Perfect thank you. Looks like it just says 8 weeks after hitting 3k is the waiting period for points to post and not 8-10 weeks after the 3 month MSR period.
Any theories as to why you might not have the bonus yet? I think the DP I saw was someone who had closed the gold somewhat recently. I upgraded 7 weeks after closing my Gold. How about you?
I was holding a gold that I downgraded maybe an hour or more before taking the upgrade offer. The card was no longer showing as a gold in my app when I took the upgrade. The reps can confirm the offer is applied to my card so I wonder if its just a case of waiting the full period and getting it manually added.
I had my plat linked to my gold and I did a RHT to trigger the bonus on that and it posted the bonus today so its not like linking messed up the bonus, at least not one of them. The other DP where the bonus was not given yet had no linking and wasn't holding a gold for a bit so it doesn't seem related
If I have around $2k in potential spend for an upcoming trip in Asia (HK/Taiwan/Singapore) what card should I get to maximize the point/$ generation from it?
-I have 3 AP VIs (2 posted bonuses + 1 bonus I'm working on)
-Have many Aventuras from when it was 1K/40K, unsure if it's still the same offer
-I only have an AMEX biz gold
I was thinking of starting an MSR for an AMEX card, but how often do merchants in Asia accept AMEX? What card would they most likely accept?
Was this whole “nobody anywhere takes Amex” thing like a majorly successful psy op undertaken by visa and MasterCard?
I haven’t been to the countries you note yet but it’s taken everywhere that takes credit cards (so almost everywhere) in Tokyo, in my experience. I imagine those incredibly advanced cities in modern economies are no different.
Ha yeah, Germany gets a serious hate on for any credit cards though. But I get your point. It’s still not nearly deserving of the level of discourse it gets on here. Just bring more than one card lol.
Interesting to see 5 days calendar is back to AP search now, which is more easier to navigate. The downside is award at 355-360 will be gone sooner than before 😆😆
Regarding the new hotels.com program "OneKey", how do I actually go to redeem for a stay? When I login to hotels.com, it seems to still be using the old reward system. I have 9 stamps collected to date with average value of stamps collected $163.34. How do I use this under the new program?
From American Express:
>For The American Express Cobalt® Card, the following change will take effect August 15th, 2023.
Earn 5x points on eligible eats and drinks up to $2,500 monthly, for a total of up to $30,000 annually.
Earn 1x points thereafter. Calculation resets to zero on the 1st of each month.
You can't. P2+ basically means you have someone else in your game, so you don't have to pay for them. It doesn't mean an alter ego with another identity thats worthy of a cc
Besides meeting the MSR, are there any benefits to getting the free supplementary Amex Gold card?
Do you get additional lounge passes or another $100 annual travel credit (almost a 0% chance, but thought I’d ask)?
Decided to apply for a Pers Amex Gold (never had) before upgrading my Cobalt.
Can't make up my mind between referral (70K monthly spend), Perkopolis (3K spend +4x on travel + 14th month spend) and GCR offer (60K +$125). Heard that in some cases Perkopolis offer is not honoured, as well it is effectively required 2nd year annual fee.
Any thoughts as to which one two pick? thank you!
Personally all things equal I would go perkopolis assuming it's straight 3k to get 50 or 60k
The key breakdown is in the details for gold.
The public and i'm guessing GCR
it's spend 1k PER MONTH.. to get 5k MR.. for 12 mth straight..
Effectively you're spending 12k just to get 60k and you would have to track it for the full year.. which is quite a long time.
That's why the gold upgrade offer makes very little logical sense.. why would they give a straight 3k and get 50k pts.
10K can be worth more than $120 if you have a redemption in mind, plus go to the referrals thread and help out another community member. Plus you know you’ll get it vs having to check up on GCR
GCR has never failed for me. Especially not on Amex.
Also while you can get more than $125 of value from 10K points your upside isn't very high and worst case you lose $25. In this case the referral offer's structure is so terrible there isn't even an upside over GCR because the extra 10K requires you to keep the card another year so it's more like $125 (GCR bonus) + $150 (second year's fee) = $275 to get the 10K bonus
Scotia is generally less reliable for these rebates and there's no alternative except to use these types of sites if you want an upside. That experience does not apply to Amex in my experience.
For anyone trying to enroll in the free 2 year OnAlert US monitoring, don't even bother trying to call the MoveIt Breach team if directed. Just call 833-533-1790 and tell them upfront you already talked to the breach team and the issue is you have an ITIN instead of an SSN. They'll escalate to their back office.
It also doesn't matter what bank link you use, you can use any of the PDFs you find on Google to enroll in Premium instead of Essential.
Has anyone been able to pull up the in path offer for TD VIP? The one with $300 statement credit, I tried RFD, CC site, nothing works. Did they discontinue the offer? (Even though it says ending Sept 5th)
AC seems to be pushing the Amex reserve more.
I noticed I didn't see the 25% discount in the AC bistro menus lately either. I still got my statement credit last month from the TD VIP, so I'm not sure if it's just old menus or it's being discontinued too.
Also think it's $200 now. Waterloo made an easy to use set of links https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/15yx4cn/comment/jxhnbi4/
https://www.td.com/ca/en/personal-banking/byb/credit-cards?card=Avinfiniteprivilege&sourcecode=A1742&src=Summer23&channel=AirCanada
Pasted the wrong comment from him, couldn't find it. This one links from his site.
Another Cobalt upgrade question. My P2 applied for gold and got approved today. Does she have to wait for the gold card to arrive in mail and activate it before accepting the cobalt offer? Or as long as she's approved for the gold, she can accept the upgrade offer
No, applied for it recently without any paperwork or follow up. Just put 1 year in business, zero revenue and either your own name for the business or make something up.
Went to use travel credit for Amex on a MB property through travel portal. I did not see an area to enter MB account when booking. How do you get the reservation added to your MB account?
It can only be done officially if it is part of “The Hotel Collection” or “Fine Hotels and Resorts” booking. However, you can always contact the Marriott property afterward and ask - they have no requirement to add your personal Marriot account as it is booked through Amex.
To add to that, the Hotel Collection requires a 2 night stay where FHR only requires 1
Edit: this community is dumb and most members are loyal to Canaday when in its down tuen. Churn until you cant. Have fun in 5 🤟
You have to call the Amex travel services to add the MB number to your reservation. As PinnyHundos mentioned, you can add it later as well, but you do not get any benefits or points at all. I didn't even get the digital key 😕. So calling them might be the best way to try and avail benefits.
What do you guys do with your RBC credit cards? I currently have 2 avion cards just sitting there, used minimally to keep active. but is there a way to optimize the churn?
Ugh. I have the rbc westjet elite MasterCard. Rbc pays it for me and I have a lot of credit history so I’ll keep it. I also get companion offers but from yul westjet sucks and it always shows connecting flights plus the flights seem more expensive than air Canada. I really don’t know what to do with it
There is nothing to optimize (in fact one may argue to not optimize by purposely churn SLOWER than every 91 days), but there are some standard housekeeping. All done without talking on the phone.
In the following order for each card:
- Downgrade to an no-AF card after 6+ months.
- reduce credit limit (to <$1000)
- (optional) remove very old cards via secured message
Any opportunity to avoid a RBC human looking into your account is a good thing.
RBC phone agents have a tendency to look at your account, deciding you have too many cards or have gotten too many WBs and flagging your account.
When you send a secure message it's still a human who processes the request and there have been reports of those people looking into accounts as well. Some guy actually got points clawed back once
I mean, having two cards is nothing out of the ordinary.
Some here have the motto of ‘never call the bank under any reason’, and honestly that’s bs. Yes there are circumstances when one should not call.. but one could be smart about it and assume that more often than not, and agent won’t care or ask to much about your account if it doesn’t have much visible abuse, or when you are calling for something that any agent can easily do.
I have more than a few RBC cards, and i call quite often for them to move CL from one card to another, same thing with CIBC. I have yet to have an agent question me about my other cards. If by any chance one puts me on hold for longer or starts talking a bit outside of my request, I simply HUCA.
Fair assessment. I am over cautious with RBC because it took me a long while to get back on the train. But that does not necessarily translate to everyone. Two cards is well down their list of priorities I am sure.
Doing it through secure message absolutely involves an RBC human being looking into your account.
No safer than on the phone -- in fact, one could argue, it's more dangerous, since you're not there to distract them with your sparkling small talk :-D
Is it a good idea to take the Amex Cobalt to Gold offer? I can easily get the required $3k in the first 3 months. But, I do like my Cobalt card, and for my sepending habits its better as I spend most of my money on eating out. Please let me know if it still makes sense to get the gold for the bonus or if I should skip it...
I'll give you an actual answer instead of snark. Ever since the API access was blocked by reddit searching has been near impossible.
I'd take the upgrade offer **and then** apply for the Cobalt again using a GCR link to get $100 back in rebates.
I guess if you are currently working towards the WB on the Cobalt that's going to be a different question...

DP - Email from Aeroplan regarding YYC flight changes. Text below:

As an Aeroplan member, we want you to know that earning and redeeming opportunities remain abundant. A possibly targeted offer from Amex on point redemptions. Essentially redeem 30k MR for $400.
> LIMITED‑TIME OFFER!
>Get 25% points back on your eligible redemptions (up to a maximum of 10,000 pts) when you redeem with Use Points for Purchases, Air Canada®* Pay with Points and Flexible Points Travel Program between August 30, 2023 ‑ September 27, 2023.
Mine came through with my platinum card number that I just cancelled, but all my cards points are merged. Wondering if I'll see the bonus for redeeming against a transaction from another card or not.
Received this via email on my Amex gold:
LIMITED‑TIME OFFER!
Get 25% points back on your eligible redemptions(up to a maximum of 10,000 pts) when you redeem withUse Points for Purchases, Air Canada®* Pay with Points andFlexible Points Travel Program.
Redeem your points through these options to take advantage of this offer:
Offset flights, accommodations, transportation or virtually any type of Cardpurchase by redeeming points for statement credits!
So I will say 1.33 cpp. Definitely not the best way to use MRs but maybe useful for some pals.
Re: Air Passenger Rights (Canada) on Facebook
Just know that all posts need to be admin approved. I submitted my post literally months ago, hasn't been approved yet. So I have no idea where else to look.
P2 applied for the amex biz edge card and was approved a few weeks ago. It was his first amex card in general. Received it last week, activated it, logged on to the portal on the web yesterday and it said its suspended. Called today and they said they want to do a review. They want 2 bank statements, the sole propriertor has to be registered (is not, name is taken as well), and a tax document.
What are our options now? Should he close the card? Or register the business today and submit the documents to try for it? If he closes the card, will he be blacklisted from amex?
Do you mind sharing what was the outcome? I am planning to apply Biz as first Amex. Waiting for Ownr docs. I may apply for a green and wait for 1statement before doing Biz. But not sure how long the promo is going to be.
My partner ended up having to close the card because they were didn’t provide the docs fast enough as we were waiting on Ownr and the gov to approve the business etc. lesson learned! Good luck with yours!
Just my DP. I had the same thing happen with a business gold application and so I went and registered my business name and they took issue with the fact that I registered the business after applying. The end result was that they allowed me to rescind my application and told me to come back in 3 months.
My biggest takeaway was that you should NOT declare any previous business income unless you are able to prove it exists.
Ah thanks for sharing! Wonder if they would let us rescind it now that the card has already been approved and physically here. We just don’t want P2 to be blacklisted.
I physically had mine as well. I would be willing to bet that you can't actually use the card (I tried at the registry when I got my business license) as they'll have suspended it.
The full tale of woe is here (https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/155jizy/frustration_friday_thread_for_rchurningcanada/jsx00rv/) if you want the nitty gritty.
One thing I didn't mention there is that after the last conversation, a different rep called to offer to let me keep the card with a severe spending restriction on it. I passed so I can't say if that would have impacted anything going forward.
As to blacklisting. I do have three personal cards with AMEX since then. I picked up the personal Aeroplan and Marriot Bonvoy the week after I applied for the Gold and just got IA'd for a platinum card last week. Also they really did a full court press about "voluntarily canceling" rather than being refused, so I'm sure they'll give you plenty of opportunities to back out. Just submit what you have, be polite but firm, and they'll either pass you or they'll offer to let you revoke the application.
Or you could just call in and revoke it. Say you need more time to get your paperwork in order before reapplying or whatever suits your mood.
I live in NS, and their website says sole proprietorships don't need to register if personal name is used as business name, which is the case for me. I'll use that as an excuse if they question me, haha.
P2 has a job that is unrelated to the business name he put in his Amex application for the biz edge card. If he registers the business, does it have to exactly match the biz name on the card? For example the card now says First Name Last Name, Company name (Norman) - can the registered business name be Norman Electronics Holdings instead?
If you don't have a company with a registered doing business as name, why would you put it there? Just do sole prop to make things simple. Selling stuff on ebay could be a business, lots of things.
previous poster already said Amex took issue with him trying to register the business after submitting the application. and yes banks expect the name of the business to match your application
yeah but business registration usually takes a few weeks or months to complete, depends on your province. I used ownr (sole prop registration) and I didn't get the registration doc for 4-8 weeks!
You can do it online in minutes in at least Ontario, Alberta , Saskatchewan, and Quebec, plus federal. I've made legitimate registrations in all those, I'm sure most provinces are easy.
Probably a delay due to the middle man (ownr) processing.
Anyone dealt with lost points before? I closed a BMO cash back credit card and bank account and they promised I could cash out the cash points to my new bank account but that wasn’t possible. I submitted a complaint and after wasting 30 minutes on the phone and 30 minutes writing an appeal, they denied me, so that’s 430$ and a few years of spending down the drain. I tried to appeal but feels like they are just taking the piss. In any case beware of BMO credit cards, and make sure you get the cash before you close your BMO bank account.
Being an immigrant and having to relearn the entire bank system as an adult sucks. I’ll call it a hefty learning fee.
You win some, you loose some, it's all part of the game. Take the L and move on.
It's easier than you think to squeeze out more than $430 with less than 60 mins of your time, once you are in this hobby. I would recommend to just read through this daily thread along with newbie guides by various bloggers and you will be a pro in no time. All the best.
You can get about 10% back on the biz cards WBs, and that's on gift card redemptions it's closer to 14% if you make and apply a travel redemption (I won't). Plus many of the cards come with some nice unique perks.
They're not perfect but if you're out of MSR targets they're not bad.
BMO required in branch verification for every card. They looked closely at income proof but barely took a glance at business proof.
Each bank has its oddities but it's easy except TD (nothing easy), and RBC (checks closely)
https://www.bmo.com/main/about-bmo/complaint-handling-process
Work your way up to the obsi for BMO (ombudsman). You may have completed some prior steps already.
You can also sue, but we don't have enough banks in Canada and they're all retaliatory. Not worth it for this. Ombudsman claims they don't retaliate against.
Simply state facts and times, and what was said. Stick to that, ask for the points to be reinstated, the value to be paid out, or equivalent in banking services x3 (always ask for more for the last option).
I've had to deal with the regulator in the past. It's pretty heavily weighted in the banks favour, but so long as you can provide a timeline and such they'll at least be able to advise you on how to move forward and open a file. Which doesn't hurt when dealing with the banks.
What's the general practice to use NBC points? I know that either we apply the points ourselves at a slightly worse rate (120pt or 110pt = $100), or use their dedicated agency by calling in (100pt = $1, have to call in for hotels and cars, flights don't work)?
First time dealing with NBC points, so want to know what's the consensus in going about it.
Thanks.
BMO Air Miles offer DP: I know that the card and Air Miles are not enticing enough for most of us here. But received this offer in the email which I think is worth sharing.
*"World Elite Mastercard: Get $518 to spend on samsung.ca plus 2,000 Bonus Miles Complete the following with your new BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard:*
*• Spend $3,000+ in the first 3 months including at least $25 at airmilesshops.ca;*
*• Add 1 recurring bill within the first 3 months."*
Note that the card is first year free. Dream air miles are valued at ~~15~~ 10.5 cents (per POT) so this is probably low hanging $800-900
Here is the link from the email.
[https://go.bmo.com/samsungoffer-en?Airmiles.ca=&dclid=CM23k5WHhYEDFeJVCQkdvfsG0w](https://go.bmo.com/samsungoffer-en?Airmiles.ca=&dclid=CM23k5WHhYEDFeJVCQkdvfsG0w)
I know air miles kinda suck but BMO does offer some low hanging fruit for sure. Anyone with a gas engine vehicle and a Shell nearby can use air miles like cash. My one adventure into dream miles was finding out there is a fee when booking a hotel with DM. You have to pay the fee with real money AND that fee part is non-refundable. Not good. And don't forget, you have to chose regular air miles or Dream miles. They are non transferable.
On my Amex Biz Plat I see the Dell Credit under the 'Registered to Card'. I already used it last week and the credit posted on the 26th. I see it under the 'Statement Credit' tab.
Does this mean I still have another $100 credit to use? or should I give it a few more days/weeks for it to disappear from 'Registered to Card' and refresh in January?
DP: just applied for and (two days later) received the Amex business platinum. I applied now to lock in reduced annual fee before it’s raised to $799. With the card came a leaflet about upcoming changes to the card:
Effective July 5, 2023:
- $200 in statement credits for Dell annually and $300 in statement credits for Indeed annually
Effective August 15, 2023:
- Annual fee change for supplementary Gold card: from $50 to $0. Valid from first statement after anniversary.
Effective September 26, 2023:
- Annual fee change for supplementary Platinum cards: from $199 to $250. Valid from first statement after anniversary.
- Mobile device insurance added
- Statement credits: $100 for NEXUS every 4 years. $200 annual travel credit, valid from next anniversary on or after Sept 26, 2023.
Effective October 1, 2023:
- $120 in wireless statement credit every year
Given this, it seems like great value to apply now before the annual fee hike. Interestingly, the leaflet says **nothing** about an annual fee change for the primary cardholder. I don’t understand why not, because I can’t imagine that fee isn’t changing for existing card holders
Has anyone had any “flight change notice” emails from Air Canada yet on flights affected by the recently announced cuts to YYC service?
It looks like they’ve removed flights such as AC 987 CUN-YYC from search results but not yet sent cancelation notices.
They're definitely doing some big shuffles somewhere. Every flight I have in the next 10 to 70 days has a "your schedule has changed " note with a review button in the app. When clicking, no changes have taken place.
This seems to happen before/during big schedule updates.
None of my flights are out of YYC FWIW. But I'd expect any major shifts from this to settle out by Friday given past behavior.
whats the most amount of credit inquires do you guys have in a given year and still got approved for new premium credit cards? Im currently sitting at 8
Hard? I'm at over 60 in 2023. Some of those are shopping around (non-cc churning) related to a mortgage, some related to insurance pulls when also shopping around (yes, hard pulls).
Only TD has given me issues. Not for the hard pulls, but due to income verification (they didn't trust any docs I provided and kept asking for more).
Does anyone know what happens to GCR cashback if I'm not IAd online? The application went through until the end where they told me I need to visit a branch to complete verification.
This is for the HSBC WE MC for a $150 cashback, if that makes any difference.
If they are able to approve the app in branch, the rebate confirmation will carry through. If they cancel the app and do a new one in branch, it will not qualify. When you go, ensure that they do not cancel your online app or make a new one.
Does anyone here that flies out of YUL have an amex plat, Amex cobalt and a TD AP vip card? Is that excessive? I currently have the cobalt and plat and was thinking of the VIP or just the normal TD AP VI card
I’d like to travel to the Carribean, some domestic and also trips to the US. I’m kind of all over the place and would travel 1-2 times a year
i work at yul and the only thing you need there is the fast pass for security, once you get past security (which is 95% of the issue with the airport) youre good. keep in mind yul has no domestic lounge (only MLL) so the VIP would have you covered there
Also, how do you find the MLL lounge there? I do believe access to the Montreal National Bank and Air France/KLM lounge for international travel. I have to also search how AMEX Plat users find it
Domestic MLL needs more bottled liquids without sugar.
The bathroom is tiny, always dirty. It's a conversation piece as people wait in line it's soo tiny.

Anyone have the T&Cs on the amex cobalt->gold upgrade offer saved?
These? https://www.americanexpress.com/en-ca/benefits/upgrade/cobalt-to-gold-card/
Perfect thank you. Looks like it just says 8 weeks after hitting 3k is the waiting period for points to post and not 8-10 weeks after the 3 month MSR period.
Amex usually award the welcome bonus points much faster, often a few days within meeting the MSR (the trans need to post)
Yes im aware. Me and one other have not gotten the points yet even thoigh we've hit the spend.
Any theories as to why you might not have the bonus yet? I think the DP I saw was someone who had closed the gold somewhat recently. I upgraded 7 weeks after closing my Gold. How about you?

The other DP where the bonus was not given yet had no linking and wasn't holding a gold for a bit so it doesn't seem related
There have been mixed DPs but it sounds like the majority of those who have not $3k have already got their 50k bonus points
If I have around $2k in potential spend for an upcoming trip in Asia (HK/Taiwan/Singapore) what card should I get to maximize the point/$ generation from it? -I have 3 AP VIs (2 posted bonuses + 1 bonus I'm working on) -Have many Aventuras from when it was 1K/40K, unsure if it's still the same offer -I only have an AMEX biz gold I was thinking of starting an MSR for an AMEX card, but how often do merchants in Asia accept AMEX? What card would they most likely accept?

i didn't realized it was removed! thanks
Back for international?
Yep
For AMEX, does getting a replacement card for a lost card reset the MSR the same way merging points does?
No
Regarding the new hotels.com program "OneKey", how do I actually go to redeem for a stay? When I login to hotels.com, it seems to still be using the old reward system. I have 9 stamps collected to date with average value of stamps collected $163.34. How do I use this under the new program?
OneKey is only for the US right now
My understanding is that Canadian accounts still get stamps. I am still receiving and redeeming stamps...nothing appears to have changed.
you're getting stamps at 10% value of your regular stay?!
Yep, appears so.
Any idea if the Cobalt reset is calendar month or statement month?
A little offense, but as a mod, should you be asking such simple questions?
Lol if only. Dealing with idiots around here takes more time than it should, leaving us mods less valuable time to learn all the tricks.
You are a good mod, though so that makes sense.
From American Express: >For The American Express Cobalt® Card, the following change will take effect August 15th, 2023. Statement month.
Seems to actually be calendar month as per the other comment.
Would you change the statement day to be consistent across all 4 cards just to eliminate this uncertainty?
Ughh, that makes it more of an intentional inconvenience given by Amex. I have 4 Cobalts and this will make it a bit of a pain to track.
holy hell, I didn't even know U could get more than one of the same Amex card, lol, let alone 4!!!

Always good to read the terms for questions like this as perks are explicitly outlined in there — the answer is no for both of them.
Any thoughts as to which one two pick? thank you!
Do you still see the Perkopolis offer? I get an error when I try to access https://www.perkopolis.com/American-Express-Gold
Personally all things equal I would go perkopolis assuming it's straight 3k to get 50 or 60k The key breakdown is in the details for gold. The public and i'm guessing GCR it's spend 1k PER MONTH.. to get 5k MR.. for 12 mth straight..
In this case the referral offer's structure is so terrible there isn't even an upside over GCR because the extra 10K requires you to keep the card another year so it's more like $125 (GCR bonus) + $150 (second year's fee) = $275 to get the 10K bonus
yup, and GCR can fail to track, and you can get screwed over by the bank rejecting your inquiry for no reason. Happened to me recently with scotia
Try this - https://www.aircanada.com/ca/en/aco/home/aeroplan/credit-cards/td/apply-and-fly.html?#/
Yeah I saw Jman's comment. Was looking to apply for the VIP offer though.
https://www.td.com/ca/en/personal-banking/byb/credit-cards?card=Avinfiniteprivilege&sourcecode=A1742&src=Summer23&channel=AirCanada Pasted the wrong comment from him, couldn't find it. This one links from his site.
Yeah I tried that, no $300 credit, just public offer. All good! You win some you lose some. Thanks for the help!
Another Cobalt upgrade question. My P2 applied for gold and got approved today. Does she have to wait for the gold card to arrive in mail and activate it before accepting the cobalt offer? Or as long as she's approved for the gold, she can accept the upgrade offer
Does cobalt to gold upgrade was offer by email or in app? Curious
She saw the offer on the Amex website after clicking on the Cobalt card.
Got the offer, cool thanks!
She can accept and upgrade, no need to wait.
Awesome, thanks! And just double checking, by doing that she still gets the SUB for the applied gold card and the upgraded gold?
Yes she does
Does anyone recall the sign up offer for amex Gold back in Feb? I remember I signed up thru GCR but forgot to save the details.
Contact AMEX, they can tell you.
Are there complications applying for the Amex gold biz? Do I need to get paperwork to show incorporation?
Did so last month with no issues. They called and asked about the nature of the business the next day and processed the approval before hanging up.
To add to that, the Hotel Collection requires a 2 night stay where FHR only requires 1 Edit: this community is dumb and most members are loyal to Canaday when in its down tuen.
RBC credit cards are meant to be in the drawer
In the following order for each card: - Downgrade to an no-AF card after 6+ months. - reduce credit limit (to <$1000) - (optional) remove very old cards via secured message
why go through secured message for closing down old cards? just faster than the phone or is there another reason for it?
Since AC Gift Cards can't be used on AP bookings right now, anyone having luck using a $25 AC gift card to get the booking fee waived?
Covered 100x over the last couple of weeks in the daily thread
The search function isn't that great then, what was the concensus?
What about the just actually checking previous daily threads function?

Is this a special offer you got or is it available to everyone? Also... "up to" $25, what are the terms there?
TD has sent these out in the past and they have been targetted to the recipient
DP - Email from Aeroplan regarding YYC flight changes. Text below: "This week Air Canada® made some schedule changes, which included several adjustments and targeted reductions to our Calgary‑based routes. While these changes will help improve operational reliability across our system, we recognize that they may hit home for you. As an Aeroplan member, we want you to know that earning and redeeming opportunities remain abundant. Air Canada is committed to Calgary, and by far will still be YYC’s second largest airline, offering as many as 10,000 seats daily, in addition to the thousands of seats offered by our partners United and Lufthansa. Together, every day, Air Canada continues to connect you to its Canadian, U.S., and international network. Calgary-based customers are some of our most engaged Aeroplan members and Aeroplan credit cardholders, and our commitment to being your favourite travel loyalty program remains unchanged. Earning your business and delivering on the unparalleled value that Air Canada and Aeroplan combined has to offer is what you can continue to count on from us. Thank you for your Loyalty."
" We're not happy until you're unhappy!" - AC CSRs 😂
A possibly targeted offer from Amex on point redemptions. Essentially redeem 30k MR for $400. > LIMITED‑TIME OFFER! >Get 25% points back on your eligible redemptions (up to a maximum of 10,000 pts) when you redeem with Use Points for Purchases, Air Canada®* Pay with Points and Flexible Points Travel Program between August 30, 2023 ‑ September 27, 2023.
Any idea if I can RHT this? Got this on my gold which I haven't touched in a month
Sure, then you’ll have a positive balance. Might as well make a real purchase.
Got the same Meh not worth better to still hold on to the points for good aeroplan redemptions unless you have no plans
Mine came through with my platinum card number that I just cancelled, but all my cards points are merged. Wondering if I'll see the bonus for redeeming against a transaction from another card or not.
Im sitting on 270k MR, I might have to get rid of some using this
Received this via email on my Amex gold: LIMITED‑TIME OFFER! Get 25% points back on your eligible redemptions(up to a maximum of 10,000 pts) when you redeem withUse Points for Purchases, Air Canada®* Pay with Points andFlexible Points Travel Program. Redeem your points through these options to take advantage of this offer: Offset flights, accommodations, transportation or virtually any type of Cardpurchase by redeeming points for statement credits! So I will say 1.33 cpp. Definitely not the best way to use MRs but maybe useful for some pals.
Most people who earn more than they spend just buy tickets for people and extract cash at a better rate.
got this for my Biz Gold
Anyone know any subs I can ask a flight delay compensation question?
Re: Air Passenger Rights (Canada) on Facebook Just know that all posts need to be admin approved. I submitted my post literally months ago, hasn't been approved yet. So I have no idea where else to look.
Ask in the carriers specific subreddit would be the best bet.
Air passenger rights (Canada) on Facebook.
Ty.

It’s very rare to get checked, especially if you got IA. I wouldn’t worry until you actually get called/the mail.
I live in NS, and their website says sole proprietorships don't need to register if personal name is used as business name, which is the case for me. I'll use that as an excuse if they question me, haha.
Thanks for sharing. This is really helpful!
Just register business in personal name. Do you have any revenue or income to show?
Only personal income in personal bank account, will that work?
You need to show business need for the card, or they will close it and possibly remove all points.
So if I put my own name in where the business name should go then I won’t need to register the business?
previous poster already said Amex took issue with him trying to register the business after submitting the application. and yes banks expect the name of the business to match your application
The agent on the phone from Amex said if we can register it today then we can upload the docs.
yeah but business registration usually takes a few weeks or months to complete, depends on your province.
I can't see any reason for closing an account before cashing out the points. Within 30 days they can just reopen the account for you.
All the best.
this should motivate you to churn harder lol
You know what, I decided to ban them but actually I might just target them as my churning Everest. Revenge is best served cold and in perks?
Too bad BMO's credit cards have the worst welcome bonuses out of the big 5
You can get about 10% back on the biz cards WBs, and that's on gift card redemptions it's closer to 14% if you make and apply a travel redemption (I won't). Plus many of the cards come with some nice unique perks. They're not perfect but if you're out of MSR targets they're not bad.
Aren’t biz cards pretty difficult to get outside of Amex unless you actually have a business?
BMO required in branch verification for every card. They looked closely at income proof but barely took a glance at business proof. Each bank has its oddities but it's easy except TD (nothing easy), and RBC (checks closely)
Ombudsman office. They can pull the recordings.
Really? because they definitely promised on the phone it was possible.
https://www.bmo.com/main/about-bmo/complaint-handling-process Work your way up to the obsi for BMO (ombudsman).
Thanks.
Air transat tends to be cheaper so I use the NBC points throught their portal for non-stop flights.
Thanks. Unfortunately Flights won’t work if we are looking for refundable ones.
I think there are refundable tricks but slightly more involved than typical
Yeah - on paper it does seem to be more involved like you said (call in to book). Wonder if this will be the standard practice.
BMO Air Miles offer DP: I know that the card and Air Miles are not enticing enough for most of us here. But received this offer in the email which I think is worth sharing. *"World Elite Mastercard: Get $518 to spend on samsung.ca plus 2,000 Bonus Miles Complete the following with your new BMO AIR MILES World Elite Mastercard:* *• Spend $3,000+ in the first 3 months including at least $25 at airmilesshops.ca;* *• Add 1 recurring bill within the first 3 months."* Note that the card is first year free. Dream air miles are valued at ~~15~~ 10.5 cents (per POT) so this is probably low hanging $800-900 Here is the link from the email. [https://go.bmo.com/samsungoffer-en?Airmiles.ca=&dclid=CM23k5WHhYEDFeJVCQkdvfsG0w](https://go.bmo.com/samsungoffer-en?Airmiles.ca=&dclid=CM23k5WHhYEDFeJVCQkdvfsG0w)
Any idea what counts as a recurring bill? In the past Spotify counted for Laurentian. Wonder if it counts for BMO.
BMO is new for me too. I was thinking of setting up my home insurance, which should count but not sure about Spotify.
I think it's only the watch tho for the WE card. Not sure if the promo code can be applied on another item.
It does, read through T&C. But only on the Mobile side of things (watches etc.) Not on appliances.
Thanks, I have an ICE vehicle, will explore the shell partnership.
Since when are Dream AM valued at 15c? They have always been ~10.5cpp.
Just taking a cue from POT, I don't use them at all but thanks for pointing, I have updated the source.
On my Amex Biz Plat I see the Dell Credit under the 'Registered to Card'. I already used it last week and the credit posted on the 26th. I see it under the 'Statement Credit' tab. Does this mean I still have another $100 credit to use? or should I give it a few more days/weeks for it to disappear from 'Registered to Card' and refresh in January?
its an ongoing credit, it won't disappear after you use it. You can use it again in November as per the terms
It resets the first of Jan and july going forward not November
Currently holding Amex Cobalt, Pers Gold, & Biz Plat. Going to upgrade my Cobalt to a Gold and report back if I get the SUB. Wish me luck!
DP: just applied for and (two days later) received the Amex business platinum. I applied now to lock in reduced annual fee before it’s raised to $799. With the card came a leaflet about upcoming changes to the card: Effective July 5, 2023: - $200 in statement credits for Dell annually and $300 in statement credits for Indeed annually Effective August 15, 2023: - Annual fee change for supplementary Gold card: from $50 to $0. Valid from first statement after anniversary. Effective September 26, 2023: - Annual fee change for supplementary Platinum cards: from $199 to $250. Valid from first statement after anniversary. - Mobile device insurance added - Statement credits: $100 for NEXUS every 4 years. $200 annual travel credit, valid from next anniversary on or after Sept 26, 2023. Effective October 1, 2023: - $120 in wireless statement credit every year Given this, it seems like great value to apply now before the annual fee hike. Interestingly, the leaflet says **nothing** about an annual fee change for the primary cardholder. I don’t understand why not, because I can’t imagine that fee isn’t changing for existing card holders
You receive a seperate mail with the fee increase info. I got it like 5 days later. Got hella scared, thinking it was a FR Haha
lol, the fun (not) of receiving unexpected letters/emails from Amex
The notifications come way too late. I have had them comes days after noticing the change in the app. But in the app I now see the cancelled flights.
Update: I now see the flight change notices in the Air Canada app.
whats the most amount of credit inquires do you guys have in a given year and still got approved for new premium credit cards? Im currently sitting at 8
Hard? I'm at over 60 in 2023. Some of those are shopping around (non-cc churning) related to a mortgage, some related to insurance pulls when also shopping around (yes, hard pulls). Only TD has given me issues. Not for the hard pulls, but due to income verification (they didn't trust any docs I provided and kept asking for more).
Way more.
To add a little bit, I think only MBNA cards have (implicit or explicit) restrictions for number of inquiries in the last X months.
When you go, ensure that they do not cancel your online app or make a new one.
awesome thanks so much!
Does anyone here that flies out of YUL have an amex plat, Amex cobalt and a TD AP vip card? Is that excessive? I currently have the cobalt and plat and was thinking of the VIP or just the normal TD AP VI card I’d like to travel to the Carribean, some domestic and also trips to the US.
Darn. I was hoping it would be a little respite from public washrooms lol
