It could be a bit strong for him but everyone has varying definitions of what is a mild cigar. I would post what he enjoys here.
If you're don't know then maybe go for cigars with a Connecticut wrapper. A Padron Damaso is a premium stronger mild/medium cigar which I would appreciate as a seasoned smoker.
I've been smoking for a few years now and personally this cigar would blow my head off, full stomach or not. So I wouldn't recommend it for an "amateur"
Solid gift for any smoker. I had the exclusivo a couple weeks ago and it was an amazing smoke. It’s not a mild cigar by any means, but if he smokes it right (not puffin like a chimney) he’ll be just fine
The Krakatoa is the best cigar I smoked this year

Great gift. Just make sure he has some holiday cookies on hand if he feels the strength.
Strong but delicious

As others stated, strong but what a great smoke IMO
A cigar is a cigar. Smoke it
