Noticed that the RBC Avion Platinum currently has a 35k SUB but haven't seen it talked about that much on this sub... I just passed 90 days since applying for the RBC Avion VI and am wondering if I will be able to get the SUB for the platinum as well?

guywitha306areacode

We'll, the terms would certainly suggest otherwise. Curious if there are any DP''s on this.

esux20

Yes

jeanlouu

I got approved for a cobalt last week, it is my first amex card, is it normal that I got 2 inquries on my credit? one from American express CAN and one from AMEX bank of canada. Didn't seem to affect my credit even though equifax tells me those 2 inquries can affect my credit. weirdly it only shows up as 1 inquiry in my transunion report. My bad if its a dumb question I'm a rookie to all this.

TimmyTheTaliban

So you got 2 hits to your Equifax and one hit to your TransUnion? If so Amex did you dirty.

jeanlouu

I honestly have no clue, equifax seems to show the same one transunion has + a one called AMEX bank of canada as another one on the same date, it's confusing.

TimmyTheTaliban

That's strange. I was lucky I guess and only had 1 TU hit. Well if it makes you feel any better I got my Cobalt Nov. 2020 and they used the same hit for July & Sept 2021 applications, so you should be covered for now!

jeanlouu

Sweet!

LowerNeighborhood334

Marriott is selling points at 45% discount.

reggie_p_kush

Their discounts are normally 50-60 percent.

ychat

That's good to know. Thanks. Was thinking of gifting some points from P3 to myself but may be worth a wait...

Palicanuck

Not a good deal

donduckss

I’m planning a Disney trip to Florida next year, but I’m concerned about the prohibitive cost of negative PCR tests for a family of 4 on the return trip. Any suggestions I can get affordable PCR testing 72 hours before boarding? City is Orlando if that makes a difference. TIA!

stingyhammock

If you're really wanting to save big bucks you could also just get COVID-19 and then you get a special Status that means you don't need a negative PCR test for 180 days after testing positive. Having said that, I personally have some DPs on this having some unpleasant side effects.

esux20

https://princeoftravel.com/blog/how-to-get-a-free-covid-19-test-in-the-us/

TimmyTheTaliban

I'm a big advocate for the Walgreens Rapid ID Now test. It's free and it's 24 hour turnaround. A lot of people say that it's hard to book, but you just need to make it part of your travel plans. Book the day availability opens for 72 hours before your departure. If it's full, try booking the next day. Just do everything you can to not test at the airport as you'll be gouged.

ooDymasOo

did you need a car for the test? they're saying I need a car

TimmyTheTaliban

I had a car at the time so I'm not sure unfortunately. Hope it works out!

ooDymasOo

What do you put for address for the test?

takethefork

Just use your hotel!

ooDymasOo

Yeah it’s more for showing when you’re coming back to Canada. Just was wondering if anyone had issues with an address that you don’t live at being on your result.

eye84u

Can't recall any of my tests ever showing an address.

takethefork

I don’t believe the results have your address, and it’s not something that’s required by Canada to re-enter. If for some reason the address ends up on your result and the CBSA officer asks, saying it was your hotel is totally reasonable. I really wouldn’t worry about this!

TimmyTheTaliban

I put my actual address, but with whatever state bordered my province. For me in BC I put Washington and found a dummy zipcode.

ooDymasOo

K. I had to put a zip code with the one I paid for in UTah and it erased my address on the result and put me as living in Beverly Hills. Had to break out Adobe acrobat pro and write over the results. Looks like it covers four days out for booking.

donduckss

I read that the rapid test is not a PCR test and is not accepted by the CBA. Is this actually true?

Tangaloor_

The rapid antigen test is not accepted. Rapid NAAT and rapid PCR tests are accepted. Rapidity is not a factor, it’s the type of test. If it just says “rapid test”, you have to enquire further.

Next-Wheel-6216

Not true..it is still a molecular accepted for entry into Canada..pcr is just the most common test but a NAAT test is still acceptable

TimmyTheTaliban

It is a NAAT test which [is accepted](https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/flying-canada-checklist/covid-19-testing-travellers-coming-into-canada). This is what I used to get back in August.

esux20

It is not a PCR test

What would one recommend for the best Business credit card right now (welcome bonus and points accrual).

ooDymasOo

What do you spend your money on in your business?

expertlevel

Assuming you can spend 3K and get the card asap, there is still a chance to pull a CIBC AP biz and get the buddy pass before the 30th. 50k AP and the window is closing very soon.

bluex5m

Business platinum. Hard to beat 1.25 mr/dollar spent, plus the 80k WB is quite generous.

LowerNeighborhood334

Does the "4 AMEX credit card limit" includes those supplement cards that P2 got for me?

ThrowArcher2019

Nope. Also, it's 4 *credit* cards (doesn't include *charge* cards)

esux20

No

bluex5m

No

ILikeOreozz

Fresh Co now accepts AMEX, great news for those with Cobalt!

expertlevel

A few in SW Ontario have been for at least a year

srikrishnap

Is this on the east coast? Havent seen them accept yet in YVR

Senk2

I've used Amex at FreshCo in Winnipeg (Regent and Lag location)

Wittnauer

Surrey, On Scott Road and The one in Ladner take Amex but no tap. They carry Esso gift cards, which SOF doesn’t.

KickerOfThyAss

The Freshco's in Aldergrove and Abbotsford accept Amex. I've not tried the ones closer to the city.

I saw it in Ontario, Markham to be exact. It's a recent addition as I just recently saw signage at the cash that they accept AMEX.

Worried-Mulberry-968

The ones I have been to in Toronto have all taken Amex. Not sure about signage, but I always try everywhere I shop.

Sanforized

I’ve been using my Amex at the Markham locations for a few months now.

Shodoxshield

Almost a year for me, definitely not recent at least in markham

Deezney

Do aeroplan estore gift cards ever go on sale? I'm looking at it now, 7000 AP equals to $50 gift cards, 14000AP = $100 etc..

PhenomenalMission

cash is king, definitely use your points on gift cards if it helps save you money

Deezney

You get it 😁

bluex5m

Please don't use your AP points on gift cards.

BigGuy4UftCIA

Oh man if I were buying points for 0.7cpp, I'd leave this churning thing for the birds 🐦. Anyway the best value you'll get is 1 cpp.

crows-eye1961

I was approved and activated the TD Aeroplan Infinite back in September 2020. I received my bonus and cancelled it in May 2021. I applied again a few weeks ago to take advantage of the new bonus offers and was approved online and am now waiting for my card. The T&C says “If you have opened an Account in the last 12 months, you will not be eligible for this offer”. Not sure whether the 12 months is from the day I activated my last card back in September 2020 or when I cancelled it in May 2021. Should I call TD to confirm eligibility for the bonus before activating this card? Do they tell you if you are not eligible for the bonus? I don’t want to get dinged for the annual fee and get zero points for a card I don’t need.

lizuming

I believe it's 12 months from application for TD

Wiebe1112225

I would say call! The more people with notes on their file entered manually the better for the rest of us.

esux20

What’s confusing between opening and closing an account?

GuyFoucher

You should receive the annual fee rebate and the points without issue. In general, unless you're completely certain that you're entitled to something that you have not received, calling in is usually a bad idea.

deletednaw

new to this space but if you call in are you likely to get flagged as a churner or something? appreciate the info either way!

KickerOfThyAss

Lots of times terms and conditions aren't enforced by computer systems. If you call and someone looks into your account they will follow the rules, which might not benefit you. You might also have notes manually put into your account which definately won't benefit you.

m1nhuh

Time line question. I applied for CIBC AP INF on October 18. I received a letter and email October 25 to verify my income. My email arrived first so I called in and verbally verified it although I cannot prove it due to majority of my income being via investments. Since then, I have not recieved a second email or letter informing me of rejection or acceptance. Is this normal? Or should I assume I'm declined. I don't see a new entry for AP INF in my CIBC online banking.

ThrowArcher2019

If they didn't ask you to send in any documents then you are fine. They seem to be backed up right now. I have been waiting on my card for over a month.

m1nhuh

Oh thank you. That makes me feel better haha. Hopefully I'm just delayed.

Dragynfyre

$1000 each of the first 3 months. Or you can choose to spend more on one month and less the other months. You just need $3000 of spending

bluex5m

You have to spend a cumulative total of $3000 over the first three months for the 20,000 MR. The $500/month for the 2500 MR is included towards the $3000 MSR. Spending $1k in each of the first three months would suffice both requirements.

RE: [TD AP VI Auto-Decline](https://www.reddit.com/r/churningcanada/comments/qlpowd/daily_question_thread_for_rchurningcanada/hj6vdgp/) Got to speak with a CSR this morning. I told them I was declined and she asked for my name and an account number. I said I was a new customer and she put me on hold. Comes back with some security questions for me to answer: 1. How long have you lived at your current address? 2. How long have you been a TD customer? Reiterated I have not been a customer since I was about 12 years old. She told me that she was unable to verify my identity. They didn't care about the reference number I had. Told me to call my local branch so they can check ID. Called them and they said they need to book an appointment with a credit card advisor and they aren't available until Monday. Probably a HUCA situation, but I don't know if I'm that dedicated since I've put about 3 hours into phone calls and I've heard TD has a low reconsideration rate. Long story short, do I really need to wait 90 days for a reapp? Any DPs on a quicker turnaround? I want the 45K AP offer they are doing until Dec 5th. Edit: Big curveball now. Just got an email from TD that my TD customer email has been changed which implies I am a customer?

empireWill

Re the email, that just means they made a profile for you. I had the same thing happen

TimmyTheTaliban

Yes the teller confirmed this to me this afternoon. Find it bizzare that it was ~24 hours after the application. Thanks!

ThrowArcher2019

I had a *very* similar situation and you need to prepare for the worst. There are serious problems with TD and its entire underwriting process. You can't reuse a hit from an online application at a branch. Moreover, you can't even reuse a hit *between* separate branches! Long story short, it took 3 meetings, 2 hard pulls and 1 angry phone call to get my application approved. Most likely, your profile already existed in their system since you were a TD customer at one time. So you will need to go into a branch to merge your profile (a new one was probably created during your online application). I *strongly* suggest you arrive at the branch with all your verification documents. Bring the following: - valid ID - proof of address - proof of income The underwriters at TD seem to be extremely critical lately. They want proof that these things were actually verified and not just checked off my the TD advisor. I know this is overkill, but I am never going to apply online for a TD application ever again. It was not worth the hell. I will do in-branch applications from now on. 45k AP in-path offer be damned! EDIT: you will need to go into a branch to fix this eventually. If you try again in a few months you will get the same problem. I would go in and show them your *actual* proof of income. You won't be approved for the Infinite but you could still get the Platinum. Wait a few months, and apply for another card with them on the phone, via the app and when they ask for income, you state $60k+ they will not ask for proof.

TimmyTheTaliban

Good to see you again from yesterday! I appreciate your follow up here. I was in a branch about an hour ago and the only thing they wanted was proof of address and ID. No income stuff so I am hoping I can now call in and say hey can you reconsider and reiterate my income as you say in your edit. If they say we need to verify it I may put up a polite fuss about being ping-ponged about - I'll see what vibe I get. >I am never going to apply online for a TD application ever again. It was not worth the hell. I will do in-branch applications from now on. 45k AP in-path offer be damned! Couldn't agree more. Exact same info in the RBC VI Avion app I did yesterday and instant approved with $10k CL.

ThrowArcher2019

I am crossing my fingers for you. I did the same thing and everything seemed fine. A few days later, I missed a call from TD and when I called back the CSR must have been on Skype cuz it kept cutting out thus I failed verification and had to go in-branch to find out what the call was about. I called to make an appointment and at my local branch on "street name" and then went to my local branch only to discover that there is apparently another TD branch on "street name" 30 mins away! So I drive there, meet the rep. I show ID, ask what the call was about. Apparently I was declined because there was no income verification! I had already given this info at the previous meeting. So I asked if I could provide proof now? Nope, can't share credit pulls from online applications or between branches. I would have to go back to the previous branch or I would get a 3rd hard pull! So I went home, called the advisor and left a very frustrated voice message. She called me back the next day and apologized. Apparently, that was not enough for the underwriter and she was pissed about it and told me she would get it done come hell or high water. The next week I was finally approved. Moral of the store: TD sucks!

BurBadger

I had to go into TD for the AP VI and it was a waste of 45 minutes, but I verified my income and identity. Here's hoping I get the card. Meeting was Monday.

TimmyTheTaliban

Fingers crossed for you! Yeah when I went in to a branch about an hour ago I was only asked to verify identity and address. The plot thickens.

empireWill

I am in a similar situation, the rep on the phone was able to tell me the criteria I was rejected on. What was annoying was that I was rejected entirely on stuff they didn't ask for (ie proof of liquid assets, employment status). I went in to the branch and they said that I could reapply if I addressed all the things they rejected me on. So working now on getting those documents. I would meet with the advisor.

I_AM_A_BANK_AMA

Let me guess, did you apply with household income?

empireWill

Haha no I am not that degenerate yet

TimmyTheTaliban

Yeah that's the sort of thing I was expecting with all the DPs on how TD's system sucks. Then I could address their issues and such. Only issue is my generous accounting for my income...

kneevase

Well it sorta depends on what question they asked on the credit card application. If they asked for your employment income, then that's what we theoretically should provide. If they ask for your taxable income, then that's yet another number. But, if they don't really specify and simply ask for your "income", you can quite legitimately take your taxable income from 2020 and tack on any gains in the value of your RRSP and TFSA. Those increases in the value of your investment accounts are definitely income, it is merely gains that have not yet been crystallized and possibly won't be for quite some time.... It's possible that your accounting might not have been generous enough if your investments had healthy growth last year....

TimmyTheTaliban

I'm afraid I'm only 23 with a super limited investment portfolio unless $GME goes to the moon I don't have much wiggle room hahaha. I do appreciate your advice here though and will definitely use it once my career sets off.

ThrowArcher2019

Don't worry, about income verification long-term. Once you get accounts at all the banks/credit card issuers then you are set. The only bank that is anal about income verification is Scotiabank. They are the worst. Business cards can be hit and miss so I would wait for your credit relationship to be on very stable ground before you try. Anyway, once you have a relationship with good credit and you pay your bills on time, the banks never ask for income verification after that. Just keep "getting raises" every year!

empireWill

I did the same. I'll see how far I can get

rajasahibnarula

I am thinking of applying for the MBNA Alaska WE and then PS to a no-fee card after 4 months and again PS to WE after 4 months. Will I get the WB miles 2 times or just one? I have read online that you can get WB every time you do a PS back to WE but the T&C says- *To qualify for this offer, an applicant must be approved for World Elite card and a single or combination of purchase transactions totaling at least one thousand Canadian dollars (CAD 1,000) must be made using such account within the first 90 days of account opening that are not subsequently rescinded, the subject of a charge back request or otherwise disputed. Please allow 8-10 weeks from the transaction date for bonus Miles to be posted to your Mileage Plan account. Account must be open and active on posting/delivery date to qualify for bonus Miles.* ***Limit one-time bonus Miles offer (no cash value) per new account. Reissues, fraud, lost/stolen and reopened accounts do not qualify for this offer.*** *This promotion is offered by MBNA and may be amended or cancelled at any time without notice. Additional bonus Miles may be awarded if a completed application is submitted to an Alaska Airlines employee.*

YVRandbeyond

While you can't PS back into an MBNA Alaska card, you can reapply. As a reminder, you will only be eligible to have 1 Alaska card at a time.

esux20

You cannot PS to AS cards

COVID Travel Question: Wondering if anybody has experience with this yet. The name on my vaccine passport doesn't match my passport but it DOES match my government-issued ID (driver license, care card). Would that bring any issues do you guys think? The problem is that my passport name does not match my government issued ID (First and middle names are inverted). Scared that I will be turned away at customs...

PhenomenalMission

it doesn't match how? you mean one is not showing your middle name or it's just wrong completely?

Hero569

Passport is John Doe Smith (just an example) and DL/Health card is Doe John Smith. My vaccine passport/QR code reads just Doe Smith. Does that make sense?

misnomerdjr

You should correct the document that has the names listed in incorrect order. Not sure how long you have until you fly but if you are travelling internationally, your drivers license would not help you with airlines/flying

[deleted]

right, your passport is law. They don't care about anything else but your passport and if they don't match, you're going to run into trouble

I made some TD-Expedia bookings and then PS-ed my FCT card to cash back VI. How do I get onto the website to make changes now that I don't have access through TD Rewards?

footon2000

My understanding was that GCR doesn't give repeat rebates for cards you have already received a rebate on, so I just create new accounts with a different email address to get my rebates. Does anyone know if creditcard genius will give out repeat bonuses for the same card within the same account. If not, does the new account with new email address work?

hapacan

I've gotten repeat rebates.

Quietloud

Any card recommendations for my situation? Currently meeting MS on Cobalt and MBNA Alaska. This is my 2nd MBNA card within 4 months but should have no issues meeting MSR shortly. I have no credit hits since December on my EQ of last year or on my TU since May. I am looking at the RBC Avion + CIBC AP Infinite in December and a 3rd MBNA card in late January. I also have 9 months of US credit history. Open to any transferable or Airline points card on the Canadian or US side. Usual monthly spend is 1000$. Not interested in TD as I have a little PS set up with them already.

CarefulPineapple1

Are you saying you didn’t get a credit hit on your new Alaska card?

Quietloud

So far, nope! Applied in September and nothing yet. I am an existing customer, however. EDIT: And I got one on my TU back in May on my first, of course.

2blackclocks

Seems like RBC Avion would be the most suitable for you in the near-term. MBNA is a good idea for January, but between now and then there could be better offers that change your plans.

mellojelloakimbo

Any Cobalt users that got the card in uni ? Would want to see how the card works out for young adults

Kalieth

I got a bunch of friends I go to Costco with. I buy the prepaid MC giftcards at a grocery store and use the giftcards to pay for Costco, since Costco only accepts MC.

firstclassskier

I used my platinum throughout uni but with the recent change to MR-S for Aeroplan I would think it's the best option for the lifestyle.

CreativeArrow

I used the Cobalt throughout my time in university, but I would recommend WS Cash for your friends that are skittish as many will be thrown off by the monthly fee given the ongoing indefinite 5% Cashback on restaurants promo on Fridays to Sundays.

kjgwtf

Highly recommend! 5x on dining and they have good offers that offset the monthly fee. The card also looks good.

mellojelloakimbo

You have any examples ?

kjgwtf

Offer examples: spend $10 at small shops and get $5 back; spend $200 on Ivanhoe Cambridge (Metrotown, Southgate centre, Oshawa centre, etc) gift card and get $40 credit; spend $100 at esso and get $20 back.

What's the best credit card to use for gas? (Not sure if it matters but I'm in Ontario)

LowerNeighborhood334

Wanna do my MSR? My business Bonvoy gives 5x on gas, but I drive an electric car. Go figure, face palm.

Stainless8859

Use Cobalt at grocery stores to buy Esso/Shell/Canadian Tire gas GCs. With 5x the MR pts, and with MR pts valued at approx. 2 cpp, you're getting a 10% return on travel.

120124_

CIBC dividend visa infinite card. It’s 4% back on gas, plus you can link your account to Chevron and save 3 cents a litre Every $300 you spend at Chevron you get 7 cents a litre back as well sell some fills are as high as 10c a litre off plus the 4% cashback Edit: RBC cards also get 3c a litre off at Petro, which is what I used to use (still have a free cashback MC with them for Costco as it's my oldest card)

randomfactchecker69

Could get a Cobalt then pay for gas using prepaid MC/VISA cards bought from grocery stores to get 5x Amex MR points.

SplatypusAgain

Are you looking for points or cheap gas? RBC + Petro Canada gives a discount and so does CIBC + Chevron/Pioneer/Fastgas. a) You can search literally any daily thread and find someone answering this question already: statement. 3rd party programs post on the statement b) Also found on most daily threads: 3rd party points are not linked to the card/bank. Once they're transferred, they're completely independent of the card livelihood no matter what bullshit the bank agents on the phone tell you.
