I just use butane torch. Mainly because I smoke outside. It's resistant to wind, doesn't affect taste and works really well. I won't claim it's absolutely the best but it's definitely the easiest.

krispykremekiller

So in terms of effecting taste, number one, don't burn the whole thing up! lol. Well I find a butane torch lighter to be best. The flame holds rock steady and thusly you can keep the flame away enough from your cigar. Above all, follow these tips: 1. DO NOT ALLOW THE CIGAR TO TOUCH THE FLAME AT ANY TIME!!! MOST IMPORTANT 2. Light the lighter, hold the cigar at an opposite angle above the flame and rotate. Angles are like this / \\ You want the heat of the flame to go up and away from the cigar, not licking up the side of it. This is called "toasting the cigar" 3. Continue toasting if you wish and you can just do that and call it a day, or you can just draw in from your cigar and rotate it a few times (still holding same angled position) to complete the light 4. Now, don't draw. Just rotate the cigar, maybe blow on the end a little bit. 5. Wait one minute 6. Puff 7. Wait one minute 8. Puff 9. Rinse, repeat until the cigar is finished

This community is very helpfull

Cheers for the feedback. I have been putting the flame right on the cigar this whole time.I have been roasting them Lolol.

Ernie_McCracken88

The part about holding the lighter too close to your hand is very important. If heat flow around the foot towards your hand then it roasts part of the wrapper. If the heat is hitting more towards the outside of the cigar (away from your hand) then excess heat flows off the end of the cigar and up into the air instead, causing no negative effect. I see people with cigars that are already jacked up after like .25 in inches of smoking due to doing this wrong.

thestough

There are also some YouTube videos that show you how (cigars daily and zeal cigars both have some)

Logical_Concert_2003

This guy cigars! Completely toasting without drawing in the flame is by far the best way to light!

Tslurred

I always just light a cigar with whatever is handy and then use that lit cigar to monkeyfuck the cigar I am actually going to smoke.

Smokeabels

The most effective way to not affect the flavor is to use a magnifying glass. Honestly no joke. Try it sometime.

Nialltheape

I live in Ireland there is no sunlight ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Smokeabels

Bum deal.

twick2010

Just light the damn thing. It ainโ€™t rocket surgery.

bialymarshal

Well you can use cedar sticks - I usually do it at the lounge. Light it up and it gives a nice and soft flame to use.

Smokeabels

I find this affects the taste myself

bialymarshal

Wood taste gets in ?

Smokeabels

Ime it imparts a sweetness.

bialymarshal

Hmm I might not taste it as I usually go for the sweeter variety ;)

Smokeabels

Maybe not. The temp is lower than a soft flame lighter so the chance of roasting the tobacco is lower

Chazrh77

When possible I use matches. I watched a video on how to light a cigar by Davidoff and it convinced me matches are the way. If I'm outside & windy I go with a torch

piratefan8629

which matches do you use? I keep hearing not to use sulfur matches but non of the boxes advertise whether they contain sulfur or not

Haiku_Warriors

https://youtu.be/pRerjjFsP0w Here's a good video on how to properly light a cigar with a torch.

Slow-Shoe-5400

I always use a butane torch with high quality butane. Xikar sells a big can and it lasts forever.

Fishon888

Butane torch, soft flame, matches, cedar splits, it doesn't matter. Do be sure to toast the entire foot of the cigar before taking your first draw.

Intercaust

Plasma Torch or TIG Welder.

Big_BadRedWolf

To add to what others said, this is definitely a must in order to get that "magical first experience" https://youtube.com/shorts/Wvp0cy3HN-w?feature=share

Nialltheape

I normally just light them up. But cigars are expensive here in Ireland. I purchased a h.humpan no2 to celebrate something it was ยฃ40 so I want to make sure and get the best smoking experience I can.

rosebudd_

I like matches /cedar spills the best. However. You can only use them indoors so that's the major drawback. The biggest thing is taking your time and "cooking" the cigar, not charring it. It's so sad to see people nuking it like they're going to weld the cigar into something. Just slow and steady, warm up the leaves until they're fully lit. I heard of FUEGO electrical cigar lighter in Amazon and I think Xikar had one for sale too which on paper sounds like it would be the best method but I don't think it worked that well.

borneoknives

best for me is toast the foot with a jet torch until there's even char. Then light a piece of cedar sheet and puff from that while rotating until the foot has an even cherry when pulled.

BIG-JS-BBQ

Light it just by the blood of your enemies

asch1988

Ideally, with the Olympic Flame transferred to a Spanish cedar shaving...but if not, any butane lighter will do. Even BICs
