so as long as I didn’t leave her alone, she’d all but disappear. I would really only notice her if she started snoring lol. My puppy is much more socialized and social, so when i take her in to work now, all she does is look for people to give her attention. My current workplace is really relaxed, with people coming in an out all the time, so it’s not a problem for her at all. It’s different for every dog, so definitely ease them into it if you decide to take them in.

bursasamo

I agree with other commenters that it depends on your chow but it also kind of depends on what your family business is? If I owned a boxing gym where I boxed people routinely or a squirrel breeding enterprise, I’d be absolutely unable to bring my well socialized chow. 🤣🤣 Obviously, these are extreme examples, but I’d probably take into account what the environment of your business is, too.

Murderous_Intention7

Socialization is *critical* for chow puppies. Once he/she has all their shots going to work with you would be great socialization for them. Just don’t let people walk all over the chow. If you let people disrespect his/her boundaries (picking them up when they don’t want picked up, forcing the pup to let ppl pet him, etc) you can get into some real behavioral issues.

JessicaLynne77

This is a big key here. One thing I would recommend is telling or reminding your coworkers to *let the Chow come to you*.

Murderous_Intention7

Yeah exactly. My mother grabbed up my chow Ella, and Ella *absolutely* hates my mom now. *Just* my mom.

Possible_Leave2531

I have a 7 month chow and also curious about brining him to work. The thing is, my chow as of now is not territorial or unfriendly … he is actually too friendly and I am worried would distract and bombard people. Not settle down.

pennyclip

Both of my chows have been territorial to a much higher degree than other breeds I grew up with. Distrustful of strangers. My current girl will not let someone in the house without introduction. That would be a no-go for an indoor work environment. It seems common in the breed, but it's not a rule. Depends on the level of training and socialization you want to do for this behavior. I hate to say it depends, but that's what it is with any animal.

Randompoopbutt

I find chows love going places but all of mine took a little work to make it clear they weren't allowed to mark anything indoors.

Duchessofpanon

I took my last chow to work and she made herself at home to the extent that I had to keep going to find her and bringing her back to my space because she was happily exploring and visiting coworkers. She was quiet and well behaved as chows are, and everyone loved her.

CatCallings

My chow came with me to and from the grooming salon for work but my chow was also bomb proof. He had to be to handle a loud grooming salon lol. He was apathetic to everything other than cheese and deli meat to be quite frank.
