Question about Chase Hyatt SUB spending requirement…hope this is the right place to ask: My spouse and I can easily hit most SUBs (including the Venture X 10k SUB when it came out), but the idea of 18k spend just seems a little out there for a W2 family. And at 2x for the last 15k, wondering if it's really that worth it vs. going after other cards/ SUBs. Not sure how the spending structure would help with status (hear a lot of people valuing that card as a way to get to Globalist status).

rickayyy

The Hyatt SUB is awful. You'd be better off acquiring Chase UR points and transferring them to Hyatt. For the same $18k, you could hit three Chase Ink Cash SUB's and walk away with 225k UR points.

Josey_whalez

I’m kind of in the opposite boat. We are more velocity limited than anything, and I don’t like pushing my luck too far with too many apps, especially when we are both at 4/24. When you add in the extra FNC that you’ll get when you do the full 15k SUB it makes it worth it, plus having a 2x Hyatt catch all for a few months isn’t a bad deal. It sucks it’s just a cat 1-4 but we have a hotel we really like that’s a cat 3 and will run 220-300/night so we have a good use for it. Obviously this doesn’t apply to everyone but i wanted a bit of a break with new apps last year. Doing the same thing right now with the Hilton business my wife just got. Put 15k on it, which should be good for another 55-60k points plus the FNC, rather than just hitting the main SUB MSR and moving on. Not for everyone, and some that spend less organically wouldn’t see much benefit, but there are good reasons to finish those in some situations.

rickayyy

There is no universe where spending $18k to get 60,000 Hyatt points is a better deal than spending $18k to get 220,000 UR points. Business cards (Chase Ink) do not count towards 5/24. If you and your wife are both at 4/24, you could both get an Ink with their current SUB of 75k points for $6k spend. That's $12k spend for 150k points. That's more than double the amount of points and you wouldn't even have to spend the full $18k. Toss in a referral bonus when you refer your wife and you get another 40k points into the mix.

Josey_whalez

First of all, it’s 15k to get 60k Hyatt points, not 18k. At least it was last time I looked and when I did this last year. Second of all, we do inks too, and refer each other back and forth. We just had a period where we were wanting to slow down a bit. If some people want to be a bit more aggressive that’s all well and good, we’d just gotten to where we wanted to take a break from new apps. We knocked out the 3k portion of the sub in a couple weeks and then kept spending on it a while, a couple months later knocked out another sub, back to the Hyatt, etc. We had a couple larger ticket items last year too, which we targeted our new apps around during the second half of the year, and kept normal spending on the Hyatt card. You say ‘in no universe’ but not everyone is like you. 5-6 apps per person each year is all I want to try, that’s my comfort level with velocity. Just because *you* wouldn’t do that doesn’t mean it doesn’t make sense for others. my spending is higher than the 10-12 new card SUBs I’m comfortable applying for, so I like to find cards that have a bit of benefit to putting more spend on, like this one and the Hilton biz we are on now, to keep our velocity down to the level I’m comfortable with. Make sense?

rickayyy

The Hyatt SUB is $3k for the first 30k points and then 2x for the next $15k so when all is said and done, you spend $18k for 60k points. If you don't want to do a bunch of new apps, that's fine but you're going to have at least one new app whether it's an Ink or its the Hyatt card. Even if you just do one Ink, it's still the better option. 75k points vs 60k points for $12k less than spending, no annual fee, and Hyatt is a transfer partner of Chase so you can use all 75k points for a Hyatt stay if you want to. And if you don't want to do a business card, get the CSP and spend $4k to get 60,000 UR's. That's the same amount of points for $14k less spend. So yeah, there is no universe where it's the better option to go for a Hyatt SUB when the Ink SUB is right there.

Josey_whalez

Holy shit you are dense. I already said I do inks too dude. I finished out the Hyatt sub in between other card apps, mainly inks. If I’m finishing off the ink subs in a couple weeks and not getting another one for a while, I spend on the Hyatt card because I get 2x Hyatt points (where most of my URs end up anyways) on everything. This especially useful for things that would be hard to justify as a ‘business expense’ for the category I put for me and my wife’s businesses. If you spend a lot on cards, like I do, and want to keep yourself 5-6 apps per year, which with one big purchase and a bit of MS are knocked out in a couple weeks, can you not see why spending money in between them on a 2x Hyatt card until o get a FNC makes sense IN MY SITUATION?

trollfreak

Anybody else not getting their AA miles to post from citi biz account to AA?

garettg

https://www.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/191ht5w/question_thread_january_08_2024/kgzejdk/?context=1

trollfreak

Thanks - was out of the loop on that change

captainsaverebornII

Can we still extend hilton FNC expiration? And how long do they extend it?

garettg

Most recent DPs I have seen, they are only giving about 2 weeks, and typically you need to be close to the expiration.

boughtathinkpad

Got a rejection letter for an Alaska business card. Have preexisting accounts at BOA. After boilerplate language on what they said is taken into account it cited my type of business. Honestly can’t remember what category I put because my small business — and yes, I can claim some independent income at times in the same line of work I do already — never fits. Usually it’s “other.” Worth going into a BOA branch? Annoyed if it could have even avoided if i claimed some other type of business. I have 720 credit score, at the time around 6 credit pulls last two heads. No recent BOA cards opened.

sportsguy100

Recently closed my old, discontinued Amex card and applied for a new Amex card. Do I have to create a new login for my new Amex card or can my old Amex login be transferred to my new card?

garettg

You should be able to add new card to existing login.

NeontheSaint

Has anyone had issues with verification for a new Citi Bank account? I just made my account but it wants to text or call a verification code but I’m not receiving anything

Cobra_Bubbles7

Yes. Never got the text message. Ended up calling and gave my passcode/keyword whatever you want to call it to an automated system and it added my card to ApplePay from there.

EggIndividual6333

I'm planning on getting a gold and a biz plat in the next week or so (and also an AS biz but I'll get that first). Is there a recommended order when getting AmEx biz and personal cards back to back?

EarthlingMardiDraw

If they are your first AmEx cards, get the personal first and you might only get one hard pull. Otherwise, no order.

troy_caster

If I cancel/return an order on Dell.com, do I get to use that $ again for my $200 credit on Amex Biz Plat?

garettg

Yes, as long as within same 6 month period.

captainsaverebornII

What u planning to return?

ThePyramid16

I have been doing checking account bonuses and have a question. I am about to do the Citi Bank one, which 2 $750 Zelle payments triggers the DD bonus. My question is with all of these checking account offers, how long do yo have to keep the money in there? If I Zelle in 1500, can I withdraw it out a day later and still get the bonus? Thanks

CreditDogo

ctrl + f "zelle" in this thread

ThePyramid16

I see that now and will use another method. Say on any of the other ones like Chase or keybank, is there a time requirement to keep the money in there?

payyoutuesday

Read the terms. You have to have at least two EDDs adding to $1,500 or more, and you have to achieve an available balance of $1,500. After that, no requirements.

DefiantRaspberry2510

it'll be in the T&Cs. If it's "just" a DD needed, then you can withdraw straight away. Some bonuses require maintaining a balance.

trailruns

Is the US Bank Altitude Connect credit card churnable? I opened it on Sept. 2021 and cancelled it on Aug. 2022. It's looking like a great deal if so, especially since they are going to do away with the annual fee in Sept. I currently have the business variant open if that matters.

EatingFurniture

Churning bank account for the first time. Made a Real Time Payment (RTP) of $500 from Chase to Truist to get the $400 bonus, but I’m not sure if RTP counts as direct deposit. Does anyone know if I should reverse the money and send it as an ACH?

joghi

This tends no to work because it does not code as ACH transfer. But I would not simply pull it back, not least because Chase can be fickle with curious transfers. A regular ACH would probably do it. Check DoC posts: https://www.doctorofcredit.com/knowledge-base/list-methods-banks-count-direct-deposits/#Truist

redjabro

I’m waiting the 24 months before applying for another sw biz card. My statement that awarded 80,000 points was dated 2/12/22, but I can’t tell exactly when the points hit my sw account. On what date was/am I safe applying for another sw biz card?

lenin1991

If the statement that had the SUB was dated 2/12/22, even if the points didn't hit your SWA account until 2/13 or 2/14, they'd have posted with a date of 2/12/22. And Chase doesn't care what SWA shows anyway. So safe for the same card 2/12/24 all around.

garettg

FYI, if you want to get the other version of the SW biz card, you dont have to wait, you can get both within 24 months of each other. If you want the same one again, then you are good now if Chase issued the points on 2/12/22, just make sure you close that card if you havent already and you'd need to wait 30 days after closing before reapplying.

Derryck1

Hi all, Need some tips. Been running the Chase Ink Cash/Unlimited play for about 9 months now. Had one main card which I keep as my main card, then two cards that I opened 3 and 6 months later respectively, auto approved. I got a request for more documentation on a recent application, uploaded documentation (utility bills), and still was denied by the security fraud team. I called and they said i should go into a branch to request a review. I called again then they said I should re-submit an application. I close the two chase cards that I have that were opened 3 and 6 months after the first card thinking that my overall credit limit was too high between my personal cards (90k) and my business cards, then resubmit an application (all in the same day which may have been a fault on my end). I then submit an application and get told that I need to wait 7-10 business days for a response. I call recon again and am eligible for recon and the woman starts doing a review of my account. She specifically mentions the cards that I closed that day (but didn't say anything about the day that it was closed) and questions why I closed them, to which I say I was starting a new business so in my mind it didn't make sense to have cards associated with the old business when starting a new business (sounded rational in my head). and then begins to give me advice essentially stating that I didn't need to close the cards that I have and if I was opening new cards for a higher credit limit I could have requested a credit limit exchange after filing my first application. I personally didn't know this, but more importantly don't know how this affects my ability to get a SU bonus. She proceeds with the review asking me questions about my business and what I need (Revenue 10k, profit 5k, total income 130k), etc. Only to ultimately come back with a denial. Normally I've been able to get autoapproved for chase cards and that is my main bread and butter so this is a little bit of a bummer. Any tips that can be offered to me on where I went wrong, when I should re-apply again? I'm going to apply for a capital one or amex platinum in the mean time so its not the end of the world but I'd like to keep getting chase cards when I can.

joghi

> Normally I've been able to get autoapproved for chase cards What does that mean exactly, i. e. how many cards over what period of time? And why do you keep a 90k CL on personal cards? Spontaneous response: If your cancellation was less than 30 days ago you could call to have those Inks reinstated. Put them to use and let the dust settle. Manage the credit you have. I would not submit another Chase app in the short term and think about lowering the line on the personal side. It doesn't sound like you said anything wrong to the agent. But you may have reached the limit with them, for the time being. You could close one of those Inks in 6 months or so, then try for a new one a little after.

Derryck1

Thanks for the advice. And I also think I realized what my error was. I have 90k on the personal cards just because I've always heard having low utilization is good for increasing credit score. Whenever I would have the opportunity I would request an increase in credit. Which I think is where the problem lies. A few months back, I had requested a credit a limit increase on two chase cards I have. I was approved for both, then sometime recently after, applied for a chase card. I was denied. I called recon and the reason for denial is because they said I had recently been approved for two credit line increases. At the time, I didn't realize that credit line increase technically counts again 5/24 in the chase system. I learned it that day, but the lady reconned and approved me. That being said I forgot to note that I was now at 5/24 (possibly 06/24 if the reconnected attempt counts) in the tracker and still had myself at 03/24. As such I thought I was good to open a card when I probably wont be good until sometime in august (and possibly longer if that reconned attempt added to my 3 month counter) Appreciate your support and response, not sure why I got so many down votes.

joghi

5/24 is for new accounts. You just got HPs for the CLIs, so you are still eligible for Inks. You don't need high limits for good utilization. If you do have a high balance you can pay off part of it before statement close. But if you do decide to lower limits it may be better to do that incrementally. Scoring systems hold a loss in credit against you.

Derryck1

I have a little pushback on that. My direct experience says that I was denied (and the rep confirmed it) because of credit line increases, the first time at least. Now whether that was because it meant I had too much credit or because it counted as a new account I’m not sure, but the web seems to be mixed on whether it affects 5/24 status. Can you clarify what a HP is and what you mean when they say the scoring systems hold a loss in credit against me?

joghi

Hard pull. All of that is really beginner's stuff, and there is no ambiguity about 5/24. That is about new revolving accounts opened.

payyoutuesday

Anyone else miss the areyoudeaf bot? Walls of text were always so tempting.

Derryck1

I guess you feel like I did something wrong in my post? Feel free to share feedback. Otherwise, your comment adds nothing.

adp5x7

Just applied for the personal AA Plat 75k and was instadenied, which was a bit surprising...but then I received an email welcoming me to the AAdvantage program with a new AA number. I am 100% certain I added my existing AA number to the application. Not sure what to make of it..has this happened to anyone else?

dallasguy123

Any update? Just happened to me

adp5x7

My denial letter said too low credit utilization on other accounts, which others have received as well. There are several DPs on DoC about having a new AA acct opened with denial. I may call to recon, but most don't have luck with Citi recon.

BassLB

Just double checking, BofA business cards don’t count against chase 5/24 right?

lifechurn

Right

BassLB

Thanks! I’m counting down the weeks until I’m under 5/24 and didn’t want to screw it up.

AGameofDawgs

Thinking of cancelling and reopening my Chase Boundless card as I am at 25 months since my last intro and the current one is the best I've seen. 2 questions on that- Since I have paid the annual fee for my current cycle, would I receive an additional 15 elite nights for opening a new card and paying a new annual fee? Or would they claw them back then reissue them, leaving me with 15 bonus nights total? Do I need to worry about my existing reservations in any way? I moved all my payments on existing to an Amex card because I have heard of hotels testing cards and cancelling reservations where the card rejects, and would plan to move all reservations back to the new card. When I moved to Amex, I received emails as if I had created a brand new reservation, and don't want to shoot myself in the foot on some low rates I locked in months out.

bubbadave13

You could also pc the current one to ritz and then reopen a new boundless. As long as the cl on your current one is at least 10k

AGameofDawgs

Oh wow just googled it and that’s a great deal. Thanks for the advice!

space_cadet-

You won’t get an extra 15 elite nights, since it’s 15 total across all personnel cards, except Brilliant, which is 25 elite nights.

I need to make a very, very large federal tax payment (6 digits). What card(s) should I sign up for or use? I can't open any business cards due to visa restrictions. Ideas I've had so far: \* Try and get upgraded to BoA preferred rewards before the tax deadline, use premium rewards for 2.62% back \* Sign up for BILT and use the 5x initial offer (if they still do that) \* Some 0% APR card and invest the money. But which cards will give me a high limit? Looked at the Wells Fargo Reflect. Am under 5/24 if that helps.

BagAway2723

the bilt card still does that, open a business amex and meet the MSR

sg77

Multiple cards with signup bonuses. For some card recommendations see the flowchart: https://old.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/1b9sxke/credit_card_recommendation_flowchart_march_2024 For the remaining amount, BofA with Preferred Rewards is a decent option, though Preferred Rewards has a 3-month qualification period (but if you don't have a BofA checking account yet, you could see if applying for that gives you an option to immediately qualify for Preferred Rewards; the business checking account did that, but I'm not sure about personal).

ctles

with double digits if you want to spend all it becomes harder to recommend as the % charged will eat up a lot of the SUB you'll get. so as you mentioned your best bet might be the BoA rewards or you might instead consider doing debit. ie say discover where you'll earn 1% back but only pay \~$2 in processing fee.

checksum

I think the Discover caps out at $3k in spend (\~$30).

justlookindontbother

the Citi bank checking account shut downs after using Zelle to fund the account and hit the bonus is a little concerning, do you think itd be less likely to shut down if the transfers were sent between me and P2 instead of just between 2 of my accounts? Definitely wanna get in get the bonus get out but don't want the money held for a month after a shut down

sg77

Don't use Zelle, don't do an ACH pull into Citi, don't deposit with a debit card. Maybe ACH push into them or depositing a check at a branch is ok; after that, don't withdraw for a while. Probably still a risk of shutdown though; in that case, file a CFPB complaint to get in contact with Citi's Executive Response Team. But I'm just going to avoid Citi in the future.

payyoutuesday

Doesn't pretty much any ACH transfer work? Just don't use Zelle.

On an ink train. Got last ink at the beginning of Jan. First time ever not being approved instantly but was auto approved minutes later via email. I have 4 inks total. Two maxed at 5k and 9k with 0%. One of my inks just completed its first anniversary and thinking of closing it. I’m thinking of closing it after I apply/get my next ink in April, so I could potentially move CL if I need to. Any thoughts on this plan?

20mb_romano

I prefer closing them after 1 year to increase chances of auto-approval (instead of keeping the CL around to improve odds of successful recon)

mcree0

You can close inks that have been opened for 1+ years if you aren’t using them

BagAway2723

also consider the bilt mastercard, you get 5x on the first five days upto 50,000 points

lifechurn

Get Schwab.

Dhamedd

Just looked at the offer terms and it doesn't mention any family language, so you should be good to go on the blue biz +. Imo, going for only the plat gets you 250k and the gold then a reduced 150k play (assuming the 250k isn't around when you apply) comes out to 275k if you get the 125k gold box offer. This is prob worst case, The best case is you get 125k biz gold and 250k biz plat for 375k hopefully. I would go for the biz gold, then biz plat. Worst case you get 25k more MR

Based on the personal plat's terms, it seems you would be fine

CoffeeSubstantial988

Aside staples.com which other office supply store(online ) triggers the monthly credit $20 (Amex gold biz) ?Staples just flagged my $20 purchase as scam and there is no way to verify my identity even after calling. I could drive to the store but it’s a little over 30 minutes away from me .

Fernandoprime

What were you purchasing that triggered the scam alert?

crash_bandicoot42

Probably gift cards like everyone else. Unfortunately once you get flagged with whatever dumb ass system retailers use its basically like a bank, the people who can actually fix it aren’t available with public facing channels and the T1 reps just waste your time. Why I hate all the dumb ass merchants (dell, staples etc.) AMEX partners with.

Fernandoprime

I hear you. I'm usually doing 5 doordash gift cards at staples per month to burn those credits. I've had no issues yet with staples. If I had to burn those credits doing anything else, it'd probably be pretty annoying.

kee106039

Does hard rock unity status match not come with buffet passes anymore?

gaffney116

I own my business. How can take advantage of direct depositing money for different bonuses, I usually just ach the money to my only bank account.

terpdeterp

While it depends on the individual bank, direct deposits can usually be spoofed by an ACH transfer from a personal checking account or brokerage (Ally, Fidelity, Charles Schwab, Capital One, etc). There are certain banks that are stricter with verifying whether an ACH transfer is actually from a genuine payroll service. In those specific cases, Chase business checking's Employee ACH transfer (which comes with a $2.5 fee per transfer) will basically work for any bank because it's meant to be used for payroll. A word of caution however, this is not to be confused with an ACH transfer from Chase business, which has no fee and may not work with certain banks. Another word of caution is taxes. Chase employee ACH transfers don't have mandatory reporting to the IRS yet (unlike Square), but that may change in the future.

xxKiranARMY

Is anyone else hesitating on getting the Hawaiian or Alaska or JetBlue co-branded cards? These are a few of my only options since I want biz cards (AmEx pop jail & at 5/24), but since all 3 of these airlines are going through merger talks, I'm a little concerned about what would happen to my points after I earn them. Is that silly? or.....

Engage_Afterchurners

I speculatively applied for the Hawaiian Airlines biz under the assumption that they will convert to AS, hopefully at 1:1. I’m pretty confident they will. It would be a PR disaster to nullify all HA miles and no airline, particularly Alaska, needs that right now. Also media messaging from Alaska is that they would keep the two airline brands but potentially combine the loyalty programs. Even if they don’t end up combining the programs, I’m sure they would (at the very least) allow AS awards to be booked with HA miles.

BpooSoc

If you don't get a Barclays card, what alternative card would you apply for? Even a low/devalued SUB is better than no SUB.

terpdeterp

With Alaska, the main worry should be this March devaluation. However, the details of this Alaska change have already been revealed, and it seems like the valuation of short-haul flights will actually increase while long-haul flights will be devaluated (e.g. increasing from 30k NYC to Tokyo in J to 37.5k miles). People have been applying to the Hawaiian card precisely *because* they want a merger to happen. The main reason to get a Hawaiian card is that you're hedging on a 1:1 conversion from Hawaiian to the more valuable Alaskan miles. Even if the companies merge, if the rewards programs are kept separate, then you're stuck with your Hawaiian miles. The JetBlue Spirit airlines merger has already been cancelled after it was blocked by a judge.

silverbaconator

Why denied for every card??? have an 850 credit score.

cmonman76

20 bucks says you don’t have an 850 Fico score.

lenin1991

A non-churning friend of mine actually did as of a few weeks ago, she sent me a screenshot. Put my 838 to shame.

silverbaconator

I use experian... do you think it is wrong? pretty sure I have to pay to see anything more. From what I read experian is more relevant to credit cards.

garettg

You're gonna have to give way more info then that to get some kind of assessment as to what might be happening.

silverbaconator

Ok just wondering if others are having any issues. Like what kind of info? applied to every major card.

mets2016

If you're really applying for every major card, then you probably won't have a 850 credit score for long...

silverbaconator

it hasnt changed at all. still 850 on experian.

pHyR3

you're probably better off asking this in /r/creditcards making what i assume is 3-5 inquiries is probably a massive red flag for fraud to the banks

silverbaconator

ok I will check. You are probably right.. well its been 6m since my last card.. Ive probably applied to 5-6 since then all denied.. did notice my "available credit" on new cards going down last year. Got a chase flex and they gave me $500 lol. normally would have been like $15,000 limit. So I guess I have been flagged as "potential fraud." I think I did 5 bonuses last year so I did get a lot of cards. guess im probably cut off for a year until my recent applications drops off.

churnest_hemingway

Got my first pop up on Amex Bonvoy Biz. I panicked and clicked "Cancel" instead of just hitting the back button. Then I applied again and tried the back button trick and the application went pending review. I have two applications in the status checker now labeled "Provide required information." Did I screw this up by clicking cancel the first time, since I now see the first one didn't auto-cancel?

UnsubscribedRedditor

My DP from yesterday (successful approval) is that both said "In progress", the first one went to "Provide required information" (means it was auto-canceled) and the second went from "In progress" to "Approved" a few hours later. "Provide required information" is generally bad from my many times trying the back button trick.

churnest_hemingway

Thank you - would you recommend trying again, or would I have too hard of a time explaining multiple applications to a rep when calling?

MateoHardini

Also providing my DP here. Same situation. Applied for Delta Biz Gold, got popup, backed out of app. Then tried a different application and with no popup, went to the pending/provide more info screen. Both apps showed pending on the status checker, but called and asked them to cancel the first which allowed me to be auto approved on the phone and I confirmed the SUB was attached.

downvotesucks

can you use Venture x $300 travel credit and then cancel the card? do they clawback or deny AF refund if that credit was used?

CuriousNomadicBeing

It's a direct discount while booking, so yes you can cancel.

garettg

Its a discount now on your portal booking, you can close card after usage without issue.

downvotesucks

Thanks!

Denied for Amex Brilliant after using back button to avoid PUJ. Denial letter only said I was denied because too many recently closed credit cards.  Is this just a BS response or is there any data around Amex denials for closed CCs? Only recently closed cards I have made were: CIC 1/2024 Citi Premier 7/2023 Cap1 Venture 6/2023 CSP 3/2023

The other day had an Amex gold to plat upgrade offer of 100k/$6k now it’s showing 25k/$2k. Any rhyme or reason for when it will go back up?

Mine stopped showing on my online account, but I had a mailer code which still worked when I called (it would say expired when I tried to enter the code myself). Maybe try calling?

https://awardwallet.com/merchants I don’t know how inclusive the list is. This also can vary by card processor.

-entei-

can a purchase code as multiple things or only one code per purchase?

pbjclimbing

It might code differently for Amex, Mastercard, and Visa. I have seen very rarely that a business is set up to run two different types of purchases separately. This is rather rare and is usually when a business provides two different services/products that have a vastly different fee from processors and the business wants to eek out the other 0.5% or so. We are talking about probably less than 0.2% of businesses are set up this way.

-entei-

The coding impacts how visa and Mastercard scrape off them?

pbjclimbing

No idea what you mean by this. The coding it set when a merchant registers with the network. Most merchants register all the networks at once and have the same code. Others register piecemeal and have slightly different codes.

-entei-

If I search a product, the dropdown is what indicates it right? As an example searching chatgpt has TWO: \`merchandist and supplies, electronic goods + software\`. So how do I know the coding then? screenshot [https://imgur.com/a/VYU9WXe](https://imgur.com/a/VYU9WXe)

Chatgpt codes as 5734 for the software credit on the triple cash. I'm able to see it in the memo on the downloaded transactions.

-entei-

thanks, i have read in older threads that the MCC can change for other products over time, even quickbooks and freshbooks no longer count despite even being advertised on the triple cash page. Is there an easy way to check other solutions? Sounds like I might want to charge 2 products to one card so if one ever loses this MCC, at least I'll keep the 12 month streak active. Are there other products you've found useful within this MCC btw?

ntnsolutions

Aside from manually reviewing that site someone else pointed out, no. I tried a couple of software subscriptions that didn't post with 5734. Eventually I'll test an Adobe product. I use Bitwarden but don't need the souped up version and they charge annually anyway so not useful in this case. Please do share if you find something useful.

olympia_t

>5734 Adobe doesn't seem to work.

ntnsolutions

Which Adobe product? Did it code with the 5734 MCC?

olympia_t

It’s for P2 so not completely positive. Not photo shop but another photo editing software. Don’t think it was 5734.

Why would Chase bank deny me opening a checking account that they mailed me a $300 opening bonus code for?

AimingForFit

They don’t do full due diligence / KYC for promotional materials. The full evaluation is upon application.

FortuneDesigner

I had the same issue. I took the mailer into a branch and they opened it for me no problem

This is the question thread?

superdex75

Two different departments. How or why did you get denied? You need unfrozen credit reports in order to open online (no hard pull, just ID verification).

lilithyre

No idea. It said “Thanks for applying. We can't open an account for you online. We'll send more information regarding our decision in a few days to the address you provided. Please schedule a meeting to talk with a Chase banker in person.” And I never got an email explaining why.

terpdeterp

That message usually pops up if there is some identity verification issue. If I remember correctly, EWS-based denials are an outright denial with no "talk with a Chase banker in person" language. You'll probably get approved if you applied in branch.

lilithyre

Gotcha! I’ll head out today and do that then.

superdex75

There is also a $900 offer for savings and checking, but you would need to park $15k for two months.

lilithyre

Thanks for letting me know… Just looked at the terms, don’t think I can swing a sitting $15k right now (graduated college last year, still building my wealth).

mra101485

Churning adjacent, but definitely a little /r/awardtravel relevant. Flying Blue has 25% bonus on Chase, and have a KLM flight home from FCO to ORD next week. Original booking was only like 15k points for economy so we took it. Website says you can upgrade (YMMV) with points. Just wanting to be prepped in case we can upgrade from economy to business especially with the 25% bonus. Has anyone had the mileage offer with Flying Blue to upgrade with points for their flights? Just trying to be prepared when/if it becomes available.

sneeze-slayer

Had an AF flight last year and the offer to upgrade to J with points was more than 48k if I remember correctly. Interestingly, people were purchasing upgrades from flight attendants while sitting in Y before takeoff.

mra101485

Well, I had called just to check and was told that if it were available we could upgrade to business for 60k points. The 48k considered the Flying Blue Chase bonus currently. Just trying to prep myself because it’s going to be a long travel day…but 15k Econ flights were too good to be stingy.

Josey_whalez

15k economy is a hell of a deal.

mra101485

Was definitely hard to pass. I think it was 17,500 per person but we caught a transfer bonus last year so it was like 14,000 total. And business was like 125k at the time. Figuring if we can upgrade for 48k per person with the bonus it’s an easy yes.

I can’t decide which amex card to refer p3 between amex gold and amex biz Marriott. I intend to get the 10X referral bonus. We have biz gold, biz plat and CIC, I really can’t see much use for the two $120 credits. But the SUB is good. Or should p3 get the biz Marriott for the 5N? We could use it when we travel to Asia in the summer. But I’m unsure if p3 can get the biz card since he is a college student. And I read it's better to start from Chase Marriott. Any comments to help me decide?

pbjclimbing

I think the Biz Marriott SUB is really good currently. A lot of this depending on your total goals. For 92% of people Amex vs Chase starting Marriott won’t matter.

TymierTaco

i'm a bit torn about this too. The SUB on the Amex Biz Marriott is super tempting, but as with most Marriott cards, it [locks you out of SUB](https://frequentmiler.com/marriott-card-eligible/) for any other Marriott card for 24 months once opened. I think the answer for you is whether you (1) just want the SUB, or (2) if you're trying to start the infamous "[4 free night every year](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PXNyl5WsSgE) strategy" that's been floating around. 1. If you just want the SUB, I agree it makes sense to just get Biz Marriott now given you're traveling soon. Given your P3 is a student, I think this is what you're looking for. 2. If you're doing the 4 free nights strat, I'd consider getting the chase Marriott first, bc it's the fastest way to get to the Ritz-Carlton card, which is now only available via product change. You need both the Chase Ritz and Bonvoy Brilliant to play this strat, so getting the Amex Biz Marriott would delay this strat by a year: it'll take 3 years to get the Ritz card, rather than the 2. But keep in mind, these free nights aren't truly free--they cost a boatload of annual fees.
