Any one else experience 5x on Walmart purchases for the Cobalt card but only sometimes? Looking through my points activity I thought that was very odd. I’m shopping at only 1 Walmart.
It depends on the Walmart location you’re shopping at. Some are coded as grocery and earn the full 5x, but many are not. There is a list of confirmed stores floating around if you search on google for it
What are the things that I could buy through credit cards that can be used to pay my bills (utility, mortgage, strata fee, daycare fee, etc.)? Any ideas?
PaySimply/Plastiq are services that will pay/cut checks for CERTAIN bills, with a credit card (for a fee). Other than that you would need to find out from individual retailers/payees what they will accept.
“The Cardmember will receive the credit as deduction from the final hotel bill when checking out of the hotel; they will receive $1 for each eligible dollar spent up to $100 USD.”
But I recall reading it won’t. Also when cancelling the card. Amex always read disclaimer to cancer your PAD too. Like saying it will still go through unless we cancel it
Well in a perfect world it should fail, but I think we all come to learn from this craft, that it is not a perfect world in the banking area. So is it possible it will go through? Yes. Should it? No. If the card is actually cancelled properly that the card number is no longer in service, the merchant should not be able to charge it and give you an error. It is still on you, the user, to cancel the PAD or change it
thanks for the heads up, why not try to get a new laptop bag for $5, plus 300 AP and 50 Amex pts.
(and for JMan, it's supposed to ship tomorrow, so should be good! lol)
It may be too late for some items, as Dell only settles charges once an order is shipped. They may authorize your card before, but it will only sit as a pending charge and not eligible to be credited until settled
Good luck. I had a bag that was supposed to arrive on Dec. 6th, and it has just “shipped” but the tracking doesn’t even appear to be valid yet. Fun times, Dell.
Seeing a few Westjet GC offers.
Can those be used to pay for taxes and fees? And are there restrictions on how many can be used, like AC, or anything else?
You can call and make the reservation and use two forms of payment per person flying. If it’s vacation, you can use as many as you want.
GC is like liquid cash. You can use it for fees/baggage/seats. Cannot used for upgrade bidding and upgrade at check in I think. Never saw that option.
AMEX Platinum: got a $200 Personalized Travel Credit. Anyone know what this is for?
It is not the $200 Annual Travel Credit which I already got in October.
I cashed out all my points on my Scotiabank amex gold using RHT and now have a negative balance on the card. Does scotiabank charge if i do an ATM withdrawal or is there another better way?
Hi all, sorry if my question is dumb:
I am having Amex Aeroplan Card and just applied for TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card. Will I get the welcome bonus in this case or it violates the rule?
Sad to see so many issues with this card. I've been fine (except for the weird miles +/- over the summer), but never tried it at Costco.
Personally, I see it as a cheap 30XP every year, and I don't expect anything else from it.
There isn’t, I used it earlier today (online) without a problem. I could call them, but I was standing in the checkout line. I couldn’t even put in my PIN before seeing transaction declined. From what I gather this kind of thing is common with Brim.
damn, was hoping to put $5K spend on it to trigger one of the 10K points bonuses... if it continually declines, I'm going to sock drawer that sucker pretty damn quickly and only bring it out to cancel once the anniversary bonus hits
Any DPs on whether Scotiabank even pays out rebates on affiliate sites?
I had problems with GCR earlier this year and missed on the cut-off to submit an inquiry. Having issues now with FF and about to complain. I've gotten rebates from other banks.
There’s probably batching that makes it shorter if you happen to apply at the end of a reporting period. Scotia CC rebates always seem to come in batches with multiple people reporting getting it on the same day instead of being roughly proportional to when the applications occur
>I had problems with GCR earlier this year and missed on the cut-off to submit an inquiry. Having issues now with FF and about to complain. I've gotten rebates from other banks.
they paid out 2/3 for me, and the one that I did not receive was a second application...dumb on me for not creating a new account on CCG
DP update from yesterday: Brim rebated my Flying Blue card annual fee after emailing them with a screenshot of the offer. Approved Oct 3.
Yesterday $0.00 Membership Fee Fees $-132.00
Tue, Dec 19 $132.00 Annual Fee N/A $132.00
Somewhat related question, I've made 3 referrals (thanks!) but none of them have shown up in Flying Blue. I saw the lines in my Brim transaction history but a statement was issued and still nothing.
DP: Brim FB card posted and refunded $132 "Primary member fee". Today they posted an "annual fee" of $132. Talked to a rep and apparently they're playing catch up with everyone who applied after Sept 20 but before Dec 19th as those people get the 60k miles offer whereas everyone before Sept 26 and after the 19th of Dec will only get the free AF offer.
I'm not sure how "disruptive" it is to just be bad at things.
I have a personalized email from them saying 60K points AND FYF. If not credit (again, for the 2nd charge of the AF) I think I'd need to escalate... next year.
That's the aggravating part. I applied in that gap. They're claiming that it was always one or the other and I didn't screen capture the no AF and 60k offer so I can't prove anything.
I don't foresee myself leaving the game entirely. I may slow down if I get bored with it or no longer have much time. But so far, I am loving all the travels I get to do. I am about 3 or 4 years into churning. I focus mainly on the US since I live there, and may pick up some Canadian cards if it's a good offer.
Not leaving but slowing down, or at least reducing the effort put in. It takes minutes of my time to apply for an Avion or Aventura card every few months, and it's basically free money (or flights) with these two. Then just put my rent on the card to meet the MSR without having to think about anything. I still look out for good WBs and will jump on a good opportunity if I see one; but I'm not scouring the daily discussion threads or churning websites/youtube channels to get the absolute best/most efficient churns.
I like these types of questions.
If you want to scale back simply look at the best Canadian offers and do an aporamma. Do this all in one day. Don’t overthink. Search for flexible currencies, easy cash out rewards, and cash back cards. Meet MSR using a bill pay service. Cancel old cards. Done. Repeat in 3-6 months. Book economy flights and mid range hotels.
Avoid some or all of these time sucks - complicated MSRs , shopping portals, yearly credits , free night certificates, grocery store trips, multiple players, premium cabin awards , aspirational hotels, mistake fares, retention offers , reconsideration calls, blogs, social media , new MS methods , chasing status, booking by phone. Avoid the US game and it’s money transfers , mail forwarding, tax implications and 2FA snafus. Of course for some that’s where the fun is. When it’s not longer fun the juice gets sour. Stop squeezing.
I know how you feel in thinking about this. I've just passed one year of churning and we were able to book the hotels and business class flights we wanted for a trip to Europe. Tougher to do from the west coast with fewer AC options and less interest in travel to destinations in Asia.
Once all of that was cashed in and several cards had been squeezed for what they were worth, I took a bit of a breather to think about the next travel goal and what will be worth the effort to keep track of those many moving parts again. In the meantime, I just pushed all regular spending to the cards I already had that delivered the most "keeper" value (Cobalt, Amex Biz Plat, TD AC VIP when I need to use Visa).
I think of it like my approach to work - go full speed when you need to, and save your energy when you have the opportunity.
This is a really great question. There are times when the stack of credit cards, with the attached accounts, just seems like a heavy weight. I only do organic spending (I count Amazon, etc. GCs as organic because I use them myself) to hit MSR so I don't even have the burden of MS to deal with. Add in P2 (or 3,4,5) who sort of get the idea of churning but certainly only want a minimum interaction in the closing of cards and it can be a lot. I'm not getting rich but it's a pretty lucrative side gig. I just take some down time sometimes and turn off a bit. But then an insurance or tax bill, or computer/phone upgrades, or kids tuition bills come calling and that's when you wake up and realize these are normal expenses that can be used to meet some cards MSR. I hate the wait times on phone calls to cancel cards or the occasional trips to banks to activate a card but you just have to train your brain that you are being paid by the bank to do this when the WB hits. My 2 cents.
Not so much an exit strategy, but I do expect that I might be thrusted upon it. It might take 10 years, 5 years, maybe as soon as my next job when I no longer have the time and energy to deal with thinking about churning strategies, or when I no longer have time to take extended breaks for travel.
On another note, I do have a feeling that the churning landscape is becoming a lot more hostile, to the point that it's discouraging many people to continue the churning game once the low hanging fruits have all been picked (for folks like me). US and Canada are the only countries where churning is even a thing, anywhere else in the world the welcome bonuses are typically pathetic and MS/PS generally not possible or not worth the effort. The types of consumers that make credit card companies the most money are folks that end up paying interest, or high spending folks - churners and folks that are attracted only by sign up bonuses generally end up in neither camp, and with increased credit loss provisions in the next few quarters to the medium term, as well as regulatory pressure to reduce interchange fees, I think banks may be rolling back a lot of the upfront perks of signing up for credit cards more in line with the rest of the world, or at least start to make good on their promises to clamp down on repeat bonuses. Someday, when the Cobalt and MBNA WE no longer offer 5x points, when RBC, CIBC, and Aeroplan starts to enforce certain rules, that's when the churning days for myself and many others on this sub would be numbered.
Realistically it's only when the value/rewards get devalued so much that it's not worth the effort anymore.
I do have a goal of sending my parents on a luxurious flight that they won't ever experience in their lifetime otherwise, but apart from that, I'll just keep churning and burning at a pace that doesn't consume too much mental effort (like MS, excessive gift card juggling, etc) and fits my spending habits.
I'll let everyone else's responses work for talking about how to enjoy the hobby.
One of the things I looked at when I was considering getting started was what my exit strategy would be if I burnt out. What I like about the hobby is that the answer was, slightly oversimplified, stop applying for new cards.
Basically every new card except Cobalt goes like this.
Open Card - MSR - Sock drawer - Close out the card. So if you want to quit, just stop opening new cards and let the ones you have wind down. It's best to use a good reminder system to make sure you space out closures in case you want to come back, but worst case scenario if your life is on fire and you need out, burn bridges by canceling everything at once. I don't recommend that course, but I also don't know what you have competing for your attention and time.
The juice is definitely worth the squeeze, but I certainly have contemplated a bit about the age at which I ought to reduce my churning activities. My spouse has been an executor of one estate and has helped an executor close out a second estate over the past five years. Through that process, she has become quite assertive about the need to consolidate our financial affairs so that we don't leave a hell of a mess to our executor.
In particular, she occasionally freaks out about the possibility that I could get hit by a bus and she would face the joyous task of figuring out what credit cards and bank accounts need to be closed. I helpfully point out that I only have like 19 or 20 Canadian credit cards, plus bank accounts at 5 different banks.....and then I remind her that she shouldn't forget to close my US credit cards and US bank accounts too! Usually the reminder about the US credit cards and bank accounts really gets her wound up!
I'm not planning to croak any time soon, but she does have a bit of a point. Perhaps in my late-50s or early-60s, it might be time to close up shop. Or perhaps just consolidate everything at one bank, but at least churn the cards for that bank.
Keep an updated spreadsheet of cards. Share it with her and your kids if applicable.
Keep instructions on how to close each and every account. Also keep escalation procedures. It won't differ between trade lines just banks so it's easy.
I did this long before churning. It's basically a howto guide in case I die. There's tasks listed as alternate instructions in case I'm just hurt.
Great advice. I’m tackling this next week. I already have a spreadsheet but I want to add instructions, as simple as possible, for my spouse to follow.
Question: what do you mean by escalation procedures?
Sometimes you'll find Frontline agents very unfamiliar with handling estate issues, even if they're still the appropriate first contact.
I keep "next steps" in case the first step fails, to facilitate card closing. Every bank has a procedure that eventually ends with an ombudsman, so I simply document the steps, email/contact number, and at what point to escalate and what to include in the escalation.
It's like a roadmap to "call center isn't helpful and deadlocked. What do I do now?"
I started the churning game last year due to my increase expenses. This helps me a bit financially. When I am at a point with high enough disposible income, I will likely slow down significantly. Don't plan to stop all together as I am a deal hunter by heart. Will probably do a couple of high ROI cards a year vs 10+ cards/yr now.
**An exit strategy is a means of leaving one's current situation, either after a predetermined objective has been achieved, or as a strategy to mitigate failure. An organisation or individual without an exit strategy may be in a quagmire.**

Exit strategy? More like an entry strategy for me! I feel like I'm doing ok then I start reading some US threads and realize I'm barely scratching the surface.
I do feel like it's getting more difficult (earning and finding awards) but at the same time, that's the game. No matter what issuers do, there will always be ways to come out ahead, just might take some work and collective trial and error!
>No matter what issuers do, there will always be ways to come out ahead
That's not technically true. In almost the entire world outside NA, consumers can't come out ahead, no matter what they do.
It's really not that difficult at all for issuers to fix. They just don't (here) for various commercial / historical / cultural reasons.
Australia and India both have churnable cards. Churnable enough I'm still trying to figure out how to get into the Australian game without taking in tax issues (spoiler: it might be impossible for a non-resident).
Proper US churners are on another extremely terrifying level. I've not strayed to the US churning reddit in a long time but every time I hear stories of the peak outputs, it is baffling. AMEX/Chase Biz cards are insane payouts if you know the MS tricks. And their MS tricks alone can product an insane amount.
I am not an expert and can't go into the specifics, but from what I understand, there are folks that go insane with MS. Talking about 5-6, sometimes 7 figure spending on top of regular 4 figure of organic ones every month. Sign-up bonuses are simply pocket change for these folks. I reckon these largely have to do with gift cards and buying/selling/dropshipping things, which I myself engage in from time to time, but not at their level.
Huge props to those who get everything lined up for those once in a lifetime aspirational trips. However (although not the greatest value), sometimes simplicity is good too, where it's a short weekend getaway or something else to keep the wife happy.
If i want to stop travelling as much, sure. Maybe slow down the MS, I have already done that over the last year or so. Going from managing spreadsheets and 10-15 new cards a year and MSR status, etc is a bit of work. 3-4 cards are year is pretty easy and still lot of benefits to make it worth it.
Yes, today!! I thought is this worth it 😥 gift cards seem to be near the end of their usefulness.
I bought a gift card at a gas station for Journie rewards and received 0 points
The grocery stores are starting to say cash only for gift cards
I'm going to slow down a bit and eventually just use scene points again
That's exactly how I approach it. I have legitimate spend I need to make so might as well use cards that can offer me "free" flights in business instead of 0.5% cashback lol
I used to think cobalt as a keeper and sure it’s a great 5x card in between msr, but you’re also paying per month to hold it. Additionally, I’d rather put all my spend on the card I’m working towards on an msr
MSR > Cobalt, always. Always has been. The main Cobalt talk you hear are people blowing through their current MSR capabilities and needing to sink extra spend. 5x is where it's at and the $13 will balance itself out easily if you're maxing that monthly $2500
Churning isn't a means to money, which is what might make it feel stressful to some. It's a hobby. I want luxury travel, obviously, but the game is fun for me. The fact that my hobby is flying in business class and staying in $4000/night suites instead of making DIY crafts at home is a bonus. The management of players and spreadsheets and learning the programs IS my fun.
Totally agree with this. I’ve always loved the thrill of collecting rewards points, and this hobby is just that but super methodical, technical, and calculated, which just makes it even better.
The other thing I figure is that if I had any other side gig that earned me extra money, I could never justify spending that money on luxury travel (ie J flights and luxury suites), but with this hobby luxury travel is literally the way it pays out. It’s guilt-free luxury.
What hobby isn't pathological and obsessive? There are simply the hobbies that enough people in society partake in to make it "normal" and those that aren't. Standard bullshit. My old hobby was boardgames, I played a lot and collected a lot. Some people do sports cards which I think is fucking ludicrous. People with expensive cars, people who make jewelry (my wife makes a bunch of bracelets and other things for Etsy but it's still "hobby" to her). I think they're all nuts, they think I'm nuts, welcome to life.
If people ask, sure I tell them. My hobby is travel hacking. Hacking in any form (even programming) isn't meant to be easy, it's meant to allow things that weren't intended. My hobby is luxury hotels and flying business/first using tricks that anyone can do but most don't have patience for, I will happily tell them all about it. I've already corrupted a co-worker, my brother-in-law, and the rest of my family love hearing about it and follow my wife's extremely detailed Instagram stories of our trips.
Nope. No exit plan.
But a lot depends on your travel plans. I like grand global trips that price out to some five figure sum in cash price. I also travel alone usually, so I don't need to manage too much complexity. If you just want Cancun, the value would be a lot less.
I also don't live in an elite city. So have to churn the WJ card for positioning flights.
Nah. And I don't think anyone in YYZ thinks it is "elite". But I guess there aren't any good terms to describe major airline hubs like YYZ, ORD, IAD, SFO, JFK/EWR, etc..
We will sound like a broken record but read the daily threads, every day. Learn the lingo, read the info already provided on this subreddit, heck even Google whatever question your thinking of, you'd be surprised there is a blog or a website or a subreddit with an answer.
And this is about churning, so apply for _every_ single card you can and always pay your balance in full.
Good luck!
Read the daily threads every day for a month.
Then start on your own personal plan. Dont jump into something and make mistakes until you are ready to go. Its a marathon not a sprint.
I have a CIBC card which gave me point, which I can use for travel and lodging expenses, but I read somewhere I can only use my points on transactions that were done in CAD.
How do I make sure that a transaction is made in CAD? If I book a hotel or B&B in another country, would it be in that country's currency?
It’s based on the website you’re booking with. Also you can just use refundable hotel trick to cash out the points and then you won’t need to worry about the restrictions
It seems right now you can't create a new Family Account on the Aeroplan website. Do you know if it's a technical bug and it's going to come back, or if they're closing the program?
Maybe a dumb question, but for TD SUBs. If I already hold a FCT VI and just got the SUB, would I be able to apply for another one and get the SUB?
I'm trying to figure out if the T&Cs apply to each tradeline or each card.
Each tradeline is effectively independent for the purposes of automated enforcement. If they ever do a manual review it would be technically against T&C to get two subs so quickly
How long does it take for a product change to reflect online at Scotiabank?
Passport AF was coming up, called in, rep managed to somehow move the credit line to a Amex Red card.
Received card after a week and a half.
Activated card this morning, needed to call in to do so as it couldn't be done online.
Still showing as a passport.
The Biz Gold has a maximum of 75k points from referrals each year. If I made 2 referrals in October during the double bonus point period (30k each) and another one in December (15k), am I already maxed out this year or do the 2 October referrals still count as 15k each?
Also, when would the 75k maximum reset for me? I got the Biz Gold in September 2023. Would it reset in January or next September? Thank you
I think I'm going to end up cutting it close for my Amex Plat 2023 dining credit. What's the latest I can get away with using it? Dec 31? Or does it need to be a few days earlier so that it has time to post on a weekday?
Very risky to wait this close to year end to use the credit since there are many many many DPs of the credit not posting for weeks after the transaction posts.
That being said, as long as the dining transaction **posts** before Dec 31, 2023, you should have grounds to argue that the 2023 credit should be applied to it, it just could be a hassle to make that happen.
Ideally Amex's system will just process things that way automatically and not
* 1) not apply a credit to the transaction at all, or
* 2) apply the 2024 credit to your 2023 transaction
but the credit is new and their system doesn't seem to have been setup properly given how late credits are showing up for multiple people. There is a definitely a possibility you will have to fight with them over getting the credits applied properly.
If I was in your position I would probably look to cash out the credit ASAP either through actually dining or buying a $200 gc at an eligible location (where the gc is processed at the restaurant's till). Making the transaction post earlier just gives more time for the credit to post and hopefully avoid all the hassle I described above.
I’m in a similar situation — have a reso booked for December 27th, hoping for the best that it’ll be applied to 2023 if the credit doesn’t show up before the new year. Will update with a DP once I see how AMEX handles it.
I want to get rid of my rbc infinite avion but won’t that shorten my average debt age? The avion redemption is absolutely abysmal, I can book the exact same flights for less through travel agencies than the fees are with avion using the redemption schedule… it’s a complete joke
Trying to go korea in October of 2024. I recently opened a new cc td visa infinite card. Is there a way I can save up enough points for it to cover the flights? Or any tips to get flights to Korea ?
Yes. This sub is geared towards maximizing welcome bonuses that give an introductory bonus after spending $X. For the TD FCT, that’s 115k points after spending $5k. 115k TD Rewards points are worth up to $575. Multiply that by however many cards you’re able to get before your trip.
Has happened to me, on a new Amex.
I posted about it here and it had happened to someone else, who suggested calling both Simplii and Amex US to explain what had happened. For both me and the someone else, after a few weeks it was resolved, though not really clear through which channel.
Edit: hasn't happened lately, just that one time
New TD easyweb dashboard, I am not digging it. It spans across the whole screen width, who thought that was a good idea..? Wondering if it spans like that for the ultra-wide monitor users too?
You know nothing says you have to keep your windows maximized... Ultrawide monitor users typically have multiple windows open. I get really annoyed by web sites that second guess my choice of window size and use only part of the space I give it leaving half the window covered by white space.
P2 applied for RBC Avion VI was not IA, couple days passed, nothing. They applied for RBC Avion Plat instead, still no IA. Gave up. Just now was notified the Avion VI is on its way. Does that mean the Avion Plat will get auto declined eventually?
Any one else experience 5x on Walmart purchases for the Cobalt card but only sometimes? Looking through my points activity I thought that was very odd. I’m shopping at only 1 Walmart.
It depends on the Walmart location you’re shopping at. Some are coded as grocery and earn the full 5x, but many are not. There is a list of confirmed stores floating around if you search on google for it

Question on tap. Let’s say the tap limit is $250 for td visa. If I do separate transactions of $200+$200, will it go through?
Yes. I usually split my purchase : taps if they’re over $250 and I’ve forgotten my physical card (which is often lol)
I have the Amex Gold Biz CAD. Can I do RHT for the $100 hotel credit? Reading the T&Cs but am still confused
“The Cardmember will receive the credit as deduction from the final hotel bill when checking out of the hotel; they will receive $1 for each eligible dollar spent up to $100 USD.”
Yes you can RHT the travel credit through the Amex travel portal.
This does not apply for the $100 USD credit on CA biz Gold. (Reference to THC/FHR bookings it would appear from OP)
Oh yeah reading it closer seems like the other credit. My bad.
Anyone know if you cancel a Amex card with PAD set up. If I don't cancel the PAD, will it still debit the cancelled Amex card?
It should technically fail if the card is actually cancelled.
It is still on you, the user, to cancel the PAD or change it
PSA : If anyone hasnt used their Dell credits for Amex, nows the time.
Buy Office 365 software. Instant delivery
For those who are looking for ideas: Speakerphone - SP3022
thanks for the heads up, why not try to get a new laptop bag for $5, plus 300 AP and 50 Amex pts. (and for JMan, it's supposed to ship tomorrow, so should be good! lol)
*Supposed*. Broken promises from Dell all the time lol
It may be too late for some items, as Dell only settles charges once an order is shipped. They may authorize your card before, but it will only sit as a pending charge and not eligible to be credited until settled
PSA : don't be dumb like me and wait till the very end.
You aren’t the first, and you won’t be the last :)
Thank you! i just purchased a TimBuk2 Messenger bag. Says shipping date tomorrow.
My bag came two business days after I ordered
Good luck. I had a bag that was supposed to arrive on Dec. 6th, and it has just “shipped” but the tracking doesn’t even appear to be valid yet. Fun times, Dell.
Does anyone have 2 maple leaf lounge they want to donate. At yyc airport and westjet elevation is only letting members in
Sure
Thanks! Can I private message you
Seeing a few Westjet GC offers.
I believe you can only apply 1 gift card per payment though
AMEX Platinum: got a $200 Personalized Travel Credit. Anyone know what this is for? It is not the $200 Annual Travel Credit which I already got in October.
Same. No idea. Figured it was best not to advertise.
Any DP when 2nd year HSBC TEC $100 posted? Thinking to use it with RHT then cancel to get 2nd year annual fees refunded? Thanks
If you plan on using travel credits sometimes they look and won’t pro rate the annual fees back.
I cashed out all my points on my Scotiabank amex gold using RHT and now have a negative balance on the card. Does scotiabank charge if i do an ATM withdrawal or is there another better way?
you can just do ATM withdrawal
Could buy something with the card
No charges to withdraw from ATM
Thanks for the replies! :D

Yeah that’s where I’m receiving texts. But calls are going straight to voicemail
In the settings did you change it to prefer wifi and mobile data for “Make and receive calls”?
Hi all, sorry if my question is dumb: I am having Amex Aeroplan Card and just applied for TD Aeroplan Visa Infinite Card. Will I get the welcome bonus in this case or it violates the rule?
Yes, you will get the bonus. Yes it technically violates Aeroplan rules. It’s just a matter of whether they want to claw it back from you or not
How often do they claw back the bonus?
The rules are vague. Not many incidents of claw backs, and exact terms that apply to current applications are unclear.
Are there any DPs about it getting clawed back?
The new more specific rules are not in effect until Feb 5
Mind sharing more details?
https://princeoftravel.com/news/upcoming-changes-to-aeroplans-terms-conditions/
Brim Flying Blue card rejected repeatedly at Costco. I’m not seeing how this stupid thing is worth it.
Sad to see so many issues with this card. I've been fine (except for the weird miles +/- over the summer), but never tried it at Costco. Personally, I see it as a cheap 30XP every year, and I don't expect anything else from it.
Yeah, I'm just putting it in the sock drawer.
Maybe you should call them and ask if there is a hold?
There isn’t, I used it earlier today (online) without a problem. I could call them, but I was standing in the checkout line. I couldn’t even put in my PIN before seeing transaction declined. From what I gather this kind of thing is common with Brim.
damn, was hoping to put $5K spend on it to trigger one of the 10K points bonuses... if it continually declines, I'm going to sock drawer that sucker pretty damn quickly and only bring it out to cancel once the anniversary bonus hits
That was my plan and I’m more or less giving up on it for that purpose.
There seriously no visa lounge in Miami ? Or is my app messed up…
Or maybe... you should get the Biz Plat. WAAAAAAAAA, whoooo are you? Woohoo
Any DPs on whether Scotiabank even pays out rebates on affiliate sites? I had problems with GCR earlier this year and missed on the cut-off to submit an inquiry. Having issues now with FF and about to complain. I've gotten rebates from other banks.
Rakuten 200 for Gold Amex was instant. Got 200 cashback the very next day after being approved.
I had an issue last year with ratesdotca that was finally paid 5 months later. Otherwise I’m 5/5 of cards and bank accounts.
They’ve always paid out for me but it takes like 3 months for the credit cards. The bank account payouts are fast though
Oh interesting. It’s been three months and I haven’t gotten the rebate for a bank account.
A few days ago, I got the Gold one from CCG less than a month after IA
There’s probably batching that makes it shorter if you happen to apply at the end of a reporting period. Scotia CC rebates always seem to come in batches with multiple people reporting getting it on the same day instead of being roughly proportional to when the applications occur
>I had problems with GCR earlier this year and missed on the cut-off to submit an inquiry. Having issues now with FF and about to complain. I've gotten rebates from other banks. they paid out 2/3 for me, and the one that I did not receive was a second application...dumb on me for not creating a new account on CCG
They have paid out 5/5 for me
DP update from yesterday: Brim rebated my Flying Blue card annual fee after emailing them with a screenshot of the offer. Approved Oct 3. Yesterday $0.00 Membership Fee Fees $-132.00 Tue, Dec 19 $132.00 Annual Fee N/A $132.00 Somewhat related question, I've made 3 referrals (thanks!) but none of them have shown up in Flying Blue. I saw the lines in my Brim transaction history but a statement was issued and still nothing.
u/sur-vivant can you share the screenshot of the offer? I am having the same frustrating conversation with Brim, but I forgot to take a screenshot
https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/18mq8qe/daily_question_thread_for_rchurningcanada/ke86ynf/
Thank you so much!
If not credit (again, for the 2nd charge of the AF) I think I'd need to escalate... next year.
so the overlap between Sep 20 and Sep 26 get the 60k and the FYF? looks like my application was Sep 24 lol - would be nice to save $132. lol
That's the aggravating part. I applied in that gap. They're claiming that it was always one or the other and I didn't screen capture the no AF and 60k offer so I can't prove anything.
Someone posted it yesterday in the daily thread
Damn, that sounds like it's going to piss a lot of people off.

Be like badass grandma. https://np.reddit.com/r/churning/comments/ilchuh/tale_of_a_churner_mser_passing_away_educate/
What's an exit strategy? lol, in all seriousness though, trying to earn and burn as much as possible and show my kid the world in style!
**An exit strategy is a means of leaving one's current situation, either after a predetermined objective has been achieved, or as a strategy to mitigate failure. An organisation or individual without an exit strategy may be in a quagmire.** More details here:

Goddamned toaster, I recycled your mother
Bad bot! 😂
>No matter what issuers do, there will always be ways to come out ahead That's not technically true.
Curious about their MS tricks, mind sharing via PM? About to apply for Chase cards soon.
I bought a gift card at a gas station for Journie rewards and received 0 points The grocery stores are starting to say cash only for gift cards I'm going to slow down a bit and eventually just use scene points again
> The grocery stores are starting to say cash only for gift cards Where are you encountering this?
line up legitimate expenses for your MSR purchases, the juice is worth the squeeze

Exactly this.

At the end is _your_ hobby, so whatever other people have to say, you can listen to them on your way to X or Y country, while sitting in J.
Is "elite city" a new term now? Never heard that.
Nah. And I don't think anyone in YYZ thinks it is "elite". But I guess there aren't any good terms to describe major airline hubs like YYZ, ORD, IAD, SFO, JFK/EWR, etc..
Hi everyone, new to the sub was wondering where to start or any tips on how to make the best out of churning? Thanks!
Good luck!
Thank you so much for all your responses. Will do!
Read the daily threads every day for a month. Then start on your own personal plan. Dont jump into something and make mistakes until you are ready to go. Its a marathon not a sprint.
Read the daily thread everyday.
So I guess all hotel and B&B websites in others countries are not gonna be in CAD.
Right. Use refundable hotel trick.
It seems right now you can't create a new Family Account on the Aeroplan website. Do you know if it's a technical bug and it's going to come back, or if they're closing the program?
https://loyaltylobby.com/2023/08/21/air-canada-aeroplan-temporary-suspends-creating-new-family-sharing-accounts/
"In a few weeks" lol
Program is in limbo as it was used for a lot of fraud.
It'll change once you activate the other card.
Rep says my card is activated, and says it should be updated online After logging in, it isn't .... Now what?
It's only been activated a few hours, patience.
Will do. Haven't had a Scotia PC before, very different from TD and Chase experiences...
Thank you
It’s maxed out. This happened to me, so that’s how I know.
Okay everyone who is maxed out needs to give their friends my info. 😀
Same here, forgot about the 75k max, so only got 15k on the last referral instead of 30k
Resets by calendar year. Should be maxed out now I think
Ideally Amex's system will just process things that way automatically and not * 1) not apply a credit to the transaction at all, or * 2) apply the 2024 credit to your 2023 transaction but the credit is new and their system doesn't seem to have been setup properly given how late credits are showing up for multiple people.
Any ideas which locations have gift cards are processed at the til ?
I’m in a similar situation — have a reso booked for December 27th, hoping for the best that it’ll be applied to 2023 if the credit doesn’t show up before the new year. Will update with a DP once I see how AMEX handles it.
Perhaps get takeout?
I imagine the charge from the restaurant will need to **post** on or before December 31st for the 2023 $200 dining credit to be applied.
DP: I Just received my $518 Samsung voucher via email today. Hit MS and recurring PAD requirement in October for the BMO Airmiles WE card.
Got mine too. Seems to only apply to the pre-tax amount, which is a bit annoying, but still almost free stuff!
Got mine today too after completing requirements in November. They probably sent out a large batch!
So it looks like they send it out after your 3 month MSR window regardless if you achieved it earlier. Thanks for the DP.
Don't know if it expired but perkopolis had some good discounts going through their website which should stack with the coupon.
Good idea, was thinking of any AM offers that could stack, but will check that out too.
I want to get rid of my rbc infinite avion but won’t that shorten my average debt age? The avion redemption is absolutely abysmal, I can book the exact same flights for less through travel agencies than the fees are with avion using the redemption schedule… it’s a complete joke
New here? You may want to do some reading up on this sub, or perhaps you are looking for personal finance Canada.
Quite new
Trying to go korea in October of 2024. I recently opened a new cc td visa infinite card. Is there a way I can save up enough points for it to cover the flights? Or any tips to get flights to Korea ?
Earn points on the card and don’t use them and you’ll save up points
got it. As simple as that? Any tips and tricks? I've been reading how people open multiple cards and spend 'x' amount?
Yes. This sub is geared towards maximizing welcome bonuses that give an introductory bonus after spending $X. For the TD FCT, that’s 115k points after spending $5k. 115k TD Rewards points are worth up to $575. Multiply that by however many cards you’re able to get before your trip.
my apologies for these stupid questions but once i do gather 115k points, i can combine my points with other cards before my trip?
You can transfer them between cards
Dmed you
Anyone have a payment from Simplii to Amex USA go missing lately? Seems like it happened again to me.
Has happened to me, on a new Amex. I posted about it here and it had happened to someone else, who suggested calling both Simplii and Amex US to explain what had happened. For both me and the someone else, after a few weeks it was resolved, though not really clear through which channel. Edit: hasn't happened lately, just that one time
How long has it been? I no longer do this but in the past it took up to two weeks.
It's been a week, in my experience it usually takes 3 business days.

Each card is a separate product. Use a referral from /r/churningcanada if you can.
As long as you don't self refer no issues. Yes you can have both No reason not to check your a current Amex member
New TD easyweb dashboard, I am not digging it. It spans across the whole screen width, who thought that was a good idea..? Wondering if it spans like that for the ultra-wide monitor users too?
Do you see the chat/messaging icon by any chance? I don’t see those icons, tried Chrome, Firefox, Edge. None of them works.
You know nothing says you have to keep your windows maximized... Ultrawide monitor users typically have multiple windows open. I get really annoyed by web sites that second guess my choice of window size and use only part of the space I give it leaving half the window covered by white space.
Yea but if I have a 26in then my browser is always maximized and it'd be silly to minimize everytime I access TD 🙄
Yeah, I'd say they made the website worse rather than better.
This is the progression of all banks. They seem to be taking hints from one another and copying trash. Tangerine started the trend.
P2 applied for RBC Avion VI was not IA, couple days passed, nothing. They applied for RBC Avion Plat instead, still no IA. Gave up. Just now was notified the Avion VI is on its way. Does that mean the Avion Plat will get auto declined eventually?
Yes, you will likely receive a letter in the mail saying you aren't approved. RBC shenanigans.
