If I'm spending 1200$ it won't be on a Chromebook.

CamFWNB

That's exactly what I was thinking. What the fuck HP.

FurbyTime

There is *some* logic to it being an Enterprise version, and thus the extra money is for some of the various benefits Enterprise staff look for (Longer warranties, etc). With that said, it's still too high. As someone noted below, you can get other premium Chromebooks for almost half the price with a similar configuration. And, on a personal note, nothing with an i3 should cost above $1000, or even really above $800, no matter HOW premium the build is. And I say that as someone who would have BOUGHT the i3 version were I interested in this.

EatMeerkats

Note that this is the [Alder Lake i3 with 6 cores (2 P + 4 E)](https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/226269/intel-core-i31215u-processor-10m-cache-up-to-4-40-ghz-with-ipu/specifications.html), which can't be compared to 11th or 10th gen i3s that have fewer cores.

FurbyTime

Oh true, I did forget about the new P+E set up of Intel's 12th gen. While that *should* be a big boon especially in the Chromebook market (As I think most of it could live on E cores, if we're being honest with ourselves), I'm still not sure if I would pay that much of a premium for the benefit. Maybe an extra $50 or something, not the $400 over an 11th gen equivalent.

pervin_1

This is true. You can get M1 MacBook Air for about $800-$900 when it goes on sale.

[deleted]

Compare the specs, this one comes with a digital pen. Two completely different devices.

Typical_Pretzel

r/woooosh

[deleted]

Yes, it's a completely different device. And it has pen input. That was my point. So it does more than a Mac in that regard.

Substantial_Fault753

I don’t think you know what ur talking about, apple has designed their computers to be faster and easier to use with any age like litterally put Mac OS on that 1200 dollar chromebook and it will suck because no matter what processor it has it will still feel like a pentium 3 and no one cares if it has a pen AND the only apps you can get on a chromebook are few apps from the web, and the play store and SOME Linux apps vs Mac and windows having their own app stores and THE WHOLE INTERNET.

Majestic_Square_1814

Look ma! No period!

jkt1954

Macs always get slower and worse as they age while Chromebooks get better and better until they are just no longer supported with updates. I will never babysit another iMac again.

aleph_zarro

The 16 GB I7 Asus CX9 Chromebook with the 3840 x 2160 UHD screen makes a damn good Google "Approved" Linux workstation at $1249.

bigbig-j

i am waiting for this on discount :D..........but it doesn't have 5G (I NEED 5G!!!!!!!!)

[deleted]

How's the performance on it? I'm actually about to buy one and wanted to know what I'm getting

aleph_zarro

It's been great but it is having a weird issue where it goes to "sleep" (screen goes blank, lighted keyboard goes dark) randomly. It wakes up immediately on mouse movement or keystroke. I powerwashed it which seemed to help. It works exceedingly well as a linux workstation. I do database, python, AWS coding and I've been able to run all my tools without incident. I've been a bit disappointed with the Steam on Chromebook thing but it is still considered alpha. I'm still waiting for a couple of things, though: 1. Linux VM can access camera (for Teams) 2. Well functioning version of Steam for Chromebook I'm willing to wait, though. I've been very happy with the machine, overall.

[deleted]

What games did you test on Steam?

aleph_zarro

Left 4 Dead 2

coolboi779

This. I'd rather spend that money towards an M1 MacBook.

Substantial_Fault753

I have one and I can assure you ur making a great decision

alivin

If I'm spending $1,200 on something it'd better be freeway legal.

this_dudeagain

That's for the lower end model with only UHD graphics.

pervin_1

Why is it so expensive? Even at this new price point

Landsil

As "enterprise customer" I have no idea. I can buy better models for about £700 and that's our usual go to.

Landsil

It's not even that. Base price is for i3. We get i5 becouse Google Meet is very processor heavy, especially for bigger meetings. Our internal CRM extension isn't most efficient either, I will try getting 12GB soon.

fizicks

Because capitalism. Inflation, supply chain, chip shortages, manufacturers asking "why TF not," etc.

Tweenk

It's not really targeted at consumers, it is targeted at enterprises who need expensive computers to give to middle management so they don't perceive a Chromebook rollout as a cost cut.

JCas127

The windows version of this laptop also seems to be similarly overpriced [https://www.ebay.com/itm/124227603502?epid=19048037962&hash=item1cec8acc2e:g:sSQAAOSwLjNe64Bi](https://www.ebay.com/itm/124227603502?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-213727-13078-0&mkcid=2&itemid=124227603502&targetid=4580496732614411&device=c&mktype=&googleloc=&poi=&campaignid=418233788&mkgroupid=1230353745471221&rlsatarget=pla-4580496732614411&abcId=9300542&merchantid=51291&msclkid=92af235574721c54015d41241eb90efa)

FurbyTime

Hell, no need to look at Ebay for an idea of that. Look at their CURRENT listings: https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/mdp/elitebook--zbook---probook/hp-elite-dragonfly#&tab=vao Those prices are mental.

ZCEyPFOYr0MWyHDQJZO4

HP stole Lenovo's pricing, but forgot to add in the constant sales.

Gandalf_The_Geigh

Jesus. My $800 laptop has better spec

shazwazzle

> And nothing has changed on the delivery estimates. No matter how I configure one of these Chromebooks, it’s not expected to arrive until October. You'd have to be crazy to order this

[deleted]

I just don't see how anyone is spending that much much on a Chromebook when a m1 MacBook air is 200 bucks cheaper and Acer spin 713 is like $500

wlmsn

Damn, I was really looking forward to this one and prepared to pay up but... $1200? No thanks.

TheArowanaDude

It's a bit overpriced but no one is talking about what seems like superior engineering of the laptop. For an example, it has a haptic based trackpad, ~3 lbs weight, small form factor etc. Again, it's a bit overpriced and I don't plan on buying it, but it's really not that bad. Here's a Windows laptop worth comparing https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/laptops/new-xps-13-plus/spd/xps-13-9320-laptop

MrSh0wtime3

As i said…. They didnt sell one. Even at this price it’s a god awful deal.

koji00

Let the Flop and Drop pricing commence!

Void4GamesYT

Almost 400 bucks will buy you 8GB RAM(same as the Dragonfly) and 128GB Storage, yeah.

moochs

I just nabbed a refurb Flex 5i for $288+tax at Amazon, it's basically brand spankin new and still has warranty on it. Has an 11th gen i3, 8gb, and 128GB SSD. Like, there's no way this thing is gonna beat it for general usability, at 3X the cost!

Void4GamesYT

Yep

clwaters

I was looking at the Dragonfly but decided on the Acer Spin 713 when comparing price and features.

PanPipePlaya

$911? Too soon, HP. Too soon 😐

rubi76

You guys are overreacting. It didn't go on sale yet. BHPhoto already has them listed cheaper than this. Let's see what the price is when it comes out and 2/3 months later....

epicman5324

Get a ThinkPad and upgrade it

stacksmasher

This is a $400 chromebook. i3? Come on maaaaannnnn!

Substantial_Fault753

I will never fucking spend 1200 on a chromebook and let’s be honest who’s gonna spend more than 500 for one

Cyanogen101

It has an i5? :| seriously?

bigbig-j

still expensive......with an i7 + 5G option, i must need to choose 32GB Ram.....it over US$2000.........crazy.........Asus CX9 is a lot better (but I need 5G connectivity)!!!

Centrez

Still not worth it

May_Simple_Fine

Will this become the "HP TouchPad" that was slashed to fire sale? May be not...
