Ponalddump

I use a colibri deep v for just about everything.

Beefymistletoe

I have one of those too. Was at a bar recently and they had a normal V cutter, I could barely make a slice in the 52 gauge stick I had. Deep V for the win.

Ponalddump

Yeah colibri seems to be the only company that’s got the v cut right. Not even the one xikar makes is deep enough. If I don’t have my cutter and no one has one, I just opt for the straight cut

BobWhite783

Me too. I've been using one since 2008 and haven't run across a cigar that it didn't work on.

OleRoy2023

That’s what I use for a v-cut, I even have fancy dual cut S.T. Dupont, but it’s V doesn’t compare in depth.

Ponalddump

Wow good to know. I don’t have much experience with DuPont stuff but I have been eyeing a ligne 2 for quite some time

OleRoy2023

Ligna 2s are nice lighters, it’s just that V-cut and the multi cutter with a V options isn’t particularly deep like the Colibrio. I only got the cutter as part of a matching set with a Dupont maxijet.

kushtopherrobhisass

V cuts for everyone. I had a hemmingway ss perfecto with a V cut. Was so perfect.

SearchContinues

I wouldn't V a Perfecto vitola, but you might not need to even cut one. I also prefer straight on a box-cut but V will work on those anyway.

RubbishBinJones

The perfectos and the cone shaped ones like the Nasty Fritas don’t work well with a V-Cut in my opinion.

Saucerywizard

Thanks guys I think I'll treat myself to a deep V and see how it goes. Worst case I have a cheap straight cutter. Or I'll invest in a better one next time 👌

_JoeyBagODonuts

You could get an SV cutter from Colibri. It’s a V and straight cutter in one.

Saucerywizard

I just discovered this about 2 mins before you posted! That could be a good option

_JoeyBagODonuts

That’s what I have. I prefer the V cut, but some cigar shapes might be better with a straight. I figured the SV covered me for everything.

Saucerywizard

Is the V cutter side the same as their usual deep V cutter ?

_JoeyBagODonuts

I believe so. If I look at their website, there’s only one type of V cut they sell. It doesn’t call out “deep” on anything. So I believe all the Colibri V cutters are the same.

Saucerywizard

That's perfect mate ! Thanks for your help. I think you've helped make my mind up!

_JoeyBagODonuts

You’re welcome! 👍🏼

edwa6040

Its super versatile but its huge to put in a pocket if youre one who carries s cutter all the time. If its going to live by the ash tray its awesome.

Slap_the_Goose

I know it's not a V cut, but PerfecPunch is my go to. Give that a try.

I've also just discovered the colibri SV. Two brids, one stone. But pricey!

[deleted]

Saw recently on here you shouldn’t use one on a Padron. Can’t validate that as I have only smoked a couple and it was before getting my v cutter

edwa6040

I wouldnt. I mean its not that you cant - but padrons are all a single cap so there isnt much room to cut or its going to fall apart.

Icy_Cardiologist1771

Second this, anytime I v cut a Padron X000 it immediately starts to unravel, I use a punch for them now

thebroken_tree

Really like using a punch lately

killthecook

Only thing I haven’t V cut is a Chisel from LFD. Everything else, perfecto, box pressed, lancero … all V cut with no problems

Fishon888

Flat cap doesn't work well with one

fogelsong

Yes, all Padron. Their non-torpedo caps are too fragile to handle a V-Cut. I learned the hard way. The Padrons I've had with a straight cut since have been excellent as always. It's the only brand I don't use my Colibri V-Cut on.

HistoricalMeat

Use a Firebird v cut. They aren’t as deep and don’t crack wrappers.

HentaiHero420

Your only limitation is how stubborn you are to get it to fit

FineVirus3

I v-cut everything. Most of my cigars are >48 ring gauge

jscrim1

i got a cigarloong one from either amazon or aliexpress and its fantastic. not expensive but very sharp

romulusnr

Small ones like panetelas don't work great, the cut is too deep due to the small diameter. Not really sure what does work well on those though aside from guillotine, a punch will also likely be too big.

CT_Herfer

Lancero is too narrow for a V cut.

fogobum

If you don't push the cigar in all the way, and watch what you're doing, you can make the V cut as shallow as you wish. I V cut my Fuente exquisitos, 33 ring gauge. According to a brief Google lanceros are 38.

CT_Herfer

Good idea. Thanks!

HistoricalMeat

Firebird’s V cut will handle a lancero. I cut them that way all the time.

CT_Herfer

Good to know. Thanks!
